[REVIEW] Nillkin Frosted Shield - Moto Z Accessories

Just wanted to share with you all how the Nillkin Frosted Shield stands out against other cases or protectors. Please refer to the images here. I bought the case right off eBay, $6.90 and comes with a free screen protector.
And oh my this is some quality product! After removing the moto style shell and placed this new case, it still feels great at hand. It makes phone actually much slimmer than using the style shell on its own. Plus it has that good grip feeling, making the phone feels safer for one hand use.
Best of all, it has that ring around the camera lens, making the lens more protected to scratches (i supposed) when you place the phone on flat surfaces.
The downside however is that the module pins are not protected against dust or water. In addition to that, the top corner and down below are not protected at all, so dropping the phone facing upwards or downwards may cause brutal damage to the device.
Cheers.

That's my sole worry with the protective case - the top and the bottom of the phone being constantly exposed.
Otherwise it is one of the sexiest cases around with mild to moderate device protection.

There are discount for this case at nillkin: http://nillkin.org/smartphones-acce...z-accessories/nillkin-motorola-moto-z-frosted

I was wondering since mod pins are exposed, can you attach mods with the case ?
Or you should remove case to attach them ?

The pins are exposed just for looks. The magnets wouldn't hold and the pins can't make contact.

It's the same even with Nillkin transparent TPU cover... it's very thin, so I don't think it could be different with any else...

Moto X Pure: Case With Flat Surface Back?

Moto X pure case with a flat surface back?
Hi guys, I'm new to XDA. I ordered a product called the Mountek AirSnap and it requires the back of the phone to be flat. What it does is basically a mount you mount on your cars AC vents and it comes with a magnetic adhesive badge that you can put on your phone or case but it requires it to be flat. Anyone know of any cases that would do the trick? Thank you guys in advance.
Just buy some 3m vhb tape. It's foam so it will work with the slight curve of the back. That's what I use for my steelie magnetic mount. Holds on like a wet cat to a screen door.

I am using the mountek snap over a year now but with my nexus 5 (and old nexus 4 before that) with the magnetic strip stuck on my spigen slim cover. And it worked awesome!
I recently ordered the moto x style and don't plan on using the mountek with it primarily because its curved back not providing enough contact.
Also the moto x style is so big and beautiful that I plan to carry it bare bones without any case (not many slim cases out there). That leaves me the option of sticking the ugly magnetic strip to its beautiful back... No way!!
Also beware of the magnetic field interaction with the NFC etc. That thing can potentially spoil the phone, my old nexus 4 touch screen stopped working right in the middle area. I am not going to risk that with the new moto x style

Thank you for the information , I have heard magnetic strips messing up some parts of the phone .. However if I get some kind of heavier case and attach the magnet to that case , do you think that will be enough space between the phone and the magnet to affect it ?

I'm a little confused .. Is the tape itself magnetic ? And if it is then wouldn't the curved back of the phone not provide enough contact to the mount

Yeah I guess thicker the case, lesser the chances of interference... Bear in mind MXPE is already quite thick in the middle, a thick case would make it less ergonomic. Unless you want to just use a case only while driving...
I would suggest buying any cheap easy to apply/remove tpu case and attach the double side tape and magnetic strip on it... I might do that using the tape suggestion..

That sounds like a pretty good idea but wouldn't the curve of the phone (also the curve of the case) not allow the badge to sit properly ?

That's where the double sided tape would come in I believe.. Flattening out the curved back

Have looked to buy some of this 3m tape to use it on my magnetic car holder but there are quiet few versions of 3m vhb tapes.
Do you remember which one you used?
Thanks.
Any kind should work. Just reference 3m website for adhesive properties that fit your needs.

Rhino Shield VS Poetic Revolution

Just as a starting point in this thread, I am very OCD about the things I use.
I recently purchased a Poetic Revolution, mainly for its looks, and its protection! The one downside is that the metal stand on the back of the case has a lot of give in its neutral position, and has an unmistakable sound of clacking metal and plastic together when moving the device or just holding it as there is no spring tension when the kickstand is closed. Other than that issue, the case is perfect and has survived a few large drops, but since I am very OCD about things like that, it removes how good the case is in my opinion. So I recently pre-ordered the Rhino Shield bundle with front+back and the bumper. I am hoping I won't have any issues with that case solution, if there is any other protective yet slim and stylish cases feel free to post a link or your review of them!

