The other Beta thread is a little crazy with everything, and there is not much regarding the title of this thread any way.
Anyway, so far, I REALLY dig 7! I love the changes to the UI and such, and where Samsung went with it overall. I haven't seen stock 7.0/7.1, so I cannot say how close to stock they kept it, but I hear it's even closer than before. That, I think it awesome.
Everything seems snappier, and the way things open and close is pretty slick. The new color scheme is nice too. A LOT less 4 year old than I've come to expect from Android lately.
Battery life for me is pretty much the same. I'm getting from 4-5am to 10pm with still 40-50% left.
New menus, dropdown, etc. are nice too. The app drawer is SOOOO much better now that you sort it alphabetically once, and it stays that way, instead of every time you install a new app, or one updates, it would put whatever app at the very end.
However, after a couple days of zero issues, I'm starting to have some.
Notifications will not swipe away sometimes. Generally it might take several attempts to swipe away, but sometimes they just won't unless I unlock and do it again. Fairly annoying.
Changing permissions in app manager sometimes causes Settings to force close. Not a big one there since I can change permissions elsewhere.
The cache fills up more quickly and the phone starts to lag after just a couple days. I wipe cache and whatever about once a week and reboot the phone, now I am doing so every 2-3 days it seems. No biggie there, I realize this is beta.
That's it for now. Your turn.
I find the 7.0 beta fast & smooth. Battery life has doubled for me. I used to have to get a charge around 7-8 hours of use. I'm now getting 12 hours between charges.
I like the UI except for the notifications. The large, white background is ugly.
I've noticed that wireless fast charging doesn't always work. Sometimes it says it's charging but when I pick up the phone the battery hasn't charged.

- Settings: Editing up to 9 Settings shortcuts, only shows 8 for me but trying to select another for a 9th errors stating one is already there. It was due to having Battery as a shortcut before, but now in the beta this is under Device Maintenance. Reported as a Bug. EDIT: Clearing cache/data on Settings removes all shortcuts at the top of the Settings app, and you can re-add what you like again, and fixes my issue mentioned above.
- Galaxy Apps Store: Missing, but can access via Galaxy Essentials Widget or Samsung Gear, also reported as Bug.
I would encourage anyone who has registered and taken the beta to file any Bugs or Suggestions in the app Samsung Members. If you flashed the beta with Odin and didn't officially register, you may not see this app and cannot provide feedback. Samsung did reply to both of my above Bug reports, stating that they were aware of them and will fix them in the next beta release. They are looking and reviewing those, so I encourage everyone who's having an issue to report it, be thorough and explain how to reproduce your issue, provide screenshots if applicable.
Don't be that person who just files a Bug or Suggestion with "It's not working FIX NAO" or "Add this feature or I'm never buying Samsung again!!11"...but I cannot stop you if you decide to do that.
Since installing the Beta, I'm quite happy.
1. Faster and smoother performance, does not start to lag
2. Better notifications system
3. Can turn off the hated Bluetooth volume warning/limit
4. Zero issues so far with normal use
Only downside so far is loss of Foxfi tethering.
Only odd issue is that my phone System Update in Settings doesn't recognize that the phone has been updated to the Beta version. Still says I'm on PH1 build from September.

I followed the instructions in the other thread's first post and successfully installed the Beta. Now my phone is randomly restarting every couple of minutes....oh jeeze. Unusable, hoping I can figure out what's wrong, or roll back...
Edit: Maybe related to Samsung bloat I disabled with package disabler? Can't get package disabler to work
Double-Edit: Things seem good after a factory restart.
Feedback : Don't user package disabler with this. Hope this helps someone.

My accessibility settings keep reverting back to off for all programs. Anyone else have this issue? I think it happens after a reboot.

I'm using EZ Disabler and it works fine for me.
For those whos galaxy apps store icon disappeared, I had that too, I think its a bug in the upgrade, because I did a factory reset and the icon came back. All the issues I had went away too. Very Very impressed by this beta.

I am having two issues:
1. My accessibility settings get reset each time I reboot my phone.
2. When I click on the gallery icon in the camera app, it says there are no pictures. It's saving all the images as an album. Not sure if this is a setting but I can't locate it.
Does anyone know where to report these issues if we are on the official beta?

Same here. I use LastPass and the app filling service (uses the accessibility framework) gets disabled on each reboot. I reported it to the app maker as well just in case it's an Android 7 framework change and not a beta issue.

