Hi there people,
In the past people just needed a rooted device and an app like adaway, well things evolved and we're here having annoying ads from any app or website, any proper method to eliminate this?
I know yandex and ad guard works great for just websites, but I'm not very happy with yandex browser overall
P.S. Adaway and adding tons of extra hosts doesn't work, in the past adaway was the best solution(when android was around 2.3 version)
EDIT: Some of the hosts(I did add plenty) I've added in adaway seems to stop a few ads but not all, if someone knows a better way feel free to discuss it here
Try adguard.

Try Via, the browser is freaking great and totally free. And since it's not base on chromium a lot of ads/pop-ups will not work. I use it with ad away and so far so good.

Well for browser I prefer opera especially for FB messages as others would ask to install messenger, now about an overal blocker I'd be more interested. In the past(Android v2.3) an adaway app would do the trick on a rooted phone, now? it's not enough, which worries me. I don't want d$m^ ads using my data and I don't want to be annoyed
Who thought it was a good idea to put ads in apps, websites etc ...lets drink his blood
adguard is good for ads blocking (and cheap, 9$ for lifetime licence )

adaway does better job but still, some do slip away. Whoever thought it would be a great idea to put ads in phones was a big *******, it's your phone unless they pay you, you don't need these cr**
I use brave browser... No root needed. I was using Samsung internet with the adblock plugin. Also a good choice.

Just saw adblock plus was released on Google Play today. I can't picture developers/advertisers that rely on ad revenue to survive being too happy about this. Thoughts?
It doesn't worry me - if people don't want ads there were already methods to remove them. And from my own experience as an AdBlock user on desktop people like that don't click on ads anyway.
The more problematic thing is - if AdBlock can setup a proxy without root then malware can too - and use it for phishing or spying for example.

AAAand its gone.
I just try to not root my phone But the ads are really annoying.
Adaway helped me a lot in the past, but the phone has to be rooted.
Is there any alternative available?
Adguard, you can buy the lifetime license for around 4€ when paying in the russian currency.
Add another 2€ for tasker if you're annoyed of the little key symbol.

blocks adds with the free version unlike adgaurd. Need the github version to actually block ads.
Thanks guys, nothing is really comparable. But I ll try it a little more.
https://block-this.com/ - Free local VPN like AdGuard, but without the insane battery drain.
I tried the 3 apps you suggested:
Atguard
Netguard (from Gifthub)
Block this
But no app could block the ads inside my newspaper app. It is called "Schweiz News" just in case you wanna check it. Quite depressing. With root and adaway, this ads were immediately blocked.

I just tried that news app with block this and it blocked the ads at the bottom. Block this is the only free app that can block ads in apps, the others you need to pay for.

One more thing. HowHow can I get rid of the key symbol with Tasker?
I never really used it.
I'm using Adguard since i bought my S7 (don't wanna root it just yet). Didn't notice any major battery drain with Adguard but i will try Block-this for a few days... Just installed it, the app doesn't seem to have any options :/ but nevermind...

Nope, no options....but it does its job :good:
For browsers I highly recommend "adblock browser". I doesn't address ads in other apps but it does a fantastic job blocking them while surfing the Internets - and you can get it free from the play store. (No extra setup required. Install and launch) great for say... streaming video sites that traditionally would throw a ton of pop ups and redirects at you.

Couldn't agree more! The only reason I used to root my phone was to block annoying ads and there was no effective way to block in-app ads without a root until I found block-this. This little freebee works like a charm effectively blocking both in-browser and app ads. Few times I do randomly see ads on some webpages, but I can live with that. The only annoying part is that there is a persistent key icon and VPN notification in the notification area but I can live with this, given the comfort this freebee brings without any root.

try nochromo browser. search xda. it's chromium, so just like chrome.
You can not remove the VPN key icon without being root. Even with tasker.

