Anyone on T-Mobile? - Lenovo Phab 2 Pro Questions & Answers

Just received my Phab 2 Pro from Lowes. Put my SIM card in from my Nexus 6P. It originally showed 4G+ (which I am assuming is LTE) but now I cant get anything but 4G and some pretty bad reception, averaging 1.1mb/s download to 5. I'm a good spot at work which normally got LTE speeds on my N6P.
Anyone else on Tmobile getting LTE?

Let me get back to you

I'm on T-MOBILE. I just received my phone from Lowe's as well, and I'm getting c. 60 down and 6 up on LTE band 4.

How do you know what band you are on? Do you also see the 4G+? Or do you see 4G LTE symbol?

I am on T-Mobile in Tucson, AZ and have found that I am getting an average of about 3.5Mbps down and 0.4Mbps up when using 4G. I know that 4G service in my area should be better than this, as my old phone (a Sony Z Ultra GPE) was getting over 40bps down and 10Mbps up.
I have found that 3G on the Phab 2 gets me around 5.0Mbps down, and 1.8Mbps up, so that is what I am currently using.
If I had known the Phab 2 was going to get such poor speeds, I would have gotten an Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra instead.

I show 4G, not 4G+. I determined the band I was currently on with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.simplyadvanced.ltediscovery

I'm getting extremely bad speeds as well. Going to try another friends SIM out with T-Mobile. If not, luckily Lowe's, allows us to return to store...

I did some tinkering with the APN settings, and discovered that changing it from IPv6 only to IPv4/IPv6 improved the speed significantly. I am now getting around 9.5Mbps down and 5.6Mbps up. Still slower than I was expecting from this phone, but much more acceptable to me.

I can't seem to get band12 on this phone. Anyone else able or not able to get band 12?

This phone has 2 SIm card slots, right, anyone tested to see are the speeds the same on both? I'm in San Diego, getting 3.5 down and 14 up, was getting 30+ down.
Just tested the 2nd outer slot and 2G only....

For anyone wondering how to do this:
Go to Settings > (Wireless & Networks) More > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
Then, on mine, T-Mobile US 260 LTE (fast.t-mobile.com) has the radio button selected. Select it again.
Scroll down to "APN protocol", and choose "IPv4/IPv6"
Thanks! (Also from Tucson! )

I am getting band 12, and I'm coming from Note 4 that was never able to catch it in my area.
On LTE speed.... I did clock the fastest test so far in my house on Phab, at 47 Mbps.
This is not to say it's consistently faster than other phones.

USE This APP to view LTE Detail. I have a Phab 2 Pro On T-Mobile and have no issues

I've never heard of red pocket. Is that a local carrier? Did you buy the phone through them or just pop a sim into a att hox. Are you sure there network is hsdpa+ . Have you had better speeds on previous phones.

T-Mobile "3g/4g" on AT&T HTC One XL!!

I must be drunk, dreaming or really messed up my phone (AT&T HTC One XL) because somehow, after completely crashing my phone and stuck at the white booting screen for 10 minutes, i'm able to get 3g/4g on my at&t one x now!! or, maybe t-mobile finally switched their 3g/4g frequencies?? but, that's pretty far fetched....
if i remember right, i once read somewhere that T-mobile was planning to shift their 3/g4g frequencies. in the last week or two, AT&T and T-mobile have been "giving incentives" to "allow" current iPhone owners to unlock their iPhones. Switching their 3g/4g frequency bands today might be a hint towards the new iPhone 5? a) t-mobile will not be getting the newest iPhone (if it is announced today) so the switch will allow others to buy unlocked iPhone 5 and bring it to t-mobile without being stuck on edge b) they will be getting the new iphone but have to switch frequency bands for compatibility reasons. I suppose today would be the best time (just in time before the debut of the next "iPhone"), if they really did switch their frequency bands.
thats really interesting, hope its what you guys been wanting!

Definitely what I've been waiting for. Currently on T-Mobile's $30 unlimited "4g" plan and was planning to switch to AT&T Straight Talk just so I would not have to suffer withstanding edge on T-Mobile. Now, I don't have to because they finally hit the switch for their "3g/4g" on 1900 bands. Forget the iPhone announcement today, it's a fantastic day to finally be off edge on T-Mobile with the HTC One X!
flashed Viperxl OTA 1.1.0 and 3g/4g disappeared :crying:
I was reading that T-Mobile was adding 1900mhz to their network to encourage iPhone users to switch. It would make since that with the release of the new iPhone, they would be rolling out that frequency to try and nab some customers.

