S5 is dying out - Verizon Galaxy S 5 General

Well it seems a lot of devs are moving on from verizon s5 especially with a Cid 11 . Soon I will be ditching my s5 I have about 5 mnths left on my contract and will be moving on to a different carrier.
I would like to give thanks too all the devs who kept the S5 going this long !!

Mine with CM13 is still a lot better than a lot of budget phones. I plan to keep mine for another couple ions..

i just bought a 2nd s5 vzw from work with an unlockable bootloader. this things brand new feeling while my original is literally in the worst shape you can think of

Project fi is looking pretty good right now I recommend anyone who reads this just check out project Fi screw big red

I keep my S5 around as a backup/overseas phone. I'm on OLD firmware and using Safestrap to boot in to Eclipse 2.0 ROM. I wouldn't mind updating it to a newer ROM, but don't want to lose root, and since we're talking about a Verizon S5... I just haven't kept up on it. Can anyone point me to a thread that would break down my options?
Kernel version 3.4.0
Baseband: G900VVRU1ANI2
Hardware version G900V.05

Yeah the forums dying out as the phone ages is part of the life cycle of the phone. Same thing happened back in the Galaxy Nexus days as that phone aged. People move on to the next good phone. This is exactly why I went ahead and took my emc11 S5 back to stock. At least this way I can enjoy the full MM experience. I'll probably keep this phone until the S8 comes out. When that hits, the price will drop significantly on the S7 and that will be my next purchase. It is slated to go to Nougat, the S5 isn't.

That's good if you like running a stock phone unrooted because big red will have it locked down also bye bye big red for me

For those with cid 11 you might want to start thinking about moving on from verizon as it will be a matter of time before verizon locks down everything. Now there are a lot of carrier's out there where their phones can have the bootloader unlocked.

Well 3 months and counting until my contract is up with verizon. ProjectFi is looking good. Verizon won't be pushing all their bloatware garbage on me and their over priced packages with all these hidden fees. Bye bye big red crap!!

Well went into verizon store yesterday to find out how much it would cost to cancel my contract those idiots told me it would be $ 160.00 with only 3 months left on my contract. What a crook verizon is pieces of dirt!!

Here's an idea

If you are like me that is in an ATT plan and is forced to wait an entire year to upgrade your phone here is a tip.
Right now another week has passed and we still have no reports on the ICS update we are suppost to be waiting and Jellybean is right around the corner. My guess is that this model is going to be outmoded in a matter of time and no more updates will be provided for us. This is still not official but it is a posibility. I have been looking up and Cyanogen is going to launch CM10 that is basicily Jelly. If the phone does get out moded then there is the perfect reason to root and apply CM10 when it becomes available. Sure you will no longer have the Samsung Galaxy style of android but still Jelly's UI is really beautiful and wohld work with a beautiful phone such as the Skyrocket.

You do realize you're on forum where the entire purpose is to root and flash custom ROM's right? Kinda preaching to the choir here bud.

T-Mobile has confirmed Marshmallow for Note 5

Take this with a grain of salt but the Software Updates page at T-Mobile has been updated and the Note 5 is on there. Now we all knew that it would be updated to Marshmallow but maybe this is a sign that we will see it sooner than later.

When this is released by T-Mobile will i need to un-root to get the OTA update? If so, will there be a root in the works for Android M? I am rooted on 5.1.1 BOH6 with Arter97 Kernel, Xposed and the latest TWRP. Just curious thanks for all the hard work devs.
My reason for asking is probably the same as anyone else. I want the newest OS but I want to keep the tweaks made possible through root such as, modifying the build.prop file to fix the RAM leak, better battery life through titanium back up by freezing apps and adding some features by editing the /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db in SQLite Editor
Great, get ready for all the complaining about the update not being fast enough to arrive. Only to be followed up with complaints about how the update made the phone slow and the battery drain.

Yes, if you want to get OTA updates the phone cannot be rooted.
Good luck,
Have a great evening!
You won't have to unroot to update. Not with smart switch on your computer, however it will unroot your phone, and generally when android updates a whole system, root is lost till someone figures it out, when kit Kat first came out root took forever

Funny when I read that I was like wow no matter what forum I am a part of these sad to say but real bad (tried to keep it clean) questions get asked. Come on people do your research before you root. Also how do you expect people to see into the future and answer what will happen down the line

Edit: I think that's wrong. If you click testing phase it brings the pink line over to testing, if you click completed it brings it all the way over. If you click note 5 under the updates, it shows that it's still under manufacturing development
still shows manufacturer development for me.... hopefully changes.. .the marshmallow leak has been pretty stable, but it occasionally reboots while on calls still.

Save your finger until Mid-Late January.
International versions updated by Samsung haven't even gotten it, and historically they get it a month or more before the carriers in the US release theirs.

Assuming you did something that would trigger Knox being ticked on your device, doesn't it void your warranty? How would you be able to get a replacement? I would like to know lol.
I just got a refurb today, that was KNOX tripped. TMo said "we can ship you out a new one, but we can't guarantee that the counter won't be tripped." F that noise!

I don't think they check if Knox is tripped mine was tripped because of the MM leak it locked me out and it wouldn't boot up past the boot screen after I had received my replacement I was able to get the older one back to stock I just sent it in like that and they haven't told me anything it's been 1 week
They are amazing, at least from my experiences. They consistently know everyone by name in the store and always turn a blind eye to KNOX issues.
I was pissed that a promotion wasn't available even though it was still on the website. A supervisor agreed to honor it as a credit to my bill without too much argument.

Looks like Sprint will be releasing the Nougat update first of all in US. In fact, they have released the Marshmallow before everybody else too (maybe before global variant too, not sure).
Here's why this looks genuine:
- No CM14/AOSP 7.0 ROM availabel for G930P, so it must be official firmware in use here.
- RAM is down, and so are the benchmark scores, so this is a test build, not a fake 6.0 one.
What do you guys think?
