[HELP] Cannot access TWRP on Z5 E6653 - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I am a newbie to the Sony Androids however not new to ROMs, unlocking and such like having been using HTCs since the G1.
Following the great guides on here I have been able to backup my TA data, unlock my bootloader, and flash a custom kernel. However despite flashing the TWRP image I have been unable to access recovery on my device.
I have used both the adb reboot recovery method and the pressing volume down at the orange light on start method. In both instances the screen goes black, the LED flashes red a couple of times and then the device reboots again.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks,
t2t

from where you got the custom kernel ?
send me your KERNEL.sin* file of your E6653!
I will modify the kernel for u
*extract ftf** file using 7zip and kernel.sin file will be inside the extracted folder
**ftf file is STOCKROM of your device, can be obtained using Xperifirm within FLASHTOOL OR latest build could be downloaded from

[Q]Help: Can't change custom rom

Hi,
I am new to this site and fairly new to rooting and stuff and need assistance with my Sony Xperia S (LT26i). If i am not in the right pace for this please point me in the right direction. I have installed a custom rom and custom recovery which let me upgrade from 4.1.2 to 4.3 which was working fine then when I flashed a different custom rom after that to get 4.4.1 I lost access to my custom recovery. The main issue is that I need help with changing the custom rom I have installed, for some reason I can no longer boot into TWRP or CWM (using power + vol up), the phone simply boots normally and skips the whole process therefore I cannot flash anything. I have looked for hours over the net on how to get into recovery but could not find a solution.
I also assumed that when installing custom recovery and custom roms that you would need to be rooted but when I check with Root Checker it says that I am not. So any assistance would be great

Do you know of any other site where I can get the firmware from?, when I try and extract the file after I download it it's corrupted. I have tried multiple times with no luck.

Here is 4.0.4
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_d8uWGbkaetLThpYzEwZUh5aTg/edit
steps:
how to install the newest Android 4.0.4 for Sony XPERIA S LT26i
a) first of all, check your firmware version (if you already have the newest one, you do not need this tutorial)
b) download and install latest Flashtool from here (mirrors Google Drive or Mega)
c) download also latest Android 4.0.4 (mirror) for Sony XPERIA S LT26i
d) paste the ftf file downloaded in step c) to folder „Firmware“ included in the XPERIA Flashtool
e) open the XPERIA Flashtool, click on flash and choose downloaded firmware, than click ok. Important - if you do not want to delete any data of your phone, just uncheck flashing userdata.sin file. All data will remain in your phone, but sometimes it can cause additional troubles. So it is better (and I recommend that) to do the backup of your personal data, than proceed with clean instalation and then restore your personal data.
f) turn off your phone and when Flashtool shows pop up window, connect phone to PC with holding volume down button
g) after few minutes all is done and your phone gets the new firmware
Here you got 3 ways to update good luck

Ok so I successfully downloaded the firmware file but I got an error when using the flash tool, I have attached the log if you can maybe help me out with what went wrong.

The clue's in the error message - you don't have the required drivers installed.
There's a directory named "drivers" under the main flashtool dir. Run flashtool-drivers.exe and install the appropriate drivers. I think "Common Drivers Viskan Board" is the one you need. I ended up installing all of them to get it to flash (which took ages).
Ok so I got it to work, all I had to do was hold down the vulumn down button for like an extra 5 seconds while it began to flash
Thanks for the help, I appreciate it

Hello again
So I have successfully rooted the device and installed TWRP but as before I cannot seem to get into the recovery mode, when I boot the phone with "power and vol +" it doesn't boot into recovery but instead there is a quick glimpse of what I think is the recovery mode (I cant actually see it but something happens for a split second) but it flashes past way too fast then goes to the normal Sony logo and continues booting normally. I have tried this like at least 20 times in the last 2 weeks and have researched other ways to boot into recovery but I can't seem to find anyone with an answer. Do you know what could fix this? Or is there a way to boot into recovery using a computer?

I terrible bricked my Honor. Fastboot not working. Need help.