I just ordered a custom Toast wood skin for the back of the device, it may require some modding but I will post pics when everything is put together!
I use a modified Poetic Revolution case and this one is still my favourite case. It offers a better protection than that Rhino Shield Bumper. If you drop the phone, chances are higher that you damage the back.

I removed the screen protector and adjusted the case a little to remove the gap between the Frame and the display. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/accessories/mod-ultra-rugged-poetic-revolution-t3307492

Oh ok cool, I might want to do that as well!
And regarding the kickstand problem you have, you could use a thin metal piece + thin magnet to keep it in place. The gap inside the metal kickstand is about 1.4mm deep. Just glue a thin piece of metal inside ( something around 0.3mm ) and a thin magnet or magnet foil ( about 1mm thick ) on the other side. This will be enough to keep the kickstand in place when you´re not using it and prevent it from rattling.

Official samsung clear case

I bought the clear case. TMobile sells them. Compared to other minimal cases i have had in the past (and one other Amazon case for the note7) it seems better. It hugs the curves ans shape of the device perfectly, and the holes line up EXACTLY which often isn't the 'case' for 3rd party cases. It's also very thin and light and on my silver note7 it's hardly noticeable.

its $20ish. Will post pictures when I can figure out how to do so as I sold my Note5 already!!. Its a very soft TPU case.
I have been looking for photos, videos and reviews of this case too but they seem non existent so far. Whatever info you can post would be great.
I've been into slim clear cases for a long time. I'd like to appreciate the body down to its finest lines and curves, caressing its smooth texture, feeling the little tips and points where they sprout along the edges, admiring the beauty that is gleaming in front of me, wanting to grab........ok well you get the point. I risked my phones going naked for these reasons for a long time, but alas, the Note 7 might require a case from me.
Anyways, I would search high and low for thin slim clear cases that would
1) wont produce so much fingerprint smear
2) smooth as buttah
3) wont stick to the glass backing and create a rainbow effect
4) doesnt have sharp lips
5) its flush against the edges.
Now yes, it does attract fingerprints but less so since its soft TPU and I've come to accept the annoyance that comes with using clear cases that its inevitable. Aside from that it meets the rest of my requirements. Not all soft TPU cases are alike. This particular O.E.M clear case feels good in the hands. Soft, smooth (almost like hard plastic), and at times grippy. I unfortunately do not have pictures to show but may post them later. If you are highly interested, I suggest stopping by your local t-mobile store to try it on first. If you like it buy it, if not keep searching. Good luck! :good:
I ordered this case and and I really like it but I'm a fan of slim/minimalistic cases that showcase the design of phones. The material is a soft rubber(?) not a hard shell. It's clear so it does show a lot of fingerprints but it fits the phone perfectly. The case feels tacky/grippy so the phone feels extra secure when you're holding it.

A similarly thin spigen is only $10 bucks.

Thanks for the pictures. I like it.
Got this one as well. Got the Note 7 starter pack from Samsung which contained
TPU case clear
2 pcs screen protector
1 pc tilted wireless charger
Pros: tpu case is very minimal in when it comes to thickness so thats a plus.
Con: it doesnt have raised edges. So if you placed your phone upside down, the screen itself would be touching the table. And worse, if you drop it face down, the screen would take much of the impact
Screen protector:
Pro: its a curved platic screen protector so it wraps on the edges
Con: its thicker than your usual screen protector. Almost as thick as those invisashield ones. The more important negative on this, since it wraps around the whole screen even the edges. When i bought a Spigen Liquid Crystal case (for raised edges). When i slipped it on, it peels the side of the screen protector.
Tilted wireless charger is a tilted wireless charger. Nothing to comment except that it takes getting used to. Its just easier to charge with the flat version when it comes to just dropping your phone. Tilted one requires a little more alignment

Non metal bumper

Hi,
I'm searching for a non-metal bumper, but I want it to be as thick as possible. My goal is to protect the camera glass, I do not want it to make contact with the surface I put it on. Is there such a bumper? Thanks!
will this work?

