Hi
Data partition is encrypted by Samsung and TWRP can not access it , that is why you can not factory reset your phone , in order to access the data partition you must format it ( to disable the encryption) so it can be access by TWRP , if you do not plan to use the data partition to store backups or place mods or roms to flash them from there then you do not need to do it
To format the partition go TWRP / wipe / format data ( and type yes) ..... backup, this will erase all user apps and data ( AKA factory reset)

[HELP] Internal storage 0MB twrp

Hey guys.
I recently decided to root my Samsung Galaxy S7 and my first attempt I think i soft bricked my phone so I flashed back to the official firmware and then I successfully rooted the phone so I continue and download rootchecker to check if the root worked and begin downloading and backing up my files through titanium backup.
Now here's the problem: When i put my phone in recovery mode, going into the twrp, I can neither wipe system, clear cache, dalvik or data it gives me error something about "Failed to mount '/data' (Invalid argument)
Unable to locate storage device.
Nor can i find any zip custom roms I've downloaded either, it says that my internal storage (0MB) that can't be true.
I don't really know what to do, I've searched as much as I can.
Edit: I am very sorry in case there is already a thread for this type of problem I was very quick in creating this thread, looking around the forum atm for something similar to mine.
Sincerely ~ Guardian

Hi
Did you do step number 10?
Only if you want internal storage or data to work in TWRP:
Go to [Wipe] -> [Format Data] (not advanced wipe) -> type "yes".
WARNING: This will wipe your internal storage, disable encryption, and factory reset your phone!
Go to [Reboot] -> [Recovery].
Hi guys, is there any way to back up my internal storage before I wipe via flashing with odin or something please? I only backed up using Titanium Backup thinking it was all going to be alright just like all my other devices in the past... I cannot access the system since I get blocked with verification has failed please reset your device" sort of message and thus cannot back up as I am now.

Hi mate
CF autoroot is not working yet as far as i know you have to use Super SU zip and TWRP but you do not have to loose your data..
depends in what you want to do, you can install TWRP , root and not format the data partition you only need to format the data partition if you want to access it from TWRP , like to flash mods from the data partition. This is valid if you pretend to just root your stock rom and stay with it.
If you want to root and flash a custom rom then you have to format your data partition
But on autoroot.chainfire.eu a package is available for s7 running 7.0
Not sure if I must flash that.
Plz help me

Hi
As far as i know is not working correctly.
Search Chainfire thread
As i said....you can flash TWRP + Dm Verity+ SuperSu zip and root your stock rom without formatting your data partition, you ONLY need to formatt your dta partition if you want to have access to it from TWRP
THANK YOU!!!

thank youuuuuu!! Took the plunge, wanted to install twrp to make a backup, since i was 3/4 there and either had to install SU or verity disable, i decided to just for for it and install SU... but then i couldnt see the SD card or internal at all. i was so scared it was bricked due to being unable to read!
thank god i decided to mess with rooting and such before any personalizing!
My data partition can't read by twrp. I want to enable data in twrp without format data. In this case, if i only change data partition image from ext4 to exfat in twrp, can this action erase my data?

Disable encryption protection?

Hi Guys
Im having trouble flashing new Roms to my S7. When I enter TWRP recovery, it shows my device as 0MB and it doesnt picK up any files. I looked into this and read that Encryption should be disabled on the handset. I followed instructions to do this and noticed that there is no option for Encryption Protection. Its not there!
I disabled any passwords and Pin numbers to erase decryption and it still didnt work!
last resort was to try a factory reset and the device restarted to recovery and failed as TWRP recovery cant find any mounted devices due to the encryption crap.
Any help appreciated.

Hi mate
Seems like you did not format your data partition during TWRP installation.........
Try flashing your custom rom from the External SD card......your data partition has all your app , files , passwords, photos...there is still a chance that there it may be a incompatibility issue between your apps and the new rom....that is why they recommend a factory reset when flashing a new custom rom

Hi
TWRP can not handle Samsung encryption . if you wish to use TWRP and have access to the Data partition ( internal SD card) you need to format it so the encryption is disabled ( you lose all your apps , data and user configuration AKA factory reset) , you can have TWRP and data encryption but mods and roms have to be flashed from external memories also you will not have available MTP in recovery or factory reset from it.
There is no way to disable data encryption without format data.....
Ok, I got a friends SD card and placed the Rom on there. I can now see the Rom but the trouble is, TWRP wont let me wipe Dalvik / data / system / cache as it wont mount the storage....
can I still apply the ROM?
Unable to restart your device. The integrity verification has failed. You need to reset your device to factory default settings. This will erase all of your data.

That is why I point it out " factory reset is recommended when flashing custom rom" if you wish to flash a custom rom you will have to format your data partition and flash the data verify file........

I have tried to format/wipe data. TWRP keeps saying it failed as it cant mount the storage.
I tried flashing the stock rom via odin and it also failed as it goes to recovery to wipe data and it fails again as it cant mount storage.

How did you flash the stock rom...which files did you use?
Wipe data is not enough you have to Wipe / FORMAT DATA and type yes....
1 To get rid of encryption, go to "wipe", format data (TWRP) (keyboard will pop up) then type "yes" and format it, then reboot to recovery
2. After flashing this, hit wipe, full wipe (this will clean all internal memory and your data will be lost
3 you can test if encryption is still enabled, if TWRP shows error about not mounting data your phone is still encrypted

[Q] Can not mount /DATA

I somehow lost the ability to MOUNT /DATA from inside TWRP. Do I need to format DATA to fix this ?? or maybe just re-flash the encryption breaker instead ? I would rather not lose all ...

repair the file system, try exfat.
mine got the same thing too and I changed its format to exfat after that it got mounted and then I re-flashed the stock ROM via ODIN
after that my phone got into bootloops, at first I got scared like WTF but then I rebooted into the official recovery and through there I wiped data/factory reset and wiped the cache as well, after it everything went normal AF
though I lost my data stored in the internal partition (idk it had to wipe the app-data partition but instead it wiped every partition out and yeah my EFS didn't got affected at all but you should be careful)
Format.type yes. Then flash encryption breaker. U have to flash encryption breaker after flashing anything basically. U can change file system but u won't actually fix the issue and therefore never do nandroid backups

Question TWRP HELP

So I decided to install Xiaomi EU rom to my device, but after wiping data in TWRP it all goes to ****.
Firstly, Windows no longer recognize the internal storage, it's still there, but I can't copy files into it
Second;y, my TWRP internal data is 0mb, but after restoring that and rebooting twrp, the data is 0mb again and it forces to to do it all over again,
Does someone know a way to fix this issue?
I need a reply asap as I really need the phone
If only had done format data, reboot to system to get into MIUI, will take 5~10 minutes, done the initial setup, then the internal storage should be readable.
If still does not work, buy USBOTG or find a microSD card with sufficient storage to flash.

Personally, my TWRP gave me an error when trying to install Miui.eu, that's why from TWRP I installed Orange Fox and I was able to install EU, another thing is that twrp does not show you or mount the data partition since by default it comes in format F2fs, you would have to change the data file format to ext4 and go back to f2fs for twrp to work with that partition, which is also why your PC cannot copy files to internal memory
The published versions of TWRP are betas and it has problems with the format of the data partition since by default the Poco X3 Pro brings the f2fs format for data, so the only thing I can think of is that you have to format if or if data and change the partition format so that twrp recognizes it

so I decided to replace the recovery twice and the phone is properly recognized now
You could use sideload to install rom btw. Otherwise, you could use the official beta orangefox recovery, iirc, it also recreate the partition if you attempt to use some of its feature.