Hi I install one application (host name changer) and restart the phone and it stop working. Stops at HONOR screen. I enter to bootloader, open multi-tool and change recovery. Unfortunately bootloader not eorking ok, because when I wanted to upload IMG files to unbrick the phone, I get the error in Multi-tool. I decided to format/clean all data (I use CWM recovery and later also TWRP recovery). Again uploaded stock recovery and try use 3 buttons. Unfortunately installation start and after one second failed.
I also try to use QTADB to upload updata.apk but it not working - there is problem with bootloader. Also Minimal ADB not working - doesn't see Honor.
How can I upload / install rom now?
Is it possible instal ROM from external SD card? I try but on external card (using CWM) I see no files?
You can't use other recovery than the stock one to use 3 buttons. If the phone is not recognized by adb I'm not sure if you can restore it.
I used 3 buttons with stock recovery, and installation failed.
Did you replaced build.prop and local.prop with the original ones before 3 buttons?
Las night installed B310 without any problems.
I did not replace build.prop and local.prop because I install some other app which - I guess - modify build.prop and this is why I have that problems. Afert I reboot phone it brick on HONOR loco and Minimal ADB do not response. When I connect USB cable and enter to bootloader the PC see the phone, Hisuite start but can not connect. So I have problem with bootloader - it does not response using Minimal ADB. Onlu Multitool lets me change recovery. All I can do now is enter to recovery, bootloader, change recovery (only with Multitool), start install ROM (using 3 buttons) but it failed immediately.
Try to install stock dev rom 4.x.x
4.x.x roms have not prop checker so you can install them via 3btns
But how to upload this rom to HH? All I can do is using Minimal adb (not all function, but sometime I can use pull and push functions);

Put it on a SD Card?
If you can enter fastboot and your bootloader is unlocked you can try to flash the system.img via fastboot. But since you have CWM it shoul be unlocked
Finally the Multi-tool stoped responding (I couldn't upload img files to unbrick - there was an error).
But suddenly the Minimal ADB started responding, and I uploaded build.prop and after that I flash recovery.img, system.img, boot.img and cust.img.
Thanks for help.
The following is irrelevant. Just to share.
I messed up honor 6 plus once. It booted then it permanently hanged. Black screen, home launcher does not respond, no navigation bar. Power button worked with the options to reboot and power down.
Before I messed it up, I have unlocked the boot loader and flashed cwm and rooted by install zip.
I tried to fix it by cwm wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik but that did not help.
Later I found that I was able to boot into fastboot mode and managed flashing back stock recovery. Then I downloaded a full stock ROM, decompressed the dload and copied it to root of a sdcard. Then I applied three finger update. It worked and fixed the problem.

Well to set permissions you must use either root explorer or ES filexplorer, personally I use the last one with root privileges on.
after you move the files to correspondent folder you need to click on it for a few seconds and then go to properties/permissions and check only left column all 3 and middle column the first from above.
As for stock recovery go to the thread of Honor multi-tool, there you have how to and were to download stock recovery.

[Q] Sony D2303 stuck in bootloop,no recovery system,bootloader locked.

Hello xda!
This is my first post here, and I am sorry that it is a one of me asking for Your Help.
When I first got the phone with 18.0.C.1.13 jelly bean it was a dream. I mean fast, responsive with a intuitive UI and with a low price tag.
However i made some OTA updates to kitkat and the phone became a fraction of what it once was. I now realize that I should have probably made a dalvik cache clean-up but i think i may have messed up the stock recovery with CWM and Twrp.
Long story short I got fed up with 18.3.1.C.1.17 CE and had found this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2762296
and downloaded XPERIA M2 D2303 Central Europe 18.0.C.1.13
Unfortunately RootLord links were broken so i downloaded from this user
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62242961&postcount=82
And then when i tried to flash the ftf for the first time everything unchecked.
On boot I got a boot loop
It starts with Xperia logo than some plasma waves resonating and then back to xperia logo and all over again.
I use flash tool 0.9.19.7.
Also i have noticed that in flash mode green light is only for a half a second while fast boot mode always stays blue.
I tried booting into stock recovery but I think i dont have one on my phone because a month ago i was experimenting with King root 4.1 and Cwm, Twrp.
I also downloaded SDK package installed Google drivers, flashtool drivers driver pack 1.5 from this forum
Also when I type adb devices into cmd or adb fastboot recovery nothing shows.
Please I am asking for your help because I dont know what to do, I have been trying to resolve this problem for three days.
Sorry for my English it is not my native tongue.
Hi, try with older version of flashtool, everything else from your description looks good(for me).
Here's a log file from flashtool v0.9.19.4 and the same firmware version.

