Found a watchface with many customizable functions - Samsung Gear S2

Hey guys I would like to share an interesting watchface I found on the store a few days ago. So basically the only reason I got the gear S2 was to make my life easier by not having to reach in to my pockets for my phone. But the reality is that you still have to swipe, select and go through various menus just to get to the app you want to use on the gear S2. The watchface is called Customizable Watch with alarm, stopwatch, timer and torch by a developer called Hoseob Lee. The title is pretty much self explanatory and you can access all these functions just from the watch face, so you dont have to swipe and touch more buttons. And the best part is that you can customize the interface and the look of the watchface. It may take some time to get used to but I think its one of the easiest and useful watchfaces on the store once you get used to it.

Where did you find it? I can´t find it anywhere.....

Turn on the screen without pressing center key

Hi all,
Just got the SW2 today and am excited to use it. Is there a way to wake up the Smartwatch screen without pressing the center key. For example, can the screen turn on hand movement or say by tapping the screen?
I tried to search this in the forum but couldn't find any info.
Regards,
KS
Hi, since smartwatch firmware is closed and we can use watches only on application basis I am pretty sure it is not possible.

Supposedly, the SW2 has an accelerometer but I have yet to see it utilized. I had an original Sony Smartwatch for a short time, and it would turn on with the slightest movement. There was an option of turning it on by rotating your wrist while holding your forearm horizontal, but it was pretty erratic.
It kinda wish that you could set it to turn on the backlight with movement, but it's no more of a problem than hitting the button on my old digital watch to see in the dark.
It does have an accelerometer. If you leave it on the desk to charge it will switch the screen off after a while. It turns back on if you move it.

this freaked me out last night. I was playing a game and my wrist was still as a held the controller. I looked at the time and for like a tenth of a second I thought the screen was blank. Wasn't sure what happened.

At the moment there is no way to wake up the watch by a movement of the wrist as far as I know. However, if you use a custom watch face, (like custom watch for SW2, or clocki) you can wake it up via touchscreen buttons (home button for example).
I do not know if this works for you...
Thanks all for the reply. I could have use custom clock faces but I think it will consume more battery current. Hopefully Sony will make some interesting clock faces with weather integrated.
I have used SmartQ Z watch before. What I like about SW2 is amazing battery life and that I can read contents of email and whatsapp messages on the watch itself. Pretty cool!
There will be in the nearest future an big update, seen on MWC:

Article above, translated into English:
The SmartWatch 2, which came on the market in September 2013 (as reported) , was one of the first truly mature models on the market . However, it lacked some features or there were significant inconsistencies in the operation ( for our review ) . Now, however, a major update in the wings , which is to iron out any weaknesses.
We have long especially on other watches designs, so gennante Watch Faces , waiting . Now there are five of them , which partly show even quite a lot of information . This includes, among other things, the weather and a pedometer , but also the last notification received with content and the next upcoming alarm. Whether the pedometer works in the clock itself, or the information coming from the smartphone itself , we could not exist in Other improvements concern the notification system. The icon for the news has disappeared and the notification bar , which can be drawn down from above as with Android, is now finally scrollable. In addition, you can now on the clock even choose which app icons should be shown in the home screen and from which apps you want to receive notifications . The former is particularly interesting for apps which only provide notifications, but do not have to be started manually. So you get a little more order in the icon list .
Even the design of a lot has changed . The icons of the preinstalled apps , to which now also includes a simple calculator , were easily adapted . Further, it is now finally possible to change the wallpaper of the home screen . In addition , a percentage battery indicator in some of the new Watch Faces .

I wonder how reliable this source is. Especially its claim about it being discussed/shown in MWC, which I haven't seen reported on any of the mobile tech websites such as smartwatchfans and engadget, makes me suspect it's reliability. However, things being described are really nice like the watchfaces with more info including weather etc. It is very exciting nonetheless. Looking forward to such a firmware upgrade. Lets keep fingers crossed.

Wearable Widgets for Gear 2

Wearable Widgets (beta) for Gear 2 is just out on the Samsung store. You can now use any mobile widget to show up on Gear 2 screen. The feature is really great and you can also control the widget from gear 2 like pass touch inputs to phone.
I have enabled zooper widget and use it to show time and weather and call tasker objects.
It is a bliss on Gear 2
Check it out.

