Hi everyone.
First off, I'd like to say that I don't like opening new threads, and I always read up on my problem first, but I'm simply at my wit's end.
The problem is fairly common (not only on nexus 5 phones), and something a lot of you forum guys have encountered and tried to help with, with more or less success.
Basically, my WiFi doesn't work, it shows 'turning on WiFi' most of the time, and sometimes (fairly rarely), has a couple of hours where it reboots to no end, but I'm thinking that's a power button that sticks. It usually fixes itself after I gently but firmly stroke it (lol) and doesn't happen again for weeks. The WiFi issue started randomly, totally out of the blue, and never happened before to any of my phones (it might have started a couple of days after the last OTA security update, but I can't say for sure). The phone was a 100% stock 16gb Nexus 5.
What I've tried (some steps even multiple times, with different variations):
- removing the sim card
- switching airplane mode on/off
- factory reset (3 times in total think)
- wiping cache
- reflashing stock ROM
- reflashing stock everything
- flashing TWRP and rooting, and manually changing/removing either the .macaddr and .btaddr files, or changing/removing their respective folders
- playing with ownership of those files
- flashing CM, flashing a custom kernel and flashing Paranoid Android
- all in all, i've wiped and rebooted the device like 50 times
Honestly, I don't know what I've missed, I've been at it for days, and I'd be very grateful if someone would point out an oversight.
Also, what's weird, my bluetooth didn't work too, but after i tinkered with .btaddr and .macaddr, it now works perfectly, no matter what I throw at it. This is what gives me hope that I still can resolve this issue without paying for a new motherboard/phone.
Thanks in advance, guys, you've been truly helpful so far.
A defective wifi chip could be the cause of the problem and, in my experience, is not that uncommon. I have come across two n5 and two Samsung s4 phones that work perfectly except the wifi either won't turn on or tries to turn on for about 10 minutes.
I tried different modems, bootloaders, and roms without any success.
Yeah, sadly, that's what I'm thinking too. I had some hope because bluetooth works, but not anymore. I've kinda already made my peace that I'm gonna have to spend +$200 on a repair or $400 on a new phone. I'm just thinking if anyone knows something that helps that I haven't tried yet, please come forward, possibly before I take it to a service centre
Maybe look for a used N5 with a smashed screen and working motherboard?

hello,
I know there are a few old threads about this but instead of digging up an old one I thought I would start a fresh, seeing how none have answers on.
I have a problem on my raphael, the wifi wont turn on, I click the button in comms manager and nothing happens, it thinks a while and then decides that it wont turn on.
This occured on the original HTC rom and the Energy 3.0 ROM I have on it now.
Has anyone found a fix to this?
Stuart
hard reset or reload a new rom
To be honest.. I don't think there is a solution to this problem. If it's the problem that I have, then I think it's a hardware problem. Since you've had it happen on two roms now, it might be safe to say that a hard reset won't work.
My situation is similar to yours, except mine will sometimes turn on (and turn itself off in a few minutes).
well!
mild pain, I have tried it over 2 roms 2 radios and a hard reset, so none of them fix it, I dont think it is finding the card properly.
I had the same issue, i confirmed with HTC it is a hardware issue (i don't remember the wifi ever working working, but i did not try it for the first 6 months i owned the phone......)
I actually received my replacement phone in the mail (thanks AT&T) last friday
My problem is that my phone was bought at an import phone store... So they can't really replace the phone for me (I guess they probably can't afford something like that). All they've tried was to direct me to other places to fix the phone. I'd have to send it overseas to fix it =(.
Now that's annoying, I got my phone second hand so really can't send it off for replacement
Looks like the data upgrade orange just gave me 250mb - 500 will come in handy after all!
Thanks for your responses people, I think I will add this to the list of known faults on the wiki.