Already did it doesnt work because the bootloader is locked
Here is my PM between me and AleksJ

If your bootloader is already unlocked the easiest way to update to latest firmware is through EMMA software.
1. Install emma and load services.
2. Reboot to flashmode - hold volume down while connect your M2 device to USB.
3. On emma select and flash latest update - 18.3.1.C.1.17
4. Update TA
Then if you want to use a 'permanent' recovery, download this TWRP by ericas and flash it via fastboot:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
To enter into recovery:
Hold Volume Down then Power OFF, when device vibrate release them.
Also, in this case (unlocked boot loader) you can use another(second) recovery too.
Good Luck
Hi AleksJ!
Thank you very much for your help.
I downloaded emma ran it and got the message that the bootloader was locked.
But as you can see from this screenshot imgurURL
It seems i was successful in updating firmware to 18.0.C.1.13
I think I should probably wipe cache and dalvik but i cant install via Flashtool(by Androxyde not emma) the recovery boot.img . I Choose option select system to flash and get this
pastebin Url
I also get that for system.sin and kernel.sin
Also I have a problem with adb devices not recognizing phone.

What's your final point then?
If you think that .ftf firmware file is broken, and can't trust on provided FlashTool log, then don't use it.
You can't apply boot.img whatever you want from wherever you want if your boot loader is locked.

Thank You for your help the problem has been resolved i had to tick wipe user data in flash tool.
I have learned my lesson. Next time i will use Titanium,Nandroid and Philz recovery before doing something like this again.
Always best to wipe everything and start fresh. Always done it.
D2303,18.3.1.C.1.15 kk, deodexed, debloated, rooted, philz touch recovery, bravia engine 2+x-reality+z3 super vivid, viper audio, xposed mods.

My z3 doesn't turn on unless I press the yellow button near sim is it a software issu

I had to change my phone's speaker in a local repair shop, after that the problem is persisting, power button is also functinal but not perfect. Is it a hardware issue???
I have an unlocked bootloader with RSXW 3, I tried factory reset in twrp & installing other rom, but haven't tried flashing a Ftf.
Please tell me how should i proceed???.:crying::crying:
Flash the firmware which RSXW 3 based firmware(official) via Flashtool, and don't wipe data.
@maple_mak
Thank u for your reply.
Are u sure there is a difference between twrp flashing & flashing via flashtool???(any partition that twrp can't access that can lead to getting stuck.
I don't wanna loose my root & recovery it can get really troublesome trying to root again with this problem.
Also there is a constant green led while connecting phone to pc in flashmode (& even after disconnecting) & pc shows device not recognized
You can download the app pre-rooted firmware at General thread and use TWRP to flash it.
TWRP is for flashing rom and mods. Flashtool is for flash firmware, flash kernel and unlock bootloader.

