H60-L02 EMUI 4.0 Issues - Honor 6, 6 Plus Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
My H60-L02 was running EMUI 3.1 B535 and i upgraded it to EMUI 4.0 6.9.1
It works fine and i installed TWRP 2.8.7.0 V5 which also works
but the second i try and root or sideload Gapps, it boots back into Android and its pretty corrupt, the launcher is just blank, but the lock screen, camera etc all work, i even managed to open the huawei app store and install apex launcher which works, but the whole OS freezes and is clearly corrupt.
I tried the downgrade method posted here but the recovery always freezes as 5% no matter what.
So im happy to make the best out of EMUI 4, just curious if anyone else has has this issue, also the multi tool seems a bit outdated for EMUI 4.0 support, is there somewhere else i can look for the latest OTA/TWRP/Gapps for EMUI 4.0?
Thanks

I managed to successfully downgrade back to EMUI 3.1
When it said to put the update on an SDCard, it meant a physical SD card

You can pretty much do anything Multitool does but manually.
Have you do factory reset after updating? It solves many problems.

yeah i typically do my own unpacking and flashing, i just use the multi tool for easy access to the correct versions of recoveries etc.
i should have tried factory reset, sometimes the best methods the most simple.
I have pretty much given up on EMUI 4.0, im back on 3.1 with B535 which is fine and stable.
Planning to get a new phone next month so i wont bother tinkering too much more with all this

Alrighty then. I just think it's a shame to give up on a firmware just because it seems unstable when it's not.
What are you getting?

Bit of a late reply i know.
I got a Xiaomi mi5 but returned it because i didnt realise how bad the camera was.
I have a google pixel xl now, and i was going to put my H60-L02 to good use and give it to my dad who has a galaxy S3, but a $5 sim adaptor destroyed the 4G sim card slot, so now i need to find a replacement board online

I'm stuck

Hi guys,
for some reason after I did update to KangVIP I can't get rid off it. Besides I got no wifi and bt and I was going to start over with b023 as suggested but at this point I wont bother anymore.
I did wipe the system, I did advanced wipe using twrp but no matter what I do none of the stock firmwares are going through however the Kanga one always goes through.(KangaVIP goes through only in TWRP)
twrp 2.8.7.0
wipe
advanced wipe
I select all the partitions
mkdosfs process ended with error=1
unable to wipe /usb
unknown mtp message type: 1
unable to wipe /usb
I go back, restart to fastboot, (device is saying there is no OS installed), I restore the recovery, create dload folder on my sdcard, put there 028 (actually I tried all of them already), volume+ volume - power and I get error.
What am I missing ?
Anyone can help ?
Thanks in advance.
Eric
First you did a OTA from B029 to B209?
If so you are now on a Android 6 ROM you cant go back to Android 5 without a Rollback from Huawei.

Yes I did then I wiped everything and started with b028 again.
Same thing, wifi didn't work same with BT.
Wipe again and this time I did local update and since the local update I can't go back not even b029.

Right now you are on a Android 5 or Android 6 ROM?
If you on a Android 5 ROM you can force update a Complete ROM to install a clean system and try if everything works.

I'm stuck on 6.0
I know I can do force update on 5.0 I said it above I just can't do it with 6.0 -> b029, only with your rom.
Anyone else is having this issue ?
The Kanga rom got a quite few problems no wifi and not BT, Google play services crashing (this can be fixed with gapps) my co worker just tried it with his own methods and same issue. After I went through the whole Kanga thread 60% of the posters got problems most of them are ignored.
I don't have any problems but I think the people with problems are people who have a DAV 701L.

I got DAV-703L, just simple question, why is the wifi and bt not working ?
When I get into Kanga I can remove the root or deny access to it is there a way to ditch it ?
Yeah I know it's working for you and it's not working for 10 other people including 703L owners. There is something wrong with the rom no doubt about it.

I think there was an error while flashing and without a full clean Rom flash i can't see a solution.
Before I got it to work I flashed it more than 3 times and everytime everything worked so I think don't think the ROM is that bugged.