I'm afraid not. This one was my first choice, but one of the reviewers says that you can feel the camera glass hit the surface you put the phone on.
I know you said bumper and not case. but I got this Spigen Neo-Hybrid case for the same reason, and it's pretty small and does a nice job of keeping both the screen and the camera glass away from whatever surface you place the phone on.
https://www.amazon.com/Spigen-Flexible-Protection-Reinforced-Samsung/dp/B00MAWRB44
I also vote for the spigen neo, I have the metal version but the plastic is the exact same, and I can confirm the camera does not touch the surface. It's the only case i've ever used for more than a couple months. i've had both the phone and case since new.
I'm using the Verus Iron Shield case with a Spigen metal stick on kickstand attached. The Verus case protects front screen nicely and the Spigen kickstand, when mounted in the center, makes it impossible for camera lens to make contact on a flat surface.

Count me as lucky, I guess. I haven't encountered any signal loss, radio or gps, and my buttons are well placed and responsive. Maybe Scruffy has tiny, Faraday hands.

Modify Existing Cases to work with 360 Camera - Pin Extension?

I Like my Cases, they are thin and protect the phone just fine. However, I would like to use my 360 Ca,era more often without removing the case or switching to one with a cutout or lame "door."
The magnets hold the camera just fine with the case on, but obviously will not permit the pin contacts from touching. Has anyone come up with a way to extend the pins through a thin case to engage accessories?

They make a case with the Camera Cut-Out : https://www.amazon.com/Essential-TU...3084238&sr=8-4&keywords=Essential+Case+Camera
Yes, I have one. But it's not protecting that section of the phone when it's on. I also have one with a door, but's a terrible case.
The post was specific as to what I'd like to do.

I ordered my PH-1 just a few days ago, and I have a case on the way that I plan to mod for the same exact reasons. That Tudia case looks like a joke for drop protection. The case, 360 camera, and phone should all arrive some time next week. I'll post an update once I get the mod done.
I'll be using this case for the mod. I wanted to use an inexpensive case in case this doesn't work as I'm hoping.

The pins only provide power. A pin extension will not do anything but power the camera. It won't be able to connect to the phone. Even some dbrand skins are too thick for the wireless USB to connect. Last fall, Essential discussed this and said it's very sensitive to distance. Even 1mm diffence will throw off the connection. The only way to connect an accessory is with bare contact or a thin skin.
But the ceramic back is tough enough to not need protection. I cut the Tudia TAMM case put for the 360 camera too. It's fugly but works. And been like this for about a year now and not a scratch on the exposed corner.

Some of the AMA's discussed scratching. I guess it's just a coating that scratches and not all colors have it. Mine is white. Only 1 corner is exposed but no scratches for me.
But some people have mentioned it getting scratched even with a case on. Sand, dirt, whatever gets stuck between the case and back sometimes maybe.
If anyone tries to drill small holes in a case and fill with conductive material, let me know if it works. I will be trying it as soon as I have an extra case! I'd like to know what the ACTUAL wireless distance limitation on the camera is.

Search about the camera not working with dbrand skins. It's already been discussed. I damn skin is thick enough to not work with the wireless data transfer. We know this because A) the camera powers but won't establish a connection and B) Essential themselves confirmed this. Some skins are OK but thicker textured ones won't. A case is definitely thicker than a skin.
Here's my case mod. It was just a trial run, not a case I'm using as my daily driver (I'm using the Poetic Guardian with the built in screen protector removed and an ArmorSuit screen protector used instead.) It din't turn out as nice as I had planned, but it works.
Thank to the way the outer shell halves lock into the TPU inner case material, the two halves of the case shell fit fairly snuggly, and the finish provides an adequate amount of grip. With the inner TPU, it should provide adequate drop protection.
The case is a bit bulky, and perhaps it would be a better solution to have a simple, adequate TPU case that can be easily removed for those times you want to use the 360 camera. For me, this case will do just fine for those times I'm going on vacation and want to use the 360 camera.
Perhaps it would be possible to modify the Poetic Guardian case for use with the camera. The back clear plastic could possibly be trimmed to make adequate connection with the camera.
This is the case I modded.
