Any good adblocker on a rooted phone - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I've been using adFree adblock for the past 3 years and it used to block everything even admob's ads (the ones your getting from apps). Now it's barely do anything.
Any good ones with lists that actually work?
(also I've tried AdAway witch does exactly the same).
Thanks

"Free Adblocker Browser" Not tried it dont know what it does but just happened upon it, good luck.

This is just a browser, I'm looking for something that modify the hosts file

AdAway works great for me, i can't link it right now but you should be able to easily find it with google

(-:
F-Droid
Open source application repository which hosts Ad-Away and Adblock plus app, among a sh1tload of other interesting stuff. Recommended. :fingers-crossed:
Cheers

Adaway doesnt seem to block admob. Just tried it.

Use MoaAB.

You could also install Xposed and configure UnbelovedHosts (goes better with Donator app).

[app/mod]ultimate adblock/remover+ collection

if you like me dont like the annoying ads and other not wanted pop ups,i decided to post the best adblocking+ apps available atm
its very difficult to say which one is the best for what rom/android version, its best to try and see/test yourself
1.Mother of All AD-BLOCKING from xda member BSDgeek_Jake
bsdgeek s thread<----CLICK HERE
its contains a very detailed explanation what and how to
2.adaway its a apk just install like a normal apk update and follow the instructions
adaway2.8 download here---->http://d-h.st/Dsv
the official site its here--->adaway official site<---- here there also is a link to fdroid where adaway is also available
3.adfree its a apk and can also be installed as a normal apk/update and follow the instructions
adfree download here---->http://d-h.st/jrN
the official site can be found here and there you can also get the download adfree official site<----
4.[Xposed Module] Xad presented by XDA Senior Member DragonHunt3r, who created a module to block the Google Ads API. With this module, you can get rid of most ads seen on your device. Installation is really easy. All you need is root and the latest version of Xposed Framework.
original thread DragonHunt3r s thread<----CLICK HERE
5.adblock plus(also called ABP) its a apk and can also be installed as a normal apk/update and follow the instructions.
ABP download here----->http://d-h.st/q3f
here is the original site here you can also get the download ABP thread<----CLICK HERE
6.lucky patcher its also a very good addblocker, but i can not put a link here because i think its forbidden, because it can do more then just blocking adds,if you wanto try it just use google
7.[Xposed module] MinMinGuard . It can completely remove both the ads inside apps and the empty space caused by those ads. Conventional ads removing apps are only able to block the ad content, but the space taken by the ad will still remain unused (black). MinMinGuard successfully removes that black space, which extends the app window and makes your user-experience better.
All you need is root and the latest version of Xposed Framework
the official thread can be found here, with a very detailed what and how to------>MinMinGuard thread<----CLICK HERE

Thanks for this! I'm trying to find the holy grail of ad-blocking, but pretty sure it's futile. On Android 4.2.2, so far I've found MOAB and AdAway prevent in browser flash videos from playing (Firefox + Flash), and ABP unfortunately breaks HBO Go.
DroidWall blocks all the ads on all of my games. Download from the Play Store. This app is the ultimate solution as it doesn't run any persistent services, and it uses built-in Android functionality (iptables). Basically, it blocks all Internet connection from any app you select, like a firewall. Good for privacy as well as ad-blocking. Works on Android 2.3+ and requires root.
Enjoy!
<<< Please say thanks!
Thanks for putting this list together man. Good stuff! :good:
thanks for the effort man
a pool for the one we like the most would have been awesome though

Ad Blocking Options

I primarily rooted my phone to block ads. I am a long time user of AdFree, however, that app is no longer supported. I am curious what ad blocker does the community prefer. Google-ing options, it seems there is AdAway and AdBlock Plus. Are these good options, or are there others that are better? Also, with a systemless root, is it safe to manually change out the \system\etc\hosts file?

Why do you need both? Don't they both do the same?
i use adgaurd from many days its creates VPN and lets us browse through it .. better dont use any kind of vpn when you are doing any money transactions
Adaway is good, but use Firefox (with ABP), uc, Yolo, Yu etc. Browsers as ADAWAY doesn't work good with browsers without inbuilt adblock features
adaway works via host file (you don't even have to keep the app open). It blocks every ad in every app installed on the phone

Is there a good App/Package Disabler and or AdBlocker like Adhell?

