I have the Note Edge through Verizon, and I have seen numerous ads for the S6 and S6 Edge coming out. Just wondering why the Note Edge seems to be non existent. There seems to be no love for this amazing device that started it all.
Because people are stupid, preferring a shiny, blingy, phone without expandable storage or a removable battery to the more functional Note Edge.

Because Samsung never advertised the Note Edge. They stuck all their eggs in one basic with the Note 4.
That's too bad. Hopefully when people get their hands on the S6 edge, they'll realize that there's also a note edge out there.

To be honest, I am disturbed and disappointed by Samsung's disowning of the edge. No advertising, limited good accessories, lack of developer support - from third party players AND samsung. I have never bought a premium phone that was supported as little as this. I have honestly stopped coming to this forum because there has been nothing of significance happening. No ROMS, no panels, no accessories. Ok, its not NOTHING but it is beyond scarce. I think the edge is one of the most innovative and best phones I ever owned. I get it, we were test dummies for the s6 edge. If there is no removable battery and sd card in the edge 2 I will switch to another phone maker come the fall.

Some carriers have root. Lack of marketing is the main cause this phone never took off like it should have.

so is T-Mobile which is the variant i own. there is basically 2 roms, and one of them has been abandoned since mid December. If you are looking for development this is not the device to get, i think because it was released after the Note 4, without a concrete release date, and the talk of limited availability that a lot of buyers/developers went with the Note 4 instead. i am personally going to switch to the Note 4 soon, and wait and see what the Note edge 2 and Note 5 develops into.
would be nice with with a note 4 rom, nobody porting those here?
i am wondering if i should take edge or note 4... little scary with lack of support tho... dont have time to play so much with the roms lately...

I currently have the galaxy s3. I am supposed to get the note 2 as alternate replacement and it might sound like a no brainer. But I have invented almost 100 dollars into accessories fir the s3. Is the note 2 really worth it to lose all my stuff. This thread is NOT meant to "rub it in" or anything like that. I just really want your input.

Honestly it's personal preference. I don't need or want a 5.5 inch screen on my phone because 4.8 is enough for me.
The Note has some limitations that can't be overlooked like the enormous size that makes one hand operation almost impossible but when you're browsing, it yields the best experience that rivals any android tablet. The new s pen looks like a huge bonus with enhanced functionalities but since it is very new, you cant expect new roms.

If you can sell your $100 worth of accessories for anything more than $50 go for the Note 2, you wont be able to peel your eyes away from that big beautiful screen. If you can't sell it and it'll collect dust in your house, keep the S3.
IMO its not worth it to switch. If you didn't have the S3, then I'd say go for the Note, but the differences are limited, unless you want an even bigger screen and you like to use the pen

How did you manage to get Note 2 as a replacement? Warranty replacement?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
That's really a tough question to answer. I would personally stick with the GS3 having spent that much money, and my personal experience with this phone has been fantastic. Now if you aren't happy with the GS3, and the Note 2 being as large as it is, is appealing to you, then I would go for it. Not very often you get a free upgrade from one almost brand new device to the next big thing.
A 5.5" phone is way too big IMO. The S3 is a perfect size and I refuse to use a 5"+ device up to my ear lol. I already have a tablet in the N7 so no thanks on the Note 2.

I, too, have spent over $100 on accessories, but in the end... I think you and I both with end up enjoying the experience on a 5.5 inch screen. I believe the Jelly Bean, the quad core, and S Pen will be more than enough to see the difference.
Four cases and a car dock later, I can't wait to move to the Note 2, personally. I just hope the same problems that plague me on the S3 don't happen on the Note!
Also, when you say "lose your stuff", do you mean the stuff on the phone, or do you mean the accessories? If it's the stuff on your phone, just make sure you use titanium backup to the SD card (not to the phone). If it's the accessories, at least now you know what you like with the trial and error on the S3. Five tries to find a case that I liked was worth it for me... Amazon prime takes the sting out of most of these purchases. Also, I am probably one of the few who will tell you this, but I love the GLAS protector from Spigen. (again, tried a lot before I found one I loved!)

