Really? When I updated from 2.3.2 to 2.3.4 I lost root so I assumed this would occur again (for the OTA update).

You lost root. You need to flash superuser again.

How did you rooted again? Just flash the su.zip?
Hey guys I have a question.
I received my ota update today. It says that it's downloaded and ready to install on reboot. However I want to save the update prior to this. Where is it located on the phone? Reason being that I have a custom kernel installed and I want to 1) revert to my stock 2.3.4 nand backup 2) install 2.3.6 update 3) root again 4) make a stock 2.3.6 nand backup 5) install custom kernel again and see if it works
I already tried searching with astro on / for update, aosp, 2.3.6 but so far no hits..

OTA Updates, Keep Root?

I just got the 4.4.4 OTA update and appear to have lost root, i'm sure i can re root again when i get home.
However i'm wondering what people recommend in keeping root when taking an OTA update.
Thanks for any advice.

SuperSU has a "survival" mode you can check off. It basically tries to keep root after an update. Luckily its easy enough to re-root the One+.

You don't need a pc at all, you boot back into recovery after the update and flash your SuperSU zip.

I'm guessing you used a toolkit to unlock and root, right? If you haven't done it already, download SuperSU from here:
http://download.chainfire.eu/452/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip
Then you can flash it using the install menu in TWRP recovery.

Of course it works. Also guys TWRP will try and reroot your phone a well after a flash if it detects you lost root. Not for nothing but some of you need to do more reading before you street messing with your phones and leave them toolkits alone.

@playya alright mate got my one plus one now. unlocked bootloader installed twrp and flashed super su. disabled update cm recovery on update. then did update from 22r - 25r then did 25r - 30O and obviously 30O - 33r I didn't realise that the update cm recovery would not stick after each update. so ive now tried to reflash twrp but command line says writing recovery ok and finished but checked on phone and its not there? any ideas do I need to unlock bootloader again which I doubt. but not sure if flashing update would also relock?? cheers

If you have root and a custom recovery you shouldn't be taking an OTA in the first place.

How to update to 33R?

I have downloaded the 33R OTA on my computer. I'm using TWRP. Can someone please give me steps to update? Thank you.
You put the zip onto your phone and then boot into TWRP and then flash it.
Or you can go boot into TWRP and adb sideload it.
The dragging zip onto the phone is probably easier for you.
Thank you!

Yes it did break root. At the end of the flash, you will be prompted to install SuperSU again. When the phone reboots, go back to your App Drawer and look for SuperSU installer. Press it and install. You regain root.
Does anyone know if it is safe to use franco.kernel r14 after update to 33R? Thanks

November Android update for HTC One A9

Did anyone try out last night's software update? Any noticeable changes?
Initial observations: Up-gradation and initial boot up takes quite some time. What is more noticeable is the phone heating up during this process.
Found the OTA: (OTA_HIA_AERO_UL_M60_SENSE7GP_ATT_NA_Gen_Unlock_1.12.617.6-1.11.617.5_release_458832.zip) however TWRP nor stock recovery + stock boot will install it.

That said.. The november update is supposed to fix the stagefright exploit.. So this update is critical.

ota upgrade rooted then this is possible because I have personally tried. focus is on twrp recovery restore or install will need to be system partition read only.At that time I was using [Root] HTC A9 thread completed. The other two threads I have not tried.

You can flash it S-On or S-Off. If S-ON you MIGHT need to relock bootloader, but I'm not positive about that
This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3541020&d=1447433290
I just downloaded the RUU from the htc website
Won't I be able to push su.img back on and reinstall supersu.apk? Noticed that the first reboot when trying the OTA just boots it into TWRP. I'm going to try the RUU and see what happens. currently s-on bootloader unlocked with twrp. factory carrier unlocked

Noticed that the storage menu in settings has a new set of options to format the sd card or use it as internal storage. Before it was only a button to unmount. if I remember correctly. Oh and I can't get root. I'm flashing back until I can find a modified boot.img that works

I didn't get the system update notification..
I'm rooted on unlock version ..
I've read that some people get the notification.. how is it possible

Another upgrade question..

So, I'm on B380 since febuary or march (L09C432), and I think my battery stinks. It was way better before upgrading to Emui5. I haven't had the time to fix it but no I do. Just can't remember the "rules".
I'm no unlocked, Twrped and rooted. In System update I can download B389. But, will this work? Can I install it just like that? Will I loose Twrp and/or root?
I don't have a computer with me atm so I have no way of undoing the upgrade if I start it, thats why I want to be sure.
Thanks a bunch in advance guys!

i preffer no, because if you brick at certain points ,PC is must to unbrick,if your phone is hard bricked.so stay back is good.

I'm not sure about this sentence, u not unlocked, no rooted no twrp? If no make update without any issue. If u are rooted and u have root update will be unsuccessful
Anyway B389 is pretty good update

were u rooted at b380?
if so, which root?
Since there is already B394 and some reported B398 coming I would wait a bit longer to update your device. And since you have twrp it's either flashable through it or you must first unroot your device, second fastboot stock recovery.img (don't forget recovery2.img) and then finally update via system update or dload. IF you are not familiar with the methods or the process please use search function on this website.

But upgrade can
Ok so I ended up downgrading to B131 and from there I upgraded via System Update to B389.
I have installed TWRP, no problems there. But I cant get SuperSU to work.
Running TWRP 3.0.3.0 and tried flashing SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815-EMUI5.0 (which is what i think i used before). No luck. SuperSU app says "no binaries". So then I tried to mount system partition in TWRP and install Supersu again. Made no difference.
I have also tried flashing a newer version och SuperSU, but that didnt help.
So, what am I missing guys?