I did the update .. once the update was installed .. did a full factory reset.
So far so good .. UI is fluid/smooth .. have had no problems with making or receiving calls, sending and receiving messages (SMS and MMS) .. Applications (which I have a lot of) are doing good with only 1 hiccup and that was with executing Facebook. The application would immediately crash. Now, I also use Messenger and Words with Friends (tied into my Facebook) .. so I tried Words with Friends first, was able to log in using my Facebook credentials no problem. Next, Messenger.. because I used the same credentials with Word with Friends, Messenger automatically logged me in using the same. So since both those worked, I tried Facebook again .. success, didn't need to log in and it when straight to the page.
Only other issue I have noticed .. my WiFi will disconnect spontaneously, even though I'm within 10 feet of it. It would also lose it's credentials (WEP info) .. so I need to re-enter to get connected.

I actually tried this and it said my device wasn't registered and wouldn't allow me to give any feedback. For those that are though, please please use that app to tell Samsung what bugs or issues you come across. Posting them everywhere else won't get them fixed.
Thanks to all who are putting in their input and testing Nougat to its limit. This is a rock solid beta so far.
I like it so far, just wish there was a root.
I'm getting a significant bump in battery life. I attribute it to the improved doze mode in 7.0. The blue light filter is something that is more useful to me than Samsung Pay!

Absolutely love the 7.0 beta so far. Everything is much smoother than marshmallow and the animations are a lot more appealing. You can tell that Samsung didn't intrude very much into the stock 7.0 look.
I'm constantly finding little tweaks that make me go "woah", such as the display resolution customization and in-depth battery saver settings. I also just found out that if you click the wording "Flashlight" in your notification draw it allows you to change the brightness. A small feature but I find it extremely useful.
Other than that I'm just genuinely impressed at the performance boost and battery savings this beta has brought with it.
10/10
Also, if you want a more stock look download the theme "Material Dark".

Silent Hours
Silent Hours is an application which mutes the audio on your device during times set by you, to allow for better sleep during the night or during boring lectures.
Features:
Perform a quick mute for a set duration
Mute the audio on your device during set times
Possible to also mute media
Possible to activate vibration
Set brightness to desired level upon mute
Lock volume to muted, to avoid accidental changes
Temporarily unmute sound on incoming calls
Reboot persistent
I am aware of the fact that several applications like this already exist on the Play Store, but I am of the opinion that more options are better, at least if they are developed with quality and reliability in mind.
Several of the other alternatives also lack own graphics/drawables, which makes them look different with different manufacturer skins, and many have not been updated in a long time.
Changelog:
IMPORTANT: Because of a crashed hard drive and Google Play limitations, version 3.0 and forward had to be submitted as a new application.
13.02.05 (v4.0):
Fixed issues with calls unmuting sound when it shouldn't
New GUI
Added brightness settings for periods - lower the brightness during the night
Preparations for bigger updates
Code:
[B]12.09.03 (v3.0.1):[/B]
[LIST]
[*]Added Quick mute: Set a quick, one time silent period
[*]The options to unmute on incoming call and to lock the volume are now period specific
[*]Remade the user interface to fit better within the design guidelines for Android 4.0 and 4.1.
[*]New application icon
[/LIST]
[B]12.06.02 (v2.0):[/B]
[LIST]
[*]Set as many disable periods as you like, on whichever weekdays you want
[*]For each period you can set whether to enable vibration and/or mute media
[/LIST]
[B]v1.4.2:[/B]
[LIST]
[*]Added Russian language (thanks to [email protected] for translating)
[/LIST]
[B]v1.4.1:[/B]
[LIST]
[*]Fixed a bug which caused audio to not be reenabled when it was supposed to.
[/LIST]
[B]v1.4:[/B]
[LIST]
[*]Added the possibility to unmute the sound on incoming call. The sound will be muted again when the call is ended.
[*]Changed so that when the hour or minute pickers loop when using the buttons to change the time.
[*]Stability fixes for the old settings.
[/LIST]
Feedback and suggestions for new features are as welcome as ever!
Planned future features:
More languages
Location based mute

I really can't understand why my applications are incompatible with some devices even though the Developer Console says they should be compatible. Both of your devices are said to be supported.
Thank you for the tip, I'll update both of my OP with the APK:s.

