Phone idle/screen cast problem on Motorola Style - General Questions and Answers

Hi folks, I recently ran into a couple of problems with my new Style. At home I have aeroplane mode on, location off, even the sim card removed, yet phone idle is still using battery. Not a great chunk, maybe 3-4%, but it shouldn't be doing that right?! Mobile data etc is all off.
The second issue is that when casting to my Samsung TV the picture is totally off, it's as if the refresh rate isn't right and there's screen tearing all over. Even on a static image there's movement as the pixels update. The TV info tells me that the phone is casting at 720p 30hz. I would normally just use MHL/Slimport instead but this phone doesn't support it.
I've not run into either of these problems with my Nexus 5 or 10 and I've Googled til my thumbs ache, but I can't find a solution or even mention of these specific problems. Can any of you fine folks here help me out?

A question to all of you, lover of desire s

Hy to all
Does anybody of you have noticed that the device wakes up alone the display for a fraction of a second every 30 seconds. Have seen this thing happening in one evening, watching tv with light off. What is strange, is doing only when gsm is on, for example if I activate flight mode it stops.
Another strange phenomen is that, as far as I read the current widget the ma consumed in flight mode are bigger then in normal, with radio on. E.g. 16ma in normal with mobile data and WiFi off, only gsm on and around 60-80 ma in flight mode.
Can somebody explain how and why, and how I can trace that.
The phone is on default, so no S-off or route or anything, and also no branding, is bought on Vodafone but clean.

Hello, I'm afraid that I can't explain the screen flicker you're suffering from and I don't get it myself, but, I know that others have complained about it before, so there are existing threads that cover this, although I don't recall anyone linking it to only to when GSM is on, so you may have made some progress there !
Airplane mode....there is something very wrong on all our devices here as I find that Air plane mode consumes about five times the power that normal mode does. In fact on mine phone and wi-fi consumes five time less power than Airplane mode - which is just stupid.
I use Battery Monitor Widget over current widget as I find that CW clocks mA figures twice as high as BMW, you can use the maths function in CW to half the readings if you like the application. With phone and wi-fi idling my phone consumes about 6mA on CW = 12mA. In airplane mode the device consumes 35mA. Again there are plenty of other threads where this has been discussed but to my knowledge no one has yet solved it.
See here in this post regarding screen battery usage this is CW versus BMW is discussed
EDIT: the airplane issue doesn't appear to be RADIO related either as I've now used every radio there is including the latest one just leaked earlier today and the problem is still there - no change, so it's got to be ROM or kernel! Do people on non Sense ROMS, with non HTC stock kernels still suffer this problem?
I have the same issue with the screen flickering, it does not bother me that much but I noticed it. I looked around for a fix but came up with nothing.
If anyone knows how to fix this please post a reply.
Thanks.
I have said this in another similar post before....
Screen flicker can be caused by some Apps requiring the privilage to prevent the device from sleeping (basically a "Wake Lock"). If an App requiring that privilage has not be written properly, it causes the screen to flash on briefly, then back off again.
Whilst you may not find it annoying, it does actually increase wear on the backlight, as well as causes a spike in power consumption. Any momentary spike on the battery is a bad thing!
Take a look at what Apps you're running, find those which require the permission to prevent the device from sleeping, and begin either Force Closing them, or temporarily uninstalling them (one by one) until the Screen Flicker stops.
If you remove a certain App and the flickering stops, you know what the culpret is and you can report the bug to its devleoper(s)!
Come back with the same question
Hi all,
I came now back with the same question - screen flicker during sleep.
What do you find on your device?
I had been trying nearly all the roms available, and from what I had seen all do the same, from stock to the alfa tests with ICS.
I curios does nobody notice that, its only me?
No mater what applications are running or not (I kill them all - via running services not task manager) but the screen is still doing. I start to believe is normal for android, something the same like the consumption in airplane mode bigger then with the phone active (another thing completely abnormal).
Wryly is no solution for this.
PS. Just for my curiosity, regarding airplane mode, the tablets with no phone/3G capability, consume the same? I mean more then the one with 3G, when they sleep?
Respects!

