Until someone makes a custom recovery, there's no way to root yet.

No pushing SuperSU through via adb like the Note 7 userdebug build
Note 7 didn't need Custom recovery to obtain 'Root'

Oh, well that would be great. I really have no use for recovery so much as I just really want root access.

[Q] Lost Root with 4.4.2, How to Reset Flash Count

I'm currently using the 4.4.2 Gummy Rom and I somehow lost my root but I still have my TWRP recovery. I was going to go back to stock unrooted and use the Casual toolkit to get back to where I was, but my flash count is tipped.
I feel like I'm in a loop because I can't root on 4.4 and because I lost my root I can't use Triangle Away to fix my flash count, but I feel like I'm missing something. Is there anyway I can get my root back to use Triangle Away?
Thanks, any help is appreciated.

Have to use twrp to flash SuperSU 1.86zip (latest version)?
Tap build number about ten times to enable Developer Options, go into Developer Options, and set root access to "Apps and ADB."

And I thought I couldn't flash SuperSU v1.89 if I didn't have root?

You don't need root to flash SuperSu in twrp, that's how you originally obtained root.

Just install SuperSu from the play store and update the binary. Its not that you lost root, its just gummy does not come with a superuser app installed. I had this same problem too.

When I do that, it keeps saying that installation failed and to try reboot.
Also, what you are saying is that technically I can move to another rom and I will have root?

yes, if you flash a pre-rooted rom you would have root.

Got it! thanks guys!

Do i have to be rooted to flash a rom or just have a unlocked bootloader

do i only need to have a unlocked boot loader to flash a rom. or is root needed
Just an unlocked bootloader.
This. If it modifies boot.IMG you'll need an unlocked bootloader for any phone.
Root access has nothing to do with flashing a custom ROM
You can flash a custom ROM and not have root access
You can have root access without a custom ROM
You need an unlocked bootloader for both (unless you use Towelroot or whatever, which I don't recommend).
Read some threads in the first link of my signature.

You'll need an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery flashed in fastboot to root. Or you can use towel root without a custom recovery
Don't know about the Samsung device

If the bugs in 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 annoy you, I wouldn't suggest you jump to L for too much more than a look around.

Then just flash another radio? It's not like you can't use the 4.4.2 radio on 4.4.4, you can even use KK radios on L and vice versa.

Neither. You need a custom recovery to flash a ROM.
You need one or the other to get a custom recovery though

OTA Updates, Keep Root?

I just got the 4.4.4 OTA update and appear to have lost root, i'm sure i can re root again when i get home.
However i'm wondering what people recommend in keeping root when taking an OTA update.
Thanks for any advice.

SuperSU has a "survival" mode you can check off. It basically tries to keep root after an update. Luckily its easy enough to re-root the One+.

I'm guessing you used a toolkit to unlock and root, right? If you haven't done it already, download SuperSU from here:
http://download.chainfire.eu/452/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip
Then you can flash it using the install menu in TWRP recovery.

Of course it works. Also guys TWRP will try and reroot your phone a well after a flash if it detects you lost root. Not for nothing but some of you need to do more reading before you street messing with your phones and leave them toolkits alone.

@playya alright mate got my one plus one now. unlocked bootloader installed twrp and flashed super su. disabled update cm recovery on update. then did update from 22r - 25r then did 25r - 30O and obviously 30O - 33r I didn't realise that the update cm recovery would not stick after each update. so ive now tried to reflash twrp but command line says writing recovery ok and finished but checked on phone and its not there? any ideas do I need to unlock bootloader again which I doubt. but not sure if flashing update would also relock?? cheers

If you have root and a custom recovery you shouldn't be taking an OTA in the first place.

You'll probably need to flash a custom recovery via fastboot/toolkit, you can root at the same time or flash a supersu zip once you have your custom recovery.

You need to be on firmware B182+ (which you are)
You need to have twrp 3.1.0+
You need to flash stock boot image before Magisk.
You can get stock boot either from rom zip (boot.img) or stock firmware (update.app) and extract boot using Huawei Update extractor. Then flash boot image manually.
