Virgin Mobile MMS? - Sprint Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been doing so much research trying to get this to work, to no avail. I've changed the apns-config.xml file, used the Universal Vmu Apn Fix, setting many different apns manually, and flashed any zip that seemed plausible and nothing. Also just updated my baseband today and it didn't help. It never worked before that either. I know you can use a third party app but the third party app I actually want to use won't work like this (Google Messenger with it's nougat 7.1 features).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This one worked for me for cm13, not sure of this post is in the correct place though

I've tried that one too. Data works fine with it, but MMS still wouldn't work.

I currently use textra. If you read the bottom of my post, you'll see why I want to be able to send mms with any app.

[Q] Mobile network not working after flashing (ICS)

So, I tried few ROMs and kernels, but every time I had big problem, my network wasn't working.. Not only data, I couldn't make phone calls or send SMS.
Any experience with that?
EDIT: that happened only with ICS roms, now I'm back to GB and it works normally.

Bruce's CM10 JB mms help

Ok, so I'm running Bruce's cmX and it's great but I received like 2 photo text and it was fine but for some reason no more photos come through my text. I tried asking friends to send me pics and it just says "downloading".
I tried deleting the messages apps data.
I haven't changed any apn setting as it worked fine before.
I'm on 3.33 firmware since I flashed.
Using the stock messaging app.
I actually haven't changed any settings since I flashed so I don't know how it stopped working since it worked fine when right after I had flashed.
Any help is appreciated.

I have the same issue, on same ROM, firmware 3.32. I don't really use MMS a lot, but happened to receive some the other day and it just said downloading but it never did.

Report the issue to CyanogenMod, the device tree for pyramid that bruce is using does not have an overlay for MMS
You could always try fix permissions in recovery

I went into the messages app and hit menu-settings-auto retrieve mms (unchecked it)
Now when I get a pic, instead of just downloading automatically, I have to click "download" and it's worked 3 times so far. Hopefully it works for you too.

[Q] MMS problem with Viper XL?

I was on ATT 2.20 and just got root. Flashed Viper XL 2.1.1 and everything seems to be working great except MMS. I have the pta APN selected and that seems to match correct settings according to what I can find here. regular text and data connection seem to be fine just wont send pics. Any Ideas? I did a full wipe before flash and had to apply the camera fix.

[Q] Unable to send/receive MMS

I have been unable to send or receive MMS messages to/from anyone. Outgoing messages just get stuck at "sending" and I've had multiple people try to send me an MMS. I believe my APN settings are correct based on other threads here. Has anyone else seen/dealt with/have a solution for this bug?
I'm currently running CM10.1 April 8 Nightly off of a clean complete wipe flash, but I believe the problem has occurred with prior versions as well.

I saw some commits related to unicode encoding with the MMS app. It's possible (Disclaimer: I am not a dev, these are just theories) that these have something to do with the MMS issue. You could extract the MMS.apk from a prior build (where your MMS was still functional) and push it to /system/apps, rename your current MMS.apk to MMS.bak (just in case), set permissions to R-W, R, R, then reboot. If that works then we know there's an issue with the CM commits to the MMS.apk.
Had the same problem this morning. Turns out I had mobile data turned off.

Nope, mobile data is on and I have no idea when the last time it was working.
I can't be the only one dealing with this... Anyone? Now running CM 10.1 4/22 Nightly.

I've been having the same issue since sometime in march. Also running CM nightlines. I've read it may be something to do with the Access Point Names but no solution is given

What that means is that your APN's might not be configured properly. Compare them to the ones listed here. If that doesn't fix the MMS issue then we'll have to investigate further.

Hmm. Interesting. And you're using the stock MMS app in the CM Nightlies? Have you tried updating to a newer version?

I had that issue at one time on my stock rooted unit. Turns out that AT&T had changed something on the network side and my account didn't get changed. You might call them and check the settings.