The screen wake problem is well established now, and described by many users...and as far as i can see it only affects some devices (for example, ben_pyett is on Endymion - same as me, but hasn't reported a similar issue - and he's a pretty astute observer IMO). There was a thread where we had discussed it at length but i don't know where it's lost in all the cacophony on XDA.
EDIT : Found it!

Read my post above...
AFAIK, it doesn't affect battery life, as i have stellar battery performance. And i'm almost always on Endymion, which is where i see this screen flash thingy mostly.

Bluetooth turns screen on

When I get into my car and my bluetooth headunit connects with my Z3, the screen decides to turn on... for no reason whatsoever. I've disabled apps, tried setting up tasker to turn the screen on after a few seconds... yet nothing seems to work.
Why is this happening? I never had this with my Z2, it really sucks when my phone is in my pocket and I just want to drive, instead I get random actions, and even at one point pocket dialed people.
I hate to reply with anything but a solution, but this is an ongoing issue for me as well. It doesn't seem like it's solvable without a custom kernel. After I rooted my Z1C and installed SlimKat, it stopped happening. Since I got my Z3 I haven't been able to figure it out at all. The closest I got was to install a custom lock screen and have Tasker check for BT Connected and [custom lockscreen] started then wait 1 ms and turn the screen off. That used a ton of battery. I guess it's a solution if you find a way to stop the battery drain. Went from 5+ SoT to less than 3 in a day.
Bumping the topic.. exact same problem. Very very irritating. Battery drains out without even my knowing it. Seems like a serious bug.

Samsung Note Edge Freezes 3-5 minutes from bootup

My almost 3 year old Samsung Note Edge keeps freezing 2-3 minutes after turning on, even without launching any app. Same behaviour happens even on Safe Mode. It just freezes, pressing on/off button doesn't trigger anything and the only way to turn it back on again is to physically remove the battery from the unit and replacing it back in, then powering the device on.
Each time this happens I notice the unit and battery gets hot.
The only time you can keep the phone on is if you enable ultra power savings mode within 2-3 minutes before it freezes. At that state it can actually last the entire day and can I use it to call, text, connect to Wi-Fi or Mobile Data and surf using the default browser and even launch twitter.
Not sure if this is a battery issue as I got new PowerBear batteries and as stated above, the phone is useable for the entire day as long as I can get it to Ultra Power Savings mode before it freezes.
Appreciate any help or suggestions. My phone is not rooted. Thank in advance.

To me it sounds like you've got something running in the background that shouldn't be.
Any suggestions how to isolate whatever that is? Or a way to at least to recover data whilst the phone is on ultra power savings mode? I tried installing Samsung Kies but it needs the phone to be on normal boot.

I would try turning off things like location trackers, auto updates (if you haven't), disabling Playstore, etc.
Do you have any add on apps that could cause this?
I tried Video Lan media player and had a heck of a time.
Got rid of it and all was well.
I love it on my PC though.
Short of that, maybe a full restore is in order?

I was trying to retrieve some photos this week and noticed a Samsung Cloud folder in my Gallery. which I havent seen there before. I remember signing on Samsung Cloud before my phone malfunctioned because I wanted to use it to backup my files (I'm due for phone replacement this year anyway). Is there some kind of correlation to this?
No I dont have the video lan media player installed.
I disabled ultra battery savings mode because I had to check the Gallery and now it wont even get past the Samsung Note Edge boot screen and either restarts or just freezes. It's at a point I just want to throw it.
Really disappointed, before switching to Samsung I was an apple fanboy, last one was an iPhone 4. Which I'm now using as a temp phone, it still works despite being in dead in the drawer for over 3 years.
I was looking to get the Note 8 but after this bruhaha, Google's Pixel 2 looks more appealing... they own the Android platform anyway so Im hoping their software updates go through more rigorous testing before it's released out.
Oh well. Good bye Samsung.

HELP needed with Note 10. GPS accuracy issue, overheating whilst using Android Auto.

