Background : I have a recently purchased 6039S, came with Lollipop 5.0.2. I was successful in unlocking bootloader, but when attempting to flash twrp and boot into recovery, got stuck in bootloop. Thinking I must have messed something up, I attempted to return to stock using Mobile Upgrade Q 5.0.0, so that I could try again.
Problem: Mobile Q upgraded my phone to MM 6.0.1, which I was trying to avoid so that I could root. It was my understanding it would restore my phone to stock.
Questions: Did I do something wrong?
I assume my next step to return to stock is to follow this guide (see post by wiemar)? :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-3/help/bricked-idol-3-help-recovering-t3177174/page12
Thanks for any guidance.
You didn't do anything wrong. From my experience, the programs loads the most recent released onto the phone, regardless of the version on the phone before upgrading/restoring.
Thanks for the reply. Any idea if the post I linked to will work for 6039S? Or is there another way to revert to 5.0.2 in my case?
P.S. I saw somewhere that people successfully used Mobile Upgrade Q and selected Pixi 3 to revert. Since it looks like Pixi 3 is still on Lollipop, would this maybe revert me back?
Thanks!
You can flash recovery without bootloader unlocking.
Hello,
The fact that your Idol 3 has been upgraded to MM doesn't have to mean that you can't root or install recovery.
I recently found a way to flash recovery to my device and flash SuperSU.zip using that recovery, which is TWRP.
All you have to do is the following
Download Sahara & Firehose Test from This post
Download the latest Super SU
Get yourself a TWRP image for the Idol 3.
First off
Turn off your phone
Connect your phone to your computer using a Micro USB cable
Hold both volume up and down and press power to start up the device
Once you get onto a screen that says "Download Mode", release both volume buttons and hold volume up to continue. The screen will now turn black
Then you open up Sahara & Firehose Test
Click on "Detect" to detect your device, a connected COM port should appear above the buttons
Click on "NPRG" to load the Sahara & Firehose flasher into your phone's memory
Click on "Get GPT" to fill up the list on the bottom of the window
In the list, find the partition with the name "recovery"
There should be a small checkbox in that item, make sure it's checked
Double click on the textbox next to that checkbox and select where you want to save a backup of the stock recovery image
Click on "Read" to backup your recovery
Double click on that textbox again and select your TWRP image file
Click on "Write" to flash the recovery image to your phone
For SuperSU
Shut down your phone
Press and hold the volume up button and start the phone with the power button
As soon as the "TEAMWIN" logo appears, let go of the volume button
First you want swipe to allow modifications
In the menu that appears next, you want to select "Install"
Now select your downloaded SuperSU ZIP file, it might be on the external storage. You can change storages by ticking on "Storage: Internal Storage".
Swipe again to apply the zip package
Now reboot the device. If it asks to install the SuperSU, tick on "Do Not Install"
I hope I could help you with this,
With kind regards,
Niels Koomans.
Wow, thanks, Niels, for all the detailed information. I will give it a try when I am home and see how it goes!
Thanks!
Yay! Success! Thank you Niels for step by step instructions, and decker su for tools. I now have a stock 6.0.1 rooted 6039s.
The only change I had to make from the above instructions was to use this SuperSu file, as the other one failed for me.
Please!

So I just got my TF101 and I am also relatively new to Android. I am on version 3.2.1, Kernel 2.6.36.3 ([email protected] #1), Build number HTK75.US_epad-8.6.5.13, and my Serial number starts with B80KA.
Since I am on 8.6.5.13, I can't use Razorclaw, which is unfortunate.
I have tried using the Transformer Root Toolkit v7.1, but I can not get it to recognize the device when it is in APX mode so I am stuck there.
I also looked at this thread and followed those steps to no avail. Should I grab the OTA update and try those steps again? Or is there an easier way?
Thanks!
Edit: Fixed Serial.
First of wrong serial number.
Use the serial number on the bottom of your tablet or the back of your box.
Any how try this

The link you posted is almost identical to the one I did. So that suggests that I should just grab the OTA update and then root it?

if you grab the OTA you'll get 8.6.5.21 which definitely is NOT rootable with Razorclaw.
seems like the two methods is almost similar but slight different, i would at least try both to see which one work if any.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
You should search for OTA .19, I think it was posted around here somewhere or maybe via google, so you can update to .19 and use Razorclaw's tool.
Well I have 8.6.6.19 (in the form of UpdateLauncher_WW_epaduser8_6_6_19.zip), so does it matter that it is the one for the TF101G and not the TF101?
Also, what exactly do I do with that zip file to install the update? I tried booting into recovery but that didn't do much.

