hey guys when you decide to lock a thread, how about a heads up as to why?
Too often threads get locked and no explanation is given.

It seems idiodic that there is a new thread every day "OmG FroYo TomMorroW, according to this guy I talked to"
I wonder if it would be more effective to lock each of the threads immediately, or just leave one and hope that those guys that would normally post those threads would read it first and relent

I completely agree with this. while it may seem annoying for some members especially the newer ones there are a couple of dozen "omg I talked to att/samsung and now have the inside scoop" as well as the ever annoying which rom is better post. These threads get to be bother some fast

I think this topic would have been addressed if it was PM'd to the mods, instead of making just another thread to clutter up the board.
Depending on the mod, they actually do let you know why the thread has been closed. I know Zelendel does that for a fact.

Hey guys I just thought I would stop in an say my part. If I close a thread and do not post in it then I am sorry if I thought that the reason is plain, I close threads if the question is answered in the thread and is no longer needed, If it has been talked about over and over. Lets leave the dead horse alone ok Example is one of my favs "where is gingerbread", "Best Rom", " I refuse to search for what I am looking for". These threads will be closed on sight.
We all know the rules and one of them is search before opening a new thread.

Ok I will clean up the threads over the next few days. Any threads that are not needed will be deleted and if anyone posted in those threads then your post count will be altered as the posts are deleted.

Can you set some ground rules for acceptable threads? I know we have read before posting, but maybe if it was laid out what was acceptable and what was not, then we would have something to point at and say you made a boo boo.
Maybe make an announcement and ask for ideas from the community as to what the rules for our forum should be. You being senior mod still have final say, but at least we have input. Just my thoughts.

Using his cfs kernel at 1.57ghz. Works at 1.8 but don't wanna kill my battery that fast

how is it that you still keep posting threads that belong in general in the dev forums? you have been told this is the wrong place for topics like this in numerous other threads and yet still you persist in behaving as though the rules do not apply to you.

I agree that this belongs in the general forums, but lighten up bro. Lol its not the end of the world. Obviously a few people answered his question so not everyone has there panties in a bunch. Try to stay off that high horse cuz it really makes you sound like a big nerd. Just say it nicely.

The first time it happens might not warrant such an aggressive response but PURPOSEFUL and REPEAT disregard of forum rules, even minor ones, is obviously a touchy subject and really shouldn't be taken lightly. I'm going to side with fhornmikey on this one.
He doesn't sound like a big nerd but someone who just wants others to follow the rules (not an unreasonable request especially considering the OP has been informed of them on more than one occasion).

Im not saying they shouldn't follow the rules, I definitely agree that they should. My point is that he really sounds silly trying to be so stern, I mean does he really think it will change anything? Cuz I would bet anything it won't. Some people just don't understand the rules or care.

It's nice to keep these forums somewhat organized. I agree no biggie if someone does it once. But if your repeatedly told to post in the right section and don't that's just stupid and disrespectful. That said, its a good topic and I'm digging ziggys latest cfs

You cant go wrong with any of these kernels. It all comes down to personal preferance and how hard you like to run your Bolt. I used drod's kernels pretty much since he dropped the first, his are good. Adrynalyne has alot of knowledge and I trust that his work well. Ziggy, I know nothing of him or his work, but Ive heard from people I trust he knows what hes doing and that his kernels for the bolt are top notch all-around.

it is SUPER annoying if people do it over and over again. I don't want the forums to be unwelcoming to newcomers who haven't been exposed to the way things are done.... but for repeat offenders I think they should be banned after the 2nd warning. at least temporarily.

I think it is. I come to the dev forum to look for new roms and kernels but I've seen a few questions form this guy.

I'm new here and to android and I try not to be obnoxious, I've use adrynalynes and now one of ziggy's and they are both awesome.

[Q] What's the natural "next phone"?

I saw the new Galaxy Nexus on the Google Store; how does this compare to the Skyrocket? I've just been thinking what phone I will want to upgrade to next. Should I wait for the Galaxy S3? I'm bad at keeping up with phones and was just wondering what the natural next upgrade from a Skyrocket will be. I've found I don't particularly like the large size of the phone, it's low resolution, and especially the Samsung bloatware (I'm using a Custom ROM so I don't have to worry about it anymore but I still don't like it being on there to begin with).

