Can't see Eduroam wifi on my watch - Samsung Gear S2

HI
I work in a university which uses the Eduroam wifi network. My phone has a strong signal and connects to it fine but my watch doesn't recognize it as even being there. Does anyone know why this might be? Are there certain networks the watch won't work with? It picks up all kinds of other random networks just not the one I need to connect to.
I tried phoning the Samsung helpline and they didn't know, and the guy in the support center didn't even realize that these watches worked on wifi lol.
Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received!

Hi,
Thats because those hotspots need a 'login ID' (username / password), and thats not supported on the watch i think.
Kind regards.

Thanks. That's a real pain as the main reason I bought it was so that I could wander the entire university campus without my phone. Can't believe the people at Samsung helpline didn't know this

XDA IIs Firewall

Hi Guys/Gals,
Does anyone know where I can get a cheap/free firewall for my PDA, I've started using wifi hotspots and realise that a little security would go a long way to saving my stuff from dirty little peeping toms.
If anyone knows a good one I would be really grateful.
Thanks everyone.
Terry
How do you connect to a wifi network?
I connect to the internet using coffee houses that offer wifi - after you have switched on your wifi (the little symbol in the bottom right hand corner (on most devices)) it will automatically search for networks in the area, when it finds one it will connect and all you have to do is open a web page, the wifi network will automatically re-direct you to their payment plan, after you have signed up and paid to use the service you're free to roam at broadband speed.
I hope this helps

That's fantastic, thanks a lot Rudegar

[Q] Three UK on XDA Orbit 2

I have an XDA Orbit 2 on a Three Uk SIM. I set up the data connection by simply putting three.co.uk in the APN field in connection settings. It connects fine and I can use it to tether my PC.
I noticed though that if I visit an adult site, or any deemed by Three to contain adult content, I end up on a page telling me I need to verify that I'm the bill payer and then I'll be granted access.
What is strange about that is, if I use the same SIM card in a Three Uk Skypephone and tether, I get no such warnings.
I can't figure this out.
Any help would be appreciated.
Also, while I'm at it. The Orbit won't stay connected for long, it keeps disconnecting. This s not a signal issue, the Skype phone will stay connected all day long.
Only difference I can see is that the Skype phone sets up a dialup connection to gain net access and the Orbit registers as a network adapter (RNDIS) device.
I thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

I see 38 people have read this, but no reply. I understand that I may have to wait a while for somebody to have the answer. I'm just wondering if there would be a better location somewhere else on this site for this post.

[Q] Any interest in a 3rd Party GAN/UMA Service for Android?

Hello XDA-developers,
I have developed my own GAN/UMA Gateway that runs in the cloud, similar to T-Mobile's WiFi Calling and Orange's Signal Boost.
With this service you can point your GAN/UMA Client to my Gateway and I will pass the calls to and from an external SIP Provider. You no longer have to be with Orange-UK or T-Mo -US to get UMA Service!
At the moment my network is not connected to the SS7 network so unfortunately you can't just simply roam onto it. However I do have a way to register existing SIMs with my HLR. Currently this means taking the SIM out of the phone and connecting it to a PC via a SIM Card Reader. I'm very interested in talking to anyone who could make this run as an App on the phone.
Once the SIM is registered in my HLR and the UMA App is told to go to my Gateway (there's a secret menu to do this) then the phone will register and Location Update on my network.
When it is on my network, it is no longer reachable from the Operator's network, again because I can't get access to the SS7 network. I'm very very interested in talking to anyone who thinks they know how I can access SS7. I have the SS7 stack, and the skills but not the access.
Anyway for now, I can assign a UK national number to the SIM so it's reachable via the PSTN. The MSISDN number can be call-forwarded to the PSTN number (not a great solution, but OK for now).
The cost of making calls will be whatever the SIP Provider charges. (Currently I use sipgate.co.uk) I plan on just charging a low fixed monthly fee to cover the costs of providing the access.
What do you guys think? Is this something that people are interested in? I realize without a roaming service it's no better than a Skype/VoIP type service but potentially it could be a very good service if I can get the SS7 side sorted out, it's an alternative to roaming when abroad and provide better coverage at home for many people.
All comments are welcome, thanks for reading.

umm yes please!
too bad so many people passed over this thread. what if there were actually some decent data-only plans...
Would I be interested? Hell yes.
I'm currently using a Galaxy S2 on Orange with their Signal Boost app and I was crushed to hear that Orange are not offering UMA on the S3. There's no point in me having an expensive phone that I can't use at home (or most places near home). Third Party UMA would be a small miracle for me.

Hi Alan,
We are interested in talking to you about this. Can we PM?

[Q] Restrict Data Roaming International?

Hey all! I've tried googling/searching XDA, but I must have my terms wrong or no one is talking about it.
Question: Is there a way to restrict which mobile networks my phone will connect to?
Device: Google Nexus 5 32gb, Stock Rom/Kernel with Root access
I'm switching to a T-Mobile Simple Choice plan with free 2g data in 100 countries, and going on a cruise shortly after. A couple of the ports of call are on the list, while others are not on the list. It sure would be nice to just leave my phone on and have it only connect to the free networks. I contracted T-Mobile and was pointed to a document letting me know that I will be notified if charges are incurred, but I'd rather not get charged at all. This I could solve manually by carrying the list of countries with me and only turning off airplane when I am there, but that does seem like a pain to me.
The other problem, cruise ships have cell networks onboard now. These networks are charged as international and not included in the Simple Choice deal. Even if I am in port, I am concerned I may still connect to this netowork. I imagine there is an app I could use to at least see which network I am on (I can't find it indicated in Settings anywhere - probably blind), but I would need to prevent my phone from roaming onto that network when both are in range.
I'd really appreciate any thoughts/suggestions. The only thing I can think of is some kind of custom block that would like me restrict network connections. All way over my head.
Thanks again
Matt
You're going to have to manually select them. I'd turn data roaming off until you get some where you know you can turn it on. Also, most port of calls have Wi-Fi and I'd use that where you can. You can often even get it on the ship at a port, although you might have to find the right location on the ship where you can do that.

Thanks for the tip about Wi-Fi networks. Absolutely. Unfortunately, I'm not even sure how to manually select the network to which my phone connects. Any advice on where/how to select that?

I need a TMob Digits guru

I'm trying to understand and refine how my watch works with Digits. Things like how to save battery. What connects when? Do I "need" a data? Anyone wanna talk?
So nobody out there who knows Digits? Well alright then!
I believe the Digits in T-Mobile works similar to my carrier in Brazil.
Actually the 4G of watch only work when your phone has disconnected and you do not have connection with Wi-Fi network.
In Settings have a option for turn on the cellular network in always time, but the own watch warns that consumes more battery and you do not have necessity 'cause when connected in Bluetooth your calls going to clock too.
Therefore your Watch going work this way: Bluetooth first, after Wi-Fi and lastly (you can disable permanet the Wi-Fi) the network cellular.
Sorry, I don't speak English good.