The first rom you introduced is working "fine" I get the wifi and bt no problem but once I switch into the latest build it's gone.
Any idea where can I get full clean Rom ?
This one is a no go http://www.needrom.com/download/p8max-dav-703l/
I managed to rollback to 5.1.1 but when I try to force flash it, it says it's not compatible.
If you don't update properly to B209, when you flash any B209 rom you are going to run into issues such as the wireless Bluetooth and sim card switching for some. If you properly updated the dload method should have completed successfully. Look at the kernel and radio version of B209 in About phone and compare it to others and see if they match.

I don't want to use your rom even if you removed the Chinese it's still inside the system. Boot load times take much longer. Unexpected crashes. I did try it on 4 phones with OTA and local updates 2 are working but the Kang does crash twice a day minimum.
All what I'm asking is how to restore it to it's original settings, this was my worst mistake ever.
What I'm trying to say if I do something I do it properly just look at your thread 85% failure ratio that doesn't look like it was done properly does it ?

Really dude?? No worries, it will be the last time I do anything for the P8Max. Maybe you should just sell the phone since you're having all sorts of issues with it....or maybe you should have left it totally stock then. Or maybe read through the Mediapad X2 forums because the two phones are very similar.

Need, my device keeps encrypting itself!

I've only had this phone for a few weeks, bought new from Target. It is a US BLN-L24. It originally was running Marshmallow but I updated it to Nougat via the official updater (BLN-L24C567B360).
The first time I got this issue was when I rooted the stock ROM with Magisk. I later installed Apps2SD Pro (for linking apps to 2nd partition on SD card). It mounted this partition, I rebooted, the device then asks for a PIN# which I didnt have and never set. Afterwards I rebooted to @OldDroid's TWRP, it couldnt mount data partition, some error about not being able to find the crypto footer. I then used the dload method to rollback to MM, then updated to Nougat again, and rerooted, this time with systemless SuperSU instead..
Then eventually everything went fine for awhile, but it happened again. So I decided to try a custom Nougat ROM. I went with Resurrection Remix 7.1.2. And then.....it happened again. This time I had rooted with Magisk. I tried yet again, but with SuperSU. And yet again with Phh's Superuser.
I've also tried AOKP, AOSPA, LineageOS, OctN, all Nougat, the issue returns with all of them.
So, no matter what root solution I use, the encryption issue eventually returns. Magisk, SuperSU, and Phh are all supposed to disable data partition encryption. But it seems they aren't.
What I've tried so far:
1. 3 different root solutions, same results
2. Formatting data and wiping all partitions in TWRP immediately before installing a ROM zip, which is supposed to remove the encryption
3. A custom kernel (CycloX)
4. Formatting my MicroSD, as exFAT, every time I check it for errors in Windows 10 corruption is found and repaired, but it always returns. I had initially thought that the encryption might be related to the SD
It has happened numerous times, on different ROMs including stock, and MM/Nougat, and with different root solutions. I know when it happens, I get stuck on the boot logo forever. TWRP reports that data can't be mounted. At one point my phone randomly rebooted into eRecovery and I was shown a message stating that data partition was corrupted. Sometimes it happens as little as 15 mins after booting into a freshly installed ROM, sometimes it takes a few days, but it always comes back no matter what. So far several dozen times.
I'm at a loss as to what is the cause. It could be a hardware defect, a firmware defect/bug, or something I'm doing wrong/missing. So I really have to ask if others are experiencing this too, and what you did to resolve it, I'm sure I'm not the only one. Please provided detailed steps. This is driving me crazy. I bought the 6X to replace my Samsung Note 4 which recently died after 3 years of loyal service. I'm liking this phone alot, it's very powerful, but this is killing me.
If anyone can help then I would greatly appreciate it. If I can't get this resolved then I'll just sell the phone on Craigslist after returning it to stock.
Thanks!
C'mon guys, really need some help here. I know I can't be the only one with the encryption issue, since the 6X is encrypted by default.

