Hi. I had cyanogenmod recovery installed when trying to update android to kitkat, and suddenly the phone wouldn't boot into recovery, instead i got a dead android icon and a CSC error msg, and commands would not respond. Able to boot phone, and after a factory reset I have a cyanogenmod version running, but with Playstore access errors (as described widely on forums, not responding to clearing cache, restart etc).
I want to start again.
I have latest USB driver, Odin dl'ed and ready to go.
My question: Can I flash a latest Cyanogenmod, or do I need to return to stock firmware?
(I read somewhere that if exact firmware for device not flashed, it will permanently brick the phone, and my model is GT-N1705, nearest version is GT-N1700)
Many thanks in advance

Greetings and welcome to xda, I would recommend using odin to flash stock and start over again just to be safe. Your model sounds like the lte variant which is the N7105 not the n1705. As long as you use odin to flash a N7105 firmware you will be fine. You can find your firmware here

Thanks, Sawdoctor. I did exactly as you recommended (with the help ofsome youtube videos) and I'm laughing. Had a bit of fiddling with GApps to get the right one, but after a few tries & cache wipes it all booted up and is working a treat. Thankyou thankyou thankyou

Hi,
I bought a bricked Galaxy Note 10.1 GT-N8000 and managed to flash stock firmware and booted correctly except for a strange Watermark on screen which showed device specs. Then I tried flashing German Kitkat version thru ODIN which failed, now the device is stuck on Galaxy Note 10.1 screen even though I have tried flashing ODIN many times and it has shown PASS but doesn't go beyond that. It can't even go get into recovery (only can get to ODIN mode). Please help me as i can't go beyond that even though i have searched a lot google, no one seems to have gotten any solution.
34 views but no suggestion!!! It seems mighty developers never bought this phone to suggest something. It's strange ODIN can flash and shows success (firmware or any recovery) but nothing seems to install and make it boot. Pl someone got some idea?

Have you tried flashing a custom rom?.
Just realised you said it wouldn't go into recovery.
Try flashing from another pc
Which version of ODIN are you using?.
No haven't tried custom ROM but probably this device was never rooted but can give that a try. Yes it won't go into recovery at all. I will give try from another PC. I have tried ODIN v. 1.85 and v3.09.

I think it might be a driver issue with your pc if it won't work with v1.85.
Trying reinstalling the Samsung drivers on your pc.
I flashed stock firmware before with the same PC and it worked and I have tried to use same ODIN and same stock firmware which worked before. Even now ODIN says PASS, infact there is no failure at all but device itself is stuck on "Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1" splash screen. I have tried restarting PC, using different USB ports but ODIN always says PASS without problem but device condition is same. I think may be i should change firmware/ stock recovery even though previously the same worked. I am at a loss, don't know what to do?
P.S: Edit: as i was writing these comments I thought of trying out same german kitkat version which earlier broke my device and this time it succeeded and at least device has come out of that splash screen though it is still stuck samsung animation screen. so i will try more and will update. any suggestions are welcome. thanks
ok, now it's possible to get into stock recovery at least, although it shows "E:failed to mount /efs (Invalid argument)" and " Applied the CSC-code : unknown". What to do now? kindly advise
Finally managed to ODIN a stock firmware to work correctly and device is able to boot but show "Broadband: Unknown". Thanks for your help

Can you check your IMEI if its available in setting/device? If its not your EFS is missing or corrupt.
yes, IMEI is Unknown! that means EFS is corrupt! I know the IMEI, I have the box, how can i restore it?

Thanks a lot for the link. I will go through it deeply and try it out and will come back.
Just some food for thought! Since i bought this device bricked and never knew which firmware it came with and tried different firmwares randomly until i found one that could work only with "Factory Mode". My question;
1. Could it be that I flashed a wrong firmware causing this thing to go Factory Mode?
2. Or must it be corrupt EFS folder?
I am asking because now i rooted my device, it is showing one EFS folder and when i tried to flash Philz recovery over TWRP it gave me error that " This package is for 'c).p4noterf.n8000.GT-N8000' devices; this is a 'p4notewifi'.
E:Unable to mount '/efs'.
Any suggestions? Please
I think this efs folder is generated automatically by the android when it can't find one because when i checked it was an empty folder, nothing inside. so may the issue is of broken efs system folder. Can't create my own IMEI since i have the box and IMEI is written on it.
Does this device use SIM to make calls or just for data download? Couldn't figure out! Is there a simple way to get rid of the "Factory Mode"? may be i don't need all that SIM functionality after all but certainly want to get rid of that "Factory Mode".
Can I try this one