Great, I hope you like it!
That was fast! Thanks!
I'll check them out and hope to give some positive feedback!
Since I'm no developer I cannot help you with the market problem, but because I had some market, sorry, play store problems with the ROM on the Nexus last week, I also tried installing it via Web browser on my laptop. Last time that worked but with your apps it did not.
EDIT:
Okay, that solved the problem! At least installation via web browser worked on my Nexus but that could be the above mentioned problem with the ROM.
Now both apps are installed and I will try them! I think I will give you feedback during the next days! Thanks again!

I have thought about it, and it has been suggested a few times before for both this and my other app. I am a bit concerned about whether a 48 item list would be too long on a small to medium sized display.
On the other hand, for most users it is a one time setup so I guess the inconvenience would not be that great.
If I don't hear any protests I will implement 30 minute intervals for the time tomorrow.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Funny, exactly what I thought!
The .5 hour intervals were what I missed first but then again I thought about how long the list would be...
Any chance to get that 'revolve' function (don't really know what term to be used but I hope you know what I mean) like the alarm clock in ICS but with 30 min intervals instead of 1 min?
Other than that I like your apps! Very clean interface, not overloaded and they integrate nice into the new Android look...
Just have yet to check, if they work without problems.
EDIT: I also checked if the apps are shown on my LG P500, which I gave to my significant other. Both apps are available, so the problem is still on my ROMs side.

I'll look into the possibility and difficulty in doing something like that tomorrow, hopefully it's doable.
I'm glad you like the apps and the way they look, tried to make a unified look that went well with (primarily) ICS.
It's great that it worked on the LG as well! Strange, however, that the copy protection was the culprit. I only ever used it because I wanted to keep a better track of my number of installs, so if I had known this would happen I wouldn't have enabled it.
Good luck with the time settings! And although I appreciate all the work put into intellectual property, I have seen many times that copy protection makes problems (remember star force copy protection on games, I cracked games I bought, just because they did not work with that p.o.s.). In your case I think the number of downloads will increase without the copy protection, because more people will be able to install your apps ;-)

Me too, and since my apps really are free (and if anyone wants to "steal" the donate version they can be my guest since it's the same as the free version), in retrospect it seems like an odd choice by me.
And yes, it will probably increase. ^^
Silent Hours is now updated in Google Play Store
Changes in v1.2:
IMPORTANT: When updated to v1.2, times set before update may stop working properly because of the new way to set times. Please restart the service using the new method.
Added the possibility to set times with five minute intervals
Added a time picker of my own creation, inspired by the one from Android 4.0. This may have some kinks to work out.
Screenshot of the new time picker:

I hope you like the changes, enjoy! If you do, please rate the app in Play Store.
Hi Akerskuuug,
I just made an update of SH. First of all, thanks for integrating 5min intervals! It is just cosmetic, but could you implement it that way it is done in Android, where you can also get to for example 23.00 by decreasing from 0.00? If not it doesn't matter, like I said before, just cosmetics, as most users will set the time not that often! To not only criticise let me add, that I tested your app not only on the Nexus S I use, but also on the forementioned LG P500 (just because you response that fast and take care of us users ) and it works as it should!