Actually I think you are the only one with this issue. Flashing Magisk alone will remove auto-encryption. But then you already flashed custom roms.
After 4 more days of testing, I still haven't been able to find a solution. The issue has been less frequent ever since I started using the stock charging brick that came with the phone, before I was using a slightly larger LG brick, I thought it would charge faster. But maybe it was supplying too much power, which partly explains why the phone would sometimes act erratically on the battery charging screen while turned off.
But it's not solved, sometimes I still can't boot, it just gets stuck on the ROM boot logo, makes no difference whether it's stock or custom ROM. I can get past the "your device is unlocked" part though.
I no longer think encryption is the biggest part of the issue, I think the /data partition is getting corrupted. This partition uses the F2FS filesystem by default. The last few times I got stuck I booted into TWRP. But instead of doing a factory reset, I used the repair filesystem option on /data, TWRP says it repaired, then the ROM boots fine. But the problem always comes back. It seems to happen most frequently when I completely power off the device then turn it back on, but not every time.
Today I called Huawei customer service and explained, though I didn't mention TWRP, root, etc. They want me to follow up on an email by sending pics of the phone, then mail it to them so they can diagnose and fix the issue. I just restored the stock MM firmware and made sure the bootloader was locked. It was just placed it in the mail, so I'll wait until I get it back then test further to see if this happens again.

Hello, can you help me? I have the same model BLN-L24C567B360. I got this phone today and updated today as well right out of the box. My problem is that I installed TWRP 3.1.1.0 Berlin version for this phone and it doesn't work at all. Now I have my phone working ROM but with no recovery option. Can you give me a link with the files I need? I was thinking on putting back the original recovery.img file back but unfortunately I never thought on doing a backup of it. I read on the top that you have all original stock files. Thanks
@jaimejdv: Are you having the same encryption/corruption of the data partition that I'm getting? Because if not then you should start your own topic.
If you have installed the correct TWRP by OldDroid, via fastboot, then there is no reason it shouldn't be working. Instructions are available in other topics, I won't list them here.
There are some Marshmallow downgrade files on Huawei's website, go search for them and follow the instructions in the PDF they provide.
And BTW, I really don't appreciate you trying to hijack my topic. I understand you need help, but I posted this topic because I'm specifically having trouble with encryption/corruption. This isn't meant to be a generalized help thread.
Right now Huawei has my phone, I'm waiting on them to fix and return it so I can do more testing. If it doesn't work as expected, I'll be selling it on Craigslist.

Yoooooo did Huawei do anything yet?
I just got the phone back in the mail this morning from Huawei, after waiting about 3 weeks. And.....THEY DIDN'T EVEN FIX IT!!! They sent it back unrepaired, with a note saying it wouldn't be fixed because their technician found water damage. But I'd say that's just a generic canned excuse to not fix it. I bought this phone very recently from Target, I never exposed it to liquids at all. I'm very careful with my phones, I have 3 old ones for over 5 years and they still look good and work fine. I don't do stupid crap like using my phone in the rain, dropping in sink, etc.
So, I unlocked the bootloader, flashed TWRP, then installed Resurrection Remix and Magisk. I did no other changes whatsoever. And sure enough, within 6 hours it was just hanging up forever on the boot logo. I went back into TWRP and got the same error about the data partition not having a crypto footer. I can repair the partition in TWRP without factory resetting, and the issue goes away for awhile, but eventually returns.
At this point I'm really angry, having spent around $230 for this phone. So I'm just going to reflash it to stock firmware and sell it on Craigslist at a loss. I don't think I'll ever buy a Huawei phone again, not just because of this phone, but also because their customer service is crap and can barely speak English, as well as their failure to honor the warranty.
I don't know what phone I'll get next, I'll probably shell out for a new ZTE Axon 7 on Amazon, with a warranty. Which also has the added advantage of having better specs than the 6X.
Oh well, life moves on.....

Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with them. Pretty crappy that they used a lame excuse like water damage to deny responsibility in fixing the issue.
I agree with you, I will never buy Huawei again. The phone itself is great but the audio is so so bad Im trying to sell mine at a loss as well but no ones calling so Im tinkering with it again. I would be absolutely livid if I spent the money on one of the flagship Huawei phones. Oh well live and learn I guess, at least the 5T comes out sometime next month.

Has Anyone Gotten a Custom ROM onto a BLN-L24 (US Variant)?