There's a group of us that live in areas where cell towers are not playing well with the S3, causing a NO SIM error. It hasn't been fixed yet, even with software updates direct from Verizon. After documenting my problems quite thoroughly via 2nd level tech support, I finally ended up with a manager who agreed to move me to the Note 2 once it is released. (50 calls later) The only fix, currently, is to pull the battery. (lots of old wives tales floating around tho... none of which work) I take that back, I was on a business trip to Salt Lake City for 2.5 weeks, and had zero issues... so there's that.
I am kinda on the fence. I really want the quad core but since it's 4 a9's vs my s3's 2 a15's the real difference in power isn't really very much. So it comes down to screen size and the s Pen.

I personally am looking into getting a S3 then switching to the Note II next month when it's released. Prices for the S3 are still high, selling for at least $450-$480 on swappa.com; so you can consider that. For me a quad core beats a dual core any day, and we all know the Note II has way more features. People aren't going to want to root and change ROMS right out the gate anyway so the dev support doesn't really matter.
Yes. Alternate replacement.

Thanks for input. The thing I am most worried about after thinking about it, is the note 2 having the exact same "NO SIM" issue the s3 has. Because if it turns out to have this problem it is really a waste.

I'd disagree with this statement. I actually hold off on a phone until it has root. I have a lot of apps which I have saved data and won't switch until I can use titanium backup to bring my data with me to my new phone. Plus devs are always making mods that make my stock even better and the ability to debloat is always good. I'm in the process of getting my wife a new phone because her Inc4g has no root and it's not looking good for it to ever achieve it.
Depends how big your hand is haha. But seriously people complain about the s3 being too large so if that is an issue for you the note is even bigger. But from a standpoint of performance the note 2 is faster than the vzw s3, but looks to be similar in speed to the international s3. Dev support will be available, a lot of devs are excited about this device. Personally I would go with the note because I can handle a larger phone no problem and love the big screen size.

Any news on availability?
Will this phone have a screen protector? how should it applied to a curved screen? and most importantly will it get an AOSP Rom? of course a proper which uses the curved screen?
I'm teetering back and forth on what to get. I'll need to see some reviews before I can make an informed decision. With that being said I'm leaning towards the Note 4 at the moment.
I want it badly !!
Worst information, that Edge will be available only in several markets. I've read on sammobile about Singapour, Korea, US, Spain and Australia.
It will be available in the US an all major carriers.
And I'm probably going to get it as long as developer support is there. Even if it's not as prevalent as established devices.
I'm a cutting edge kind of guy and this is definitely my style.
I've been waiting for this device every since the first picture was released but after finding out VR only works with the Note 4, Edge isn't for me anymore.

Me too. I am sure there will be some good pre-launch deals but I would like to get my hands on one first to see if it's suitable, if not definitely the Note 4... but when?!!
I'm still on my Note II and I don't see any good reason to go for the Note 4, but I'd definitely consider the edge simply for it's uniqueness.
But ONLY if it gets rooted and ROM'd.
Speaking of which, someone please tell me the makers of DN3 are working on porting the Note 4's Touchwiz back to Note II! :fingers-crossed:

I think I want the edge too. If nothing else if development is not there, in 6 months I'll just get something else or just live with stock . It just seems too "cutting edge" to pass up. Note 4 is great but a little something different in form would be nice for a change.
I am really leaning towards the Edge, it just looks so cool (yes I'm shallow) and 64gb memory doesn't hurt. I'm going to wait until I can play with both phones, though. I'm not in a big hurry, my Note 2 is still going strong. Rather take some time to make my choice.
I want one badly but I'm afraid Samsung won't release a Dev. Edition Edge for us Verizon guys.
I'm afraid I'm going to have to choose between a Dev. Edition Note 4 or a locked Note Edge :crying:
I want one to but it's being said around other sites that it going to cost us almost a $1000.00. What are your thoughts.
Potentially Unique and Useful Device
I too have a Note II and it is great device. I'll probably get an Edge on Sprint contract if the price is not ridiculous. If it is, I'll probably seriously consider the IPhone 6 Phablet. The Edge has the opportunity to be a truly unique device with the help of XDA Developers.
I definitely will buy one, it s soooo sexy!!
Inviato dal mio SM-N9005 utilizzando Tapatalk
I'm definitely buying one BUT I won't get one of the first shipment of orders, I'll wait until the xda development is established because I already know that the AT&T version will have a locked bootloader.