Hey I finally got it to boot into recovery...and it worked! And I'm rooted! Woohoo, thanks everyone.
Now my last question is hopefully more simple. What do I do since my TF downloaded the OTA update? Is there a way to permanently postpone the update install? Will it go away if I install a custom ROM?

If you install a custom ROM it will go away. Alternatively you can install the latest stock ROM with root by installing this "custom" stock+root ROM. The system will be left exactly like you had somehow rooted the latest stock ROM.
You could flash a rooted stock rom or you can go into
Settings>Applications>Manage application>All>DMClient>Clear data.
Could also use Titanium Backup to freeze DMClient

FAT32 is correct format.
Make sure it's on the root of the sd card and not in any folder
File name:
Code:
WW_epad-user-8.6.6.19.zip
EP101_SDUPATED.zip
Maybe try a different sd card if you have one.
Also just double checking but when entering recovery,
are you waiting to see the words at the top left of the screen prompting
you before pushing Vol up.

The userdata and cache are not important for unbrick your phone, the backup you give to me will help you, you must flash it with sp flash tool. But I think that you must try with mobile upgrade is the best way and there is an update to 4.2. Try with and without batery, with power+vol.

I tried with internet but stays like this
Hi all,
I have a Wiko Rainbow Jam (which is provided with the stock rom "Wiko Rainbow Jam version 8", Android Lollipop 5.1 and the latest updates from Wiko), is about a week that I attempt to root my phone, but I am unable to do this operation, since I am totally unable to mount the /system as RW, and furthermore the bootloader is locked.
Firstly I found this method which consist to write/flash the TWRP custom recovery in place of the original one:
Root method 1
(sorry for the Google Translate link, but I cannot find the same how-to in English)
Which seems similar to this how-to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63803008&postcount=5
But seems that these two methods will wipe/erase everything on my phone, and I would avoid this risk.
I also read that by flashing another custom recovery I will be unable to install updates from Wiko.
Then I tried this method using adb which is more simple:
https://f-droid.org/forums/topic/tutorial-how-to-root-an-android-device/
But when I launch the "adb root" command, all that I get is "adbd cannot run as root in production builds"; so I attempted various workarounds to "fix" adb, but all unsuccesfully.
I have to mention the fact that I have some skills in using Linux and the shell commands: maybe there would be a way to place the "su" binary on my Phone using Linux on my computer, by logging on the phone as root user, by acquiring the needed privileges?
Any help/suggestion/hints would be very appreciate! :good:
Kind regards.
I have a mtk6580 phone and also had the root issues, for a while I used kingroot, which rooted fine but I didnt trust it. Then I used supersume to get rid of kingroot which seemed to work but again, wasnt 100% it was all gone. Followed a similar guide to your first link which wasnt working. What worked for me was:
Download the twrp recovery .img file
rename it to recovery.img
open SPflash tools
add your own scatter file from your stock rom
deselect all the boxes except recovery
double click the recovery address box and find the renamed recovery.img
click download
plug your turned off phone in,
let it flash.
reboot into recovery
select reboot system
TWRP will tell you its not rooted and ask to install superSU
swipe for yes
reboot and you are rooted.
NO DATA LOSS
Thank you for this detailed how-to! However, for me, nor kingroot, kingoroot, framaroot and no other apk worked on my phone, so I will attempt to try your method, but first I have some questions:
1): On my phone, under SETTINGS > DEVELOPER OPTIONS, I can see the option “OEM unlocking”: I have to enable this option to permit the flashing of the TWRP img?
2): Is ok to download TWRP from here? dl.twrp.me/i9300/twrp-2.8.6.1-i9300.tar.html
3): "add your own scatter file from your stock rom":
where I can get/grab such file?
4): "TWRP will tell you its not rooted and ask to install superSU":
so TWRP is already provided with the SuperSU utility?
5): To be sure to avoid any risk, here I have a backup of my phone, which was done using "adb backup -apk -shared -all"; in case of emergency I will be able to restore my phone using this backup?
Many thanks for your attention! :good:

