I requested for an unlock code from AT&T and this is what I got back. This is the first time that my request was not honored. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper.
Big Thanks to “sanfranx415”. I followed his guide and got my Infuse unlocked.

You seriously need to learn to GOOGLE before you email AT&T
Pretty standard - AT&T won't provide unlock codes for devices until they've been out for a few months. I think the magic number may be either 6 or 9?
But it doesn't matter... Pulling unlock codes out of Samsung GalaxyS phones (and the Infuse is for all practical purposes a GS in terms of hardware and software architecture) is incredibly easy.
Do they normally provide these free? Like instead of song oneclick or something this.seems a little easier. Im going to be selling a iphone 4 would they send me a code?

iPhones are special cases, not sure.
However, usually if:
1) The phone has been out for 6+ months
2) You're a customer in good standing (e.g. bills all paid)
3) You've had the phone 90 days (I think that's the number)
They'll give you an unlock code if you ask. You often do better by calling international support and telling them you're traveling, that's how I unlocked my Tilt.
Easier to just pull the code from the Infuse though.
Congress passed a law that states they have to give you the sim unlock code as long a certain conditions are met. They normally have provided it if you have a business account and tell them you are going over seas for an extended period. As for the exclusive agreement, they may have been able to delay when they have to give it to you as they state. I would research the law to be sure. Or as stated above.....Google is Good...guud lol
To correct all. Any device that is exclusive to one carrier, does not have to be unlocked. Att policy is generally 6 to 9 months after release. Your account must be 6 months old or you will be required to provide proof of purchase. As of now, in all att systems, the infuse is listed as unlockable. These things will randomly change in time. If you want an unlock code, for an unlockable model, say it was purchased 2nd hand and you have no account. As long as the device is not reported lost or stolen, you will get the code.

bingo! I told them I needed it for overseas sims on my iPhone 4 and they said sure!! (You have to add international roaming on your plan, but there is no charge unless you go overseas and actually use it)

That's new - I didn't have to add international roaming. After all, that's the point of unlocking, to use another carrier when abroad.

Please fix your attitude or go away. I have yet to see a single post from you that hasn't been rude or offensive.
Have you used this way to unlock it

Unlock != root. Root allows you to run system level code on the device, while unlocking means removing the carrier lock which keeps the device tied to the network provider you bought it from - at least that's traditionally how it works.
Buy a phone from AT&T and it won't work on any other network by default if you were to put a competitor's SIM card in the device because it's "locked" to only work with AT&T's network, just as an example of what being locked means. Of course, providers are free to sell their devices completely unlocked but you end up paying full price for such devices - when the device is locked to a carrier they're under the hope that if you're "stuck" with them for the contract period (most likely the 2 year standard) that you being their customer for that length of time lets them recoup the cost of the phone that they paid so they could then sell it to you at a big discount and still make profit on top of that in the long run.
While I'm not going to tell anyone they should "break the law," I will saw that stupid immoral pointless laws are stupid, immoral, and pointless.
I want to get my phone unlocked to use with international networks. AT&T will not unlock it because it is still on contract. When I asked them if it was illegal to unlock it myself, the said they do not know. Does anyone know if it is okay to unlock your phone while it is on contract? Has anyone tried this?
I have the same question.
Sent from my Moto E
can't see how it could be "illegal", by law. I'd guess they just don't want to "help" you to that end. I'd do it if I were in you place and not think twice about it or the $4 it'll cost you.
They will unlock the phone, but I believe you have to fulfill the requirements of your contract first
Q: When is my device eligible for unlocking?
Your postpaid device is eligible to be unlocked by a participating provider after you have fulfilled the applicable service contract, completed the device installment plan or paid an early termination fee. Your prepaid device is eligible to be unlocked by a participating provider no later than one year after activation, consistent with reasonable time, payment, or usage requirements.

If anyone has ever dealt with sprint it is almost impossible to get their devices unlocked when you buy a used phone. Sprint requires the original buyers name or account number.
However aren't they violating the CTIA consumer code for wireless service?
From the CTIA website:
(2) Postpaid Unlocking Policy. Carriers upon request, will unlock mobile wireless devices or provide the necessary information to unlock their devices for their customers and former customers in good standing and individual owners of eligible devices after the fulfillment of the applicable postpaid service contract, device financing plan, or payment of applicable early termination fee.
Is sprint in violation of this part of the policy by not unlocking phones for anyone who owns a paid off sprint phone?
I have been with Verizon for 12 years but have had it with their incessant rate increases so I am moving over to T-Mobile. I am just waiting for the SIM cards to arrive. I know that carriers have their own modifications for the various android phones that they carry. I have Verizon stuff all over my phone and I know that they made modifications to call blocking to try and get customers to pay for their spam block service. When I port my phone to T-Mobile, what happens to all of that? Am I stuck with this being a Verizon phone forever?
You can hoy switch carriers online or in person. Once you've activated your new service, your old account should automatically cancel, but contact your previous provider to make sure. You'll receive a final bill, which may include an early termination fee if you're required to pay one
I am referring more to what happens to the phone. How does it get the new carrier’s software. How are updates handled. That kind of thing.
