TMobilesaid I had to ask Walmart but the guys at Walmart weren't sure.

T-Mobile says it's locked. Wal-Mart family plan says it's unlocked and I can use it on att and t mobile. Sigh. Any ideas?
I'm trying to get an unlock code for the same phone. I can't find a service online or Ebay that has the codes for this model.

hi there i recently have purchased a motorola defy which is locked to the T-mobile uk network i am trying to unlock it so i have a few questions for you guys. I have already purchased unlock codes of two unlock code websites and both gave me the same unlock code which neither work,also i have been into a local mobile phone shop that unlocks phones but they were wanting to keep the phone for a week and charge me £35 . Can someone give me some advice for instance can i unlock it myself? if i root it will that unlock it? cheers in advance!!

Hi there no i havent had any luck in unlocking the phone the i have been in touch with the ppl that sent me the unlock code and they say that the codes provided are 100% genuine so im all out of ideas.

If the phone is no longer under contract (the old owner finished out the contract, or the phone was bought full price, or whatever) they are pretty helpful with unlocking them, at least in the USA.
agreed. call the carrier and if your nice and have been with the carrier long enough they usually can help you out.
My Defy came from Argentina... No chances to get an unlock code... Does anyone know another way to unlock Defy? Actually mine is just like an IPod

Hi, I'm from Argentina and got a Defy, is yours from
"Personal" or "Claro" (Carrier) ?.
Mine was from "Personal" and I've unlocked it here in
Argentina with a store is sale the codes to unlock and since that, I can use it with my carrier (Movistar) without any problem
Mine is "persona"l... But I'm in Brazil... I've been trying unlock it about a mounth but with no sucess...

so it is illegal to carrier unlock any phones right now, i bought a one xl from ebay and forgot i need it unlock to use on tmobile. can i have someone outside of US to get the unlock code for me? will i get in the trouble this way too?

I would call the carrier first and request the unlock code explaining the situation. If they won't give it to you, get it carrier unlocked.
Tmobile should give it to you though as their TOS claims they will if it is paid off and not in contract.

the one x is from att, and i check their requirement and it doesnt look good. if i buy the unlock code myself in the US, i will get in trouble?

I'm interested in this one too. I have one on AT&T that I would like to get an unlock code for. All of the supposed videos with links on youtube that I've tried with "unlock code generators" are full of crap.
Anyone ever find an unlock code for these? I have one sitting here that I bought on Ebay that was guaranteed to be able to be unlocked....LOL...Needless to say I did get my money back, but the phone is still sitting here in a box...

Yours that is sitting in the box, is it the US AT&T version? If so you might be able to contact AT&T and get the unlock code for free. www.att.com/deviceunlock would be the site you would use.

My cousin from the U.S(i live in Greece)gave me an alcatel one touch idol 3 phone as a gift,but it requires a code named network code,what is that?i asked him and he told me that he is still waiting for to company to send it to him,but it's been a very long time and still no reply,so is there any way to get that code(can it even be free?).

There is no free way and it is safe. I always use eBay to get unlock codes for my Samsung, Motorola, LG, and Alcatel phones.
I bought unlock codes for two idol3 6045i phones from eBay for about $15 CAD each. Codes worked perfectly and network unlocked both phones.

And usualy they give you unlock code so you can use it on other cariers networks after some time period (usualy 6 months). Or your Cousin shoud tell them, that he needs to go to europe and he want to use it there and maybe they give him the unlock code.
Second option is to buy unlock code from ebay, but its always a 50/50 that it will work. On ebay search for "alcatel idol3 unlock code" but to be more shure you should add the carrier name on which the phone is locked. The carrier name you can find out by the version of the model you have (we in Eourope have unlocked idol 3 5.5 with code 6045Y). In USA, they are named 6045I, 6045O, 6045B 6045K (or something like that).

I'm really not sure. When buying an unlock code from eBay, the unlocker needs the name of the company that issued to phone so the unlocker can look in the right place.
If it came from the USA, it may have come from Cricket: http://www.alcatelonetouch.us/alcatel-onetouch-idol-3-cricket
If it came from Cricket, just search for "Cricket Idol 3 unlock code" on eBay.

Not via manufacture unlock code but rather software unlock. My Note 8 is still being paid off so AT&T won't give me the unlock code and I'm headed to Germany next week. I'd rather not go the eBay route.
Don't know about the software unlock on this phone, but I got my unlock code from a vendor that I used multiple times for $25. Unlocked mine a couple of days ago.

I ended up using a guy off eBay, he seemed reputable and had his WhatsApp contact info in the eBay ad so that made it easier to reach out to him. Cost me $13.99 and my AT&T Note 8 is fully SIM unlocked.. problem is I tried to activate it on Sprint and since it apparently still has a balance on it they couldn't add it to inventory.. quite the pain in the ass.
Does AT&T unlock the phone for free after 14 days of ownership?
I had bought my s8 from Best Buy and completed the unlock form on the at&t site 15 days after purchase and got the unlock code within 2 days.
11 days to go for my Note 8, i will let you know
As far as I know, you have to pay off the phone first before they will unlock it. I unlocked my previous AT&T phone that way.

If it's an AT&T phone you can go on the att site and do the unlock after 14 days of ownership. At least if you paid the phone in full

Yeah, I was lucky enough to get my Note8 on September 12th. I put in my unlock request at around 10am today and got my unlock code at 1pm. So they were at least super quick doing it.
Here's a bit of a tip:
If you don't have another carrier sim to put in after you get your unlock code you can just dial this #7465625*638*# and it will ask you for the Network Code. Type in the digits AT&T gave you and it'll say unlocked once successfully entered.

i got the code now what? The instructions say contact manufacturer for additional questions. Its a ATT note 8 paid in full from samsung.

If you have a SIM card from another provider put in your phone and it will ask you for the unlock code.
If not, look at the thread just above, someone was explaining that you can do it by typing a combination of numbers on you phone dialer

Thanks for that info. I haven't had my note 8 for the 14 days but it is paid in full. ATT provided the code within the hour.
