N915A reboot daily after recent update - Note Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Note Edge N915A reboots daily after updated to N915AUCS2DPH7. Anyone else having the same problem?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N915A using XDA-Developers mobile app

Same problem here and it seems to be getting more frequent. I just got my phone this weekend and updated to Marshmallow right away. I did a factory reset after the update, hoping that would eliminate issues like this. I do have the Samsung flip wallet case installed and I have encrypted the phone (a requirement for my work email). Any chance you have either of these things in common?

No. My phone is neither scripted or has a wallet cover. Apparently, it is related to the latest update!

Mine too. I was disappointed because my girl has the S7 Edge and he icons were different. My icons didn't change which was the only reason I did the update.

It seems there's no particular app that triggers it. It just reboots randomly! We'll see when they start exploding. Samsung sucks.

Remove it and see if it helps, since you updated the firmware, most probably that's the cause, flash back previous firmware? Other known issue is faulty battery and fingerprint lock

I got today 09:16 a random reboot and looked as fast as possible after reboot a log. See attachment and look at 09:16
I think Smart Manager causes the problem. Maybe this is the problem related to battery issue because smart manager also logging battery statistics. I removed knox, smart manager and any other bloatware. After 9hours usage i did not get any reboots for now. Let see if it work continuesly without reboot.

[ Q ] Friend just rooted my phone. Browser annoyance. One finger zoom?????

A friend rooted my phone today since i don't know how. He said he left its rooted but nothing is flashed as far as roms. While browsing on my web now something very annoying is happening. Wether in landscape or portrait mode if i drag my finger on the edge of the screen on either side in zooms in and out instead of scrolling....is there a function that turns this off. It is driving me crazy.
Rooting wouldnt cause that to happen. What browser are you using? the stock one?
I believe it's a function under the motion settings
Sent from my VS920 4G using xda app-developers app
Yes i am using the stock browser. I did not see anything in the motion settings that revolves around what is happening. I also did not see anything in the browser settings that enables/disables it either.
The edge zooms in and out while touching the middle scrolls up and down. Tapping the screen also zooms in and out.

I dl the official jellybean update when it officially came out from vzw. I was not rooted then and i did not notice this at all. I only noticed it today after i was rooted. It is really annoying as my fingers mostly scroll along the edges of the screen. I use pinch to zoom and double tap. Is there a way to take it off? It is driving me nuts.
No you can't take it off as you can not change how an app uses a smartphone's touch functions. If its that big of a deal breaker for you then I don't know what to tell you as all apps have a set way to utilize the touch screen and not one of them have a way to alter the touch screen only the app itself. Also with all mobile phones there is no touch screen setting so if you want to drag your fingers up and down on the edge of the screen to scroll a website you will have to find a browser that utilizes that function.

But it didn't do it before i got rooted. He installed jellybean build 8 i believe and took it off cause the photos in the camera didn't work just the videos showed. I believe the build had a choice for the note 2 camera wich was chosen. None the less he brought it back to stock but kept it rooted.
Just talked to a friend on non rooted official jellybean release from verizon. His browser does NOT do this.

I think you're the only person that find it annoying as most don't see it as a big deal. That is mostly because a whole lot worse can happen to your phone and that isn't one of them. I have had signal issues,Wi-Fi issues, boot loops, sim card issues and even soft bricked my phone 3 times while rooting and flashing my phone. If you find your issue annoying then I can only imagine how you feel if you experience any of the problems I just mentioned. Your phone is functional as your friend did a good job rooting your phone you should checking for more serious problems with your phone.

not a fan of any non stock web browser....chrome seems sluggish and def not as smooth as stock...also it doesn't have the pinch to zoom all the way in to get to the windows you have open.
I agree he can test out other browsers to see if he encounters the same problem.

OTA Update

I just got an OTA update. The "details" weren't detailed at all... just "improvements to android." This is just a heads up if you want to check for one. I'm also curious if anyone knows if this brings any improvements?
I don't have a wireless charger (Samsung has it and is supposed to be fixing it) but maybe this will fix the wireless charging problem?

Someone in the other thread said they worked for Verizon and that the last update allows for Samsung pay to work, but since they aren't officially supporting it, the last step is Samsung making a special update to give it the feature, somehow not through Verizon?
Everything is hearsay, anecdotal, and annoying. But that's all we've got I suppose.
The update makes the wireless charging worse for me using the older mini charger, it worked fairly well before the update.
Correct, It unlocks the functionality needed for Samsung Pay, Verizon and Samsung are still negotiating official support. Samsung is not willing to activate Verizon members cards until Verizon makes an agreement.
I hesitantly took this update on my Note5, and so far regret it. Everything was running absolutely fine until the update, then things got weird. I get ANRs, which isn't a terrible thing when seldom, but then the lock screen crashed over and over, and wouldn't let me do anything. Also, during the crash, it showed my home screen wallpaper and contents, which I'm pretty sure is a security concern. Anyways, I had to do a hard reset, and it cleared that issue up, but now boot time is significantly longer and the finger print reader is giving me problems. Not once did I have a problem with the finger print reader before the update. I'll look into this and see if anything in my control is causing this instability.

Get Zimperium stagefright detector from the play store and it will show the device is still vulnerable.
Now I'm not having issues like other users but Antutu scores dropped and things like crossy road are unplayable.
If this is how things are to come I'm done. This device was nearly perfect and now not so sure. I'm still in my 14 day period to return this device, may just do that.
More than likely it's due to the new kernel. With a locked bootloader this is impossible for the user to fix.

