Why XDA is shrinking size - General Topics

The devs are rude to people and people are rude to devs! Simple as that! Trying to learn how to put a file back together, but no, i'm told it's a secret. Kinda crappy! So that's why this community is increasingly shrinking.

not true. some people are rude to devs and some devs are rude to people. not as many as you think. and, btw, just so you know. many devs, not all, are kids or other people just learning. there are real devs here to, just not as much as you think.

I agree to a degree. Getting help is hard sometimes. It's not a very friendly place.
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

There may be a ratio dev/users of something like 1/1000
And users sometimes are REALLY lazy and ask same questions again and again, so naturally devs can be quite annoyed.

its only hard when people refuse to put the effort in themselves.
I used to get short with people in my rom threads for asking the same question ad-nauseum which is dealt with in the first post.
At the end of the day, this is a developer forum, not a support forum...
(This wasn't meant to be a harsh post directed at you)

I understand what you're saying. But this is a forum you know? I'm assuming that's why there is a General Discussion forum to address things. In the end no one has any obligation to help out anyone.

i like go to my dev sub-forum and request for default app apk files. I think that's good. No need to merge.

Why wouldn't you be pro active and extract the apks you need from a ROM yourself? This is a classic example..

It seems the version of Flash 10.1 on the leaked 2.2 ROM is an older version than what's on the Market but the Market doesn't show Flash. Can someone please post the APK for the current Flash 10.1 that's on the Android Market?
Appreciate it.
UPDATE: Never mind, i checked the version - 10.1.72.7 and it appears that's the same as beta 3 (latest)

Are you serious? This site issues 3 day suspensions for someone accidentily posting a question in the wrong area LOL, you have got to be kidding me. Get off your high horse and just tell me people and if you want them to post in different areas. I can see the need to keep the threads clean and most will adhere to what is needed, but honestly threats are uncalled for unless it is consistently the same person doing it!
Just my opinion and i know you could prob care less and if you want ban me thats cool, there 1000's of site i can get this info off of.

Can we get this thread back on track. Personally, i both agree and disagree with issueing 3 day bans, but its not the point. I hate questions that belong in general and are posted in the dev section, but tjat is not the point.
This thread is about friggin flash light for petes sakes. It is not a debate on if three day bans are called for or not.
And if this thread is useless, the mods should delete it.

Moderation is a fundamental issue that needs to be addressed before these forums can again be considered effective resources for serious development efforts.

You know what's even more annoying than the OP posting this thread in the wrong forum? Thanks for the help guys.

Damn this forum is tough, man. Lots of geniuses in here making my Incredible better, but I tell you what I'm scared ****less to ask any question for fear of being burnt to a crisp or banned.

Why is this site so rude....

I can't stand to read this site these days. Everytime there's a post some self important ass has to jump and tell the person posting just how stupid they are for making the post. If you xda experts don't want to the rest if us here then lock it down. It would be no great loss. There's nothing here that can't be found in 100 other places.
For some reason this site seems to encourage rude moderators that love to trash people especially if someone failed to find existing threads using the terrible search tools provided. Maybe xda just can't carry the weight created by its success. One thing is sure and that is if it doesn't change a lot of people with go elsewhere....

Just take it with a grain of salt man...there are douches everywhere but I mean without the developers we wouldn't we able to accomplish much, if anything. And most of the other forums I've seen directly get their info or sources from XDA. Its ok, hug time?
Thanks for the hug... It's not about me I can hold my own and enjoy giving it back. What bothers me is when someone clearly struggling to post and is asking for hlep (And English may not even be their language) then one of these dicks trashes them. I just looked at one where a guy asked how to find a specific item, he got an answer that said check the xxxxx forum and we are not your slave so don't expect us to do it for you. Who talks like that and why aren't they stomped on for acting that way. He gave an answer then added the boot. I see that everywhere here.
The people who respond here do it for their own reasons. It's nice when people help and I have found some helpful threads. Still when I see stuff like the one above I start to think there are people here who get off on acting that way. Being a developer doesn't mean doing sick stuff is OK.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Yeah I agree but I mean some people are gonna be douches regardless of the question asked. I'm also inclined to think there are more decent people on XDA that like helping people as opposed to bashing them so even if the douche answers first, doesnt mean he represents XDA...
and this is why people lurk...
...or ... why i have lurked for so long
but now i just dont care...
so.... here goes nothing
There should be a Douche button, just like a Thanks button.