Hi guys, i know this has been done before, what elements of a stock ROM can be removed safely...
I aways used stock debloated ROMs, done by hand w Titanium Backup, after the latest 4.0.4 update i did the same thing.
First time i loaded TB i believe it read 207 elements, i deleted everything i dont use, and i know it not mess up my phone... at the end, after many weeks of freezing/deleting 1-2 elements at a time (so i can determime what i delete wont cause any problems) i was left with only 41 elements! 165+ frozen/deleted !!!
First of all, before you start anything, back up your ROM with CWM or TB.
Second, use your brain and common sence... if you use Swype, dont uninstall it etc... i dont so i removed it...
BEFORE YOU FREEZE/DELETE ANYTHING, MAKE SURE IS A SERVICE YOU DO NOT USE, CLICK ON EVERY ELEMENT YOU ARE PLANNING TO DISABLE, THEN CLICK ON ITS NAME IN THAT WINDOW THAT POPS UP, AND LOOK AT THE APP NAME OF THAT ELEMENT, MOST OF THE TIME THAT WILL GIVE YOU MUCH BETTER IDIA OF WHAT SERVICE IS CONNECTED TO.
For example, i do not synch my google calendar, thefore i dont need that element, so i deleted "GoogleCalendaySynch" app element, but probably most of you do...
What i am trying to say is, do not blindly go and delete everything i have removed, some thing you might use will stop working.
Besides that, its a absolutely fully functional ROM with minimal bloatware, exeptional battery life, very fast boot and small footprint as a CWM backup file.
Below you see Screenshots of 5 pages Titanium Backup of what i have left on my ROM, and i want to insure you, it works just fine, but is very snappy, loads much quicker on phone startup, and a CWM backup is only 382MB
Battery life is very much improved, as you can see in the screenshot after the original post, i charged my phone, unplugged it, and went to sleep, phone was in service, absolutely normal state, only lost 4% overnight in 8 hrs! that is 0.5% per hour... i dont think there is a possible lower overnight drain that can be achieved when the phone is still in servise...
Here is a list of all (about 200+ elements) Samsung ROM elements with description of what each one does and if its safe to remove in spredsheet format if you wondering what is what before freeze/delete it:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...1gdDJRekl4QmkyNmIzUmRvX2h3UDVkQXc&output=html
Upon deleteing all of T-Mobile bloatware/spyware you will be pleasently supprised that the native "Mobile Hotspot" tethering app works! (I am on the $70 unlimithed 4G plan that doesnt alow tethering btw) Works just fine as you were on a unlocked Nexus device etc.

just root your phone, then get Titanium Backup from the Play Store, use it do delete each app you dont want while keeping the essentials as shown in the Original Post Screenshots.
Thats all
Thanks but I think rooting my Exhibit was what caused Tmo TV not to authenticate... anyone see this? If I root but keep stock ROM and prune it, will the same problem happen again? BTW I'm liking the Blaze
I think I will give this a try as I hate bloatware! What is the best way to root the Blaze, is there an easy app or utility a novice could use to root it with?
Is been 3 month since my OP, for the last few weeks i removed another 6-7 elements off, so i downed it to only 47 out of the initial about 210 the ROM comes bloated with !!!
Everything works just fine.
Updated the OP screenshots and info, check it out guys.
Happy Debloaing, and make sure you backup/freeze first before you delete anything!
Deleted 4 more elements lol i think ive reached the bare minimum now at 43
Been running it for a couple a days no problem whatsoever, deleted the "Network location" it does just fine w GPS and i almost never ever use location anyway, deleted "Serial number read/write" and "Service Mode" tried entering Odin mode, nonproblem, isnt needed...
Updated the OP w fresh SS of the Titanium Backup 43 elements left... i think thats it, nothing else that i dont use can be removed.
Cheers!
That's impressive man! And everything on your phone works perfect?

Yeah man, absolutely, i wouldnt b posting it if it wasnt
Freeze everything and youll see... very fast, no drain of battery etc, i lot of those things run in the backgrownd even if they arent turn on and you are not using them, like the "Network Location"
you can delete a lot of more elements if you dont use em at all, like the "calculator" "calendar", "music player", "video player", the "divx codec", "folder explorer" etc... i use all those things tho...
anyway, you wont see it anywhere trimmed so much, as atleast 15-20 of the elements i deleted, if not even more, if you read in other threads they are marked as "do not freeze/delete"...
I guess someone has to try it first, they r not needed, everything works just fine.
Updated the second post in the Thread with a screenshot of my overnight battery drain...
I do not think there could be a better one, only 4% in 8 hours while i was sleeping... 0.5% per hour.
I just charged my phone to 100% and unplugged it before i went to sleep, phone was in service, as you can see from the SS i even got some txts and emails overninght, just normal phone standby...
Great Battery
Deleted those 2 otherwise very important looking elements too, without absolutely no effect on my phone:
Ran it with them frozen for a couple a days, then deleted them, ran without em for mybe close to a week now, no effect on the phone whatsoever...
If you click on them and read the app names otherwise they look needed...
I was looking for the lowest possible elements in a stock ROM, and now i think that is it, there is nothing else left from the Android/Samsung system that can be eliminated...
41 elements only... OP updated with the new screenshots.
Thats it... absolute bare minimum has been achieved.
Promise no more bumps on that Threat
Does anyone know how to disable the OTA update notification? It's irritating me pop up in my notification tray all the time but I can't for the life of me figure out how to stop it, my tablet is rooted running Lollipop 5.0, I tried using the disableservices app and disabling the sustemupdateservice under the Google Services Framework, disabled both services under the System Updates, disabled updateservice under SHIELD Hub, and both services under NVIDIA Tegra Service Updater and still no dice, it keeps popping up.