Hello everyone, I successfully managed to Perma-Root my T-Mobile G2 as of this morning.
When I first installed this ROM (Virtuous v0.8.1) I really had high hopes for it, however when I first installed the room via clockwork reboot, I just clicked for a backup of my Stock OS - no clearing of data or cache files.
Upon the completion of the ROM my phone promptly rebooted. The whole process of rebooting took alone 5 minutes (at least) and I started to get weary seeing has how my phone stayed on the home HTC Screen (Boot-up Screen) for quite a while. And just before I was thinking of pulling the battery because it seemed as if my phone froze, it launched. However in doing so, everything appeared extremely laggy.
Everything was force-closing, constantly, even after I said to force close the program. It made it absolutely daunting, and I wondered what the hell did I do my phone! It was extremely irritating to navigate back to ROM Manager and hopefully be able to restore my phone back to normal. Eventually I ended up rebooting my phone to it's original status, and decided perhaps it was just all the previous apps and data on my phone causing all the aforementioned complications.
However I felt as if I should try again with Vision (Or what I believe to be the Desire Z Rom for my G2) and decided to clear all data on my phone when prompted - as well backing up my data for a second time.
In doing so, the restart process went smoothly as before. Then came the reboot/loading of my phone, and the screen didn't appear nearly as long. So there was a sigh* of relief there for me. My phone loaded and every thing appeared to working just fine and dandy - albeit with the expense of virtually all my phone data (Besides data that was obviously kept on my SD Card). Thus I was getting quite content with Sense and I actually kept it. Since I was extremely tired as I installed Sense/Rooted my phone very early in the morning (and since it's winter break for me, my sleep schedule has seemingly reversed) I decided to go and sleep.
Waking back up now, I decide to test some things, and ensure everything was going well. I sent a couple texts out, browsed the web, watched YouTube, and everything appeared to check out as running the way it should - except text messaging.
I was completely baffled as to why no one was replying my texts - I thought well maybe since it's New Years Eve people must be busy etc. No Harm done there right?
So I decided to pass it off, only to realize that hours later I receive several responses from the people that I've texted/new text massages from other friends. Yet they're hours behind!!!!!
Anybody know what's up with that? It's basically impossible for me to hold a conversation via text message on my phone now as messages are greatly delayed. I never had this problem with my Phone using the Stock OS of my G2, yet as soon as I install Sense this problem arises (and apparently it's Android 2.2.1) I could have sworn my G2 originally was 2.2.2? I'm sorry I'm just barely starting to get in the whole process ROMs/Rooting my phone, and getting more interested in Android.
Is there a specific Desire Z allocated ROM Designed for the G2? If so can someone please point me towards it? The description for the Virtuous Rom read to me that it was a Desire Z Port - so I thought I was downloading the correct thing.
However I'm sure if I'm having this problem, other people might have come across this problem? I mean it's no biggy for me to reflash back to Stock, and pretend everything is the same way it was - but I'm really taking a liking to Sense, and I want to see if there are at least alternatives - or perhaps I just installed the wrong ROM.
Thank you for your time!
I have just purchased an Optimus 3d and hate to be the first to report having random reboots especially while copying large data from internal SD to the external one (per 3 trial to copy an +300MB file to the external SD i have 2 reboots). The phone seems stable while plugged in (both AC or USB) though. Problem usually occurs while the screen off. I have it 3-4 times a day while not copying a file.
These are the things I've done to see if the problem would be fixed with no luck.
- Installing different ROMs (v10b, v10d and v10e all custom)
- Factory reset (to make sure no 3rd party app cause this)
- Trying different SD card (using no external SD seems to decrease the reboots, but they still exist )
Now trying to use an official ROM and will see if the problem will be fixed.
Edit: Tried with the official v10d, and still the same
Any suggestions?
[FIX]: The GB update fixes the problem
Am I the only one having this issue?
I get 2-3 random reboots a day too, usually while it's in standby and doing nothing

Sorry to hear that.
I was among the lucky ones when purchased the Optimus 2x. It was perfect without any issues. And now, just paid my due
could be a faulty phone, had mine since july 1, and hasn't rebooted once, even with all the mods etc
Noticed mine rebooted by itself yesterday,1st time i know of,i have had the phone for a few weeks now, hope it doesnt start doing it regularly..
I've had one or two sleep of death and one or two reboots during the month+ I've had it, nothing major but I think LG got something messy in their ROM just like with the O2X, hopefully it wont turn out to be a hardware fault.
Ive had mine reboot randomly too P925g(rogers/thrill version) also once and a while all my bars will drop and i will have no signal couple minutes later and its back up
I get 2-3 random reboots per day lately
Quick question, do you have Bluetooth switched on when it's doing this?

