Hey all, firstly, sorry this is a rushed post but I'm hoping I can get some advice and pointed in the right direction. I'll start by saying I'm fairly experienced in tech and with Android.
So, a family member was having problem with her new android phone (Samsung J ... 6, 5 or something, I can find out) so I said I'd just do a factory reset - there was nothing on there she was worried about losing).
Long story short, this new security feature (if stolen) where you can't just factory reset has completely screwed me over. They are not tech orientated and can not remember the original google login they made, and barely half of the security questions to remember the original google account. I just want to cry. What was a basic factory reset has turned out to looking like I've 'bricked' their phone. I obviously haven't but it doesn't look good. I've read there's an APK to skip this google sign in step, and I feel competent to do it, but I feel like things can only get worse by this point. There is still hope to reset the google account, but what is your experience using this skip sign in APK. It sounds too easy, for would be thieves, and I don't trust it much. I'm thinking this has gone far enough, I should just tell her to take it back to the provider (EE UK) She's only had it a month. Any idea if they can do this in store or it'll be sent off. Any other words of advice with this skip sign in APK; pulling hair out, thanks
EDIT: Am I right in thinking I can't contact google any further to get the original account back?

Greetings!
Thank you for using XDA Assist.
Having the correct phone model would be helpful here because there are different methods available for fixing this issue. Google will be of no help whatsoever. You can try to bring the device to an authorized Samsung repair center, if available. Also I do recommend bringing it back to the original place of purchase.
Good luck!
Thanks for your reply and sorry for mine being so slow. I guess I'm on my own with this one, but if you can point me to the most favoured guide for a Samsung J36 (I think that is J3 (6) I would appreciate it.
The APK method seems seems easy enough but I'm really worried it has been patched out, seeing as it's a relatively new phone. The last thing I want to do is make it worse. Could you advise how safe the APK method is? usual disclaimers aside
I went into EE today and they weren't much help; they said there's not much they can do, which I don't believe, if we can prove the phone is from them, only a month ago. Thanks for your help. Stress :S

I haven't seen one for the J3 specifically, as there isn't a specific forum for that model on XDA. May I recommend doing a search to see what turns up. I know that official Samsung repair centers can fix this problem.
Will do, thanks. I wanted to avoid paying for a fix but if it keeps things safe, so be it. I'd have to travel so hopefully they'd do it on the spot. ty

Before anyone chews me out for thinking I haven't researched this here, believe me I've already spent hours over the last couple days researching XDA and tried all kinds of things and I'm just at a loss for knowing what else I can do from what's available (some download links don't work etc.), and from what I remember from way back when I first rooted the phone. I take care of my developmentally disabled sister and don't have a lot of spare time to devote to researching this. No time and always stressed from my caregiver responsibilities. Not asking for sympathy, just understanding that I can't devote a lot of research time for this. I learned how to root the phone from XDA without bothering anyone, but this just has me stumped. Tried NVflash (this will flash the images to the phone, but still can't get past LG logo), LG updater / alternate updater tool (neither will see the phone),
I'm willing to pay for either an absolute certain fix with clear instructions and download links for any software needed that work, or possibly sending the phone to someone that can get the thing working again for a reasonable price. Keep in mind I can wait for a cheap broken phone on Ebay to replace the motherboard. I also luckily had another G2x that had Froyo and not rooted, but I decided to update it to GB even though the camera sucks. I uploaded two Youtube vids to show what's happening with it. I can't post links yet, but this is the extension for part 1 at Youtube: /watch?v=ulZzWFgNosY and part 2 :/watch?v=YVV9Vzbz0dg. Just ad these to the youttube url after the .com

After going to the store to get soup and remedies for my sister (just came down with a cold... sigh), I sat down at my computer and was disappointed that I didn't even get a response let alone an offer to help -NOT EVEN FOR PAY! So I went over what I'd done the last two days and figured it out. Phone works now, but the problem was the person's instructions were terrible. So no credit and no money. Sorry, I had to work too hard to work out what was not clearly instructed. There's a lot of that here I find. The person knows what they're talking about in their mind, but they sometimes fail to convey it clearly in written form and give instructions that are not easy to follow. Anyway, a general thanks is in order for XDA. :good:

Pretty sure a high majority of people that write the guides are in high school, so there's that.