Changing the rom made your phone hit edge speeds again? Maybe it was never really hitting 3G? Just showing so? Also have a HOX on T-Mobile, can't stand edge

First thing I'd do is switch back to whatever rom gave you 3G speeds!
To be realistic though, it probably didn't have anything to do with the rom. T-Mobile is probably testing their equipment and you happened to see 3G speeds while they were doing so. Then they probably turned it back off, but it means that your market is probably ready for the official upgrade. I know when my city went from EDGE to 3G it flickered on and off over a few days as they tested it, and then it was on for good. I'm on AT&T though. I don't know T-Mobile's practices.

I was flashing alot and messing with alot of things. Maybe they got changed/replaced in the OTA? Or, it might just be that T-Mobile turned on their 1900mhz for a hour or two to test it when no one was awake (2am). But, I was definitely getting 3g/HSPA speeds. Did speed tests and they average 6/8mbps which were the same as my Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile's HSPA+.

T-Mobile's latest campaign is to enable their HSPA+ 42 to work on the 1900 frequency. New York, Seattle, Las Vegas, and Washington, D.C., already have the new HSPA+ 42 enabled and they are testing in other large markets. I wonder though, they are doing this for the iPhone 4S which only supports HSPA+ 14.4 but will the one X support the HSPA+ 42 when it is fully rolled out?

Nice. could you upload screentshots of your APNs? I wonder if that makes a difference...I was doing research and found a crowdsourced map of current markets that have reported 3g/4g on 1900 bands. http://www.airportal.de/ My area, other people have reported 3g/4g also but I can't seem to get 3g/4g anymore...maybe it's my current set-up.
Please delete
Tried to delete it myself, but it lets me edit, I cannot figure out what to click to delete it....
T-Mobile is refarming their pcs frequency to be hspa which is probably what you see. It is not fully widespread yet but should be by end of year (or so they claim) I'm in New York and have towels here and there where it switches and stops back to edge one out of the coverage area.

What exact rom or ruu did you use.? I'm guessing you Adb pushed an ruu if your phone was stuck at the white screen? And what exact area are you in? I'd love to mess around with my one x and see if I get similar results to yours
I was furiously attempting to force WCDMA on my phone during my commute to Mountain View, CA this morning after stumbling across this thread. I have a One X (AT&T) with a cut T-Mobile SIM running CleanROM V Preview SP1.
Anyway, after doing a *#*#4636#*#* and setting the device to WCDMA only, I was able to achieve a respectable 8.91Mbps down and 3.56Mbps up. It was short lived, and I haven't been able to replicate this outside of the area that I passed through, but I can assume that this is a good sign for those of us who are worried about having to modify anything on the device. Now we just have to wait for T-Mobile to finish rolling out the 1900!
Here's the official announcement saying they just added Las Vegas to the cities that support 3G/4G on 1900 MHz (along with NYC, LA, Seattle, and DC areas) .
http://blog.t-mobile.com/2012/09/24/live-in-las-vegas-improved-coverage-and-4g-iphone-speeds/
And this article makes specific mention of this being deployment on the 1900 MHz frequency: http://androidandme.com/2012/09/carriers/t-mobile-one-city-closer-to-nationwide-4g-hspa-for-unlocked-and-att-phones/
That map shows 4g 1900 coverage in Chicago. If that's the case, I'm considering swapping my unlocked ATRIX HD for the AT&T One X. Can anyone in Chicago confirm 1900 4G coverage?

AT&T - Just activated last night - Issues

Hello all,
I love being able to go on a forum again... I have been rocking an iPhone for the past year. Anyway, I just put my sim card yesterday. Unplugged this morning at 6:30AM., already down to 41%... I uninstalled most of everything. This is an E6653 Unlocked from Handtec.
Do I have to do anything special to make this work better with ATT. It's working, but the signal has not gone past 4G. I know for a fact that there is great LTE right from where Iam typing this. But blah. Do I need to call ATT and tell them I'm no longer using an iPhone?
The battery I'm guessing it's just settling. It was warm this morning, maybe some enrant thing from booting up yesterday. After a recycle today, it seems fine.
'4G' icon means 'LTE' though (on international models). Check this one out -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62587394&postcount=83
But your speed could still be throttled. ATT used to have 'different' LTE plans for iphones (they still do - I think). So people had to call ATT to put them on android LTE plan. Then ATT used to ask them to provide 'ATT branded' android phone's IMEI to activate the plan. It was a PITA & happened only when people were switching from iphone to android & vice versa (android to android has always been fine on ATT)
I just called ATT., and redid the APN's for ATT. Just to be safe. Still says 4G., it's my understanding that it should say H+ or something along those lines. But what you sent says it means mid ground. With the 4G, I'm getting 11Mbps Down, 5Mbps Up...