Awesome
This is a GREAT app!
Awesome app! One of the most useful apps available. Thanks!
SUPER ! ..Can I just add one widget?
Awesome. I installed it immediately. Off course for Tasker. I use Launch-X widget in which i create the shortcuts. But i find it to slow, especially when the phone is off.
I also used it to display my tasks, so i could read and fill in the items into another task app. Of the first section it was perfect. But when the screen of the watch is off and turned on again, the widget is reset for the first items. Not to the last scrolled position.
You can add only one widget per device..
I use zooper to add only my functions as a single widget.. Calendar, time , date , battery life and tasker icons

I can not open the widget on my watch anymore. It is saying "Unable to connect. Do you have Wearable Widgets on your phone?"
Already rebooted my watch AND my phone. Still the same.

Works great. Will you be able to add the ability to have more than one widget per device? It would be nice to be able to scroll through at least 4 or 5 of them. Thanks for the hard work.

If you read the first post, you'd know the dev of this app isn't the OP. To answer your question though, the dev left this on G+
"Clarification for Gear 1 & 2 owners: Currently, the Wearable Widgets app has two editions, both with a significant limitation:*
• The one available through Google Play (including this beta group) does not support Gear 1 & 2 devices.
• The one you can download through Samsung's app store (including via the Gear Manager app) only supports a single widget at a time.
The reasons for this are complicated, but are generally due to a number of restrictions that Samsung has put in place. We are working to develop a solution to both of these issues, and will release it as soon as we can - but for now, this is how things stand, I'm afraid.
Thank you for your understanding, and your patience."

Just change the setting for what is shown on wake to last app / screen.
That means I need to go to the wearable widgets app continually before I am 'done' doing whatever I'm doing
The developer has indicated they are working on the ability to make this a watch face. I am looking forward to that update.

This just rocked my world... I don't know why I didn't think of that. Duh. Thank you.
Thank You
That's great, Thank You.
As I've been using it - I actually don't mind having it not be the main watchface. What I've done instead is make it accessible from one of the 9 shortcuts from the Multi-Watch "swipe-up" launcher panel. That way I can still have the customizable watchfaces of multi-watch, but when I want I can launch an info panel widget that has time, date, watch battery level, currently connected wifi SSID, current weather w/ 5-day forecast AND my next 3 calendar appointments. Using a customized Zooper widget for this. I've made a request to Zooper to allow adding Google tasks list items and the phone's volume state to a widget.

Change the OEM watch face?

So ive tried out the Watch styler app to change the watch face on my Gear 2 and to be honest wasnt to thrilled with the options that were available to make your own custom watch face. The ones for download arent to bad just looking for something of my own.
Has anyone had any luck with any other Watch Styler type apps? Either that or i would be happy with changing the color of the digital clock and say the weather widget that comes with the watch. The white is just rather boring.
Just looking for some tips here and hopefully give some others some more options!
Thanks guys

I've always favored Multi-Watch over the rest of the watch face customization apps. The ability to use any graphic for your background or using any wstheme watchface as a base to tweak your own is very powerful to me. Add on the ability to have a 3x3 launcher for watch apps when you swipe up makes it essential to me.

I actually stumbled upon that a few hours after i made that post so i greatly appreciate it! I just found that the watch face i picked really drained my battery today! I went from 5AM till about 4:30 PM and it died completely! Not sure if its the face or just multi-watch. Im going to charge it up and try another face. Maybe it was just that. Figured id give it a go before i put a ton of effort into customizing one. Just rather stinks that I had to pay for the app first to try it. But oh well. Its just a few dollars and it supports the DEV.
Thanks for your suggestion. Any feedback from your battery useage?

I normally don't use the premade wstheme watchfaces anymore, but I do remember certain ones eating my battery faster than the rest. What I do now is just take a graphic I like and make a clock face out of it, then customize the watch hands and other text.
I just customize the watch faces to my liking and use it via Multi-watch. Just waiting for the app to support weather and calendar as well.
Mutli-Watch app battery use is very low .. much efficient than Watch Styler.

