Not via manufacture unlock code but rather software unlock. My Note 8 is still being paid off so AT&T won't give me the unlock code and I'm headed to Germany next week. I'd rather not go the eBay route.
Don't know about the software unlock on this phone, but I got my unlock code from a vendor that I used multiple times for $25. Unlocked mine a couple of days ago.

I ended up using a guy off eBay, he seemed reputable and had his WhatsApp contact info in the eBay ad so that made it easier to reach out to him. Cost me $13.99 and my AT&T Note 8 is fully SIM unlocked.. problem is I tried to activate it on Sprint and since it apparently still has a balance on it they couldn't add it to inventory.. quite the pain in the ass.
Does AT&T unlock the phone for free after 14 days of ownership?
I had bought my s8 from Best Buy and completed the unlock form on the at&t site 15 days after purchase and got the unlock code within 2 days.
11 days to go for my Note 8, i will let you know
As far as I know, you have to pay off the phone first before they will unlock it. I unlocked my previous AT&T phone that way.

Yeah, I was lucky enough to get my Note8 on September 12th. I put in my unlock request at around 10am today and got my unlock code at 1pm. So they were at least super quick doing it.
Here's a bit of a tip:
If you don't have another carrier sim to put in after you get your unlock code you can just dial this #7465625*638*# and it will ask you for the Network Code. Type in the digits AT&T gave you and it'll say unlocked once successfully entered.

If you have a SIM card from another provider put in your phone and it will ask you for the unlock code.
If not, look at the thread just above, someone was explaining that you can do it by typing a combination of numbers on you phone dialer

I have unlocked several phones through T-Mobile customer service. I simply tell them I am travelling oversees and need to use a GSM sim card from an oversees provider. Usually I would receive a response within a few days, but have seen 24 hour turnaround times before. The official name for the code is "subsidy unlock code" -at least at ATT they called it that. I think the only limitation is that TMOUS will only unlock 1 phone within a 90 day period per phone line or something like that. Good luck.
I tried to get an HTC One S code from Cellunlocker.net and it initially came back "not found" as they said its too new so try back a week later. I waited a week and a half and the code came back and it worked. Film it and you can get it for free sometimes!

Usually tell them you are traveling abroad and need it unlocked to use another sim card while you are over there. I have had several phones unlocked that way.
I have also just said "I need my phone unlocked for personal reasons" and generally they do not follow up with a why.
Telus is now offering the Blue/gray. Not sure if that would be any easier though.

Yeah, I work for T-Mobile in tech care and we don't care what the reason is really. You can do it for any reason at all as long as your account is eligible. I don't remember all the requirements but the major ones are these:
active account for at least 40 days (might be 45)
not delinquent, nothing past due on your account
not received another subsidy unlock code in the last 90 days for that phone line
There are other things they will check also, but those are the major points we look at. It's real easy though, we just ask for your IMEI and and email address and fill out an electronic form that goes to a department that gets sim unlock codes from the manufacturers. You will usually get an email with unlock code and instructions within 48 hours.

Yes there is a software hack for unlocking these phones but non of the developers have made it public like they did it for Other phones is Galaxy S series. These software hacks are available as paid solution through some repair box (S-box for e.g) or some via websites on per unlock credit basis.

Unlock your Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket Instantly
I've notice that there are free apps in the Market that are able to unlock some versions of the Samsung Galaxy S series. Unfortunately after much research I forced to the conclusion that the Skyrocket is not one of the supported devices by those free apps.
Shopping around for an IMEI unlock code yielded nothing less than US$24.50. That was until I turned to Ebay. There are several solutions offered there but the one that appealed at an unbeatable price and 100% success rate was from the seller "aprivate".
Your phone will be unlocked via USB with a few clicks of the mouse Instantly. Absolutely seamless service.
Head on over to ebay and search for the seller aprivate or check out their website UnlockClient.com Unlock solutions are NOT limited to the Skyrocket but you can get all your models unlocked their instantly too.
They have great offers which despite my extreme satisfaction is another reason that I am taking the time out to write this review.