Did you reboot after ATT has changed your plan? 4G & LTE icons are mutually exclusive on Sony phones (country dependent) & they both represent 'LTE' in the US. So yes, yours should say H+ according to the speed, which can also vary wildly even on LTE. Check out the screenshot - all three were done on LTE. Interestingly, the second one was the slowest one when I added 'hipri' to 'APN type'. You don't have that, do you?

I've got the E6653 on AT&T and it only shows 4G as well. As schecter7 stated, 4G is LTE on Sony international firmware. You are correct about battery as well, it does settle down after several cycles.
So., phone finally died. At 2:44PM when I unplugged it at 6:30AM. That is shameful. Hopefully it was just the first run... I did nothing intensive, no videos, no anything. Ran waze for 15-20 minutes during morning commute. It died half way through my walk this afternoon using RunKeeper.

Yep, while I was sitting at the same spot & watching movies! Talk about the nation's most reliable LTE network lol But I live downtown & my ATT line is consistently faster than my other Tmob line. So I can't complain.
Also someone mentioned adding 'hipri' [=high priority] to 'APN Type' speeds up things. But it did exactly the opposite thing (second ~2mpbs reading) lol So that case was an outlier. But I do see 10-50 mbps range daily.

That is wild, thanks for the clarification. Also, based on your advice, I am going to remove hipri from my APN as well. I entered mine manually after I could not get LTE at all even though it was present. I found out AT&T downgraded my account to 3G only after using a Xiaomi device for a few months. I had to call and give them an LTE IMEI to get it switched back. Of course, I used an IMEI from a LTE AT&T device I have in my closet as the Z5 one was showing up as an old Sony P900 on the website under my account.

4G is LTE on a US network. If you had a US, Canada or Mexico firmware, then it would show up as LTE. Once one of these stock firmwares get released from Sony, then you can flash it and it'll show LTE.
As for your battery, let it recycle a couple of times and if it's still a problem, you can always reset the phone.

Definitely understand. I don't knock Apple because I've never tried it. Nice having you around, for a few days anyway Enjoy the weekend.
Why not go to Settings -> About Phone -> Status to check what kind of signal you are getting? It should correctly tell you whether you are on LTE regardless what you see on notification bar.

Factory resetting doesn't do anything, of the firmware is somehow corrupted you would be installing the same thing over and over. Yes it will reset caches but that can be done much faster and simpler.
I know first hand about the firmware problems, I'm on my 4th Z5 now previous ones had horrible battery life. This one is alright but not fantastic. Especially compare to my old Z3.

I am using my honor 8 on cricket and I am getting the 4GLTE symbol most of the time. Some areas it dips down to 4G, but that's just how the coverage is. Is it possible that you just didn't notice it on your iPhone before?
Also when I put my SIM card into the Honor 8 I received 2 messages from Cricket. One for data settings & one for MMS settings. I clicked on the link in the messages and the settings were applied, did you get those messages from Cricket?

Right. Also remember with Cricket you never actually get LTE speeds since they cap at 8Mbps.
Change in signal from 4g to 3g is just because u had low signal reception .

Why gimmick? It's just another name. Like EDGE to 2G, HSDPA/WCDMA to 3G, and finally LTE to 4G.

He just mean a meaning twice. That gimmick sounds funny:laugh:

US T-Mobile

So I have bought a HTC u11 plus and should get it today. What I have done the past week is check my bands at the places I visit most. And while driving. I used lte discovery app to help me with this and some Google searches. In my findings band 2 is hardly used when I am at home or driving. My 1+5 is always on band 4 or 12. At home is the only place where it is on band 2 but it switches to 4 and uses this mostly but I use wifi calling at home due to coverage sucking at my house. I did a Google search on band 2 and it is not very good around my areas. So people with TMobile USA should be fine to get this phone and use here. Also my cousin has a HTC 10 from overseas which has less bands enabled and has never had an issue with lte or call connection with TMobile. Once I get the phone I will do more testing for TMobile folks. Let me know your results if you have any.