While I don't agree with people being rude please understand that this is a developers site. Not a tech support site, not a rom flashing site, and not a cool place to be site. It was made by developers for developers. And sometimes people can get rude. That is what the report button is for.
I like this site, and the way I see it,
They are sick of repeat posts, it's like people aren't bothering even looking anymore for what they need, they just post... As I have made that mistake a few times... That said i my self use the Site for my personal use or for the work I do but I ALWAYS give credit where it counts and is a great site for this Canadian to learn the ways of the DROID...
Also i mean maybe some devs like to poke fun, maybe they are tired of people taking time away from thier great works... Who knows, I talk to, a few decent people on here and have learnt alot and intended on learning more when my desktop is back up and running...

i agree, xda really needs a douchee button. im also new here, but i been using the forums for a while, just rencently registered and i have gotten all the info i need, so basicly yes, the douches are somewhat right, but they should just say it a little more politely
I just saying that there is no excuse for treating posters badly. I've been a registered user for more than a year but I find myself coming here less and less because I can find as good or better info on other sites and most don't have the xda attitude.
I want to be clear that most people don't act this way and that plenty of nice helpful people respond here every day. The point I'm making is that there are a few that need to be cleaned up. I hadn't thought of the report button but in the future I will use it freely. Maybe that will get the attention of the powers that be.
It would be interesting to start a thread on the xda **** of the day. People could cut and paste insulting behavior into the thread including the name of the poster. Every day/week members could vote. I bet it would dry up fast....

Really, Really???
Makes me laugh when people chant that mantra of "this is a developers site. Not a tech support site, not a rom flashing site......". maybe when the site was made 5,6 years ago it was a developers site. But things grow and evolve as is in the human nature. XDA has evolved into more than just a Dev site, its a site for development, education and learning.
It amuses me when people try to alienate the devs from the users. Don't give excuses for rude or egotistical people, if someone is in doubt, use your knowledge to help him or shut up. afterall, the great devs of today all learnt from scratch. Nobody was born with code in their brain from the womb (except chuck norris ). Because the way this site is going its going to drive users away from its fold.
And when you succeed in alienating the noobs, and xda becomes a dev-only site, who will test the bugs in the developers' software? how will developed apps get publicity? I know some devs who've made alot of money from donations for their software; heck, this site's servers are supported by donations from users.
XDA is a leader in development and mobile collaboration and we've seen the amount of clout and influence XDA has, the mobile companies HTC,Samsung, motorola all hear the voice of XDA (as evidenced by htc's bootloader unlocking, htc dev, making motorola answer for locking bootloaders) but dont think that XDA will have such influence if all of the over 4 million users are gone and like 1000 developers ( if they are even that many) remain.
Also I'm not excusing some very stupid people who ask the wrong questions, and don't follow rules.for example, I only registered here last year but I've followed this site for 3 years. If I had a problem, I also come here to search and I always got my answer. I only had to register when I got the lenovo thinkpad, which didn't have any active development forum so I could post a question. So I guess I'm one of those who likes to search before posting.
The summary of everything I just said is help people who are truly in need of it, (not the silly ones) and XDA isn't a dev only site.

Well I disagree on this one point, if they don't take the time to try and look it up and find it on their own it does give you the right to be a little rude, because that's pretty rude of them, expecting you to take time out of your day to give them an answer when they don't take any of their own time to even try..but, of course, I'm not in favor of going crazy on them..just enough let them know that's unacceptable
I don't like rude people too, and I met quite a few here...
I do am agree thus, that newcomers should look VERY well into the proper thread and all over XDA site.
I like to help when I can and if I can, but I have seen more and more often people asking simple questions like:
"someone can show me some guide?" or " does an xperia thread exist?"
Well don't need help really for this question, is just enough to search..
I guess developers or user generally can get tired of this.
However I am agree that some users normally answer by jokes or in a rude way, although people like this could be everywhere..
Sometimes you have to be rude to let people know they should google first before they post a question

I think most users dont consider themselves entitled or expect any helpful posts in regards to their questions, I'm sure they're just hoping someone can point them into the right direction. I've searched and gathered everything I needed to know myself but its not like I ever expected another user to help me. I figure if users want to help other users, awesome, but don't give attitude when doing so.