I love the new technology. I to wonder how much support there will be for the device The fact that the powerful specs of the Note 4 are under the hood are even a more compelling reason to grab this device.
I think the Note Edge will be great, but theoretically it should slightly underperform compared with the Note 4 because a single processor will be powering 2 screens.
I will most likely buy this device... (I am a hardcore **** Galaxy Note Fan... but... but...
I will buy the Galaxy Note 4 first for sure (first day it hits the store, without doubt... same as I did with Note 2 & Note 3... got Note 1 after about 2 months it was released)... (T-Mo Version) because it will most likely have root, unlocked bootloader and all the things we all love... and... then when the Edge comes... I will wait a week or 2... as soon as I see that it can be rooted and some dev support... I will end up buying this one too... have them both coexist for a month more or less and see how things go with each device... (development support, roms, etc...) and after a month maybe 2... will finally decide who is the lucky winner... (the looser... I will sell on ebay)
that's my story...
after seeing a video review of the Note Edge, i'm not so sure about it anymore for one main reason - one handed use. because of the screen on the right side, apparently its very difficult to use with your right hand without accidentally activating and/or pressing something on that screen. I'm a heavy one-handed/right-handed user on all my phones and this is a big deal.
I guess I'll have to get used to using both hands (of course its required when it comes to using the stylus)
Here's my dilemma.... I have a s6 edge rooted and running a custom Rom. I never had the edge but I had the S6 with root and without. I can honestly say root did nothing performance wise for me, the phone worked great both ways. Yes I would prefer a rooted phone but with the debloat tool you can disable (hide) any app on the phone without root, foxfi works for tethering and themes are built in. If it's the bigger screen you want and don't mind loosing root it's a fair trade. Value wise I would say you are getting the better deal because the Note is worth more and it's newer.

You make some valid points. I think I'm going to stick with my rooted edge and here's why.
1. Adaway, I hate adds especially on certain apps.
2. Flashfire, I have the ability to flash roms. I'm running a custom Rom now that seriously increased the overall feel and speed of my phone.
3. I included the ram tweak which resolved the ram management issue.
4. I can flash custom themes!! Yes Samsung has a theme store, but it doesn't compete with akonda theme (yes that is spelled right)
5. My battery life is equal to the note 5 print screens I've seen posted on xda.
6. I really plan in buying the new nexus because I miss the dev community. Plus I love having a phone that works for any carrier 100%.
Don't get me wrong, if the note 5 for Verizon magically gets root I will buy the phone cash same day

It definitely sounds like the Note 5 isn't the ideal phone for you. It for sure won't satisfy the crack flasher in you lol. For me I'm happy where I am, between all the phones I've switched to lately and all the ROMs I made I burnt myself out for a while. Just this year I went through a bunch of phones. I'm right there with you bother lol, I've had this year alone note 4, note edge, nexus 6, iPhone 6 plus, and now s6 edge. I think by far the biggest selling point of any phone is the ability to use the phone on all the big U.S carriers. I've also been struggling with switching to T-Mobile. Call customer service and tell them you are going to switch. I did and I ended up getting $30.00 off my monthly bill yesterday and when my three contracts run out soon it will be an additional $25.00 off every month per line. If you are not on it it's the customer loyalty plan. I'm only on a 4 gig plan but we hardly use one so it's plenty for us. Either way i would call them I was at $235 or so every month. I did look into T-Mobile but it isn't worth it. After the equipment charges for the new phones and insurance the savings would have only been $10 a month and inferior coverage. If you own your own phones and get good service with them it might be worth it. Cricket was a good option for me too but Verizon beat their price.