Hi;
Read your post; and am in the same situation. Could you PLEASE tell the rest of us "G2Xers" HOW you managed to get out of that Boot-Loop????? Quite sure your solution would be most appreciated by the rest of us!!!!!! Leave me an answer also, and thanks loads!!!
My wife just called me on a landline to say her Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 has gone missing. She was working in a tiny charity bookshop, so it was easy to check that it wasn't just dropped, and it goes straight to voicemail. It was double PIN protected on both device and SIM.
It was on Android 4.0.1 - I know, I know, she wouldn't allow me to upgrade it.
Question - I know from experience of flashing a new ROM that Google insists on entering the Google account details again to verify proper ownership. Is this a general Android security procedure, or does it work only on Lollipop/Marshmallow?
Just asking because it will be of some small comfort to know that the thieving scum has a paperweight rather than a phone...

Incorrect.
I was hoping for something a bit more concrete than that. And it is correct. When I've done a full reset of my phone to flash a new ROM I get "This device has been reset. Please enter your Google credentials" or words to that effect.
I'm happy to have the response, but can someone please give me a sensible one based on knowledge and not guesswork?

Oh hey look... no Google account!
You're the one operating on guesswork assuming a Google account is mandatory to use an Android device.
Look, guy, if you have no useful advice to offer me then quit wasting my time...
"Friends
Wakamatsu has not made any friends yet
Befriend Wakamatsu"
Well, am I surprised? I think I'll pass on that offer...
You asked about when a security measure was introduced in Android. I informed you that no such security measure exists.
There is a disconnect between what you want to believe and the reality. First, you refused to accept it. Now, you're angry at me because you have no choice but to accept it.
You want reassurances because of your situation? There is none to be offered here.

Unless your carrier has a service that allows imei blacklisting, there is nothing you can do. Even if they do, you'll need a solid proof of ownership and that the phone wasn't just lost. If your wife lost her phone, in most cases there is no obligation on the part of the finder to return it. Any other measure won't do anything, as the device could be wiped clean of everything.
Thanks. optimumpro. My service provider has blocked the phone and the SIM, so with any luck the scumbag will get no joy from it. It's also reported with its IMEI on a website (immobilise.com) which the police refer to when items are recovered.
As to my original question, I believe that the function I mentioned started with Android 5.1, so if the thief has the tech knowledge he/she can probably wipe it and install a new ROM, though I hope the IMEI block will prevent use even with other providers.
Pity - it was a nice little phone - my first smartphone.
And thanks for providing a sensible answer - appreciated.

You may want to check ebay, because the phone can be sold to someone from another country. So, with luck you may catch the guy...
Hi all
I hope that this is the correct place for this post. If not, please point me in the right direction.
I recently aquired an iphone 7 from the lost property cage in the hotel where I work. The date it was found was around late november early December last year or there about. So since this phone had been in the cage for more than the standard 90 days I asked my manager if I could take it and he agreed so Im now lawfully in possession of this phone.
Anyway.. Once I got the phone started, it was ofcourse password protected. I didn't particularly want to gain access to the original owners personal data so found out how to reset the phone and wipe it clean using itunes. However...once I tried to start it up it was asking me for name and password again saying that the phone is linked to an Apple ID.
I've been searching and searching for how to find a way to seperate the phone from the Apple id account and although most online info suggests that its impossible and the phone may as well be thrown out, I have been told by others that it IS actually possible to "hard reset" the phone somehow so that I can use it.
So basically Im here as a last resort to see if there is anyone who can help me save this phone from the trash?
I am willing to pay to have it done professionally if it is actually possible to do.
thanks in advance for any help

This is an Android forum btw. :silly:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/general/notice-post-questions-t3359529
As already mentioned this is an ANDROID forum not an APPLE or IPHONE forum hence you won't have majority of people here caring about your problem
It's like the question of how to install twrp on my galaxy S8 in apple forums...
Nevertheless, yeah its true, the phone is linked to the apple id, therefore, you can try recovery mode to remove the pass code https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204306
Over a year old thread, with a Member that has not logged on in over a year....might be too late.
Hi,
I am kinda new to the forum. And I am a little lost with the phone.
My step-father gave me his Pixel 3, as a gift. However, my step-dad has a pretty wicked sense of humor. He gave me the phone, but he didn't entirely log out of the phone. When I turned on the phone, it turned out that the phone is FRP locked. I asked him for the damn pin code, but he rebuked that, unlocking it is part of the learning curve, and I will value this phone more.
In the past few days, I was googling every possible exploit I could find there. Just to learn that phone is running Android Q, so nothing really works. (You can see my dad is a wicked person).
I understand that I have flash new software, but any ideas how could I do that? I have absolutely no clue how what to do. I downloaded Android Studio, but I don't even know what to do with that software. I a complete noob, to that.
What I managed to establish is that the phone has dev options turned off. It's running Android Q from April this year, and device in fastboot mode says the device is locked.
I will be grateful for any tips. I wanna see shocked face of my step dad.