Third party unlocking was made illegal in the us about 2 weeks or so ago..
Omg.
I am never going to use that phone in this country ever not even going to start the phone on any US carriers. After unlocking, I am sending it to my mom and she stays out of US.

Im not sure. If the phone was originally bought and sold in the us, then probably not, unless the original carrier were to unlock it. Was just mentioning that perhaps you had not gotten a reply from that site because they're figuring out their legal status, as well as if they can fulfill your order or must refund you.

Wrong. I asked via the unlock portal and received the unlock code in about 8 hours.
Free unlock from AT&T
I was also able to (after spending some time on hold) get an unlock code directly from AT&T. I do have an AT&T account, have been with them for a long time, and do NOT have a contract. I also bought the phone used.
This won't unlock your phone, but you can use it on Cricket or H2O Wireless - even though it's still locked to AT&T - for a LOT less money. $27.00 per month for H2O and $35.00 per month with Cricket - if you use the auto pay option. HTH.
Just wondering if anyone knew how long, after purchasing their phone, does the "IMEI database" get updated? I've been trying for about 3 weeks since the day I bought my One X to get it unlocked only to be told my code is unavailable.
I think it's dependent on your carrier, some carriers won't let you unlock your bootloader ala AT&T... I'm sure there are others but that seems to be the most popular
Which is why there's SuperCID tool

He's talking about SIM unlock, not bootloader unlock.
As for the official SIM unlock for this phone, as far as I know, it can take up to 6 months before AT&T will allow you to unlock your phone, especially for a flagship phone like the HOX. I would search around and see if there are any cheap, pay-for SIM unlock solutions in the meantime.

Per AT&T policy and a class action settlement, they will not provide a SIM unlock code for 10 months after a phone's release. You also need to be an account holder in good standing for at least 90 days.
If the OP is an AT&T customer, best bet is to use a paid unlock service. Folks on here have gotten the code from eBay and other online places for as low as $4.
Thanks to all who replied...I've called AT&T and they say they wont provide the unlock until November. I've tried EBay, cellunlocker, and countless others with all saying my code was not found. I read somewhere on here that it takes about a month for this so called "database" to get updated. Just wondering if there's any truth to that.
I've always gotten mine for free from AT&T directly, but never paid attention to how long into my ownership though. My question is how are the paid services guys doing it, and why hasn't an individual or group here (lots of collective brainpower) reverse engineered the process and make a killing at half the cost?
I bought my phone July 1, and AT&T told me that they would not unlock it until December. My account has been in good standing for years, but they just won't do it. If you look on their support site, they claim that if the phone is new and exclusive that they won't unlock it for up to 10 months.
I wasn't able to get my Skyrocket unlocked from them either. Way easier to just put out a couple extra dollars and get the code online. Luckily the first eBay unlocker I tried had the code and it only cost me $2.

Hello everyone
Please forgive my lack of knowledge on this subject.
I have a sim-locked LG H830 T-mo and managed to get an unlock code, but I can't get the sim-unlock screen, I've read somewhere that it's not possible to access that menu on new T-MO phones, the unlock app just tells me that my device can't be unlocked, unfortunately I'm overseas and bought the phone on Ebay that was supposed to be unlocked, now because I'm a world away sending it back would be my last resource, so I guess my question is, If I root and Install TWRP Recovery will I be able to reach the sim unlock screen?
BTW, IMEI is clear
Thanks in advance
I'd also like to know the answer to this question. T-mobile won't unlock mine for me as I was a prepaid customer and apparently this "device unlock" app through t-mobile is the only way to unlock it. If rooting the phone someone makes this easier I'd like to know so I can get on it...

I think I had to do the $40 prepaid plan for two months. You can unlock after 40 days but don't get reimbursed for half months so I just used it the full two months on there prepaid before switching. Also, did you buy the phone directly from T-Mobile or a 3rd party? Only reason I ask is if you bought it from a 3rd party make sure imei is clear and phone was actually fully paid for or it still won't unlock.