Thanks for sharing those reasons. I have been struggling with the same question ... S6 Edge or the Note 5. Was leaning towards the Note 5 because of the 4GB of system RAM and S-Pen, but I am concerned about the RAM management issues so many people have reported. Being as locked down as the VZW version is, there is no way to fix the issue without waiting for Samsung to fix it. The extra RAM becomes pointless if you can take advantage of it.
I didn't realize that you could run custom ROMs on the Verizon S6 Edge. I knew there was root but didn't realize you could flash a recovery and install custom ROMs. That would be a big reason to go for the S6 Edge in my opinion. Especially since Root access would let me fix the Ram issues as you have done. Would you happen to have a link to the thread that showed you how to install the custom ROMs for the S6 Edge? Thanks!

Especially since Root access would let me fix the Ram issues as you have done. Would you happen to have a link to the thread that showed you how to install the custom ROMs for the S6 Edge? Thanks!

So there's a choir items to address.
1. You have to be on firmware oe2 or lower in order to root. You will never be able to upgrade your firmware or root will be lost, probably forever...
2. You can find the information in the Verizon s6 edge development thread.
3. I ended up trading for the note 5 because it's worth more in eBay right now, bigger screen, spen, and the bottomline it's running newer firmware.
Since Foxfi and adguard work extremely well the note 5 will hold me over until the nexus huawei comes available. I'm done with lock bootloaders and receiving slow updates

Do you notice any memory management issues with the Note 5?

No it appears the extra gig of ram help deal with that issue.

Ok, don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan, at all of any Apple device. I had Apple when they were actually Cool, the original 2G, 3G 3GS and 4. Then, its a mix of rehashes and more and more catching up. Bit damn Samsung, WHY??????
2 quick example. Gear S2. Fantastic watch, after all after like what 6 or 7 tries, they finally got an amazing device. And yet, S-Voice will recognize the command "remind me to call Fred at 2pm" but will deny you any freaking reminder. Why is it so hard for Samsung to put some finishing touches where little things count.
Also, why don't we have a darn stock sleep monitor? Why would I pay a 3rd party dev to do this, and worst part, it doesn't even integrate with S-Health.
Samsung, you need to start working of the finer things in life. The S7 edge is an other frustrating example. Such a gorgeous phone, I have one, i hated the s6 edge, but this one, its a piece of art. And im sure it will be one of the best selling phone in the past few years. But everything that makes the S7 edge special, is basically the edge right? well then look in the edge apps, and find the same dev selling like 60% of the edge panels, in the entire store, for 2$, that basically emulates functions Samsung should have already had. Edge feeds, there are 2. 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If apple did this, there would probably already have at least 1000. Don't believe me? The Apple watch is a piece of garbage, and yet it has 50x more apps then the 7th edition of the Samsung watch.
Within 2 years, if they wanted, they could rule the entire planet and upsell any other oem 5 to 1. But, i feel like they don't want that, they just want to get by, just enough to stay above the rest of Android, and let apple keep selling boring phones that keep taking market share from them.
Sorry about my rant. I love you Samsung, i'm loyal, but **** has to change.
P.S. Its time for you to take carriers by the neck and IMPOSE UPDATES. There is no reason the same exact device half way around the world in Poland or something gets the new android half a year before the most important market in the world.

One thing I will say in Samsung's defense is that at least the apps we do have available for the Gear S2 load within 2-3 seconds. When I had the Apple Watch I gave up on 3rd party apps because they'd take so long to load that I'd end up just taking out my phone.
Yes. But it's also tge 7th gen. Or close. Although between the first gear and the apple watch, i do think the first gear was miles ahead with tge IR and camera

The apple watch is the worst attempt if apple at anything. Its really is bad with itz 3/4 day battery life and lag

Tried all of the smartwatches and the Apple Watch seemed to be the only one that was actually something one could even use on a daily basis - the Samsung Gear S2 was just awful. Wasn't prepared for it either as I thought the Gear S2 would be the best with the Apple Watch coming dead last, but that wasn't the case. Would even take an Android Wear watch any day of the week over the Gear S2. Imho Samsung should create a more advanced fitness-band to compete with the Fitbit, with S-Voice/Google-Voice integration.
Ok. That's one opinion. My friend that works at apple, hardcore fan sold his after 2 months. Hes just waiting for the ios compatibility to get the s2. Honestly i had the apple watch i borrowed it from him and its fat, clunky, not comfortable to sleep with, and unlike the gear s2 which does 4 days, it barely got me from 7am to 7pm

I have a Gear S2 and a Moto 360 2nd gen, and absolutely LOVE the S2.
It is fast as heck, I get 2-3 days battery life easily, love the rotary dial, and find the apps easy to use...

