Note 7's death is good news for S7 users - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Discussion

I think with note 7 being taken off market, S7/S7edge are now again samsung flagships and until S8 gets out, samsung will hopefully pay more attention to S7 users. Maybe we get faster software updates?

Nope, they will focus on the S8 to make sure it's quality control is near perfect.

To be honest, as a S7 edge user, I never felt abandoned by Samsung.
Before that S7, I had a Xperia Z5 and it was horrible. Awful outdated software, non-existent security updates, bugs that persisted for months without a proper fix, Sony denying issues MANY users were reporting on the official support forum, etc.

The hardware people will be focusing on the S8 now which leaves the software people free to hopefully update the S7

Yeah I agree with you strongly. Because S7 and N7 match each other in hardware Samsung was trying to let us buy N7 because of its upgraded firmware and it Intentionally delays this upgrade to S7. Now the game rules have changed

Anyone excited about Galaxy S5?

MWC is starting in a couple of days and if tradition is followed, Samsung shall launch the next Galaxy soon.
Too many reports suggest that the latest device shall have a whole different UI, fingerprint sensor in the home button, 16mp camera and also a new LED flash module.
I, for one, am looking forward to seeing the features in action. Agreed, the development on Sammy devices sucks, specially Exynos, but hey, I can't deny the fact that they make the best phones too.
What say you?

I say it's a completely useless thread.
No it's not useless!
To be honest I'm getting tired of the yearly releases for the sake of it. From the leaks it looks like the S5 will have a qHD screen, fingerprint reader, and the usual upgraded processor and ram. Probably a 64 bit OS but if you know a bit about 32/64bit you'll know it's pointless and just for marketing.
The fingerprint reader is also pointless. Again Samsung are doing it just because apple did and don't have access to the same quality solution. The iPhone solution works really well. Which pains me to say. But Sammy's swipe solution is just going to take longer to unlock and is the same fad that laptops went through 5 years ago. Only business laptops come with fingerprint readers nowadays.
Lastly is the OS. I don't feel that Samsung adds any value with their touchwiz extras. My phone has had Cyanogenmod installed from about 3 months in and I've started to think it's going the way of touchwiz and not adding any value.
I'm running the Nexus 5 ROM with xposed and that gives me all the features and modifications I need. Xposed is the real game changer here. The only problem is the stability. The S4 running a Nexus 5 ROM is never going to be as stable as the Nexus 5. The Nexus 5 is a faster device then the S4 and the battery life is far, far better. I now have one as my work phone and part of me is hoping the S5 doesn't have any ground breaking features that makes me want it. I'll then buy a Nexus 5 and lower my mobile contract saving some money in the process.
The Nexus 5 may not have a qHD display but within 6-9 months the Nexus 6 will with a more mature processor and better battery life. Until the Galaxy has a bleeding edge feature I don't see the point in having a bleeding edge device. And it doesn't look like the S5 will
^ You know there's a diff between qHD and QHD right? qHD is quarter-HD while QHD is Quad-HD, the S5 may have the latter IF rumors are true.
Anyway...
I'm very excited, I'm going to get it in either March or April, looking forward to the new UI, Camera and Exynos CPU, I'm also looking forward to a new design, I hope it's a stunner (fingers crossed).
Will use my GS4 as a 2nd line when I get my GS5.
I'll only be excited (related to xda topics) when I'm able to kick out Knox from my phone

Next phone? Maybe LG or Motorola ( depending of what they can do after s5 release)

1. KNOX
2. Exynos
3. Touchwiz
Hell no...buying S4 is one of most biggest regret. Next phone? Probably LG or Sony or OPPO

I am with you because of Exynos but i think LG plays only with numbers and names. For example S4 and G2 both have GPS but nobody say that G2 takes 2-3 mins to find ~10 sats and ours S4 takes 2-3 seconds to find 15+ sats! poor GPS chip or poor software i don`t know.
Another example is WiFi-Direct. both have it but in G2 you can only use it with LG devices.
I think that LG is still not a good buy.

I think it's unarguable that Samsung offers cutting edge hardware. If only they had a better software design team. Honestly speaking, I'd much rather use a Snapdragon variant over exynos because of lack of development.

I agree that Samsung are at the cutting edge but that edge is not longer very far ahead. Other companies are already producing QHD displays and phones with finger print readers. You're right about the Exynos processor. As awesome as it maybe there's a lack of community support and so far Europe has only had the Qualcomm offering. I don't mind this as once again the Qualcomm offering isn't hugely different.
Please don't think I'm complaining or trashing Samsung here. I think the whole smartphone development has slowed down over the past 2 years since the S3.

