G930F crashes and restarts - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

I've had my phone since March and never really had any problems with it. It would crash and restart every once in a while, but not too often.
Now, it crashes and restarts multiple times over the course of a day. I think it started happening after I updated my phone to build G930FXXS1BPJ1.
One day my problems were so bad that I couldn't do anything on my phone. It would lock up and restart every two to three minutes while I was using it. I was tired of that so I did a factory reset. My phone behaves a little better now but it still crashes many times a day. Even when it's in my pocket.
Is there any way I can trace the problem back to a specific app or firmware problem? I'm comfortable with using command line tools.

maybe try to gather logs just after crash? There could be some info of problems leading to reboot

Sounds good. How?

where d:\logs.txt is path to file you want to save as. Don't save on c:\ because it results in 'access denied'. To use adb you have to install ie. this

I restarted my phone and let logcat run until my phone crashed. Here is the log. I'm not sure what to look for.

[Q] Random phone shutdown...?

Hey folks, I have a problem (obviously).
I seem to have a problem that when I play Gamedev story, I sometimes get this freeze of all the software, and all of a sudden my phone turns off completely. I've already tried looking into things like overheating of the battery or the CPU but neither seems to be the problem yet. I can't seem to find anything on this critical error happening with the software I'm running. I have a SE Xperia X10 with 2.3.3 running. So here's my question to you guys: What's going on and how can I fix it?
Connect it to a computer use logcat (google "adb logcat") to view what the android log prints when your phones freezes.
Right. It happened again twice just now (once during gamedev story and once after it rebooted and I just started aLogcat). What should I look for in the log?

General errors, stuff out of the ordinary.
Collects some logs when it crashes, post them to pastie.org
and post the links in this thread. i will try to help.
here's the log after the most recent crashes (once again during gamedev story and once more after rebooting). I have no idea what the startup lines are for the OS, nor can I seem to find the logged command for starting the game. : (
I feel horribly inept right now...
Anyway, the forum doesn't seem to allow me to post links just yet and I hope this works.
pastie dot org / 2412136 dot js
dots are obvious and ofcourse you need to remove the spaces.

doesnt work
Alright. Just uploaded the .txt file then. Thanks up front for all the effort you're putting into this. : )

HOX on MIUI 2.8.24 v4 [JB], lots of errors

Hello,
First off, I know its a super buggy build, but some of the problem I've encountered aren't even reported so I feel like I'm the only one having them. As well, I would have posted on the actual topic, but I don't yet have 10 posts yet, so it won't let me.
Anyway, first problem.
I can't use/ setup voicemail! I don't really care about visual voicemail, but I literally can't even access my own voicemail. Dialing my own number just gives me a busy tone, what gives?
Secondly, on that matter, every time I make a phone call from my phone, the screen goes black the second the phone screen pops up. I thought it was like a proximity sensor or something, but even with the phone on a table, I can't get it to come out of the "black mode" while on a call. If I press the power button, the screen will flash on briefly, but not long enough to do anything with it. As such I can't hang out phone calls, so I have to force reboot after every phone call.
And finally, on the matter of the phone, there are times where people call me, I'll answer (get the same black thing) but I can't hear them at all, and they can't hear me at all, but we are connected, and since I can't hang up, and on a black screen, I am helpless.
Another problem... I connected my phone to my comp today to try and grab a new ROM, thought I'd mount the SD card, but when I plugged it in, there was literally no option to mount anything. I went through all my settings, developer stuff, nothing fixed it.
As well, since I couldn't connect to my computer, I couldn't run "adb logcat" to maybe see what was going on with the phone and such. So I used a mobile terminal app I use occasionally to run "adb logcat" locally on the device. Well when I first run "adb devices" my own phone doesn't even pop up... Yes, developer debugging is enabled, and yes, the mobile terminal app had complete root access. How do you explain this? A friend of mine suggested reinstalling the rom wiping the dalvic cache, which I did, but all the problems I've been having still persist.
It makes it extremely difficult to use my phone day to day with these issues, and since I can't do a logcat, I can't really report the problems accurately, even though I seem to be the only one having them. Don't get me wrong, I love MIUI and all the work the MIUI.us team does porting, but I just don't think I should be having so many problems.
Thanks for the help guys.
Did you do a full wipe before flashing miui? I haven't updated to v4 but voicemail/phone calls work fine for me on v3...maybe you should try flashing that instead? Can't help you with the adb stuff, sorry. I did have trouble getting my phone connect to my windows 7 laptop though but adb worked fine on vista

Yep, I did a full wipe many times actually. Could it be that I used a backup from an order version of MIUI (2.4.x) inside that backup/restore program and it's corrupting something? At least in regards to phonecalls and voicemail...