Okay then using prepaid for 40 days should allow you to unlock then.
I purchased an unlock through ebay. Apparently some people have access to the database that tmobile uses to determine if the phones should be unlocked or not and will add you phone to the unlocked list. I unlocked mine last Aug. and have used it on a couple different carriers since. I can try to find the name of the seller and can send it to you if you PM me. I was really happy with them and have used them for a couple different phones.

Sorry bro, he closed that thread a while back. It was legit, he unlocked both of mine. Keep a look out to see if he will do it again. Otherwise you may have to call TMO and persuade them to help or tweet the help desk. Happy modding!
So maybe I can give some help with information. T-Mobile will not allow you to seamlessly network unlock without a full payoff. You can typically contact T-Mobile's Twitter and get them to unlock it if you have a specific reason. According to someone I know directly in their support, they will typically unlock with minimal hassle if you have at least three device payments. However, you can typically get an unlock earlier if you give them a valid reason. A lot of people reported network issues with an OTA. Referencing this, and informing them that a bootloader unlock is necessary for repair, they unlocked mine with literally a single payment on file. It took a bit of persistence (and even referencing the XDA thread), but they did unlock it for me. Give it a shot. Worst they can say is no.

Which thread is it in I'm having trouble finding it.
I just called T-Mobile and they approved the unlock for my OP8 (purchased in August 2020). My reasoning was T-Mobile is paying half of the phone (50% off deal) and told them I will be paying my half early (around $230 left). So they said yes to unlock my phone. Give it a try.
What if you buy a T-Mobile locked 8 on ebay? I thought you could still unlock bootloader with msm, am I screwed?

Yeah but I bought the phone off of eBay so I don't think they will unlock. I am thinking of paying for an unlock service that costs around $80-$100 (I don't know of any legitimate ones) or returning the phone and buying the n10 5g. The only thing preventing me from getting the n10 5g is the lcd screen, that is a major issue for me.

I got my TMo OP8 off Swappa and just requested the unlock code from the OnePlus website the day it arrived. It took 7 days literally to the minute to get my unlock code, which I hear is the norm.
But also note that we're all talking about 2 different things: a bootloader unlock (which is what I did) and a carrier unlock (which is what OP was after, I believe).

when i checked the oneplus website for bootloader unlock it required an unlock code from tmobile. can you link me to the page where i can request the bootloader unlock?
edit: I am an idiot, disregard that.
Can you help me with getting the unlock token? what exact commands did you use to get unlock code? I followed the oneplus guide but get the response-
"C:\platform-tools>fastboot.exe oem get_unlock_code
FAILED (remote: 'Please enable OEM unlocking in Settings first')
fastboot: error: Command failed"
my understanding is that you need to sim unlock before you can oem unlock.

Worst they can say is no.

this is what i had the ebay seller i got my phone from do, and apparently they are going to unlock tonight; the rep said the phone needs to be used for at least 48hrs on tmo network, but preferably 40 days before unlocking. It seems they have an official policy on carrier unlocking and then another policy which is only used on twitter; all very confusing. my concern now is that custom roms will not work correctly on tmo op8t, as verizon owner have reported crdroid not working for them.
Ok mobdeep is back in the game of unlocking TMO phones. Head to his thread and read the info. Happy modding!
So I have an unlocked carrier t-mobile device and I want an unlocked bootloader. Who do I need to contact to get the 7 days rolling? Thanks

If you guys are wanting to root your Tmobile/Sprint phone here is the guide, i unlocked my phone, unlocked my bootloader & rooted it. To get token it took exactly a week. Here are the guides: Android 11 how to root T-MOBILE OP8 5G
TIP: Go into Settings>Wifi&Network>SIM&Network:> Network Unlock. This should get your phone unlocked which is the first step. Then head over to unlock token - OnePlus (United States) and apply to get your token, which took me 1 week exactly. Here is also a tool incase you brick your phone: Unbrick tool to restore your device to OxygenOS
