[Completed] Factory Reset Protection follow up - XDA Assist

Sorry to make a new post but the old one was locked. I've recently had a problem with Google's Factory Reset Protection on a relative's phone but luckily managed to retrieve their Google account. I understand there is a lock out of 24 hours (down from 72 - correct?) after resetting the password after a factory reset. I just wanted to check up that the Google login screen after a fresh install and password reset behaves like the usual can't log in screen, when the new password is pending?

Sold phone on Swappa. Buyer getting the device was wiped at setup.

So I sold my phone (Galaxy S6) on Swappa, first time ever. The buyer received the phone went to set it up and the an error reading "This device was reset. To continue, sign in with a Google Account that was previously synced on this device." He recommended doing a video call where I would give him the password so he could get in and remove my account. And I would be able to watch him so I know he isn't stealing my information. I changed my password before giving him it because it is similar to other passwords I use for other logins. When we went to do the call it keeps looping back to that same screen with an error message. I know it recognizing my email because I see my picture pop up when it asked for a password. sorry, i cant help with your question, but in the future, remove your account from the phone before factory reset and you wont have this problem.
any phone running lollipop and forward will have this new security on it, and if your phone never had software older than lollipop on it, there is no way to bypass the security check.

I restored my phone using Mobile Upgrade Q, but now I'm locked out

After doing a full reset on my phone using Mobile Upgrade Q (which successfully removed CM and TWRP from my phone) I get an error message when trying to set up Android saying "sign in with a google account that was previously synced on this device." I've only ever used one google account with this device, so I'm not sure what the problem is.

Its factory reset protection, you have to log in with the google account associated with the phone prior to reset.... To avoid this in future or if you sell phone just remove your Google account in settings... accounts before factory reset... It's the equivalent of iCloud locking on Apple, designed to cut down on theft.... If you cant remember the password you can go to the Google account recovery page for assistance

I don't understand. I WAS logged into the account prior to the reset, on CM. It's the only account I've ever used on this phone, and I haven't changed the password.
How do I unlock it? Is it even possible, or does it think I stole the phone?
Is it possible to reinstall TWRP and CM now? Just to have a useable phone?

If you reset it any other way than from settings reset phone (i.e. Recovery mode or something like mobile upgrade Q) without first removing your Google acct your locked out for 24 hours(used to be 72 hours).

But if it locked me out with the correct information, how can I be sure it will let me in after 24 hours?

Here is a writeup on how and why frp works like it does....

There are some hacks around it, but I have never tried them, best method to avoid frp headaches is to simply remove your Google acct prior to any reset
Is there anything special I have to do to login in 24 hours? Is it 24 hours from the first time I reset or the last time I reset (I wiped it a few times trying to get in)?

Thank you for the link. Just to be clear, in case future people ever find this thread: during the 24 hour lock out, you cannot unlock the phone, EVEN WITH THE CORRECT ACCOUNT NAME AND PASSWORD. Oddly enough, the device can still receive phone calls, and displays the caller's contact name. So it's definitely logged into my account, it's just locked out of doing anything except receiving calls. Also, I can hear that the phone is receiving text messages, though I have no way to read or reply to them.
Once I unlock it, I will update this thread with how and what it looks like, again, just in case someone finds this thread in the future, because this information is hard to find.

I have the same issue were you able to unlock it? The only way I got back in was by installing cm12.1 but I would like to go back to stock.
Yes. 24 hours after my last reset, I was able to log in and unlock the phone.

Before running mobile upgrade Q just remove your Google account in settings, I believe that will allow you to safely reset without triggering FRP...

This happened to me yesterday so I hope it works for me as well.
You know what, I just happened to be looking for the official Alcatel factory flash tool and came across this post because after a few factory resets I was able to get the phone to boot up......BUT, as described above, the phone will only accept the PREVIOUS password which I forgot.... I simply requested a new password be created and it doesn't unlock the phone.
So now I too must wait 24, wow.
This is BS.. I mean, yeah I factory reset the phone because after my son accepted a system update, his phone kept bootlooping and his battery doesn't want to accept a charge now (so it seems per the display).....but what if I want to sell my phone? We have to remove the gmail account prior??????? Wow way to go Alcatel. And if this is actually an Android feature, it sucks.
Now, can anyone direct me to the actual official Alcatel upgrade tool????? I want to just flash this stock unrooted phone to out of box condition so we can trade his phone in. The Alcatel website no longer offers it from what I can see. Thanks!

It's an android security feature introduced in 5.1 LP, it only triggers the wait if you reset any way other than from settings. It's similiar to an iCloud lock, so yes if you sell phone remove google account, or if your buying a used phone make sure the google account is removed prior to reset, or boot up phone and make sure you can get passed the lockout before buying it!!

at last i understand why i never ever heard of it
my 6039y is still on 5.0.2 and i never removed gmail accout before made a reset with mobile q or any other way and google never did anything.