I understand but to a point, there's no need to curse at someone and be rude just because he asked a question even if its been asked before a 1000 times, if you don't like the question he asked then don't answer it, I see that a lot on here, noob ask a question then gets an answer "why do you ask so many questions?" I thought to myself why does it matter to you its a q&a forum, just skip over the post or answer the question with some respect without rude remarks

Its a little tough here on xda but its true that you need to try it out yourself and see what the difference is...personally between the 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 leaks we have, I noticed that 4.0.4 seems to be a lot smoother for me and battery drain seems a little better but I'm going to have to wait for a complete power cycle before I can confirm this

Not just in reply to this but the whole thing. I found this post looking for, well an answer the question that was initially asked. And very quickly pressed the back button on the browser and regoogled. I think the point is XDA is for a higher calibre level of experience and technical understanding and not for your day to day stuff you could read in a geek magazine, or Android Forums for example. I disagree, the community itself was built on the backs of do it yourselfers who spent a lot of time and effort to learn and share development, sources, and ideas. The mentality of xda has changed from that of the do it yourselfer spitballing ideas on better code implementation or how to get things working to that of a help desk where it's no longer a community striving to improve and learn they just want things now. Most are content never knowing the effort involved in compiling a ROM or how to modify an apk, hell most can't even use adb to capture logs. The issue here is most certainly complacency amongst newer members. The mentality needs to change in order to see improvement, that's why you see these old timers so grumpy because honestly it's ridiculous the amount of easily searchable questions run through xda.
Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
I've been thinking maybe a sister site is needed. XDAusers sounds about right. Send all the "I want it now and I won't search" types over that way. Unfortunately, it's not that simple. Some will help with devving, some will cry like a two year old when they get a bootloop. It takes all kinds. One thing I have noticed though. Those that can search and read are almost never heard from. Why? Because they search and read. A catch-22 at its finest.

[Apology] Bring the Hox Community Together

This community here has been strong, informative and helpful to many Hox users. IMO, it has also been used to flame, disrespect, and challenge personal opinions in several threads. I myself have fallen into this pit. I just wanted everyone to read a thread posted in the EVO LTE forums from a person whom not only fell into this pit himself, but recognized it and publically corrected himself to better bring back his community. Im not implying anything against the Hox community, but just hope it can serve as an example, that we stand stronger united and can/will accomplish much more as individual minds coming together. Not individuals thinking a mind. Please click the link below, to read how this xda member noted his closed mindness, and forfeited it for the good of his community.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29136185
With this said, there are great feats still to be accomplished for the Hox devices. Let's all put our 2 cents in where we can, put away the other 98, and make these feats into accomplishments!!

You also have to understand the flip side of the coin. People come here and start threads to ask the same basic questions that people have answered 500 times already. Questions that would have been easily answered in 10 seconds had they done a search first. Its frustrating.
Yes, there are no stupid questions. Yes we were all noobs at one point. Part of learning is figuring basic out things yourself by doing some research though.

Agreed 100%. There are a million threads that could have been avoided simply by SEARCHING. If you can navigate to XDA using your browser, you have the skills necessary to use the search function. People are just lazy and don't want to do any reading, they'd rather someone just respond with an answer. Super annoying, my .02.

This. It is painfully evident when people don't search even though they say they do when and that's when I'll come in with a snarky post. You can't tell me you searched for the method to root 1.85 when there is a STICKY with the procedure in development, and 4 other threads on the first two pages of Q+A asking the same question, with people providing answers. Sorry, but I don't buy it. If you want me to put forth some effort into helping you, you must put forth the effort to help yourself first.
That all said, if it shows that you did do some research but still need some clarification on a few things, you betcha I will be willing to help to the best of my ability. I may be an asshole sometimes, but I am actually a really nice guy and I do enjoy helping people out. Just don't start our e-relationship on a lie ("I searched, I swear!") and we'll get along famously.
Training noobs, snarky fun posts, they help teach and make xda a fun place. Mostly, I'm referring to the heated debates, and hateful posts that have crippled some of our unreplacable threads and formed hatefulness between members. By all means, I love when an opportunity arises for me to get a few people to laugh, please, keep them coming when you see fit

I agree that there are times where a lot of us get really upset and lose our cool. And that we should try to keep that to a minimum.
But this isn't exactly a forum for extremely basic questions at the same time, even though we all have some from time to time, there are tons of other forums like that though. And some people are obviously trolling too ("HTC done it wrong" guy, lol....)
The only thing that ticks me off about this community are the "should I get a galaxy s3" threads. No one cares. This is an enthusiast forum for the HOX. If you want to talk gs3 go over there.
If this was a BMW enthusiast forum you would be flamed to hell if you wrote a topic like "should I switch to a mustang?".