I tend to disagree. Tried Adhell since I got my phone on launch day, this week went back to DNS66. Hate to go the VPN route, but Adhell did nothing for me browsing Chrome and in some other apps. And before it's said I do not plan on using some other browser.
Here's what I use, but the premium version. https://disconnect.me/mobile/disc
I have tried Adhell but for me it doesn't block the ads on apps only on the browser. Does Adhell block ads on apps for u guys? Well u used adblock on my s7 edge it's the best for me to block ads on both browser and apps but it's no longer a free service haha.
I tried adhell but it blocked a couple of sites I wanted to use... (gumtree)
I just use adblocker for samsung by betafish. Although that doesn't do apps, just browser.
I used BlockThis on my S7 occasionally. Haven't tried anything on the S8+ yet though.
Adhell is ok but it doesnt block everything. All it needs is the ability to import your own hosts file and it would effectively give us adfree/adaway for rooted devices but no sign of such a feature yet despite quite a few requests from people, maybe if enough people request it then he will add this. It does have the ability to change dns servers now so you can try using an ad blocking dns server with it too. Disconnect pro works in the exact same way using the knox firewall, but seems to let just as many ads through but comes with an extortionate price and is supposedly geared more towards blocking trackers than ads, and you cant change the dns.
Other than that you have the vpn based ones like adguard (not free), dns666 (free). I just spotted one called netguard (free with ads and option to buy pro version) https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-netguard-root-firewall-t3233012 which sounds good and lets you use your own hosts file but again its a vpn blocker.
I use Blokada and so far it's the best for me

Yes it will, but you don't want to touch that thing with a barge pole. It isn't specifically made for ad blocking, its for tracking blocking. The price is a joke. You can't customise what its blocking at all. adhell is free, does the same thing, is specifically targeting blocking ads, and you can add/remove things from the list, which you cant do in disconnect pro. no contest. if only the dev of adhell would implement being able to import our own hosts files then we would have an adfree/adaway for rooted phones, but I dont know why he hasnt. most of the work to enable that is already done as it is obviously using some sort of hosts file anyway, just his own one instead of one we can customise ourselves.
my main issue is that nothing seems to block the ads that are in apps in your secure folder, regardless of whether it is a knox blocker or a vpn blocker, which i find ridiculous. trying to install the blocker into secure folder does not work and would double your battery drain even if it did work so that isnt an option.

Where can I find more info on adhell... The website or github does not give much at all... Also what is package disabler integration for?
Does it work if Knox is disabled in package disabler?

DNS66. Just make sure your select all the sources. Works great
While it's not free I use adgaurd. They had a sale and I think it was under 15 bucks for a life time license. it's a VPN app and I haven't found anything else be able to compete with it's protection from ads. I love it. Probably had it about 6 months now. The free stuff tends to not work well at all. I've tried them all.
Hi. Which are the most reliable apps for blocking ads both in browsers and regular apps?
There is quite some number of these but I would like to download something that is actually reliable in this field.
I'm using Adguard. It does the job with a few catches though. Some YouTube ads and of course make sure you are restricting access to ebanking and other sensitive apps.

I came across that application, a lot of people use it. I don't have problem with YouTube because I use Vanced. However browser and other apps with ads are really annoying. However if I checked correctly, for blocking ads in other apps (apart from browser) you need to pay for premium account?
Use firefox with ublockorigin or adaway app, or both
I set private DNS - adguard. For now I don't see any commercials, no in applications, neither in browsers.

Yes, if i remember correctly. But I got a lifetime license, it's not that expensive.
AdGuard is worth any penny!
Rooted the phone and using AdAway. By far the best solutions to ad blocking.
Is there any apps out there that can do this?
So sick of all the ads on the apps

Unfortunately no. They appear to either be served server side, or the apps use the "home" servers as proxies for ads. I'm not sure which. Either way there doesn't seem to be a way to block the ads, even by using a third party client (which Facebook does not support and often intentionally breaks).

I miss the days where roms would just block all that stuff. well thanks for reply
Yeah, I think they changed things in response to ad blocking. That's how they make a lot of their money - other than selling your data and invading your privacy, they target you with ads. It's a revenue stream for them so it's unsurprising they'd want to protect it.
Ad blockers don't work in this regard because they only block known ad domains. This works well enough for web pages and apps that display ads from those domains, but it doesn't work when the app uses its home servers as a proxy.
Frost.apk stopped working 2 weeks ago !!! It's been unsupported for years, but was in service until now ! (facebook server must have been updated so this 3rd party app broken)
Search on XDA and all 3rd party FB app are dead !?!? (metal, LC, vanced, etc)
I found 1 post from a guy stating that re-vanced manager can patch the original facebooklite.apk, but it didn't work.
So far Opera.apk with oem adblock seem to do the trick, but not very nice to use .
Note : even ad-away can't block facebooklite ads. Very very annoying.
I'm use to see ONLY friends post and group post. That's it that's all, nothing more. No tiktok ****, or fake life hack, or robot vacuum that I dont need.

the best bet would be to try Revanced. They usually are used to patch to remove ads in YouTube, however they work in so many other apps. I use this app for Twitter to remove ads, and it works fine. I recommend giving Revanced a try. They are very likely to work for Instagram and Facebook.