Any updates, CJ? Thinking about doing this myself, but I worry about that Band 2. Thanks!

Lol i got the notification on this and saw CJ. For a minute i was like is he referring to me? Who the heck is CJ lol i laughed after i figured it out. . Anyway so after having the phone in my hands with all of its beauty and awesomeness. I could not take it anymore. This phone works great if you have a wifi and data connection all the time. But for people who still makes voice phone calls it is the worst.. so bad i put it on ebay yesterday. I got so frustrated the other day. I was trying to make a call and when you do, it drops down to 2g,3g. The call qualty on that is horrible. The calls always dropped and when i did have a good connection the quality was horrible. Half the time i would not get text messages and not everyone uses whats app and that is what i was trying to use because i always will have data. No VOLTE which i missed no WIfi calling which does come in handy. So i kept looking and band 2 does more than LTE I believe that band 2 also deals with AWS which is needed for calling. Man i tried.... i tried to put up with it here in the states. The phone itself is just amazing the Pixel that got away is what i call it. So if you are here in the states Dont buy it unless you have data connection and everyone has like data messaging or calling for a strong data connection. I am really sad and dissapointed at HTC the phone i have been waiting for since the HTC sensation 4g. Hopes this helps.

Well, crap. Thank you for conducting the experiment. Yeah, it's the Pixel 2XL WITH an sd card slot, which is what I want, except apparently without Band 2, the thing's hobbled. I was gonna install the Google HDR+ camera app and have it all! Damn.
I got my hopes up because I saw reports of people bringing the Exynos Note 8 over here and getting it to work, but IT has Band 2! Seriously, how tough is it to add these bands! Do people want to sell phones or not?!!
Anyway, thanks again. An answer is an answer, even if it's not the one I was hoping for.
And yeah, if you're reclaiming that term, I completely respect that, but I still gotta go with CJ.
Sucks to hear that. I've been using my HTC U11+ in the Bay Area for about two weeks now and so far it's been absolutely flawless. Not a single issue finding LTE or dropping calls.

I've had the phone since late December and have had the same experience in the greater Baltimore area. Must be different bands/stronger network in our areas.

Sorry for the delayed response, but I got it from Amazon. Took about 4-5 days to receive it even though Amazons system said 2 weeks. I also just noticed that it's a decent amount cheaper now as well compared to when I bought it in December by over $100.

I agree with this I've had zero issues so far since getting this phone. Only had it for a day now but prior to I ran LTE Discover on my HTC U11 and saw I very rarely used Band 2 (San Diego). After some digging I saw how Band 2 works on T-Mobile and I'm OK without it. I'll be in Vegas in a week so I'll be curious how it holds up there, though I don't really expect hiccups. The one thing I do want to get back is VOLTE/VOWIFI.

I'm not far from you and I just picked up my U11+ from Swappa. Does this phone actually read "4G LTE" when in LTE service area? I have not seen it yet. I have the Nexus 6 and a Note 5 and both have had that when in and around Maryland. THanks for replying when you do.

No, it just says 4G. However, when using apps such as Speed Test by Ookla, it says I'm connected to "LTE T-Mobile", and the speed test are roughly what I was getting on my previous iPhone 6S Plus.

Thank you. I did install LTE Discovery and was able to get information on what band I am on and more. It keeps flipping back to 'H' loads which is made me wondering what I might be doing wrong if it is not in the phone itself. I am in a strong 4G LTE area for work (base) and home. My Nexus 6 and my Note 5 always read 4G LTE in an area as such. I still love this phone even though it's not 2 weeks old yet.
I'm tempted to get this for an upgrade from my HTC 10. I don't care too much about the dual camera for the HTC 12+, plus I want it in Red which might not even come out in the US. So with the bigger battery 3,900 mah, about $200 less and the red color now. Would this be a good buy if I typically travel around the east coast?
I have one I purchased on a recent trip overseas to Taiwan. My carrier here in the US is Tmobile and I only have connectivity issues in rural areas. Can someone point me to a stock ROM from Tmobile that would be compatible with this phone?
Thanks.