Try testing voicemail and calls before restoring?? I restored data from some games using MyBackUp Root or something and my phone has been working fine >_< If all else fails, I can upload the 2.8.24_v3 rom for you! I think blind is gonna have a new build up today though so up to you. Sorry I haven't been much help :\

I'll give it a try next time I flash. I do appreciate the offer for the v3 rom, but maybe I'll just wait for blind to get the new one up and hope I have better luck. I did a little more research on the adb thing on JB roms, and apparently there's some other driver needed or whatnot, so I'd assume that the terminal app I'm using on my actual HOX doesn't have said driver. However, that doesn't explain why I couldn't mount my SD on my computer. Like I said, maybe this next update will solve everything lol.

Random Rebooting

Hi folks,
Has anyones Z3 started randomly rebooting on its own?
Its done it 4 times in the last hour. Battery life is at 30%
Thanks
Mine none have this issue. Try using pc companion or flashtool repair your phone.

No I haven't seen that on mine, and I have run my battery down numerous times. As suggested above, I would look at restoring your phone or factory resetting it
I have gone through 3 Z3s and on 4th now, all were replaced for cosmetic reasons, none had any stability issues. All were rock solid no crashes.
Try removing all non factory installed apps, if that does not work try resetting to factory defaults. If that also fails then maybe your firmware/NAND got corrupted... happened to me with an HTC One X before (NAND). I highly doubt the worst case scenario though.
Thanks everyone. Ill do a factory reset today and see if that helps
Cheers
Bumping this thread to see if anyone else has had this issue... I've Googled, and some users have experienced this issue. So far I have factory reset my phone, but that has yet to work.
I'm getting random crashes, sometimes using the phone and sometimes while it's just sitting there... It happens like at least 10-15 times a day and I've only had my phone for like 4 days.

Same. Struggling.
i had my first random reboot yesterday phone was just sitting there.
hasn't done one since.
I've had the phone for 4 days (Software 23.0.A.2.93) and it randomly reboots 2-3x a day.
I've had the same problem as well. Sent it to Sony for repair. They said it had something to do with the software. Asked for more information, they said an app was causing it (I use normal applications: FB, Line, reddit, skype, dropbox). Sony said they "repaired" my phone by erasing all my data and re-installed the firmware. Happened AGAIN TODAY. BTW it shows up as a "system restart" in the diagnostics menu. Is this the same for everyone experiencing this? Btw i used the pc companion to repair my phone as you have mentioned before sending it to Sony; that DIDN'T work either
I'm seeing this maybe once every 1-2 days, after reading the program list above I'm trying removing Skype to see if that's causing issues.

Suggest you to update to .98 or even .105, do a factory reset and check how it works afterwards.

So you presume that its a problem with software and not hardware is that correct?

Yes, correct. I'm running on .98 since day one and never had any unintended reboots at all. As we speak, my Z3C runs since about 10 days.

How do I do that though? There are now more issues now. The necessary phone applications themselves are now crashing (ie. contacts, clock, walkman) I've included a photo for you. My current plan is to send my phone back to Sony for repair once again. The problems seem to appear out of nowhere.
Thanks in advance