I've put in a trouble call with AT&T hopefully they find something....
So according to AT&T there are no network problems but my phone is not responding to push notifications from them. They want me to bring it into a "core" store to have it checked out (not going to happen on behalf of the rooting/custom ROM). I'm wondering if my Android ID#/device hostname may have changed when I did a full wipe? Although I'm not even sure that would have any effect on my problem. I'm just tossing out ideas.

If I were you I'd just make a nandroid backup of my current setup, transfer that (and any other important data) to either my external or PC, ODIN back to stock and head over to an AT&T store. Just my two cents. You can always re-root and flash a custom ROM again. If you'd corrupted something through flashing (not saying you did, just a thought) getting AT&T to straighten it out and then going custom from there might be your best option.

Sinnce AT&T uses the IMEI number as the ID for the device, that wouldn't be the issue you aren't receiving push messages. I agree with mrfeuss, back up the phone, flash the stock rom, and go have AT&T fix it on their end. Then you can re-root and install your custom ROM again. Better to have them look at it than live without MMS.

Just used Odin to flash back to stock. After the Odin reboot how long should it take for the phone to start up? I've been sitting on the ATT logo screen for a few minutes now.... please don't tell me I bricked....
Never mind, figured out my own mistake..... Always factory reset/clear data before flashing!

[Q] Fresh install of CM7. CAN send texts, but CAN'T receive any

Hello everyone, I'm new here and new to all the rooting and flashing business.
I just installed CyanogenMod 7.2 on my LG-P999 for the first time. Literally everything was going well except for the fact that I can't receive text messages. When I text people they receive it though, and call still works perfectly. I haven't tried of mobile network works yet because I don't have enough prepaid load
I should also mention that I am not using T-Mobile anymore as I am in another country. My SIM is connected to Globe Telecom in the Philippines.
I've tried restoring my backup of the stock ROM, yet that doesn't bring the texts in either, and it disconnects my network when I try running a USSD code. I really can't pinpoint the problem so can anyone please help me out? :crying:
Thank you
Go into wireless settings and make sure your APN is set up correctly.
If that doesn't work, maybe you need to flash the baseband fix. I can't link to it from my phone, but do a search on the forums.

If you're on the newest baseband (march 2012) then flash the first link.

Okay, I flashed that baseband. I also took the initiative and flashed Mazout360's custom kernel, but still no dice
Have you checked your apn settings? Do a Google search for what your device and carrier's apn settings should be and make sure they match.
On a side note (not surrle if this will work or not but worth a shot) download Getril from the playstore. Its free. Open it and use it to check to make sure your ril and baseband are matching. When i flashed cm7 my ril and baseband did not match
-custom sig.

Yeah, my APN is perfectly fine, double checked online. I think it even got the settings straight from the SIM.
And oh boy. It says "Unkown RIL file found" and that my "RIL and baseband 'might' match". So yeah, I probably should download a new RIL, but do you know which one it is? I'm using the March 2012 baseband with the fix you linked earlier.
This really sounds like your sim card isn't working right. Maybe you could try getting a new one and see if that works. As for ril download getril and have it install v21y.
Okay, I took it to the extreme and completely restored my stock ROM, flashed the stock recovery, and unrooted my phone.
And... I get the same problems as with CM7...
I put in my mom's SIM card (same carrier) in my phone too to try it out. Again, same issues. Tried it with my dad's (different carrier). And again, same issues.
A peculiar thing I found is when I type in the USSD code *143# (the code for managing your prepaid account), the calling app crashes and the whole phone disconnects from the network service. At that point there's no way for the radio to work again except for a reboot.
This is getting really weird...
I'm out of idea man. The only thing left that I could think of would be to use ROM for recovery using NvFlash. I've seen Mansa_Noob recommend it to people telling them that it basically rebuilds the phone from scratch at the lowest possible software level.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248644 Here's the link to the thread about ROM for recovery. I have never used it and I know nothing about using KDZ firmware of LG updater tool. All I know about this method really is that it's a last resort for the G2X that makes it "unf**kable" lol
