Touch and hold on that notification and drag down slightly and you'll see it say settings. Then you can hit turn off when maps opens.
Awesome cheers
How would I turn it back on?

Thanks for the reply. That is what I thought. It was already checked so I un checked and rechecked and it still doesn't show when I pull down notification window. Weird, works on my pixel but not this

The only other thing I can think of would be if it's blocked in Android settings>maps. Have a look there and see if notifications for the app are turned off there.

I was appalled and bummed to wake up today to see my phone and tablet both had ads in the notification bar! The new bread of ad pushing has begun. I had read about it the potential, but never seen it happen.. until now.
TuneIn Radio is pushing ads - in their pro paid app mind you - to the notification bar!
Was a little surprised to see this as well, even if it's not exactly on the same level of the other air push type ads.
There's a "push notifications" toggle (under settings, obviously) that I turned off after seeing this, assuming it will stop it. Will see.

I don´t have that on my tune in pro, all ok here, great app

Never seen that setting never checked that setting never seen these ads until today and I have had the app for a while so I wonder if that popped up in one of the last updates they did. I now unchecked it, hope that stops it and that that is related too these kind of "notifications".

Do you have the latest version of the app? Do you have that notifications option checked or unchecked right now?

Yeah, will see if that helps. First time and I haven't had an update in a while. Market has the last update being on April 13th.
Not sure.
I have my google now settings set as shown beloew. The problem is that I'm still receiving weather updates even though I have them disabled. Any ideas?

I think you will still get them unless you turn google now off completely.

I never used to though? It's only started happening recently.
For a few weeks now I no longer see things from Google Now in the notifications pulldown. Was kind of a nice feature to see the weather and such in that without having to actually go into Google Now. Not sure if it was a Google Search update or Google Launcher update that took this away but I can't be the only person to notice that it is gone now from both my Nexus 5 and Nexus 10. Any idea how to get it back?
Did you turn notifications off within Google Now?
+1 long press screen then settings notifications. Also check in settings apps Google now launcher check box for show notifications.

It only shows up a notification whenever the card updates.

Nope. They've always been on. Still nothing ever appears in the notification pulldown from it at all anymore.
No one else with any ideas?
I had the same issue since about 2 weeks ago, tried a few things, in the end I checked in "Manage Apps" and the receive notifications check box was unchecked... :/
Rechecked it, rebooted and all OK since then

Hi
I am been using Android for long time. The last Samsung mobile I used is S4 and I was using HTC M8 (Sense converted to GPe) before S6. I have my GPS is set to High because I used to use Maps for navigation a lot. But in S6, the notification panel keeps showing "Searching GPS location.." very often where I am not even using the Navigation. Is there something wrong?
Thanks
Not sure if its due to the weather app which will check location? I see the same happening on my phone too.
My weather is set to update every 6 hours but I see the GPS icon in the status bar pretty frequently.

Thanks. The stock samsung weather widget was still up on the homescreen using the Touchwiz launcher. I removed it and will keep an eye out for the GPS notification.
EDIT// That did not resolve the issue. Oh wells.

The frequency of getting the notification is very less for me. I also turned off the auto syncing. I didn't see the notification in last 24 hrs.

hi I noticed if you go into settings through tapping the weather display on homescreen, then manually enter your place of residence, switch location off and then the gps warning will not show up -with it switched on it searches for location on start up ie warning shows up, since I switched it off it does not show now ? try it

Title says it all. GPS/Location icon will not go away. I'm on 8.1. I've gone into location setting and forced stopped everything that was using location, and it persist through a reboot. Anyone have any idea how to make this go away? I'm also on device only location.

It's the Google App, the cards. If you don't have High Accuracy allowed in your location settings that will happen. Deny location permission to the Google App or turn on high accuracy.
Took me months to figure that out on my XL.
Reboot your phone?
The reply talking about having "High Accuracy turned off" is dead on the correct answer.