XDA was a great place even when I joined during the GS1 era. However, it slowly turned into turned to crap with the success Android garnered though. Aside from the flame bait or post-purchase rationalization threads, the general user of this forum feels the developers OWE it to the users to make their devices better, for free. Not even joking. There were some people who expressed that in their posts in the Nexus S forums. Then there are the people who don't even bother to read instructions or stickies and when they brick their device they blame the developers. I like to help people as much as the next guy once being a noob myself, but it ain't fun when I answer the same question I know I answered last week.
Why don't we create a thread specifically for noobs, beginners in android, people who came from iphone and people that are lost in what to do..and put it in Dev thread..entitled "Lost,Confused and Dont know what to Do"..since I think everyone would go to the Dev Thread first before reading the General and Q&A thread..something like Help Support..where anybody can help...

Honestly I think its a great idea, won't stop everyone from posting in the wrong place but we could direct them to that thread. I also think that thread, if created should have a resource bible as well.... great idea!!

Yes..thats what im thinking too..i myself did go to the Dev thread when i had my first Android Galaxy Spica..never bothered to look in the Q&A or General Section..and like most newbies also had been kicked and slap with rude words from other members..
So Mods reading this..please consider sumthing like this..it would be beneficial to the whole community..again..thanks for all the talent in this community.

Not going to help the numerous people who don't search, don't read, and don't even look at the thread titles before posting their problems.

But a link to the helpful thread could be provided and the thread the noob started could be closed. I'm in support of it.

Agreed. plus we do have quite a few comprehensive noobs guides already in place, but you need to be willing to read...
How many times do you see a question asked that was answered just a few posts prior within the same thread.
I applaud the vast majority of devs we have here for their patience for not getting pissed off when their thread gets completely derailed...
I'm by no means an expert but I do a lot of reading and I learn a lot of things, for the vast majority it's all here...
Just read...

My imei is just fine. Thanks

ExFat support beyond Touchwiz?

I've been running Vincom's Superlite Official JB for a couple of months because I've found the need to play some 5GB files on my SD. I know the recoveries now support ExFat on our phone, so is this code that can be added in to the other roms (AOSP, AOKP, CM, etc.) as well? I miss the flexibility, speed, and battery of the others even though Sammy and Vincom do a good job with the Touchwiz integration.
Why is this in the dev section you are asking a question and are not providing an original work someone please report.

Read forum rules before posting
Questions go in Q&A
Dev section is sacred ground
Thread moved

Really? I didn't read the forum rule? I've only been a member since 2006. This board has a rep for being a bunch of a-holes because of these types of policies. It's not like I asked "what is touchwiz" or "how do I reboot into recovery". It's this kind of thing that keeps us from getting even better feature sets and keeps everything so fractured because there are 6000 ROMs that are 90% "there". I've posted plenty of help in the past, though I'm no dev, but I'm done. I'd love to hear someone clearly explain to me how this is a "Q&A" question more than it is a dev question. Now that you've moved it none of this will get any attention anyway so ban me if you like, I can have these conversations elsewhere and still get what I need.
P.S. FWIW my original reply had more about what I really think about crybabies like the original "thread reporter", but at least Kenny was nice enough to PM why he made the move as well, even though I disagree with it. If anyone wants an uncensored response, and my account isn't banned, PM me and I'll gladly share my thoughts about this BS.

You act like you understand the rules yet you decide they are arbitrary. Dev section is for development purposes only as in actually providing work, not some kid who wants to ask a question. Its pretty obvious why it was moved there is no good reason to disagree with it so if you must go elsewhere so be it.

I'm the "thread reporter". It was in the wrong place. I reported it. I gave you the benefit of the doubt and figured it was a mistake. I also tried to save you from the "wrong place" posts. Had I known you where actually just an idiot I wouldn't have done it. People like you are the problem with XDA. Don't try to turn the tables. Respect the rules or leave.
Looks like there's no reason it can't be done with fuse. Someone has a flashable zip for the s3 and cm10.1. I don't see any kernel modules in the zip so you might be able to use it on the skyrocket.

You've spawned at least 3 additional posts so far so bad strategy. And yeah, crybaby.

Yeah, that's a good thread. Seems quite do-able, just guess few people care because they haven't yet started dealing with large files.

No its a legitimate question that has nothing to do with what the dev section is for maybe you should learn to read and go back over the rules.

Says the 3 month member. I'm done, rookie. Respond away, but lart2150 offered a good thread, it's clearly a good question even if you're too stupid to realize it, and it's clearly not going to get any attention because of stupidity like this. I get that's how it is, no sense in fighting it. Just wanted to get the truth out there, I've said my peace, so flame away. Being around for 7 years (well, the last 3-4 here anyway) has taught me that douches like you must be heard if nothing else. So have at it.

Only 6 thanks in 7 years dude! You are useless anyways, goodbye. You can't even figure out that questions go in the Q and A section. What a joke.