Any suggestions, kindly do suggest if i should do whatever is described in the above post or the ones suggested before written below

Please advise which method should i try. Awaiting eagerly for input
Is it possible to use following tool to repair EFS?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ol-updated-09-06-14-efs-professional-t1308546
Please suggest me something if someone out there know something?
Finally fixed it by using the thread shown above but i have a fake IMEI but factory mode is no longer there and everything is working normally. Is it possible to change IMEI to my own by using methods i have seen on net including youtube? please advise

Mine is wifi+3G version, its called GT-N8000. Mine was bricked before and I flashed it using ODIN (its available everywhere almost) and stock firmware (you need to use the one installed on it from factory, you can find download link from sammobile site but be careful download the one that is specific for you model no.). Then describe your problem may be i can help you.
I have jailbroken many an iphone and ipod, and I have recently bought the S6. I am keen to root but it seems far more potentially troublsome, and far less straightforward, or maybe its just because I am learning for the first time.
I bought this in New Zealand from Spark. I assume it is locked?
Is the bootloader locked?
I couldnt find the matching build on Chainfire, Can this particular model be rooted?
Is there any guide to rooting? It seems all the information is spread out all over the place and no definitive guide and FAQ.
I can't even find the original stock rom.
Is rooting not similar to jailbreaking in the way it is done?
My specs:
Model: SM-G920I
Android: 5.0.2
Build: LRX22G.G920IDVU1AOD1
Thank you in advance.

I have the SM-G920I and it's rooted.
Rooting the G920I is apparently not as straightforward as others but still possible.
I had to flash TWRP via Odin, then flash the [BETA][2015.04.28] SuperSU v2.49 package via recovery.
Details when I get back from work, or some kind soul decides to help.
There is a stock image thread and a few stock roms floating around. Request / search lower down in that thread
Thanks, is it better to reset the s6 before rooting? For a clean root?
And about all the warnings about 'you do this at your own risk blah blah'. If you do everything properly how could you actually hard brick the device? If you do it properly the worst that should happen is a soft brick, in which case you just restore the phone and try again right?

Here is my experience, a fellow kiwi on Spark (with a 2D branded phone). I too have the 920I running on A0D1 via OTA.
It is unlikely Spark firmwares have locked bootloaders.
So long as you can get to download mode (holding volume down, home and the power button for up to 10 seconds), you can bring your phone back to life if something goes wrong . You will want a copy of Spark's firmware handy before you start, you can get it from here . Just in case.
Use the USB cable that come with your phone and make sure you have the drivers installed.
Any ways, first I flashed TWRP via Odin (through download mode Andy), flash was successful, however booting into recovery hung my phone. Managed to get back to download mode from there and flashed CF-Root for 920I. Boot loop.
Back to download mode and flashed CF-Root for 920F. Success, rooted and booted. Andy, if all you are looking for is root, avoiding the TWRP flash may work and going straight to CF-Root. Others have had issues with this, I'm not sure. I'd try the 920I first and if no good try the 920F. Again, as long as you can get to download mode, you can flash Sparks firmware through Odin to restore it to stock. Good luck and remember, attempting any of this WILL trip KNOX. If your using this as a company phone, you will run into issues. Can't imagine we will see Samsung pay any time soon in NZ.
For those interested in TWRP, after the root was obtained, my recovery was still busted. I flashed the TWRP image via Flashify and now I have also have TWRP. Good times.
Thanks mate, it all seems quite confusing, makes me want to go back to Iphone hahaha. I am not a dev, I just like the freedom to be able to do whatever I damn well please on my phone that I paid for.

