I had AdAway on all of my previous smartphone and I never saw one ad not even in messenger or Instagram. Now ads are everywhere and I don't know why AdAway wont block them (I have Magisk install and AdAway installed "successful").

I have a few questions about ad blocking on android. I was wondering if there was currently an xposed module that will block ads in chrome. I installed minmin guard but it doesn't seem to block ads in chrome. While playing around with minmin guard I tried disabling ads on android system webview because I've heard that the two interact. I found that it disabled an ad network called admarvel but could find very little information on why it would be in a system package. Any one have any ideas/knowledge? Thanks in advance.
uses adaway blocks advertising even in browsers, it is not an Xposed module and there is n't in the play storie but you can find it here on xda
I'll give it a try
Hey guys,
I search a way to block ads in my browsers (google chrome or firefox). I have a rooted Huawei P9 and I have Xposed Installer on my phone. Does anyone know a way how to block ads in browsers..?
For Firefox, install the AdBlock Plus or AdBlock Edge extension.
With xposed framework on your phone you'll probably want to use this instead of any google play options

Go to this website, download their hosts file and replace yours in /etc
Can any one suggest me which one adblocker is good for my oneplus 3 open beta 7
Adaway
Or adblocker
Or minminguard
Adaway and adblocker: they block ads/pop-ups that appear from the browser only.
Minminguard (Xposed module): it blocks ads that appear within an app.

I don't get ads within apps with AdAway. Maybe the occasional ad but almost zero within aps.

On the surface it looks like they both function the same way.
What kind of ads "within the apps" are you referring to? There are many kinds (pop-up? Ads at the bottom/to section of the app that is a persistent display of ads? etc.).
Adaway, blocks the "connection" (like a regular computer, Android has a file named "hosts"...you normally enter some IP Addresses in there - typically, the IP Addresses of the ads that will be served to your device) to the ads, but not the actual placeholder of the ad itself.
So you will notice, for example: try opening XDA forums on your mobile browser (with Adaway already configured). Scroll through some threads. Notice that while there are no ads, the actual "placeholder" of the ads are still there. Also within certain apps, while Adaway can block the "connection" to the ads (and in effect, will result to no ads showing up), you will notice that the "placeholder" of the ads are still there as well in the app.
Some apps don't use "placeholders" for ads within apps, so in this situation you won't notice the difference between how Adaway and Minminguard will function. But there are apps that have "placeholders", so while you won't see the ads (by blocking the connection to the ads using Adaway), you will still see the placeholders (which is what Minminguard can "eliminate").
Minminguard "eliminates" the actual placeholder of in-app ads. That's how it is different from Adaway. It does not block ads from the browser, however. Minminguard is clear in its purpose (blocking ads in apps only).
May have to try minminguard. AdAway works very well, but it does leave the placeholder you mention.

Yup. Just remember:
1. Minminguard was specifically created to block ads and their placeholders that show up in apps. And, Minminguard's purpose is primarily to target ads (and placeholders) within an app only. Also, Minminguard requires Xposed. Finally: because Minminguard is focused on apps, based on my experience it doesn't remove the placeholders of ads in the browser.
2. Adaway is geared more towards blocking the connections to ads. It is more focused to block ads on the mobile browser.
3. Having said that they have different focus areas, you can install both without causing issues on the device.
pop up are really irritating me as if lately.
adaway, i've literally never seen a popup
I'm using DNS66 (no root) that block ads also on apps (works also with browser).
Love It
I use AdClear blocks add in apps and browsers and no pop ups
Block This with no root seems to work here is the link https://block-this.com/
Check out blokada in xda labs.
Hi all!
Could someone give their opinion on what the best ad blocker is? I've been on the NOT so root friendly AT&T Note & S series for so long I forget how awesome it is to have root again.
Any ideas would be so awesome!!!
Thanks in advance and I will remember to hit your thanks button....wouldn't hurt if you could hit my button too lol.
AdAway works well for me, but I haven't tried anything else. You have to download it from f-droid.
AdAway as mentioned above is the best one for me
Has a download link for fdroid on the page. https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.adaway/

Be sure to enable IPv6 in preferences as well.
I also use adaway from fdroid. Its pretty good.

I found that adaway reborn with default settings causes some of the apps to crash. Anyone know how to fix it.
Also adaway doesn't work well on in app ads.
I use adaway, fyi if u use venmo ull have to turn adaway off before being able to login if i remember right
Sent from my ONEPLUS A6003 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
AdAway is the best.
did someone mention adaway yet
Blokada is another good one.
DNS666 works but they're more of a battery drain with it.
Definitely AdAway
Sent from my OnePlus 6 using XDA Labs
I can't believe no one has mentioned it yet, but AdAway.
I use Unified Hosts Manager from the official Magisk Repository and have no problems so far.

Me too, I switched to Unified Hosts from AdAway, because it was more comfortable for me. Both work very well. Unified hosts has nice checkboxes to block Fakenews, Gambling, Porn, Social. And also whitelist and blacklist.
I've never used ad blockers on my phones before, just on my browsers. But thanks for asking about it, as now I am using AdAway as most have suggested!
But now I think I might have to try Unified Hosts. Are there any conflicts if you run 2 ad blockers?
Find unified hosts the best with the whitelist so I can still get Google ads when I search for something in Google!
Used to run adaway but it blocked everything
So everyone mentioned AdAway but no one mentioned how it works or how to use most efficiently.
AdAway is a hosts based ad blocker IE it blocks ads by blocking access to the domains which provide ads, and it does this for the entire system.
So you need to have some lists of domains that provide ads to block them. AdAway has some by default, but they aren't very complete. So you should add http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/hosts
to host sources ( I forget what it is exactly called since I haven't rooted my OP6 yet) and I found it blocks most of the ads, though you still have to deal with some. But I used this for more than a year and my experience was great. If anyone has any other suggestions for hosts sources it would be amazing.
Also to block ads in YouTube, you need to install YouTube Vanced from https://vanced.azurewebsites.net/
adguard works great. If you have root, get systemless xposed & use minminguard.
Is there a way to block YouTube ads on chrome? I don't want to use an app for YouTube