Dang, man, you pretty much have disabled everything there.
If you have SD Maid or something similar, you have to freeze the following service or apps:

Thanks, freezing that with SD maid seems to have worked, I guess the disableservices app simply wasn't working because that was one of the services I disabled with it.

Been searching numerous threads on how to remove the OTA notification from my N4 now the 5.0.1 update has raised its ugly head on my notification bar (staying with KK 4.4 and I have xposed installed) A relative noob even though I have been able to work out a few things along the way I'm not very experienced admittedly - but this has me stumped!
I have disabled auto updates so 5.0.1 hasn't been downloaded, just want to rid myself of the annoying bar flipping all the time.
I'm intrigued by the possibility of doing this with SD Maid...but can't for the life of me work out how to access the System Updates screen you threw up there CM17X. Have enabled system apps in AppControl but can't find 'System updates' anywhere in the list. Version is 3.1.1.4[356]
Edit: showing google services framework details as example
Totally confused at this point as to what I'm doing wrong!
Any suggestions would be really appreciated. Cheers zhukoz.

Hey, thanks very much for going to the trouble of making that gif - I really appreciate it
Yes, I am rooted so can see System apps. However, that is exactly what I have been doing! and alas, in the whole long list of apps, System Updates does not appear ANYWHERE. Google Service Framework, yes, ConfigUpdater, System UI, etc all the other system elements are there.
But not System Updates Love to know why Lol
I guess I could just be very careful not to accidentally trip the notification updater! But its disappointing not to be able to utilise this seemingly easy fix. I tried disabling notifications for Google Services Framework and Play Services in Settings > Apps (which killed the notification OK) but had the sudden battery drain issue so had to re-enable them.
I gotta thank you for all your help though and the fast reply...much appreciated mate!

That's kinda strange. Did you tried looking for System updates on the search box? You should be able.
Disabling service for notifications and stuff wouldn't stop it.
Also make sure you have activated the "Include system apps", just for fun. Or try uninstalling and re-installing SD-MAID

Yes mate. Did a search for it before and nothing was found and 'include system apps' is checked. Good suggestion on the uninstall/re-install I will try that next.
Just a thought...having certain xposed modules installed couldn't be affecting this, could it? I'm doubting that it could but I don't know enough really to be sure Lol

Damn, un/re-installing didn't work either heh. Thanks for the suggestion though, it was a good one, and logical
I think I'll have to resign myself to living with the notification, unless I can sort out how to use the fotakill.apk mentioned elsewhere...had just hoped I could avoid it (and take the 'easy way out' lol) but it seems not!

I can't figure out why you are unable to see the ota or system updates application, seems like at some point you lost it. Maybe factory reseting your tablet. Not sure.
Make some memory, did you uninstalled it? (System update)
It is strange, isn't it! No, I definitely didn't uninstall it heh. I've only had the phone for a couple of weeks, though it came to me second hand with 4.4 installed not Lollipop so it wasn't a factory reset purchase.
Maybe something happened during the rooting process? (I used NRT toolkit to unlock/root/install TWRP - which went smoothly)
Just thinking, if I don't have the application present, it couldn't update in any case could it? (being rooted aside, in which case I believe the update if initiated, would fail)
Maybe it might be best just to let sleeping dogs lie, so to speak! By all accounts the 5.0x update can cause major issues with the Nexus 4 and I'm not keen on the new L interface either. Not knowing enough about how android functions, I don't know if the Fotakill/apk fix would work if I don't have System Updates application anymore.
Have to thank you for persisting with this on my behalf, pity we couldn't come to a definitive conclusion
cheers zhukoz

I dont know if the method you've used for root KK makes it dissapear, but what I know us that for KK it was too much. You can root KK with towelroot and just one click.
As for lollipop, I'm on 5.0 which is good for me, 5.0.1 is a no no

Yeah the update notification which is displayed is for 5.0.1, which is reportedly not working too well in Nexus 4s
Nexus Root Toolkit is what I used (which is one click for root) but who knows if the System Update application was there before rooting? The phone came to me set up already, not as a fresh factory reset so it could have been like that when I got it.
I think I can live with the notification prompt, considering the missing system update I'm leery of doing anything else to it now. Having never performed one, does a factory reset touch system files? I didn't think it did, and if this is the case then the missing app wouldn't be replaced. But as I said, I don't have enough experiece to know...my first Android phone, guess I'm jumping into the deep end after only a couple of weeks lol
But anyway, thanks CM17X. Really appreciate your help/suggestions.

