sound focus not working. music plays from two players at once. - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

since last night my phone went whack and now when i unplug the aux or headphone cables the music keeps playing. when plugging in the poweramp starts playing and i go to spotify to play music and both are playing. i heard both songs for a minute while driving down the road till i finally had to pause poweramp. what gives? i rebooted the phone last night. it also played music with spotify when i made a phone call and i couldn't go to the screen to pause it because the screen kept flashing off everytime i tried to touch it to bring the player back up to pause it. kind of hard to hear my friend on the the phone with music playing. usually when making a call the player pauses on it's own and resumes after.

same here, software update is to blame imo...

it seems to be working fine by now, how about you @railfan-eric ?

It was Spotify and they added a new update after tons of threads and posts about this issue in the Spotify forums. I haven't tried it on my phone yet but the new update works on my tablet. I sideloaded an old version for the phone to temporarily fix the problem.

[Q] randomly playing weird guitar music

i just flashed the Android Revolution 5.1.3 rom today but the problem started even when i had 5.1.1.. it just randomly started playing this weird guitar music and it doesn't stop until i restart the phone. it happened again just a few minutes ago and this is after flashing the 5.1.3 update. unfortunately i'm still pretty new to the android OS so i don't know everything about it which is why i'm here asking you guys... i checked the "running services" page in the settings to see if there was anything that it could be coming from but i didn't see anything out of the ordinary. i even checked the stock ringtones to see if it happened to be one of the ringtones that was playing but i don't think it's any of those either. i really have no idea what is going on. it's not that big of a deal because i can just restart the phone to make it stop but i really don't want this to keep happening. does anybody know what this could be and maybe have some advice one how to prevent this from happening again?
Do you have the game called "farm story" installed?

I experienced this a few times from NinJump (game). When I would leave it running in the background rather than actually quitting the app, it would randomly start playing music sometimes
Yeah if you had farm story on it and had a notification in the bar it plays its theme song... lol I had to turn off the music in the game because it would start at anytime of the day or night anytime you had to do something on the game it played it lol.

strange.. i don't think i've ever heard the music in any of the games that i have. it hasn't happened all day though. hopefully it stays that way.

Anyone playing Words With Friends? Update issues? Multitasking related?

Am I the only one that plays this game with this phone or am I the only one with a problem?
I never get update notifications and even if I go into the game to play it won't give me updates if I haven't played in a while. I also have to repeatedly connect to FB to get the pictures back and then usually it'll update the games.
I haven't played on this phone but I never got them on my gnex.

Notifications not playing thru Bluetooth sync since JB?

Previously, while synced with Bluetooth to my car head unit and playing Muzak, if I got a text or email or coherent notification, the music would quiet and the sound would play. Now, the music quiets, but I don't hear the notification sound.
Any idea if this is by design? I can take it or leave it, since I am a hands off driver, but it was nice to know what sort if event happened by the sound it played.
One other thing: it used t pause the song when a call came thru, but now the song plays on. If I'm on the phone for a few minutes, then when I hang up the song might be over.

This is not by design. I never had this issue with any ROM, jelly bean or otherwise. Try a clean install of your ROM and try again.

Good to know! I have been getting my ducks in a row for root, since I have such a huge amount of data and settings on my phone, losing it when I unlock the bootloader would be sad. I just need to take the time to learn the best way to backup everything I need... beyond what Google backs up and what a non root backup grabs.

[PROBLEM] Headphone jack and speaker problem

So i have been using my htc One S since around christmas. In the beginning i noticed twice that the music didnt play through the headphones. I restarted the phone and everything was working fine. Now i have this problem that if I put in my speakers the music still keeps playing through the speakers. I tried the app SoundAbout by David Woods and set media output to headphones. When I play my music now it works through my headphones, but if i pull them out the music keeps playing through the headphone jack. Basically you dont hear anything, but the music doesnt pause. This app at least confirmed me that the headphone jack itself is still working, but I am wondering if there is something like a plug in/out detection that might be broken...
It was working fine till today afternoon. then I used Pimp My Rom to install some stuff.. including the Beats audio thing they have. After that my sound didnt work at all. so i restored from a nandroid and the speakers were functioning again. Then i freshly installed DeviantXone again... and thats where I am now... Please help me...

You should really have posted this in Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting. More experts who would be willing to help you would be there.
That is a peculiar problem. If you're using CyanogenMod 10, then that is normal. If you're on anything else, then I think your phone might have some software issues. Try an RUU. If that doesn't fix it, then it's hardware.

Playing flash-a-lot also broke my headphone/speaker detection. Even flashing new roms didn't help. Download an RUU and start again. It hasn't broken since.
Ok I figured I just restored fruition a viper nandroid..every thing works Joe.thanks anyways...

Bluetooth Music Choppy

Hey, got my U12 and within 12 hours looks like I might be returning it. Fantastic device Im very annoyed. Music through bluetooth to my car sounds a skipping cd. Anybody experiencing similar or any idea what to do? Changing parameters in the developer options doesn't seem to work.

No problems here with Bluetooth and Ford Sync 1.1 with latest software 5.11.

I saw in another thread that suggested going into developer options and switching Bluetooth AVRCP to v1.4 instead of 1.5. Did you try that one too?
Ya tried that, it's less severe but still happening. Iv isolated it to vw head units i think.
I was having a similar issue with my Bluetooth headphones. It kept cutting in and out while my headphones worked fine with my iPhone.
I'll be using my headphones again this evening so lets see if it happens again and if I can get more details.
I've had no problem with it in a Toyota Yaris. Also no problems with BT headphones - it's even a bit better than the U11 BT, which used to skip now & again. Had to set BT to 1.4 for full control in the car.

Maybe VW has been updating their software and you could drive by a dealership to update or do it yourself. Since Oreo came out I also had problems with BT. No media info was shown. The problem seems to be Oreo 8.0. In 8.1 Google solved some of these problems.
Since Ford brought out an update everything works fine now. Hopefully Android P has covered all these bugs.

Brand new car though. I might make a phone call about it all the same.

Found some solutions on Google that you could try out:
Settings>Apps>Application list>... >show system apps>Bluetooth>force stop, then clear data.
If this doesn't work, remove the pairing, repeat above and redo the pairing.
Or
Reset Network settings fixes the Bluetooth problem after Oreo Update. Settings > Backup & Reset > Network Settings Reset and everything works like charm.
Or
Change of Bluetooth Audio Codec (Settings -> Advanced -> Bluetooth Audio Codec) from SBC to aptX seemingly fixed it.
Hope one of them helps. Good luck!

I have also experienced this with my VW. I listen to audio books mostly and every so often a word drops out and it gets annoying.
Iv just had to switch to using the aux. Awful annoying, brand new phone and brand new car and ****ing bluetooth doesn't work properly.
I still connect to the bluetooth for calls only which has created a side problem too where if I get a call its not sending the sound through the bluetooth by default i need to manually select it.

Re: Bluetooth music choppy
Thank you phxzy , all!! Having the same annoying issues with my HTC U12 Plus Bluetooth in my car. Maps misses a lot of verbal directions and music is horrible.
Thanks for the many suggestions!! I'll try them this weekend!!
I just have some cheap BT device I found at a local discount store but I only occasionally have the choppiness. When it happens it's like the audio continues and I miss a few seconds of the audio. My main issue is more that it stops the playback altogether. It doesn't seem to disconnect just the playback stops/pauses and has to be restarted. This whole time I've been under the impression that it's the player/app but I'll try some of the advice given here and see if I can get it to improve. Thanks