Hi
I've tried to find relevant info here but have failed...
Right were do I start?
I use Samsung Note 10 heavily for:
Android Auto
-Navigation (Google and Waze)
-Spotify
-Youtube Downloader (to play sound in the back ground)
-phone calls
GPS status app installed with A-GPS data updated.
Phone screen is always on with Courier Exchange app that uses GPS location etc
1. Main issue I get is GPS location accuracy whilst in big cities with Google maps (Waze is similar) , during navigation my position is shown with a delay and very often drive past the street I suppose to turn in or my position jumps to a street next to. After a stop for lets say 5-10 min if I start to drive again it takes about 60 sec until it picks up my location correctly again. Navigation works fine on motorways and in small towns.
I do use magnetic phone holder (the one that goes into a vent and with metal plate sicked onto a back of the phone) - could this be the issue? (never had that problem on Sony Xperia One) . Compass is calibrated and seems to be working correctly.
Phone additional Google accuracy settings (WiFi) needs to be on as this is requirement of CourierExchange app.
2. Second issue I get is phone overheating and slowing down dramatically.
As I've mentioned before I use Android Auto all the time ( for about 8-10hrs a day) , phone is charging constantly (fast charge off) and I do use Spotify / Youtube Mate to listen to music in the background. Had to switch off screen animation to speed the phone up.
I do have "Power mode" switched off for maximum performance. Phone gets very hot from time to time and tend to slow down, google maps scrolling on the vans unit slows down. Sometimes phone doesn't react on touch too.
Am I lacking the RAM here? Is the constant charging an issue (phone needs to be connected via USBcable to use Android Auto). My vent where the phone is located is closed so no hot air blows on the phone directly.
Is the phone simply too slow what I do or there's an Issue whit the phone? Phone is 3 weeks old and don't have many apps installed on it..
I did use Sony Xperia One (with magnetic phone holder in exactly same spot) before and due to its size and lack of dual sim option have decided to go for Note 10 (not 10+ which is too big). Sony worked so much faster and absolutely no issue with GPS between high buildings. Also I'm a little worried about lack of battery care by Samsung (or am I wrong?) as I constantly charge phone, Sony here was learning my habits and after some time didn't allow the phone to be fully charged whilst using Android Auto - had Xperia XZ1 Compact before and this one was also faster then Note 10 and after 2 years of heavy use battery is like new....
Can anyone help me resolve above issues? I still have the Sony One and thinking of getting rid of Samsung if the issues continue - this is costing me money.
For any help and advise what to do I will be very grateful.
I also experience the GPS issues you explain. Sitting still at a stop light and suddenly it's recalculating because I'm suddenly on a side street 500' away. I've never noticed any heat issue while using AA. I do not use any kind of mount. Also, my wifi calling often fails due to location unavailable error.

Question Unresponsive Screen/Freezes

Hello,
I own my device for 2 years now and last week I decided it was time for a fresh restart and did a factory reset without any issues...well, until yesterday.
Suddenly, out of the blue, in games like Marvel Snap (card game) and Twitter app, the touch screen becomes unresponsive - only power button to turn screen off and fingerprint unlock works until phone thinks it is okay to respond again.
Weirdly, it gets worse while on Wifi and I notice a slight heating up during such temporary freezes.
My phone is practically useless especially while on Wifi now and doing a clean-up, a BitDefender sweep, changing performance settings did not work. I have to mention that it got worse when I set the power profile to ultimate performance so I am beginning to think there is some kind of overheating issue.
I am on MIUI 14.0.1.0 if that helps in any way. I keep all my apps updated.
Do you have any ideas so as to diagnose the problem here?
Thanks in advance.

Heat causing hardware issue could be possible.
A backup phone and migrate data and apps just in case.
Changed refresh rate to 120hz and uninstalled TorBrowser and the issue seems to have disappeared.
Took refresh rate down to 60hz and it happened again instantly. For some weird reason, 60hz seems to be the problem in my case.
I got stuck at "post reply" button for a few seconds just now.
Nah, nothing seems to work. The issue persists. Videos keep playing - anything happening real time keeps on, but touch controls get stuck/extremely sluggish at best.
