FM radio not present. - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

Hey guys.
Is there any way to gain Over the Air FM functionality back on the xperia xz?
Xperias cheaper than the xz have it but sony decided to remove an essential feature from a pricier device... And they wonder why they aren't making profits.

They have removed a whole bunch of features from the XZ unfortunately. Not much you can do about a hardware change like that.
Can always listen to the online version or via an app.

Not sure it's removed, just suppressed. I believe all the Qualcomm chips have this functionality built in. I realize this doesn't solve the problem, just adding to the conversation.

With the development being what it is, there isn't really much that can be done about it. Online radio isn't really pocket friendly. Data plans ain't cheap here.

[Q] Does the AT&T One X have an FM Transmitter?

I've searched around and only found that it DOES have one, but no other site mentions that and I can't find anything that says it doesn't.
If we have it, then how do I use it?
inb4 get bluetooth car stereo... stock radio, no bt, and $150 for custom mount

You are right, all One X's have the FM tuner but the AT&T version is missing the software component. To get around this you need to root your One X and copy FM_Radio.apk to /system/app. After that the FM Radio app shows up in the drawer and starts without any issues.
You can get the apk here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25636866&postcount=2
Just want to clarify, you are referring to the FM tuner, not a transmitter, correct?
Radio, yes. Transmitter, no.
Parrot car system.

My vivid had one! Edit: It was a tuner not a transmitter. sorry
fm transmitter
SOOOOOOOOOOO many Nokia phones have FM transmitters, not just tuners, but transmitters. so you basically sit in ur car and put songs on ur phone and play them through the fm transmitter through your car radio. isnt that awesome! its like a basic thing in nokia now, most if not all nokia phones come with it. including the pureview 808, which has a 41 mega pixel camera sensor btw

+1
Also, can't we all agree at this point that the quality, reliability, and functionality of audio streaming via bluetooth has relegated FM transmission to sort of useless.
Also, you will notice all of those Nokia phones with FM transmitters are not available in the United States where the FCC has very strict guidelines about FM transmission.
Put this thread back to sleep!

[Q] FM recording on HTC Butterfly?

Has anybody attempted to record live broadcast on this device either using Spirit UL or other 3rd party dedicated method (like stereomix)?
Sony Xperia models can use Recforge app, Samsung have it naturally integrated. I never had HTC before so I can't really compare with other models. Am interested in this phone but can't buy before completely being sure it can record live OTA FM in high enough quality and most important in Stereo!
Would appreciate your help kindly.

A better FM app

I wasn't very impressed with Sony's stock FM app, so I loaded up Spirit FM from a dev here on XDA. It works perfectly with or without root and offers quite a few new options. I'm very pleased overall with how nicely Sony plays with FM. It was a feature I missed dearly on US Samsung devices.
Link to the Spirit FM thread is here. The guy gives pretty awesome support if you ever have any issues. There's a free version with basic tuning functions and a paid version. He works on Spirit full time, so I'd say go ahead and support him, since he's definitely going to support you if you ever have a problem.

If you could change or improve one thing about your phone, what would it be?

Hey guys, I'm doing a dissertation on the evolution of the mobile phone and it would be great to get your thoughts on the following question:
If you could change or improve one thing about your phone, what would it be?
Sensible answers please, thanks

For me a huge amount of ram, internal storage, a battery that can last for a week, water-proof and unbreakable. And have customizable rom that can mimic any rom devices you want (i.e. sony, samsung, miui, CM or even iOS). (it's not hard to dream... :fingers-crossed
the restricted ability to connect to a network. Apple has the multipeer connectivity feature which can essentially allow for worldwide connection almost free of cost. (I haven't read into it much so I may be very wrong). If internet connection was allowed such as the WiFi Freedom Tower during the Occupy movements. I'm sure this is far from likely to happen but it has been done small scale already.
The Whole Device
Thanks for your responses.

Is FM radio enabled in Sony Xperia XZ Premium?

Is FM radio enabled in Sony Xperia XZ Premium?
Any information regarding FM radio chip enabled or disabled in Sony Xperia XZ premium. If it is not, that's a deal breaker...
It isn't included in the stock firmware.
I've heard/read that the hardware is still capable of running the fm radio app but would need to modify the firmware to get it running.
I've tried transferring the latest app from my Z3 but it force closes on the XZP.
If you enjoyed data-free analog radio streaming and can't live without it, don't expect Sony to fix it unless enough demand is met.
I would've picked another brand if I knew this was coming :/