[Q] No Love

I have the Note Edge through Verizon, and I have seen numerous ads for the S6 and S6 Edge coming out. Just wondering why the Note Edge seems to be non existent. There seems to be no love for this amazing device that started it all.
Because people are stupid, preferring a shiny, blingy, phone without expandable storage or a removable battery to the more functional Note Edge.

Because Samsung never advertised the Note Edge. They stuck all their eggs in one basic with the Note 4.
That's too bad. Hopefully when people get their hands on the S6 edge, they'll realize that there's also a note edge out there.

To be honest, I am disturbed and disappointed by Samsung's disowning of the edge. No advertising, limited good accessories, lack of developer support - from third party players AND samsung. I have never bought a premium phone that was supported as little as this. I have honestly stopped coming to this forum because there has been nothing of significance happening. No ROMS, no panels, no accessories. Ok, its not NOTHING but it is beyond scarce. I think the edge is one of the most innovative and best phones I ever owned. I get it, we were test dummies for the s6 edge. If there is no removable battery and sd card in the edge 2 I will switch to another phone maker come the fall.

so is T-Mobile which is the variant i own. there is basically 2 roms, and one of them has been abandoned since mid December. If you are looking for development this is not the device to get, i think because it was released after the Note 4, without a concrete release date, and the talk of limited availability that a lot of buyers/developers went with the Note 4 instead. i am personally going to switch to the Note 4 soon, and wait and see what the Note edge 2 and Note 5 develops into.
would be nice with with a note 4 rom, nobody porting those here?
i am wondering if i should take edge or note 4... little scary with lack of support tho... dont have time to play so much with the roms lately...

Get Galaxy S7 now OR Wait for the Galaxy S8

Hi guys,
I was wondering, should I buy the Galaxy S7 now or should I wait until March for the Galaxy S8 ?
* Pros about changing now :
- To me the S7 is the best 2016 android phone.
- I have an old Galaxy Alpha, still pretty decent but suffers a bit due to the age (laggy sometimes). He is still running the Kitkat official ROM since Lollipop was garbage on him.
- I got this mobile for 2 years now. I'm getting sick of it.
* Pros about waiting until the release of the S8:
- The recent rumours about the Galaxy S8 are amazing (specs, innovations).
- The S8 will be a monster, if I get the S7 now and 4 months later the S8 "destroys" him in everything, I will be disapointed
1- Should I wait quietly until the release of the Galaxy S8 or buy a Galaxy S7 today ?
2- How much can I sell the Galaxy S7 when the Galaxy S8 will be out ?
One solution could be : to get the S7 now, then selling it in order to buy the S8.. But I don't want to loose much money by doing this....
In my country I can get a S7 for 500-550€ now, I hope i could sell 400€ in March, so I can purchase the S8.
Have a nice day, and thanks for answering !
PS : Sorry for my english boyz !
Would you pay 400€ for a Galaxy S7, which is older than five months, when there is a Galaxy S8?

Me no, but not everybody is geeky like me, always looking for the last tech, I know a bunch of people wich would buy an S7 at 400€ rather than S8 at ~800€ .
You're in the same situation that i'm in, but dude just wait - The Galaxy S8 not that too far away from us, we started to get a huge amount of rumors + That phone going to be a beast! .. so if you want to feel a _new phone_ *wait*.

S8 might be delayed while they investigate the N7 battery problems, they wouldn't want it happening again
i would prefer to go with S7.
S8 may be a monster, but how much power i may need in real life?
more over S7 is a proven device (no battery fire!!)with good bargain deal.

Maybe but I really don't think they would miss the Mobile World Congress (27 Feb - 2 March) to present their new phone (as usual). To me, in the worst scenario, the S8 will be avaible for us by the end of March.
At the best, around mid March.

Possible, but hoping it will happen doesn't necessarily make it true, if what I've been reading is true, Samsung still don't know the cause of the battery problems, so they're not gonna manufacture millions more devices that might have the same fault
Unless they get to the bottom of it soon, and are 110% sure it's fixed, expect delays

Don't worry mate, I will purchase a Galaxy. The main question was about waiting or not. S7 now or S8 later ? Like selling the S7 to get S8 without loosing / wasting too much money (by being impatient xD)
Well it all comes down to how much you are willing to pay for it. The s7 is cheap now and the s8 is still months away because it will come out in march 2017 and they you will pay a premium price. So if i was you i would go for the s7 then get the s8 around this time next year when its came down in price.