Please use the search function, it's been explained a countless times already: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/ftf-stock-firmwares-xperia-z3-models-t2886061
I did a repair (still on .93) and it seems ok since yesterday but we'll see. Here are the instructions Sony sent me:
Thank you for contacting Sony Xperia™ Online Support.
We have an extended guide that should help you fix the issue on your phone, please follow the instructions carefully:
Visit this link:
sonymobile dot com/us/tools/pc-companion/
Click on Download PC Companion
Run the software and install it
Turn the phone off and disconnect it from the computer
1. No matter what the program says do not connect the phone until you complete step 9
2. In the welcome screen you will see the different modules available for you including the "Support Zone" option. Click on "Start" below it.
3. On the next page Click on "Start" under "Phone Software Update"
At this point if you get an error stating that "Unable to install update components" or "Server is busy" , then please proceed to step 12
4. The program will say that there is no phone connected. Click on the option below that reads: "Repair my phone" the program will issue you a warning about the content that you will lose during the update
5. Choose the option to continue.
6. The program will issue a final message warning you of possible data lost during the update. Click on the checkmark and then on "Next".
7. After that, the program will download the necessary information (5 to 6 minutes) and it will present you with a list of phones.
8. Choose your phones model from the list then click on "Next" then you will see a new section telling you how to connect the phone. (don't connect it yet)
At this point the phone must be off and disconnected from the PC.
9. Connect the cable to the PC not to the phone, then while pressing and holding the indicated button (in the steps on screen an specific button will be shown for you to press on the phone) connect the cable to the phone and keep holding the indicated button until the program says "the update of your phone has started..." (in some cases a message of "Installing drivers" will appear before the message of "the update of your phone has started..." is shown.)
10. If you failed to follow the steps correctly the phone will turn on and it will request that you "Proceed with the following steps, slide down the notification bar", If this happens disconnect the phone from the cable, turn it off and repeat from step 9).
11. If the phone is connected properly, PC Companion will proceed with the update ( It will tell you to let go of the back key) then wait for the update to finish and follow instructions on screen to disconnect the unit.
Dear Customer,
12. If "Unable to install update components"
1. Close PC Companion
2. Install Java from: java dot com
3. Start PC Companion again and try to do the software unlock process once more.
Note: If you wish only to update the unit wait for the program to open and then select the quick link on the upper left corner that says "Update Phone/Tablet" and follow the instructions to perform the update. (the PC may request for the phone to be placed in Mass Storage mode. Do this by going into Settings>Xperia>Connectivity>USB connection mode)

Same here.
i have the same problem but i have rooted min with Glade rom, works fine except for the random reboot.
Hi all,
2 days ago I purchased brand new Z3 and today the device started restarting every 15-20 minutes. There are no external factor that seems to be causing it – the phone restarts without being in use. What I’ve notice is that it’s doing a “Soft Reboot”.
Some additional info – after the phone was turned on for first time it asked for an Software Update to Android 5.0. After installation it rebooted and asked for another update. The heaviest app that is currently running is Facebook.
I would really appreciate any suggestions as I would like to avoid waiting for two weeks for the service centre to do something, that I can also do.
Thanks!

Phone Crashing

Having issues with my phone crashing randomly, I recorded a logcat before the crash trying to get information but I have no idea how to read it. Maybe someone can help out.

Will be doing something and the phone will just shut off. Varies on what I'm doing...browsing chrome... Playing a game...etc. Then phone wont come back on unless I plug it in. The battery is never dead when it shuts off or when I plug it in and reboot it.
Have a look at last_kmsg log immediately after it happens. Logcat only really shows what android is doing not what kernel is doing.
too much
Code:
E/PowerHAL(753): touch_boost: failed to send: No such file or directory
messages, I know it;s not much of an issue and that the mpdecisions are trying to overwrite and thus failing, but try
1.Changing kernel
2.Reverting to stock

Question Problems with Random Shutdowns and Inability to play certain games.

Hello. Rather new here. I have newly purchased a Red Magic 7 Pro from their Official Website. It hasn't even been 10 minutes since I got it before it started having problems like random shut down and reboots.
I've reached out to their support page now where they've told me to try updating the version of the phone. I've done both online updates and local updates, but neither method worked. I've thought about sending the phone back for a replacement if this continues, but I'd rather see if I can resolve the issue first before resorting to that
Mine is the global version and I've been told the update to download in the US and Asia update 3.14. The current version it's running is 3.12
I've considered rooting the device to see if I can do a true factory reset since their method of resetting it via the phone's settings and getting in its debug menu has done nothing. But it's still under warranty so if they give me the option to return it for a new one I will. Hopefully, if this is busted, it's only this particular phone.
When you got the the phone new did you transfer the data of your old phone?
Yea I was trying to transfer files at the time to my other android.

There was a bug in the beginning i've you transfer files the Cellar data will never connect and turn off on with cause the phone to overheat. But you got a different bug i see. you can only try to update the phone to 3.14 or factory reset without transfer the apps first and update then. Btw ask on Reddit there are more active people.

Update link: https://help.redmagic.gg/hc/en-us/articles/6360319907865-REDMAGIC-7-Pro\
I've tried updating first before transferring, but I get the same errors on the images above.
Depending on how often it reboots, in some cases it gets stuck on gaming mode and I have to wipe the data via holding down the volume down and power button method.
Some other causes include missing apps as it keeps resetting. The common factors is that certain games fail to download and random reboots.
The reboots happen pretty frequently when I try to update using Wifi. Even if it does go through, I get the update package error or poor signals error even though I have a solid internet connection.
And thanks I'll check out the Reddit page for more solutions there

Hmm can you check your google play system update. There is a bug that hasn't been fixed it can't update so the phone will reboot twice.
The only options is to reflash the software or send it back for a replacement.