What the chap did in that video was exactly what my original plan was to root and install TWRP. Where I got stuck is the TWRP recovery hung so I couldn't flash SuperSU. Good run down of the basics of flashing with Odin though.
What I did after the recovery got stuck was return to download mode and flash CF-Root again through Odin (same process as in the video). The one for the 920I didn't actually work (boot loop), the 920F CF-Root worked fine though. Probably has something to do with these CF-Roots having been build on a older firmware as you noted in your OP. Then, once you have root, you can flash a custom recovery (such as TWRP) through Flashify (available on Play Store).
It certainly can be confusing with all the trial and error reported in these forums, this is largely because the devices are new. The Devs' will iron out the bugs in due course making the process much simpler. You could wait a few weeks and check back, or grab yourself a stock Spark firmware and have a crack. Flashing this trough Odin will return you to stock provided you can get your phone to download mode. No responsibility from my end.
Another thing, you will lose OTA updates. You will find newer firmwares here as they get released, to update its as simple as flashing them through Odin.
Yes the G920I listed on Chainfires site is for the AOC6 build, but I am on the AOD1 build.
Another thing, should i factory reset before rooting?

So were you able to install TWRP?
CF Root works for me with 920I version, but flashing TWRP forces it not to boot past the Samsung Logo.
Likewise with flashing a custom kernel also forces it not to boot past the Samsung Logo
Im on the C4 Australia build.. thinking about trying to flash a later 920I build to see if it'll help

Doesn't have to be the New Zealand one, I just used it since I'm in Australia. Any 920I firmware should work just make sure it's at least 1D. I only tried those firmwares, and always had success

okay so I had no clue want I was doing and just rooted my Samsung s6 sm-g920i (optus), Worked like a charm went straight to get twerp also worked with no problems then i tried to get xposed now heres where the problem began, it said i needed to manually flash the frameware so i did and it 'failed' couldn't find what was wrong utill it tried the arm64 version ,at this point i had no idea what i was doing and still dont, and then tried to flash it. SUCCSESS twrp says, i got to start my phone and it just doesnt its stuck in a bootloop i try to get the stock framework couldnt find 5.1.1 so i tryed 5.0.2 and it just kept saying failed, then i went into twerp and tried to facory reset it and it didnt work so i went into advanced wipe and ticked everything hit restart 'you have no os on this phone' then tried stock firmware through odin and it didnt work again. So any advice

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist.
Download a stock firmware for your device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/stock-firmware-official-stock-firmware-t3086387
And flash it through Odin.
Feel free to post your questions in the General Q&A thread of your device to get further assistance: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/help-thread-question-s6-t3110220
BTW I do recommend you to read more before flashing stuff on your device.

Hi folks! Thanks for this place where we can actually get a great deal of help!
My daughter has a Kids tablet SM-T2105 which was rooted, but for some reason it got stuck on the TWRP recovery a while back so I decided to flash the original stock rom to it. Nothing knowing much I gathered all the information I needed and did the process using Odin, the stock ROM I downloaded from a reliable source believing that the version of the tablet was USA (since I bought it from Best Buy). Odin says it had been flashed successfully but when the tablet ends the process and reboots I got stuck in bootloop with the Samsung logo flashing.
I tried to access the recovery from there but it doesn't work, so I tried installing the TWRP and cleaning caches, resetting to factory, etc, but nothing seems to work.
I actually tried this process with many different stock ROM versions (region XAR) but it always stays stuck in bootloop.
I honestly don't know what else to do and I'd appreciate if you guys could guide me on this.
Thanks in advance!

Hi, smart XDA Developers,
I just installed root about 2 months ago to my tab, and installed cwm with rom manager. However, I installed the wrong version of cwm and it never booted again. I thought my tab was in hard-brick mode. I searched Google, Naver, and even Baidu for informations of mbn or hex file of my tab. I tried to install the David's rom 5.1.1, but I failed at installing the cwm. Is there anyway to fix my problem? I have the original 4.4.2 P605K rom in my computer. Sorry for my poor English, and written from my iPhone in PM 8:41, December 2nd.
P.s. I'm quite busy. If you have time, send me the solution with email ([email protected]) or comments if you want.
Thank you.

Greetings and welcome to assist. If you install the original stock firmware through odin you can then re root and flash the correct recovery. Can you still get download mode and does your pc recognise your tablet ?
You can use updato here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/updato-largest-online-firmware-archive-t3413785
to obtain the correct rom for your tab
Good Luck

If your pc recognises the phone that is something but not being able to get into download mode is worrying. There are only 3 things I can suggest
Mskips toolkit here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...olkit-unified-android-toolkit-galaxy-t2998214
or if you still have root then you maybe able to flash twrp through flashify from thr playstore or you can try flashing stock rom for your device through mobile odin
If none of these work then try asking your question here

and hopefully the experts can help