Title really says everything but I will iterate, on Samsung devices they have a lot of different Package/App disablers, these get rid of pre-installed bloatware that cannot be disabled normally like SwiftKey on this phone.
Does anyone know of anything like that one here?
Thanks

I've removed without root some apps with this how-to:
https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
As AdBlocker I'm using Adguard - one big plus is, that some sites does not "see" Adguard and the view on the pages is permittet. It opens a local VPN and is filtering the ads. If you are rootet, you can configure Adguard as a local proxy - so you are able to open a vpn-connection with Adguard enabled.
I am using Adguard Premium as well. Excellent adblocker (you can get it lifetime license 1+1 - 1 PC and 1 android device) for about 6 euros.
Thanks guys, I was hoping for a more direct on device method for the disabling of apps that was able to be undone with a switch on the phone like on Samsung but that is fine there is not enough bloat on here to worry too much.
As for Adguard I will give that a shot and pick up premium if I like it, thanks again!

Best Ad Blocker for Rooted OP6

Hi all!
Could someone give their opinion on what the best ad blocker is? I've been on the NOT so root friendly AT&T Note & S series for so long I forget how awesome it is to have root again.
Any ideas would be so awesome!!!
Thanks in advance and I will remember to hit your thanks button....wouldn't hurt if you could hit my button too lol.
AdAway works well for me, but I haven't tried anything else. You have to download it from f-droid.
AdAway as mentioned above is the best one for me
Has a download link for fdroid on the page. https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.adaway/
---------- Post added at 05:46 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:46 PM ----------
Be sure to enable IPv6 in preferences as well.
I also use adaway from fdroid. Its pretty good.

AdAway is the best.

Blokada is another good one.
DNS666 works but they're more of a battery drain with it.
Definitely AdAway

I can't believe no one has mentioned it yet, but AdAway.
I use Unified Hosts Manager from the official Magisk Repository and have no problems so far.

Me too, I switched to Unified Hosts from AdAway, because it was more comfortable for me. Both work very well. Unified hosts has nice checkboxes to block Fakenews, Gambling, Porn, Social. And also whitelist and blacklist.
I've never used ad blockers on my phones before, just on my browsers. But thanks for asking about it, as now I am using AdAway as most have suggested!
But now I think I might have to try Unified Hosts. Are there any conflicts if you run 2 ad blockers?
Find unified hosts the best with the whitelist so I can still get Google ads when I search for something in Google!
Used to run adaway but it blocked everything
So everyone mentioned AdAway but no one mentioned how it works or how to use most efficiently.
AdAway is a hosts based ad blocker IE it blocks ads by blocking access to the domains which provide ads, and it does this for the entire system.
So you need to have some lists of domains that provide ads to block them. AdAway has some by default, but they aren't very complete. So you should add http://someonewhocares.org/hosts/hosts
to host sources ( I forget what it is exactly called since I haven't rooted my OP6 yet) and I found it blocks most of the ads, though you still have to deal with some. But I used this for more than a year and my experience was great. If anyone has any other suggestions for hosts sources it would be amazing.
Also to block ads in YouTube, you need to install YouTube Vanced from https://vanced.azurewebsites.net/
adguard works great. If you have root, get systemless xposed & use minminguard.
Is there a way to block YouTube ads on chrome? I don't want to use an app for YouTube

Annoying ads in apps and in web browsing

Hi there people,
In the past people just needed a rooted device and an app like adaway, well things evolved and we're here having annoying ads from any app or website, any proper method to eliminate this?
I know yandex and ad guard works great for just websites, but I'm not very happy with yandex browser overall
P.S. Adaway and adding tons of extra hosts doesn't work, in the past adaway was the best solution(when android was around 2.3 version)
EDIT: Some of the hosts(I did add plenty) I've added in adaway seems to stop a few ads but not all, if someone knows a better way feel free to discuss it here
Try adguard.

Try Via, the browser is freaking great and totally free. And since it's not base on chromium a lot of ads/pop-ups will not work. I use it with ad away and so far so good.

Well for browser I prefer opera especially for FB messages as others would ask to install messenger, now about an overal blocker I'd be more interested. In the past(Android v2.3) an adaway app would do the trick on a rooted phone, now? it's not enough, which worries me. I don't want d$m^ ads using my data and I don't want to be annoyed
Who thought it was a good idea to put ads in apps, websites etc ...lets drink his blood
adguard is good for ads blocking (and cheap, 9$ for lifetime licence )