I just got the S7E, I'm curious what good apps there are for the edge displays? The stock Samsung ones are nothing special.

Go to the Galaxy Apps store, select "Exclusives", then scroll down a bit until you get to Edge Specials.
Yep, I looked i there, but there's only a couple. I thought the OP was saying there are good ones in the Play store.

To me, if you think it should have been in the device as stock, you think it's a positive thing.
But anyway, I'm not here to argue over a small point.

You ignore a critical parts of this rant. "Great devices, with great flaws." Thats the subject here. And i'm talking about flaws made by choice, not because of a hardware or battery life problem.
The part you ignore is "The S7 edge is an other frustrating example.......go to apps store (and so on)" I'm saying this is the s7 EDGE. And whats more about the edge? whats the potential, 8 panels, 6 of them made by the same unimaginative dev that takes stock apps and puts them on the side and charges 2$ for them
Get it now?
I don't see the point at posting a rant at Samsung on an unaffiliated hacking forum that has nothing to do with Samsung

So you want Samsung to have stock edge panels that a developer has that you don't think are any good?
I joke, looking at some of the edge panels available for download, I absolutely agree it's ridiculous to charge for them after people have just paid so much for the phone.
Hello guys I just wanted to get a better feel of how everyone else feels right now and in particular to the Galaxy S7 as well as s7 Edge on T-Mobile having a locked bootloader making root extremely difficult to get if not impossible. This was upsetting to me not because I wanted the S7 and S7 Edge but because this set a precedent for the Note 6 which is not yet released. I started my Journey with a Galaxy Note 2 and loved them ever since. I have very large hands so I definitely needed a large phone and I really quite liked the size and features. I then got the Note 4 and was certainly happy with it for over a year. I usually only hold onto phones for a short while but that phone did pretty much everything for me so I held onto it a while. Samsung announced the Note 5 and I decided to pass due to no more SD Card so I now needed to opt for at least 64gb and no IR blaster. So I decided I wouldn’t be getting that and would look at other options. I began my hunt and ultimately one of the few phones that met my standards was the Nexus 6P since it had a 5.7-inch screen which was Amoled and had a very good camera and I decided to try out stock Android since everyone always raves of its speed and updates. Plus, root on the 6P would be easy.
Anyway the 6P has been doing fine but the battery does leave a lot to be desired (I feel touchwiz does very well with its battery optimizations). Camera is also slightly better due to speed and manual controls as well as screen brightness. The next phone on my radar is the Note 6 but with the no root precedent I’m fairly concerned. To sum it up I feel we don’t have many 5.7 inch or larger phone options out there and was wondering what devices will you guys be looking at as Note competitors especially if the new Note 6 from, T-Mobile cant be rooted? It seems manufacturers like LG and HTC are not really coming out with Note competitors and if they do they are basterdized in some fashion (like lower specs and cameras). Just makes you wonder if they are not interested in the market.
Well, from what I know lg is doing seem. V10 just got an update that apparently locked down the phone. Can't even go down to lollipop if you took the MM update...I will say you should hold onto that nexus, rest of the flashaholics and root lovers will join you soon. Lol
But to answer original post, yes that is now the norm going forward.
Gotta see t-mobile Samsung devices locked up one more time to tell.

Yes, I would agree, one more locked Samsung from Tmobile will confirm, but I would be very surprised if it came UNlocked...

This will be really sad if so. Nexus devices are fine but sometimes dont bring all the best features. If the phone is less than 5.7 inches and no Amoled its a non start for me. Liked the HTC 10 but 5.2 inch screen is no go for me lol.