I don't think that factory reset restore the missing system app neither, but if you're willing to try, try it.
Look at the settings > Apps > Disabled tab to see if by any chance you find it disabled.
Other thing is that you can try to install KitKat again, from whatbi understan you've unlocked your bootloader, so it shoyld be an easy cake to do.
Try installing Titanium back up to see if it can find it.

No I haven't disabled it, and it doesn't show up in Titanium Backup either so I guess we can say it has definitively gone lol
I've downloaded the factory image for kitkat from google dev site, but might sit on it for the moment. Yes as you say should be a piece of cake (especially with the toolkit) but if the notification isn't that detrimental I'll keep the factory flash in mind for now.
You've been really helpful mate, trying to sort this out. Much appreciated

How I did it:
I installed SD Maid from the Play Store and upgraded to Pro (might work without getting Pro)
I tapped the left top menu and the tapped the 3 horizontal bars (like Equalizer sliders)
This opened Settings > AppControl > I checked the box of "Include System-Apps"
Set Sort mode to Name (default is Last update)
Exit settings
Open AppControl from left menu > Start > scroll down to "Software update"
i.e.
Software update
com.wssyncmldm
4.03 MB
Tap on it to open pop-down menu > Freeze App
Not sure if this was the trick but I have not got the dreaded 143 MB update notification so far.
Hi,
I own my galaxy tab 2 since almost 2 years. Moved to CM 10.2 pretty quickly to improve it's reactivity, and it worked very nice for a while... until lags and delays to respond came back, months ago. It now takes some time to switch between apps, or to show/hide the keyboard, to type something.... Happens also during surf (firefox mobile - i use tabs extensively), sometimes causing crash. I moved to CM11 but that did not really solved the problem.
I believe GT2 is not the latest powerful on the market and newer ones would perform much better... but i'd like to try make that GT2 serves a bit longer, since i don't have that much high needs except surfing and reading.
I managed to find answers until then, now i'm a bit stucked. So as you'd guess, any suggestions would be welcomed

I (and several other people) have had issues with Clean Master and similar apps. I do not recommend it.
jrc2 > I took a quick look on slimroms and it looks nice. Dark is my color (ideal to save battery), and the embedded privacy guard is a feature that i'm very interrested in... (I use LBE, which is fine but i thought maybe it slows the system a bit)
Elbadri1 > OmniRom, why not ? Looks close to my current CM experience, and i read it's very stable. I could not find if that rom have also an app manager (privacy guard), do you know ?
I'm less sure about the cleaner tool, i prefer to avoid such apps usually...
Hi guys,
About the app it just was recommended to me by the Motorola customer services for my moto g 2 which had a problem with the internal memory. I usually use it for a quik clean and then uninstall it. Can you please post a link for the issues it's interesting cause i didn't like it at the first but since the customer services recommended it i though that it might be ok to use it.
About the privacy guard i really don't know but i can manage some of the app permissions (not all of them) and chosse to give it access or not. I posted photos for you but am not sure if it's what you need. Anyway can't u just install it after the rom?

Yeah i had the same feeling at the beginning but i had some sort of fake storage size and using the app helped to put everything in it's place.. Motorola clamied that it's due to a lot of junk files but actually when i deleted this junk using the app the problem is solved and that happened on 5.0. 2 android version :/ anyway thanks for your answer maybe it just helped in my case
Hi Elbadri1
Thanks for taking time to send those pictures, much appreciated. Indeed it's pretty much the feature i'm looking for. Looks like it don't gives you control on each app's permission, as LBE does, but it's a start. I guess there's no problem reinstalling LBE if i need deeper control (or if i miss the ad blocker)
I'm still looking at SlimKat/SlimLP, and that feature seemed to gives you control on each permission.

There is an Xposed module called 'App Settings' that allows you to control each permission.