Weird, I had no issues. Hopefully it was a fluke and it clears up fo ryou.
Also, it seems to be confirmed that the OTA update does allow for Samsung Pay to work. Now we have to wait for the app to be released to the play store.
This is the Tweet from Will Graylin saying, "soon to be down loadable on Google Play for Verizon customers. Hoping in the next week or so."

S7 Edge and Samsung KNOX - a word of warning!

Having just spent the morning setting up my new S7 Edge, I got towards the end of the process (i.e. several hours in), and found out that my App Drawer was failing to show all my apps, and other times none at all. This being with Google Now Launcher.
It turns out that this is a known issue both Samsung and Google are aware of, the fault allegedly being Google's, but in any event, one to be aware of. Because if like me, you had set up Knox, even if you don't really need it, then when you Uninstall it, then reboot, you get stuck on a loading screen with the animated word Samsung flashing, for an absolute age - mine's been around twenty five minutes already, and is still sitting there...
So if you don't need Knox, and you use Google Now, then DO NOT install Samsung Knox - your App Drawer will not work, and uninstalling it will cause a huge delay in you getting up and running.
I'm wondering if I should try a forced restart again, or just leave it chugging, for fear of causing corruption.
Grrrrrr!

Not sure how that affects the draw in Google now. That's strange.
To be honest, until there is root and a way to remove knox altogether, I will be using my s5 and using the S7 to play with the vr headset.
Mostly, I can't live without viper4android.

When you use a Bluetooth connection the phone DAC has no role at all and all the processing is made by the DAC inside the Bluetooth headset.

So how does this work? I'm not sure what knox is other than tripping it makes it so you can't use samsung pay. And I'd like to use the Google Now Launcher. So I can't have GNL and use samsung pay or it has issues booting, loses the app drawer or what?
I uninstalled Knox no problem. No long restart.
I don't even have Knox on my phone. There is an app on the Samsung market for it, but its not installed on my phone. Maybe I'm just missing something, but I can't find a Knox app.

Auto Rotate Issues w/ latest update?

I don't understand it either. I know I'll be leaving the Samsung brand on my next upgrade! My wife bought a note 7 and went through that fiasco. After returning it and getting an S7 she hasn't seen a security patch since. She is sitting on Samsung's newest flagship and it's on October's security patch. Now my note 5 is flaky thanks to updates to things that were working just fine. I'm done, I'm hoping the next Pixel phone is everything I want it to be.

Sorry to keep bugging you but could you please check in your Settings then About Device then scroll down to Android security patch level and let us know what it states (for example January 1, 2017)? OR in the same section, maybe you can also check what the Android Version is... It would be nice if you got the Nougat update/7.x!
If you have the February 1, 2017 patch then that's what most of us are waiting for to fix these issues! If you are still on the January patch then we need to look for another answer/fix.
Thanks in advance for your help!

It's not the April patch and we already had March's with Nougat. Hopefully some bug fixes and performance improvements. My battery has been a lot worse since Nougat
I notice a slight performance increase. Battery life definitely improved.

I didn't see an update from you about this, but I wanted to weigh in. I saw this thread and your issue. I installed the update myself and it seemed to stay on the Sprint LTE screen for way too long. I actually had time to stare at it, worry, then pull up this thread, reread your issue, read the reply about recovering, and reread the solution! Then the screen dimmed and after I stared it down some more, it loaded the system stating the update was successful. Not sure if this was your issue, but maybe? For those that may run into this, I guess be patient!

To fix the issue, I had to perform a clean Odin flash then update. I'm guessing the conflict was related to me previously being on the beta versions of Nougat.

Samsung's security updates are a month behind, it was basically the march security update now that it's just about April.

I had same issue before this update. Phone was stuck on beta version and said I was on the latest version when checking OTA. Smartswitch is complete garbage. Not only do you have to mess around with old C++ redistributable just to get the latest Smartswitch to run, once you do get it running the auto-prompt to revert back to stock no longer worked and the manual recover feature also didn't work as it said I had an invalid serial number even know I didn't. Not only did it not work, apparently the serial it wants is on the box only so if you don't have the box your SOL. I had the box and it still didn't work. Total lousy tool and worthless.
I ended up having to flash the official build with ODIN doing a clean flash. Once I did that, everything was great. Issues went away (battery drain, lag, getting hot, etc) Now this latest update popped up like normal. Update didn't take long to install, all good.
So those that were on beta at some point, use ODIN to flash official build. I already have a GS8+ on order and moving to big red after 15+ years with Sprint. Sprint is taking away subsidy on top of I can't take the network anymore it's total crap. That is a story for another day.
Well if anyone cares, the update includes the checks against hiding GPS mock apps from system. No more hiding. No more Pokemon Spoofing, if you're into that.

I just checked with your app. It still does not work in Pokemon. It says failed to detect location. The "fix" was almost specifically to benefit Niantic.
Stuck at LTE Screen

I have the same issue. Updated late Sunday evening and never got past the LET screen. I left it on over night plugged in and still at the LTE screen in the morning. Went to Samsung Experience Center in Best Buy and they re-flashed and all was well with no data loss.
I was prompted for the update again this morning, ran it and again looking at the damn LTE screen as I type this. The Samsung folks are off until Thursday so trying to figure this out. The SmartSwitch app does not recognize the phone.
Will look at Odin and appreciate any tips you, or anyone, has.