Need advice on Google account recovery.

I have a most bizarre problem getting back into my account that I can't believe is happening. Here it goes: (This account is hugely important to me as it's only access to my YouTube channel I've been working on for more than a year,)
I'm the owner of both the locked out account [email protected] and it's recovery email aaaaa@gmail.com which is logged in fine.
Despite having the correct email, password, the physical phone in my hands which has always been used on both accounts, sending this from the same WiFi always uses, located at the same location always used, and as I mentioned the recovery email, I am locked out of [email protected] due to what must.be a mistake.
Here is what happened:
On March 27th, I decided it was time to just factory reset my phone. I make videos for my YouTube channel, and my phone had less then a gig of storage so I decided to do the factory reset.
Just.prior to doing so, I realized it may take me awhile even just to remember the password to get back in since autifilll normally does that for me. So I decided to figure it out before resetting my phone, and reset the password as well so it was fresh on my mind when logging into the reset phone. There are screenshots attached of everything.
Now here is the huge problem which I am unable to get around .
When attempting to log back into my account from my reset phone, iit asked that I provide the one time use code from settings / Google / password!!
Understand, I entered in the correct email address and password, but what it now is asking me to provide is literally impossible to provide for anyone who reset their phone and has not been able to put the email address back on the phone. The code Google is asking me for dies bit exist on a freshly reset phone , and there is not one person in the world who just reset their phone that could provide that number.
And that is the I only option I am being given despite the fact, I own and have access to the recovery email address [email protected] which they have not contacted. And despite the fact I'm using the exact phone and WiFi from the same location always used for this email.
Is there any way thjs can be fixed? I have a YouTube channel with an enormous amount of tied to that account and it's important.
Please respond with your device name. I understood that you are locked out of your device and can't complete the setup. If it is so you just have to reset the FRP partition. Please provide your phohe name to move ahead
Users typically remove all Google accounts from phone - note: their data are stored in accounts.db database - before performing a Factory Reset thus they wil not run into such a trouble.

Forgot PIN and phone in an airplane mode

Hi,
My customer just bought brand new Samsung S20. He has receipt for it, original box and access to associated Google account. After first setup, login to Google and setting up the pin he performed an Android update which triggered reboot and asked for pin which he has forgotten.
Moreover the phone is in airplane mode. After login to Google on PC, "find my phone" shows the Samsung device as offline so as far as I understand password recovery won't work in this case?
Is there any way to turn on WiFi or cellular data to perform pin/password recovery from associated Google account?
Unfortunately adb is also disabled.

If he forgot his Goggle account password he'll need to recover that first.
OK, never mind. We don't need to keep the data, so after factory reset the phone will let to connect WiFi and login by Google account

[SOLVED] Asking for 'previous password' after wipe, won't accept Google credentials

Getting desperate here. My friend wanted to do a factory reset because she was running out of space, and everything was lagging. I told her no problem, just make sure to have your correct Google credentials. I don't use Google (Custom ROM FOSS guy) so have very little experience with possible issues.
So we went into the settings and wanted to initiate the factory reset process. She was asked to enter her PIN, which he had forgotten. She always uses fingerprint to access her device. Therefore I went into recovery and did the wipe from there. Everything seemed normal. We were greeted with the welcome screen, entered the Wi-Fi key, then it checked for updates for a moment. After that it asked for a "previous password". Before doing the factory reset, we double-checked her Google credentials to make sure nothing goes wrong. I was a little irritated that it wouldn't ask for her Google Account Email address first. Alas, after several attempts, it just wouldn't accept her Google password. We entered her account on a browser, no problem there.
I did some research, and there have been several people with the same or similar problems. Some report that they need to enter a PIN after factory reset. Seems like HTC is asking for a different password, and not the one for the Google account. Unfortunately she does not remember to have ever created a password for the device.
What really bugs me is that even the official HTC support page for the U11 does not mention this obstacle:

I successfully bypassed FRP on a Samsung Galaxy J5 several years ago, and tried the same with the following tutorial:
Everything goes well, until the YouTube app opens and asks me to update. When I tap on update, it wants me to sign in to Google Play. When I tap on sign-in, it immediately asks for this ominous 'previous password' again.
Hope you guys have a solution. Data is all backed up, but she really needs this phone.
UPDATE: She remembered the password. She said she had to set it up together with the fingerprint when she got the device.
Still, I find it extremely misleading that HTC does not follow its own guidelines. The official support page for this model linked above explicitly states that in order to remove any PIN, pattern or password, you can wipe the device.