I finally moved to SlimKat 4.4.4 Dhollmen yesterday, as i saw positive feedbacks on that one about stability. Nice ROM indeed, very fast to install, very responsive. I have to say there's improvement on my issues : switching between apps is faster (not immediate though, but way better), and the keyboard show/hides pretty much immediately as expected. This SlimKat installation is young, but since i did'nt had "slow typing issue" as it happened to me on CM11 (typing on Firefox could sometimes became painfully slow, had to kill the app and relaunch to get normal typing speed again).
On Firefox, i still experience lags, long page loadings, and sometimes crashes - especially if i open too much tabs. I guess it's because of my use : many tabs as said earlier, plus my Firefox is set with Desktop user agent - which might be demanding... But that's a 10.1" tablet, i prefer having a desktop navigation style, on many website it's way more comfortable, even if that costs me on the performance side. I wonder if a most recent/powerful model can handle navigation w/desktop UA "at desktop computer speed" - if not, i don't really have any reason to move.
Edit : some Improvements using thoses tricks (cache setting modified accordingly, of course) :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2280714
It's now close to something great in response, even if it freeze a bit and crashes sometimes when I open too much tabs or pages with too much animations, for instance. But I guess I'm close to what can be done with GT2 modest H/W....
I just passed to SlimLP... Great battery life and great overall experience but i must say am not using my tablet that much.. Just for youtube some medium web browsing and some music that's it. Very responsive compared to my omnirom and way less lag and a much much better battery life
Hi again,
This afternoon i copied files from a computer (windows) via USB. PDF files goes to my SD card without troubles, but xls files blocked (can't remember the message). I had to compress the files on a rar, luckily ES explorer can unzip and the files can be read on the tablet using WPS office. Also, I created a folder on the card from the computer, still trough the USB connection, but when trying to rename it : the explorer freezes.
Is there some kind of restrictions on SlimKat ? I can't remeber having that issues when I was on cyanogen...
Some of this guide may apply to Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) as well. I've honestly forgotten what 6.0 was like since I have been on the 7.0 beta for so long, but some of this is possible on the older software.
So the reason I decided to make this guide was because I recently almost sold my S7 Edge due to poor performance. When I first installed Nougat it was great, but over time the phone got worse and worse. I realize this is an Android thing in general, but it just got to be so annoying that I couldn’t ignore it any longer. I have a vanilla android tablet that flies and when I would switch back to the phone it was almost unbearable. This guide will help out significantly with that issue.
First off you'll want to enable "Developer options". Go to Settings > About device > and then tap on "Build number" 7 times to enable Developer options.