Ok, seems that such file was available in the first link:
s000.tinyupload.com/download.php?file_id=53888272183191245346&t=5388827218319124534686744
is called MT6580_Android_scatter.txt , can you take a look and tell me if is ok?
Many thanks!
1) cant hurt to turn it on, however the phone will be flashed whilst turned off so dont know if its needed, but Im sure I wouldve enabled it.
2) and 3) I dont know what your exact model number etc.. is for your phone, so the twrp you would have to find and check yourself, go here: http://www.needrom.com/category/others/u-v-w-x-y-z/brands-w/wiko/ and you can try to get a twrp from there, and definetely get a stock rom. Use the scatterfile from an 'SP TOOLS FLASHABLE STOCK/UPDATE ROM'
4) yes
5) I dont know, I dont use adb and wouldnt like to say its OK. You can use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.onnandbup&hl=en which will make a TWRP or CWM backup of your entire phone which you can then flash in TWRP or CWM once they are flashed, or get all the data from the backup. I would advise to find this out before trying though, just in case. I personally didnt lose any data, flashed twrp in SPtools, took 5 seconds, rebooted, added SU, rebooted, took 2 minutes and everything was still there.

it has to be a scatter file from your exact model of phone, as everything has to match, partitions, nvram...etc... loads of things that can go wrong if the scatter is wrong

I went there, but my model is not listed.. As I stated in the subject is a Wiko Rainbow Jam: if i search for Rainbow Jam is such link, no model is displayed..

I got the scatter file in the first link "Root method 1", where there is the how-to for my exact model.
ah right, in that case, its OK

Ok: it was painless differently from what I thought: now, following your advice (I used the TWRP and the scatter file from the first link) my phone is nicely provided with the root access
EDIT: was necessary to activate the “OEM unlocking” option under SETTINGS > DEVELOPER OPTION, without this option activated, I was unable to flash the TWRP recovery img.
Many thanks!

Glad it worked lots of guides I saw also made it excessively complicated, this way took you what? 2 minutes? And am guessing all your data is safe and untouched.

Yeah, it took about 2 minutes, just the time to figure out that I needed the USB OTG cable with an usb mouse and to browse to the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.76.zip file (as I said I used the TWRP posted in the first link, which doesn't work with the touch screen).
I want to say thank you again for your friendly assistance!
EDIT: Yes: all my data is safe and untouched!

This method will erase everything in your device, make backup before update!
Download the firmware by this link https://androidhost.ru/1lpz or search ''Charlotte''
Extract the zip
Format your USB Stick to ex-FAT
Create a new folder named ''dload'' and move the files extracted as the picture

Now on your phone, Open the dialer and call -> *#*#2846579#*#* -> ProjectMenu-> Software Upgrade-> SDCard Upgrade-> OK.
Wait.. and:

How is EMUI 9. 1 so far?
Do you have the C782 version?
Can be installed on CLT-L09?

Yes, in this case you have to remove L29 folder instead of L09 folder and move L09 folder on the USB stick!

This method relock bootloader.
Yes, its C432, CLT-L09, i delete the L29 folder, pluged the otg, was verifying the package and said, error verifying, but after that bootloader bricked, i cant do nothing i sent the phone to huawei warranty.
I think it was because the phone had low battery, only 30%, and the update was stopped with no battery, so remember to update with full battery
Hello guys, has it worked for anyone else?
Be careful what you download and where from. A version I installed worked perfectly but locked my bootloader.
Version 9.1.0.311
For me I didn't save my code so I'm screwed.
Don't really care because I'm selling it. But just a heads up.

Did you use an OTG method to flash the rom?
I have made and got a buggy twrp for A6060, which is the Chinese version of M40, based on android-11. It can startup but lacking mtp and usb. It can't decrypt the /data too so you should do some preparations before can use it. I am not sure whether it can be used on M40.
Usage in shorts:
① Magisk and root. You can find the guide in this forum so I will pass it.
② Using a file manager to access /system/vender/etc/fstab.qcom, in the part of /userdata delete the field of "fileencryption=ice" (usually sth. like this, not includes the quotation marks), same and quit.
③ Enter recovery and wipe data. Then use odin flash this recovery: Just zip it to .tar file then flash in the AP slot.
④ When startup, press VOLUMN UP & POWER. If everything goes well, you will see the logo of twrp and enter it and can successfully access the files in /data. Then you can copy some gsi and have a try.

Hope it will be helpful and I really hope somebody can make it a ture and full device tree. That will definetely benefit both A60 and M40 users.
The twrp for A60: https://github.com/Jason-summer/Action-Recovery-builder
The source of the twrp: https://github.com/Jason-summer/device_samsung_a60q/tree/android-11
Sorry for my poor English if causing someone confused.

It works for me. But you should decrypt your phone first before you try to flash sth. or you may found /data a pile of random code.