Wait and save up, then you have more cash for phone accessories.
Thanks for your answer guys !
The poll is tied ! 4 votes to buy now - 4 votes to wait xD
Had to tie the poll up again at 5 to 5, because I agree that you should get the S7 now. I got my S7 about a month after launch and it has been incredibly solid, plus it had already dropped $100 from the launch price in that month. I love bleeding edge tech as well and I love to tinker, but with the amount we rely on our phones I personally like to grab something new that has already been proven reliable with an established development community. The S7 fit that bill perfectly within a month of release. After the Note fiasco and the ever increasing push for more locked down devices, the S8 is a big unknown right now as for the direction Samsung will go with it. With the success of the S7, I would guess that the resale value once the S8 is out will be relatively solid in comparison to the last couple phones in the S series. Just my two cents on the matter, but when it comes to our gadget obsessions, we're all different. Best of luck deciding!

Which phone you had before the S9+ ?

Was it worth it ?
The S8+. Of all the phones I've owned that was the first one I've ever broken the screen. So yes, the upgrade to the S9+ was worth it
Short of that though... I don't know. While the upgrades from the S8 were noticeable, if you have to pay full retail for it I don't think it would be worth it. The S8 is a great phone.
unnecessary thread and thus also discussion. for whom will this be useful?
I had the LG G5 and YES. It was absolutely worth the 900 bucks. The G5 is a pile of garbage and I had sworn off galaxy phones after the garbage that is TouchWiz but damn this S9+ really appealed to me. Bought it, love it, will never leave it.

Yep that's because there was no phone that was impressive or worth the upgrade throughout the years. Nexus 6 IMO is still the best community developer friendly device today (aside from oneplus 5t) it's almost 4 years old and the xda nexus 6 forums are still strong today and filled with many ROMs compared to other phones. The front facing speakers (using Dolby & viper4android) still beats the quality of the S9+ (with Dolby enabled and configured to my liking). But of course I love the S9+ performance which is why I'm stuck to it like glue lol.
Note 5. Honestly not much difference.

Petition: Give Android 11 for S9+!

Samsung said that all flagships after and including the S10 will get 3 years of Android OS updates. It's a bit unfair for us Note9 and S9 users so I created a petition to Samsung asking them to reconsider adding the S9, S9+ and Note9 to the 3 year major updates support program as well. Here's the link: https://www.change.org/p/samsung-give-android-11-oneui-3-0-to-galaxy-note9-s9-phones
The more people that sign it the better chance we have of Samsung acknowledging it!

It's my first time doing any petition so I thought the goal would update once the 100 are reached (if at all)
And according to GSMArena the regular S9 has 4GB RAM: https://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s9-8966.php
I wrote that as that's the minimum RAM of a version from the series.
Edit: So it does auto-update? https://help.change.org/s/article/Changing-your-signature-goal?language=en_US
Can't find a change signatures number option in the Edit menu of the petition nor a place where I set a number when creating a new one.

I know it's a stretch. Just made the petition as another xda user requested one + it was fun exploring how it works. I'm happy with 2.5 too, all I want is wireless DeX.
The Galaxy Note 10 Lite has the same Exynos processor.
It's just a matter of waiting for Android 11 to be released on the Note 10 and there will be a port of it

The more people that sign it the better chance we have of Samsung acknowledging it!

i dont think samsung will hear us user's of s9+ since most of other people moved ono and buy new samsung's flahship phone either the s10 s20 and just release s21 line up, or maybe some who opted to use iphone instead. sad to see as thisi is going now where, i have signed the petition as well but all i see is only 2.5k signed.. i dont think thats going to be enough to move samsung's, though to be honest back then i was only using the galaxy note N7000, completely rooted nad apply so many mods, it was fun back then, hence i upgrade to the note 3 N9005, that was when i stopped for a brief to not rooting and modding , just few year back i purchased my s9+ back when the price is still overly priced. this s9+ was good only on my region we couldnt get the snapdragon chipset yet stuck with this poorly ecynos chipsets.. well still runs way better then the n7000 & n9005 i guess

I think a lot of people are moving to the Iphone. Because at least all their phones get updated no matter how old they are.. My wife and daughters use to have Android, but long since moved the Apple Iphone instead.