If say give it back to the rightful owner. You won't get any help here trying to hack into someone else's phone.
Either your story is BS, or he is an idiot and doesn't understand FRP. I'll pretend that the story isn't BS however unlikely, and tell you to get the PIN/PW. Otherwise, take your losses on whatever you paid for the stolen phone.
He guys, I just stole a phone, can you help me launder this phone? - Is the honest question here I suspect.
If not, you should be able to get the password from the person who last used it.
First, thank you, everyone, for the replies. Second I would like to reply to some concerns, that were raised here, So to address the biggest elephant in the room, the phone was not stolen. my stepdad simply has a strange sense of humor and he likes to torture me with his ''jokes''. This would be one of them. He gave me a locked phone on purpose thinking it would be funny, watching me twiddling with the phone for hours, until I would come to him begging him for a password. Which already happened yesterday. The phone is now, working as it should be. The third thing I wanna mention is the fact that at the time of writing this post, I was pretty confused about the whole situation. I didn't realize fully what is FRP, . It was the first time when I heard about it in my life. All my life I had Samsung phones, and never before I had to deal with something like FRP. I simply thought it was another stupid joke of my stepdad..
I am a person, who likes challenges, and the fact that my stepdad has pulled another number on me made my desperation, but defeat him, even bigger, I am rather a tech literate, so having him challenging me on unlocking this phone rubbed my ego wrong way. I apologize for causing any disturbance here.

For what purpose? He already said he got the P/W and it is working. He didn't ask anything else and simply said "thanks."
Thread closed as the Op doesn't require any additional assistance.
Second of all if you can help then please do so... if you think something isn't right hit report and move ahead.

My sister ran away yesterday evening and she has no phone on her to track, but she left what appears to be a Samsung j3 behind that she used before she left. This could be what saves her life, I very much need XDAs help here. I have rooted and messed with phones and Odin around 5 years ago so I am very rusty with this stuff. Could someone please guide me on recovering her phones data and/or bypassing the lockscreen?

Specific model? A while ago on some models you could flash twrp and work to avoid it.
As for bypassing the lock screen, I would suggest not trying to unlock it, some people use the settings so that after enough wrong attempts to unlock the phone, it factory resets.
If the data inside the phone is a priority, take it to a specialist or the relevant authorities ASAP.
I do not suggest trying twrp as in this case, damaging the phone could bring serious
consequences

I would agree to hand it to the authorities, but the cops already existing 24 hour missing person rule has already killed so many children. I sincerely doubt the phone would find the right hands to access the data within a week, the professionals are right here on the internet across the world.
How do I find out the specific model? Would that be in a safe boot screen? For extra info, it has a removable rear cover and battery.
But what you are saying is there is no way to bypass the lock screen even with twrp?
Based on info I gathered from her search history on her school laptop, she could be on a greyhound. I've already told the authorities but they are quite slow at their job. Time is of the essence with this. Thank you for replying

Turn the phone off , take the battery out , it should have something written on it like
smj30km
In some older models and versions you could use twrp to explore the contents of the phone , and even edit the system files to remove the lock , you cannot remove the google account this way mind you .
However given the stakes I again suggest against it as if something goes wrong , the phone will be wiped.
If you wish to do so anyway I will leave the links to the posts , but I will not be able to help if something goes wrong.

I forgot all the issues surrounding the google account. That pretty much leaves me with no options, I will have to just give it up to the authorities. Thank you for the good advice. Would it be appropriate to simply take this post down
I truly hope you cand find her , sorry if I came across as rude or not willing to help , but the fact that as you said , the phone is the only thing that may help you makes it difficult to recommend a twrp flash or even rooting the phone as this may damage it .
Wish you the best