[APP Requeat] Starbucks Barcode

Hey what's up guys. I saw today that android wear has a way to pay for your drinks at Starbucks with your watch. I was seeing if we have any good devs out here that can make this possible for our gear 2?
I can't find any app that I can use a widget with wearable Widgets so that's out of the question :c....
Anybody?
Edit: I've found a solution.
Open your Starbucks card in the Coffee Card app found in the play store. (has a little android holding a cup)
Screen shot the barcode, crop it to just show the barcode.
Then using wearable Widgets app for Gear 2, select picture frame widget and select your cropped bar code. Now you can scan that at the checkout :good: ?
Yes, someone figured out the screenshot the barcode trick quite a while ago, but I never tried using Wearable Widgets to show it. Seemed faster for me to just open the gallery app as I made the barcode the very first pic. Wearable Widgets always had a bit of lag to get to my widgets so I save that for other items.

Yes I see that they added some improvements recently. The problem is the more widgets you add for it to sync, the more lag and overhead is introduced. I'd rather reserve that for the dashboard widget I made and my home automation widgets. That way there's less taps/swipes to get to my starbucks code - as right now it takes me a swipe and 2 quick taps to show the code and with my Wearable Widgets setup, it would take me a swipe and 3 at the minimum.

I have mine set as a 3rd widget on my watch. I have the wearable Widgets clock face. So I have the cLock widget as my watch face, a calendar on the second and my code on the 3rd.
So I turn on the watch and tap it twice to get to mine.
I'm hoping the development can port over the feature he has for Android wear, where you just tap the side of the watch instead of touching the screen to change the widget.

Ah, I should investigate the watch face they have then. It's just so hard to give up Multi-Watch with its infinite customization and 3x3 launcher.

I'll have to check that multi watch one out myself
This thread is pretty old, but based on another thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch/gear-s3/tried-starbucks-app-t3669596 this is still an issue for Samsung Gear/Galaxy watches. There is a starbucks app now for Samsung - see the thread above.
What concerns me is that it took 4 years for an app!?! I'm wondering how small the Samsung market share must be when major brands don't even bother release an app for Samsung. (Android + Apple have had this a long time).
Since Tizen is Linux based, maybe someone will add a compatibility layer to allow Wear apps to run on Tizen. They will be slower, but at least there will be useful apps

Any better smartthings options than Wearable Widgets?

I'm a woodworker and I use my watch to control the 240v aeotec switch that controls my dust collection. It works well except the Wearable Widgets seems to always lose connection with my phone as well as being incredibly tiny to press the buttons needed.
Are there any better options available?
IMO, your best bet is to get Watch Maker and make your own mod on a watch design to put in Tasker buttons and use tasker to control your SmartThings (through the plug-ins). I have mine set up for my Wink system and I find it a million times better as it doesn't disconnect like Wearable widget/Trigger or TaskS2.
If you want a simpler method, Trigger is a viable option too but you need to set it up through IFTTT
You will be very happy soon if you'd like an app...an native Tizen SmartThings app to control routines and switches is in progress by a SmartThings forum community member.
It's community development, so we don't have/expect an official timeline, but his most recent post indicated he was getting things ready to start beta testing.
https://community.smartthings.com/t/gear-watch-smartthings-app-development-thread/73122
The option using WatchMaker to enable tasker actions from watch faces is also good, but it can be a maintenance PITA if you like to switch watch faces and try new ones frequently - then you'll have to keep editing each face you want to use to add the tasker tap actions, and if you use a watch face that the designer has locked down then you can't edit it. I'm using tasker tap actions from watch faces now, but looking forward to the native app so I don't have to keep updating things...

As mentioned in the other reply, TaskS2 is also an option, the app gives you access to Tasker actions on the watch. It works pretty well, but can disconnect and need to refresh sometimes.

Mine is even worse. It loses the settings all the time. The list of widgets is empty.
It is a new version 6.0 (Android 6.01 BTW) I think.
When opening Wearable Widgets on Note 5 I get the "choose widget" screen.