Perhaps you could join this conversation in one of the 2-3 already existing threads, instead of everyone making new ones every 10 minutes.

As a new user the best advice I can give u is to search before posting anything new in a thread, whether it be for discussions purposes, or posing a question. Searching first is rule 1 of xda, which u agreed to when u signed up

I know to search, I read the rules. I didn't know what to search for because my question is a bit more tailored. It's not just Galaxy Nexus vs. Skyrocket. But anyways... yeah...

Look, I am Kind of in the middle here. It does piss me off big time when people do this, but I understand. Do you remember the **** storm that came when we had the first ICS leak? there were like 50 posts ad 100s in one topic repeating things.
My point is that sometimes people do just get excited and forget to read. I do get mad, but I have some forgiveness if they admit their wrongness and delete it.
I know XDA is about the developers, but none of us started that way. Most of us learned from this forum, we started as n00bs. I remember the first time I softbricked my phone, and freaked out. I spent hours researching how to get it back. Now I could do it in my sleep (and sort of have).
I certainly am not at your level yet, but I do know what I am doing a lot more than I did 709 posts and 225 thanks ago. I originally thought to myself "how am I ever going to get 10 posts" when I was trying to post in the dev section.
Let people know when they are being dumb, but have some forgiveness as long as they realize it and fix it.

Sorry for posting this, I usually just check the Development section. I thought it was noteworthy, would be happy to delete this to clean up the Development section if someone can tell me how. I have been a XDA member for a long time but I rarely post, so I am not sure how to delete the thread if it is even possible. Hopefully this does mean good news for us Atrix 2 owners if Motorola decides to start unlocking program like HTC.

Exactly! Why banish the noob who is trying to learn. Or just does not know. The whole point to this website is a community of devs, phone enthusiasts, and geeks.
I actually find it quite rude. Maybe if this post was fake. Or maybe it linked you to a rick roll ....whatever then I would laugh and be annoyed.
All I'm saying is that this person was trying to help. They posted something of value that some of us had no knowledge of.

Actually an unlocked boot loader has a fair amount of something to do with the dev section but hey what do I know. I'm just the guy tired of people being dicks and pricks to people who screw up.

My point is instead of insulting the guy by calling him blind, he could have been decent and simply stated it had been posted and just say please check.
Its a common theme here. As soon as someone has their own rom they tend to become raging pricks and think they own the dev section. I could be just seeing things one way but its seems to be how things have been lately.
Now if the mods feel I should be banned for calling people out on being less than nice, oh well. There are worse things in the world than being kicked off a forum for 24 hours. I'd say being rude to a guy trying to be helpful would be one but u digress.

A common theme in here is that people don't read before posting. We are cluttered with the same bootloader, cm9 and ics posts on a daily basis.

I won't argue that. Its annoying to say the least, but we shouldn't expect everyone to magically follow the rules and be rude to people. People can disagree and hate me all they want, but being rude and callous has never once helped a situation.

Man...even just the browser. Google. Bing that ****, whatever. Way easier anyway right? I'm sure that's how most of us started reading up on androids and rooting. Rules are given to you in the begining to read for a reason. I know most people don't read that cuz they think it's bull**** or whatever. But it is what it is...rules are rules. Just like laws...sure you can break em n get away with it here n there or minor infractions. But get the wrong Mod up in here n you can kiss your ass goodbye on a lil vacation. I know this from expeirence in other Forums. It's cool to give out news but do it in the right spot, or just reply to a thread already made. Posting a new thread should be a last resort if you cannot find your topic anywhere! Whatever, dude made a mistake. First reply could've been a little more humble about it and informative I guess. And OP should have searched before posting. Let's delete and move on...Don't make em walk the plank...we all family here right? Hahahaha.

In a way you right that an unlocked bootloader should have something to do with dev work, but again the rules state that ONLY your own work goes into the dev section. Not Q&A or posts that have some information about an unlocked bootloader, or even a ROM from another phone you want a dev to port. All of those things belong in the General section.
The reason I get frustrated is because I give my time and effort and a whole lot of my non-working time, freely I might add, to dev work here on XDA, so when there is little respect shown to the rules, that also shows little respect to the developers in here. I will have to say that your post was way worse than the OPs mistake, because you also showed little respect for the developers on here. and your last post showed even less respect for our devs in here.
And yes I will totally admit that the guy calling the OP blind was uncalled for, but again by doing what you have done shows little respect to our dev community and that makes me not want to read your posts or help you out if you get in a bind.

