Block ads in browsers - General Questions and Answers

Hey guys,
I search a way to block ads in my browsers (google chrome or firefox). I have a rooted Huawei P9 and I have Xposed Installer on my phone. Does anyone know a way how to block ads in browsers..?

For Firefox, install the AdBlock Plus or AdBlock Edge extension.

With xposed framework on your phone you'll probably want to use this instead of any google play options

Ad blocking

Is there any good ad blocking software that runs at a browser level? I've used adblock but it runs as a proxy and can stop some apps from accessing the internet.

try AdAway, it's block ad in every app.
or use ublock in firefox, to block only for the browser.
and Ghostery too, works well . Also try bluehell firewall addon <- Both firefox Andriod.

Another AdAway fan...
Maybe Adblock Browser? https://adblockbrowser.org/
but I still love Chrome though
AdAway uses hosts file, so it's still a system level software

Managing our own hosts file is the best solution IMO. You have no control over a proxy. #TrustOrPray
AdAway FTW!!!
There is no widely used Ad blocker other than AdAway ?

AdAway is ONLY a user interface to manager your hosts file. This app doesn't block anything.
Check the XDA thread or Github to learn how to use it.
I use Adfree.
It blocks ads by adding the hosts to the local hosts file.
This method blocks the advertisements in all apps + browser
Sounds interesting. What host files do you need to implement to get add-free apps with adaway?

You only need Adaway: it is an interface, which unlike the other apps, does not waste your battery. It gets host sources from 4 respectable internet sites that get updated regularly. It also lets you add your own sites. It is so effective that Google has expelled it from its app store. And it is open source: you don't want to give root access to a closed source app...
are there Apps to block just ads on selected sites? Because I don't want to block all ads from all sites. I just want to block these sites, wich opens 20x Tabs by one click.

I can't find Adfree on Google play. Is it allowed only for some countries?
Google Play removed all ad-blocking apps. You can search here at xda-developers for AdAway and AdFree.

A hosts file blocks domains so the ad/domain/IP "X" will be blocked on any website.

Any good adblocker on a rooted phone

Hi, I've been using adFree adblock for the past 3 years and it used to block everything even admob's ads (the ones your getting from apps). Now it's barely do anything.
Any good ones with lists that actually work?
(also I've tried AdAway witch does exactly the same).
Thanks
"Free Adblocker Browser" Not tried it dont know what it does but just happened upon it, good luck.
This is just a browser, I'm looking for something that modify the hosts file

You could also install Xposed and configure UnbelovedHosts (goes better with Donator app).

[q] AD Blocking Minmin guard chrome android system webview admarvel

I have a few questions about ad blocking on android. I was wondering if there was currently an xposed module that will block ads in chrome. I installed minmin guard but it doesn't seem to block ads in chrome. While playing around with minmin guard I tried disabling ads on android system webview because I've heard that the two interact. I found that it disabled an ad network called admarvel but could find very little information on why it would be in a system package. Any one have any ideas/knowledge? Thanks in advance.
uses adaway blocks advertising even in browsers, it is not an Xposed module and there is n't in the play storie but you can find it here on xda
I'll give it a try

AdAway dont block ads inside applications

I had AdAway on all of my previous smartphone and I never saw one ad not even in messenger or Instagram. Now ads are everywhere and I don't know why AdAway wont block them (I have Magisk install and AdAway installed "successful").

Question about rooting Note 10 Unlocked

Will rooting the device help with disabling ads in apps? Ex: Instacrap(instagram)

root wont do that by itself, but root will allow you to sideload apps that will block ads on many/most apps. You can also defeat a great many ads with the built in VPN
For paid option You can use Nord vpn (not google play version though!) or for free option you can use some free adblock DNS like adguard dns to get rid of most of advertisements but, for apps like YouTube or Instagram because, the way they preview ads are different than other apps there is no option other than using their patched app which could be not as safe as their original app but, those options I said usually block most of ads in any browsers or other apps that use normal way of showing in-app advertising.
