Question about Sprint's $150 credit for porting a number and adding a second line....

So I read that Sprint is offering a $150 credit for people porting their number to them from another carrier..and I have a quick question regarding it (not sure if this is the right spot on the forum or not)
I'm currently a Sprint customer....and I'm going to add my girlfribbend to my account tomorrow. She currently is a Verizon customer and will be porting her number over to Sprint onto my account.
Will she be eligible for the $150 credit since we'll be porting her over and starting a new line of service eventhough she's going to be ADDED to my account on a second line?

[Q] Questions about buying phone in the US

Hello there, I'm from Indonesia. This summer holiday (Jun-Jul mid) I'll have a trip to the US for the first time and beside that I want to buy a new smart phone.
1. I'm 15 yo and I won't occupied by my parents when in the trip, but I'm given a additional visa credit card by my parent which is issued in my country. Question is, can I use that CC to buy the phone without any additional info needed or what do i need to have/give any additional info/sth like that?
2. What retail stores are recommended there? The price, the service, the easiness for me? As I know there are so many retail stores in US. I'll be in major cities though, like LA, LV, Boston, NYC
3. Any recommended Android phone to buy? Actually I'm aiming for the SGS2 but looks like it won't have come to US when I'm there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Here are some quick thoughts. In the USA, it is often cheaper to buy over the web. They will want to ship to the billing address of the cc to prevent fraud. This will prevent you from using your credit card with most mail order vendors. Is the CC in your parents name or yours? If it is in your name, you should have no problem buying at a retail store as long as you have your passport for identification. Will you be staying with relatives? Could they run the purchase through their CC (reimburse in cash via ATM)?
Most of the carriers in the USA use a different technology than the rest of the world. You need a GSM phone. AT&T and T-Mobile both use GSM but use different frequencies for voice and data than most/all of Asia. So you are looking for a quad band phone that supports the frequency used in Indonesia. 2100? If you bought a prepaid T-mobile phone they would unlock it after 60 days and $10 in your account. (Or pay someone on ebay for the unlock code $10) T-mobile has some good prices but they only have a few prepaid android phones. LG Optimus T/Optimus One ($120) and the Samsung Galaxy S ($350) https://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/prepaid.aspx
You can also buy an unlocked phone that has been imported into the USA. If you buy a quad band phone, you could use it in the usa and in Indonesia. One of the major problems is that the vendors are almost all mail-order firms. If you are dealing with family, you could have them order it before you arrived so that you could have it right away. The Samsung Galaxy S2 looks like it is available via mail order for around $700-$800 USD with NO Warranty.

Unfortunately I don't have any relative there. The cc is in my name, so no problem right?
Because of that I'm looking for concrete stores maybe such as BestBuy, Walmart or anything else but I don't know which one of them gives me the best one?
Oh, so altough I buy in stores like I said before, instead of in the carrier's itself store am I still forced to buy the "post-paid system?"
As I know they're able to give it away off-contract but with higher price and locked, right?
I think most of the new smartphones are using quad band so that's not a problem... Because I have a friend here using a Captivate and it is fully functional after he unlocked it to be able to use the SIM cards issued here.
Thanks.

I will agree that most of the new smartphones sold outside the USA are quadband. Probably most smartphones sold by T-mobile and AT&T or are unlocked will be quadband and most likely support 3g frequency in your country. If the phone is associated with ANY other carrier, 90% of the time it will not support GSM.
PS I never bought from them but if you are in Chicago you could check out http://welectronics.com/gsm/Samsung/SAMSUNG_I9100-GALAXY-S-II-16GB.HTML In NYC - http://www.jr.com/category/office/cellular-phones/n/4294528936-4294605649/sort-by-salePrice-1/ One of the few places that you might be able to haggle on the price (Source: web posting).

Cross upgrade through AmazonWireless or Costco? Cancel Data possible?

I want to pick up a SGSII and its cheaper over at Amazon. I was planning on doing a cross-upgrade (upgrade another line and use the phone on my line). Is this possible with Amazon as I will be cancelling the data plan on the upgraded line - however, the line will be active with just a regular calling plan?
Additionally, AT&T stated that they will extend a statement credit to my account once I put an upgrade through on any line. They shouldn't care where I upgrade (be it AT&T Corp or Amazon), correct?

Well I work for a kiosk in a Costco, and we would be able to do a cross in store. I would re-phrase the part about "canceling" the data plan on the eligible line or you will get flamed by the sales rep (LOL). Just say cross upgrade. I usually assume statement credits are only offered through AT&T customer care, however, if a sales rep tells you (over the phone) that you can upgrade wherever you like, make sure they "notate" it in the system. Costco's systems will not be able to read the notes, but it can be verified by phone.

Black Skyrocket @ Fry's for $139.99.