Jim for the record you are one of the few that I actually like. That said you are doing exactly what I was talking about. You don't need to pat yourself on the back or tell us who you are and what you do. We know already. We've all been here long enough to know your contributions.
Again people can hate me, but I have to speak my mind when I have something to say. Its who I am. You can call it as you see it just as I did with the first response.
If anyone feels I don't contribute, so be it. If they don't want to help me, so be it. I'm a big boy and can manage to figure it out. I'm still going to speak my mind. I wouldn't begrudge anyone for doing it as long as they dont insult people...well at least insult them with a little class.

I might have been harsh but this forum is getting bloated everyday by dupe posts n irrelevant questions that have already been answered N number of times.And for a person posting n following bootloader news and checking atrix2 section for development it aint that hard to check other and new posts.How many times has everyone said here that please look before you repost please use search..Had OP done a little search on the topic he would have got the result.Forget about that even while making a new thread if your topic name is same XDA throws up search result, Still people go on making same topic threads again for what ? just to gain posts ? This is not the way someone behaves on forum.Forums have rules and they are meant to be followed.But people don't and look at our forum its so much bloated had everyone followed atleast one rule of searching or looking out there would have been loads of less threads.Also do people really think that posting a topic 1-2 days after its originally posted somewhere is really smart ? Come on this is not your group of friends its INTERNET and it includes people over the world and people who are much smarter than me you or anyone.Accept it.So just give a thought you dont even have to do mathematics,simple logic says that someone would have already posted it,could have search just for sake of that..But again who cares some break rules some take the sides of those who break rules.Can't help and the post like what i made comes out of frustration and losing patience.

WOW that video is so old, it is not even funny. I remember when I first signed up on this site, the very first login that popped up before I could pull up the forum. I wonder if they still do that for all the n00bs when they first login.

ExFat support beyond Touchwiz?

I've been running Vincom's Superlite Official JB for a couple of months because I've found the need to play some 5GB files on my SD. I know the recoveries now support ExFat on our phone, so is this code that can be added in to the other roms (AOSP, AOKP, CM, etc.) as well? I miss the flexibility, speed, and battery of the others even though Sammy and Vincom do a good job with the Touchwiz integration.

Why is this in the dev section you are asking a question and are not providing an original work someone please report.

Really? I didn't read the forum rule? I've only been a member since 2006. This board has a rep for being a bunch of a-holes because of these types of policies. It's not like I asked "what is touchwiz" or "how do I reboot into recovery". It's this kind of thing that keeps us from getting even better feature sets and keeps everything so fractured because there are 6000 ROMs that are 90% "there". I've posted plenty of help in the past, though I'm no dev, but I'm done. I'd love to hear someone clearly explain to me how this is a "Q&A" question more than it is a dev question. Now that you've moved it none of this will get any attention anyway so ban me if you like, I can have these conversations elsewhere and still get what I need.
P.S. FWIW my original reply had more about what I really think about crybabies like the original "thread reporter", but at least Kenny was nice enough to PM why he made the move as well, even though I disagree with it. If anyone wants an uncensored response, and my account isn't banned, PM me and I'll gladly share my thoughts about this BS.

You act like you understand the rules yet you decide they are arbitrary. Dev section is for development purposes only as in actually providing work, not some kid who wants to ask a question. Its pretty obvious why it was moved there is no good reason to disagree with it so if you must go elsewhere so be it.

I'm the "thread reporter". It was in the wrong place. I reported it. I gave you the benefit of the doubt and figured it was a mistake. I also tried to save you from the "wrong place" posts. Had I known you where actually just an idiot I wouldn't have done it. People like you are the problem with XDA. Don't try to turn the tables. Respect the rules or leave.

Looks like there's no reason it can't be done with fuse. Someone has a flashable zip for the s3 and cm10.1. I don't see any kernel modules in the zip so you might be able to use it on the skyrocket.