I have tried quite a few ROMs, and all ended up going back to stock firmware because they wouldn't boot. I know I have to format data, and some ROMs ask you to change the data partition as f2fs.
Still, I think that there may be no ROMs that currently work for the US variant. One guy said LOS 13 worked, but when I flashed it, it failed. If someone has gotten it to work, can you please post as many steps as you remember on how to get it work?
Debrand to BLN-L21 following this guide and you're ready to flash cooked ROMs https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/guide-successful-debranding-to-bln-t3701050

Thanks, but wouldn't there be more issues down the line with a debranded phone? What if I soft-bricked my phone, it seems like it'd be really hard to restore? Has anyone actually ever done this on a BLN-L24?
Hello all,
I too am having issues with flashing roms to this device, US variant (BLN-L24). In my particular case, the rom boots up (EliteRom v7.1) and will actually function. However, wifi does not work, as well as I have no sound whatsoever. Youtube also will not play, nor will any videos, which I'm guessing is tied to whatever issue is with the sound. I have flashed multiple times per the step by step instructions, as well as following the Youtube video, all with the same result over the last few days. At this point, my phone is effectively useless to me, though cellular data does still work, just no calls can be answered. Anyone have any suggestions I might be able to follow? Also, even my TWRP backup that I made before installing the rom will not restore at this point. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

You must be missing a step or something, because [Elite ROM][EMUI 5.1] Elite ROM v7.1 for Honor 6X by HassanMirza01 works on the L24 us variant without issues, I have none.
Perhaps go back to stock and start over. I haven't had any issues with his rom and I didn't do anything more than what's needed to root/install twrp and flash the rom per his instructions.

I just followed the instructions; I believe to the best I could, and I'm stuck in a bootloop now. Which version of EMUI were you on before flashing? I was on EMUI 5.0 which may be my issue.
I started from EMUI 5.0
Unlocked my bootloader
Let it factory reset
Installed the Elite TWRP on the page
Booted to Elite TWRP
Formatted all partitions excpet for external sd card
Reformatted Data to f2fs
Re-wiped data
Checked that it was f2fs
Installed Elite ROM zip
Installed open gapps 7.0 ARM64
Installed the patch
Rebooted
Bootloop

On one of the attempts that I did for installing, I installed the patch and it put me in a boot loop. Maybe not installing the patch can help you?
I cant get anything to work for the US version. Sure stuff boots but some of it is just broken. On octOS i am unable to use root unless i switch supersu to automatically grant root to apps. I cant get root access by using prompt because nothing pops up. On crdroid i have the same exact issue. Id rather have the prompt than allow any app root access without my knowledge. With ELITE ROM my first boot brings up a home screen with no keyboard. It completely skips any kind of setup screen. I can get the setup screen by flashing a keyboard from an aroma gapps installer but then i lose google services. The US version also seems to be forgotten as for most roms you wont see it anywhere under supported lists.
I've never been able to get a custom rom to work on my BLN-L24. Everything just ends in a never-ending bootloop of frustration.
Though, I have only ever tried with EMUI 5.0+. Maybe an earlier version of EMUI gets better results...?

It really sucks that nothing seems to work. Ive tried flashing using multiple recoveries and ive tried all kinds of flashing to fix issues with the ROMS. Nothing helps. If anyone has successfully gotten a ROM fully working on BLN-L24 they need to tell people exactly what they did step by step.
It seems that for the roms located here, they seem to all assume that the phone has been debranded to bln-l21 variant. I don't know if it has any bearing on the current issues we're all experiencing, but I did notice that all twrps available for this device on the forums state they are the "Open Kirin Edition". It's been a while since I've rooted or rom'd a phone besides this one, but I've never encountered a twrp with a custom name like that.
I know that the developer of the EliteRom had his custom twrp, but is there a different twrp besides that one that does not state it is an "Open Kirin Edition"? Like I said, not sure if it has any bearing on things here, but I've been very confused about that.

For most phone i've ever owned you never had to change the recovery for each ROM. Its confusing. Most recoverys say Open Kirin Edition when booting. What confuses me is why we need to debrand to get the ROMS to work. If the phone pretty much run on the same hardware then why is L24 having so many issues? Why are the devs not testing on these devices?

Right, that's what I was thinking. For any phone I've ever rom'd, there was always just one twrp that everyone worked from.
Edit: found this while looking through the roll back to stock forum. I don't know if it will help anyone else, but figured I'd put it here as well if it might. All credit for this goes to the original poster johnnyrichter:

Tried this method after being on LineageOS for a week or two and having poor LTE signal, no MMS, and voicemail issues so I'm trying to go back to stock so I can have a fully functional phone since I rely on it heavily for work. Followed all steps using BLN-L24 B360 firmware. On step 10 I rebooted to update and it went right to "5% Installing Update" and stuck there for 5 mins, then rebooted itself, has been sitting at "honor" boot screen for 14 minutes so I made it reboot to EMUI recovery, wiped/factory reset, rebooted, loaded EMUI afte 2 more minutes. Appears to have worked and hopefully my issues are fixed!
Edit: Signal, mms, and voicemail issues fixed.