Good price to take advantage of, whether you are in a LTE market or not. White one selling fir 199.99 on Nov. 9th. Got my 15 day price match garanteed, eventhough it was a little more than 15 days.
What city?
Did you pay tax on the $139 or tax on the full retail price?
Fry's Special
Got mine for $129.99 on Black Saturday at Fry's...
Nice... $250 over at AT&T store and they didn't even have any stock in.
In Plano, TX, and yes I paid tax on the $139.99 but again they did honor the price match guaranteed. They refunded a total of $64.95, I originally paid 199.99 for it. It just sick that Corporate AT&T stores charge a lot of money for smartphones and won't even do a price match. I really didn't care because Fry's is just like literally 100 steps away from the AT&T Corporate Store. Don't worry AT&T, you're still raping me with the phone bill.
Cheaper ATT Skyrocket
If you want to get an cheaper Skyrocket using ATT store here's how you do it, if you already have a existing ATT account.
Find a ZIP code that shows up in ATT site as $149, like in 94109 for San Francisco.
The next procedure requires 2 steps
1 - Go to the ATT site and change your billing address for a address in that zip code.
Your billing address is ONLY used to mail you stuff, NOT checked against your Credit Card billing address, so if you leave in Arizona and your CC is from Phoenix and your ATT Billing address is from California, ATT bill will still be paid.
2 - Now, for this step you have to call ATT via 611 or 1-800-331-0500
Once on the phone w billing department tell them you need to change you "place of primary use" so it matches your billing address. If they ask why you want to change, say because of work, or your parents are military and you about to move.
Primary Location of Usage is used to calculate how you get taxed on your bills.
The zip code from where your primary usage location is how they see what upgrades and prices are available to you.
Easiest way to make sure it took effect, is to, after you done w the ATT representative, login onto ATT site (or logout and back in if you already in ATT site), check for your upgrade availability and on top right hand side corner should show your new Zip code and reflect the prices and phone availability to you.
Now, once your address address is "fixed" you need to go to a corporate store and get your upgrade. Note that authorized dealers might be able to upgrade you also, but safest to go to the corporate store and do it.
At the corporate store, they will be able to pull your info and see your zip code and now that the Skyrocket is to be charged 149.99 (and NOT 250 like regular) since that is what is charged on 94109 zip code.
Once you have the Skyrocket w you, maybe within week later or so, change your billing address to the correct one and call ATT to change your "place of primary use", otherwise you end up paying Cali taxes.
If you want to be fancy, you can go as far and change the "place of primary use" to Nevada, since they have the lowest tax rates in the US.

Thank you for your post, I was able to get the Mckinney best Buy to match the $139 price. Have to wait a few days to get it because they don't actually have them yet but well worth it!

Unlock Sprint N10+?

Is it possible to unlock it to use work multiple carriers? I have Sprint but also service with Metro and I'd like to use this phone to go back and forth with. It's not paid off yet so Sprint won't unlock it, I think.
Nobody?
Historically they aren't going to unlock.
You could check if anyone can unlock on eBay or unlocking websites. It's gonna cost money.
If you're under contract TMobile or ATT may pay it off. But you'll be under a new contract.
Those are some options.
I don't mind paying. It's Sprint. I still plan to use spring but I need to use Metro when it go out to work because Sprint sucks in my area.
So see if third party sellers can unlock. But Sprint may still relock the device.
As far as I remember, nobody can unlock Sprint. Sprint DOES unlock their devices, they just make it harder to. You have to call Customer Services, let them know, as long as your account are in good standing, they might unlock it.
Here is their policy on that regard:
Sprint Postpaid Devices
Sprint will unlock a device from Sprint's network under the following circumstances:
The device is SIM Unlock capable
The device must be or have been active on the Sprint network for a minimum of 50 days
Any associated Service Agreement (or any Minimum Service Term, where applicable), Installment Billing Agreement, or Lease Agreement has been fulfilled including, but not limited to, payment in full of any applicable: 1) early termination fees, 2) accelerated installment or lease payments, and/or 3) end-of-lease purchase options. Because leased devices are not owned by the user, the end of lease purchase option must be exercised and paid in full before the SIM unlock is completed.
The associated account is in good standing
The device has not been reported as lost or stolen, associated with fraudulent activity, or otherwise flagged as ineligible to be unlocked
For SIM unlock-capable devices (generally most devices launched after February 2015), Sprint will automatically unlock postpaid devices when they becomes eligible.
You can always ask and see if they'll help you out?
only a third party service can help. I used wejustunlock dot com to unlock my old galaxy s9 and it still run fine.
The Firmware on the Sprint Note 10 has to be an older one in order for it to be unlockable by most sites or services. If its got the latest firmware installed on it already your in for a waiting period from my experience fighting the same battle!