[RECOVERY][BOOT][ROOT][VFD-1400] Vodafone Prime Tab 7

DISCLAIMER: I WILL NOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR DEVICE BY USING THIS METHOD
Warning: this will only work with the older firmware (Android 6.0.1/1BEBFDB1 )
What this will achieve:
You will flash a modified boot image that runs selinux in permissive mode.
You will flash a custom recovery that allows you to root the device.
After you are done, your userdata will most likely not be encrypted anymore. You can re-enable encryption in the system settings.
DOWNLOAD
1. Install the usb drivers that come with the device, in /system/etc/USBDriver.iso.
They are also in the download package, in USBDriver/.
Run Setup.vbs.
Also install SUGAR QCT_SP v11.1.2 Setup.exe from the download package.
2. Connect your device to your computer and boot it into EDL mode (enable usb debugging).
adb.exe reboot edl
3. Run SUGAR QCT_SP (use credentials from download package), select VF1400 device and click on the upgrade button.
It will download the latest official firmware update into "C:\Program Files (x86)\SUGAR QCT_SP_Gotu2\bin\VF1400-2AVXXXX" (VF1400-2AVDDE1, for me).
After the download is done and the flashing started, make a copy of the VF1400-2AVXXXX folder to your Desktop.
4. While the flashing is going on, we can start to modify out copy of VF1400-2AVXXXX.
In it should be a folder, most likely called 1BEBFDB1 (version number of the update).
Inside that folder should be the .mbn files we care about: B1BEB0B0CD00.mbn (boot image) and R1BEB0B0CD00.mbn (recovery image).
Possibly they will be called differently, but I assume the boot image always starts with B and the recovery with R.
You can check "C:\Program Files (x86)\SUGAR QCT_SP_Gotu2\tool\logs\Sugar_XXXXXXXX.log" to make sure which file is which.
Replace B1BEB0B0CD00.mbn with boot.img from the download and R1BEB0B0CD00.mbn with recovery.img.
5. After the flash is done and the device rebooted, put it in edl mode again (after enabling usb debugging).
adb.exe reboot edl
6. Now, *before* we start SUGAR QCT_SP again, copy the VF1400-2AVXXXX into "C:\Program Files (x86)\SUGAR QCT_SP_Gotu2\bin"
7. Start SUGAR QCT_SP, select VF1400 device and hit upgrade.
Congratulations! After flashing and after the next reboot you are running with selinux in permissive mode and you can flash SuperSU from the recovery.
Now copy the latest SuperSU flashable zip into your internal storage and install it from recovery.
The recovery used is CM-13.0, device tree based on https://github.com/zwliew/android_device_xiaomi_land
Being compiled with prebuilt kernel from boot.img.
Works great! Thank you
Cool! Thanks alot!
Hi fused#1,
thanks for this, have you tried to install Xposed on this device after rooting it?
Best regards,

Hi,
i've now tested and installed xposed.
You need this files: xposed-v87-sdk23-arm.zip, XposedInstaller_3.1.1.apk and for safety the xposed-uninstaller-20160829-arm.zip.
Install the xposed-v87-sdk23-arm.zip with recovery, after reboot install the XposedInstaller_3.1.1.apk.
Best wishes,

Hello,
is there any way to get ntfs oder exfat support on the vodafone tab prime 7 ?
at the moment, it is original, without rom changes.
Hi, I tried your guide today, but it failed at flashing the alternative bootloader and recovery. System was not able to boot anymore after flashing the second time with your altered files.
Display only showed "powered by android" and nothing else happened. Luckily I found out that you are able to switch back into EDL mode when this happens:
- Shut down device (disconnect any cable and press power until display switches off)
- Press Vol+ AND Vol- for about 10 seconds and then insert USB cable
-> "powered by android" label flashes up and then display goes black and voila you are in EDL mode again
---------------------
Here comes my question:
Is it possible that your bootloader and/or recovery are incompatible with latest FW version? Could you have a look at the current bootloader and recovery to get selinux in permissive mode again? I attached the original bootloader and recovery that was downloaded with SUGAR QCT_SP.
Hi,
quite possible.
I wasn't even aware of the new firmware version. Obviously this only works with the old firmware. I will make that clear in the original post.
What firmware/android version is it? Maybe I'll look into that today or tomorrow.
Cheers
edit: I'm not even being offered the new firmware. Can you upload all of it somewhere?

Hi,
it seems there is again a new fw, files named like R1BEJ0J0CD00.mbn, with security patch level of April 2017. A user flashed this with the root-patch, but he has no wifi anymore.
Thanks for a update

I don't think this is compatible with the latest update for the device. If you are running thatthat could be the reason. It's possible they updated the radio firmware or whatever the **** it's called these days...
Hi fused#1,
have you a hint, i've now a 2nd device with the old fw (and saved old firmware files), but sugar_qct always do a update and downloads the new firmware... is it possible to flash the old, saved files?
Update: got it, renamed all old fw files to the new names, copied they to the new created directory (replaced new fw), and sugar_qct installed the old fw with the new file names.
Thanks,
MrFX
Hey misterfx,
can u do an tutorial, how u did it to flash the old fw?
I tryed many things but he doesnt accept the old files (and i dont know the new folder-name).
Would help many guys i think, thanks ^^
Hi,
you can download the new fw with sugar_qct (but while downloading, unplug the tab)... you now have the new folder name and the files inside it.
Rename ALL old firmware files (from backup) to the new names and copy they to the new fw folder and replace all files.
Then exit sugar_qct and start it again, it will find the "new" files... make upgrade.
Good luck,
MrFX