Hopefully will benefit someone here as well.
When debranding the BLN-L24, and branding it to BLN-L21, are there any issues with the ROMs once they're installed? I imagine the radios, and such are different for the two models??

Why are the devs not testing on these devices?

Devs can only test devices they have in possession. If they don't have your phone model, how are they going to test it?

well, many don't want to give them a phone because most developers here tend to stop work on a ROM and leave people hanging.
I have gotten several ROMs working on L24 variant...
Yes it seems to me any Elite kernel based ROM works or should work on the L24. But /data must be ext4 format. Then even that the ROM works, the fingerprint scanner never allows a complete successful scan. I think because it must be f2fs format for that encryption to work or something. This is the link to those ROMS https://hassanmirza01.blogspot.com/p/custom-roms.html?m=1
On the other hand the LOS based ROMs never work or at least they reboot and the screen is always black or the ROM branding just stays there flashing. This sucks cause I want to run the newest Resurrection ROM but I ask the developer about why I have that problem or how long that ROM takes to boot and I never get an answer. He also just put a new beta AOKP ROM up and it does the same black screen thing too.
I am also suspicious it has to do with the version of TWRP. I think some are capable of formatting f2fs correctly or the encryption or whatever. Point is some of the devs need to be a little more consistent answering questions at a minimum. I know it takes time to fix bugs but give us a little heads up.

Honor 8 Update question. Flash Oreo from emui 5

I have recently changed phones and given my Honor 8 to my daughter.
She loves things like snapchat and other social apps.... She is in high school....
Come to find out my rooted stock, with Xposed TWRP , does not like things like snapchat.
So figured would flash newest Oreo on it or a custom rom , then probably do a magisk install. At least that would give me some root options.
Problem is I have tried updating via updater, that didnt work.
And hear that Honor 8 has bootloader lock issues (Found out how to do this from XDA so that may not be an issue).
TWRP (at least the version I have) does not do a nandroid backup.
I would like to save the apps on there but do have them backed up with TB.
I do NOT want to screw up the process of updating and want to do it best and easiest way possible.
What are my best options for doing this ?
Thank you

hi
since 7-8days ago, Firmware finder server is down and we dont have access to it links so, you should wait for it to get back online and use oreo links
but the best instruction i have find is this one :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/guide-flashing-unapproved-firmwares-t3668306
Snapchat fails because it detects root and xposed. So you could just use magisk hide and delete xposed.

Yes I tried that , but didnt work right. So deciding on just flashing the entire thing over to Oreo.
One of the things I am wondering is what happens if I do a data wipe, and full Oreo flash from TWRP. Will it work or mess things up.
I finally have a hold of the phone today. so doing a full TB right now.
Trying to get a phone out of a hands of a teenager......
oops is EMUI 4.1

I flashed firmware over from Huawei website. and now it is on stock , all with apps staying, no root and stock recovery and locked.
When doing an update VIA settings it tells me everything is up to date.
Will keep working with it ,
Need not to try to do shortcuts and take my time instead. May learn something....
Looks like latest official update is EMUI 4.1 /android 6 Is that right?

Flash both A/B slots on stock recovery

Sorry if the question sounds weird, it's probably because I don't fully understand this. I know that the OnePlus 6 has two software slots, an A slot and a B slot, and I also have a vague idea about what those slots are doing during an update.
Looking around, I found a thread that recommends flashing software on both slots, saying that it could fix some issues. I'm currently on Oreo, and I'm planning to get back to 9.0.4., but I remember that during 9.0.2. I think, when I was upgrading from Oreo again, I locally installed the same update file twice. I installed it once, everything went well, I went back to the local upgrade menu after the restart, and installed it again. And the phone seemed to be faster for some reason, that's what I'm trying to achieve again.
The thread that I found mentioned how to flash the software on both slots while on TWRP, would locally installing it twice achieve the same effect? Or is there something else that I can do?
Thank you very much in advance