After that go back a page and scroll all the way to the bottom to find Developer options. Click that.
Once in Developer options scroll about 3/4 way down to find three entries that say "animation scale". Change all three entries to "0.5x".
Next we need to go to the Playstore and download an app called "Package Disabler Pro". Yes it's 2 dollars and yes you want/need it.
Before running the app download the .XML file I have attached to this post called "XDA.xml". Now go ahead and open the app and let it load. Next click the three dots in the top right and select "Import from xml". Select the xml file you downloaded from the previous step. This will disable some of the pre-installed apps that you don't need. I encourage you to look through this entire list and click on each item that you would never use, this will permanently disable that app from running or appearing in your app drawer. You can easily undo it at any time by clicking the apps name again (taking the check out of the box). Just to let you know I have 33 additional apps disabled other than the ones in the "XDA.xml" file, I have all kinds of stuff disabled that I don't use; gear vr, gear manager for watches, android pay (I use Samsung pay), S-voice (I used google dictation for everything). I really encourage you to go through and get rid of anything in there that you don't use, it will help the phone out a lot. Once you're done reboot the phone.
When the phone boots up go to the "Device maintenance" section of the settings menu. I at first ignored this section as I felt that it was gimmicky an unnecessary, but then realized that it's actually very useful.
First let’s go to "Performance mode". There is a ton of stuff you can do with this, but I am only going to address one of them. Click on "settings" and then "Screen resolution". Change it to 1920x1080 (FHD). You can always change it back if you really need something such as VR, but most of the time you will not be able to tell that there was a change in resolution.
Next go back to Device maintenance and select "RAM". This menu allows you to close out things from RAM that you don't want running. The problem with this is that Linux (Android) prefers to have apps stay in RAM instead of having to reload them each time you open them, so closing them is kind of counterproductive. Not only that but almost everything that you close from this menu will re-enable itself in the next few minutes anyway. This menu, like the "Battery" section, gives you a look at things which are running that you may not know about. I went through this list and uninstalled apps that I didn't even use so that they weren't just hanging around running without me knowing. A lot of the apps on this list were running and I never even opened them to begin with, that kind of bugs me. I got rid of the ones I could and then used Greenify (more on that in a minute) on the others. Any apps on this list that you for sure never opened, need to be added to Greenify (see next section for instructions) because they are running themselves and using resources.
Now for Greenify. Go to the playstore and download the "Greenify" app and follow the instructions to set it up. It takes a few steps to setup but you only have to do it once. Pay attention as some of the steps are a little tricky and they all must be enabled for the app to function properly. Once installed you will use Greenify to hibernate the apps that you found from the previous section (ram manager) that you don't want awake all the time. Some apps just run themselves without asking you first and sit there consuming battery. I would first decide whether you even need that app to begin with and if you do, then go ahead and Greenify it. Something to note here is that if you Greenify an app that NEEDS to stay awake to work, such as a chat program or music apps, they won't work properly. These apps are easy to spot because they have little blue "gcm" icons next to them, so be careful. To add an app to the "Greenify list" (auto hibernation) just hit the + button in the top right to start adding them.
Once you're done with all that, your phone should be flying. It's not even the same phone anymore really. One thing I want to point out is that the Samsung keyboard on Android 6.0 was trash. It was a completely unusable piece of non-working trash. The auto correct couldn't keep up with any reasonable typing speed, so no words would be corrected at all and you would be left with a mess of a paragraph. I solved that with Swiftkey originally, but for some odd reason it was never blazing fast on this phone. It caught every single mistake, but when you were typing there was just enough lag to kind of throw off your typing speed and it looked like crap. I am happy to say that on Android 7.0 the new Samsung keyboard is the best keyboard I have ever used. They FINALLY got it right after all these years. Honestly all of their keyboards have sucked. They could never seem to get them right, whether it was lag or just plain non-functioning auto correct, it was always something. This one is perfect and if you're using Swiftkey I would uninstall it as it continually reruns itself even when you force close it. It's also a resource hog, so if you don't need it, get rid of it.
There is it, you should be good to go with these small adjustments. A lot of you don't even have 7.0 yet, but when you do at least you will have a head start. There is nothing worse than paying $800 for the latest smartphone only for it to be a laggy mess. Hopefully this helps somewhat with that problem.
Good advice. I just got my S7E the other day. I was (am) so disappointed there is no root for this device. My other android is a note 4 and there is a huge development community, so that's what I've been used to for the past 2 years. I'm missing little things that you can do with root... Ad away for 1, and honestly 3minit battery and 3minit clock. Like I said little things.
And to be honest, the S7E doesn't feel "that" much faster than my Note 4. Which has got me scratching my head. It's faster but not the night and day difference I expected.
Well I look forward to nougat. And using these tips. Thanks!

I've disabled animations and disabled or removed bloat apps for years. I find I have to do a complete reset every couple weeks or so since being on beta. It gets HORRIBLE lag that no amount of cache clearing fixes.
PDP can actually ruin battery life as dependent apps are constantly running, searching for and not finding other apps they're tied to.

My phone has been amazingly smooth for 2 weeks now, night and day difference. I agree, if you get carried away with disabling packages it can be counter productive. I've gone through and just disabled anything I didn't recognize, like 200 things disabled LOL Yea getting carried away with that program can cause some serious problems. I only disable things that are clearly apps that I wouldn't use and a couple others that I know for certain are insane battery hogs like the tmobile carrier IQ service that logs your every action (I forget the name at the moment but it's disabled in my XDA.xml).

Force the app, and clear it's cache and data before disabling it. I was ready to deal with the root issues to Uninstaller a bunch of apps when PDP failed to extend my battery life, but someone in another thread suggested cleaning the app and it worked wonders for me.

Ohk
Guide updated to add Greenify section, remove redundant and (non useful) section, and new XDA.xml app uploaded.
I think using (a) Package Disabler is maybe one of the most important steps! Including a pre-done .xml to help people disable bloat is fantastic. GREAT JOB! Thanks given!

is there a difference if I just go into setting, applications and just disabling the app from there? is the app necessary ?

You can't disable services with the in OS settings, only applications and not system applications.

Sounds like the right thing to do, but since we have no real backup of our ROM, what does one do if the changes made by this app are not to the liking of the user? How can this process be reverted back to prior of the making of these changes?