No, bluetooth always disabled in my case...
Im thinking that its a hardware fault

not happened to me once ?
i have had the phone since 3 days before it was released in the uk ..
i have most roms and all seem to work well i even tries copying a file bigger than 300 mb between memory cards and no reboot either ... so i have no idea ...
this is interesting as i am having the same issue as well. but mine isnt rebooting.. its turning off completely. i come to see the phone and its off.
only had it for like 4 days now!
Maybe your SIM card is corrupted??
Try with another.
same problem
I had the same problem. I can tell you that you can't fix it by yourself. Your phone is broken. I used the LG VIP service to get a new phone and problems are over now. This is a hardware problem. Will never fix by reset or re install. Tip. Don't use the guarantee service of your provider but do it via LG. The most providers will keep your phone and send him back without doing anything on it because the problems is not when you turn your phone on. Good luck.
i suspect a sim card issue as well. mine currently randomly shuts off completely... i've seem issues with bad sim cards causing reboots ... but again mine shuts off so ...
I'm having the same problem with mine, I've replied to a thread on LG's forums and now I've sent LG a email because I'm starting to get worried about the phone. I've had problems with signal but after a long talk with T-Mobile CS I managed to fix the problem where I couldn't access internet when not at home on wifi, it was set to use orange signal instead of T-mobile all the time hehe.
I'm wondering how would a sim card cause a phone to reboot? I've been using phones for several years and the only problem a sim card has caused is no signal and in old days loosing contacts.
I was thinking it might be a over heating problem but then since it always does it when it's doing nothing and I'm nowhere near the phone I'm not sure it is.
Well, actually this problem found me!
When I've changed the rom for first time, I got this problem moments after first flash. Now, I've switched to V10j, and today when my phone was connected to Car Kit through bluetooth the phone restarted, I made reconnection and the phone restarted again, then I made wipe for data and cashe(For first time), but when I connect it again I got the same problem.
Now, I will see, if it keeps happening, I will use LG Tool to recover.
Edit: I did what I said and evrything goes fine.
I used to have 3-5 reboots a day, but only when phone is NOT connected to usb, charger or pc, dont matter.
Now it's gone up to a reboot every 20-30 minutes, still ONLY when usb is connected, when it's connected it can connect for ages it seems.
The major thing that changed in my phone is the 10k update that came in about a week ago or so, but I cant really recall if the up in problems started just than, as most of the time i'm using my phone through OSP.
First i thought the problem didnt occur when the phone was running any program (eg. in my car i usually have heytell app running) but tests proved me wrong.
other odd things are that recently i cannot do updates or download thru market anymore over wifi, i have to turn wifi off or else it will result in an update or download error. Strangely enough the phone software came in thru wifi no problem.
Tech support suggested a hard reset of the phone, but i read now that this dont solve the problem, i'm not looking forward to a resetm because when I do a full backup thru lg suite, and it dont work either, gives me an error with 0/8 back items finished and telling me that not backed up items are removed from the the restore list (jeay!).
any suggestions are wellcome!
Just got my phone back from service, I was assured by LG that they have tested the phone and the phone is fine, I checked the firmware on the phone and it is V10B, I was told that they (LG service center) don't have the V10J,what rubbish!!! I will have to upgrade the phone myself, so I did, I installed all my apps, NO ROOTING, my wifi is set on never, I know some PPL have been suggesting to switch it off, well, I paid $738,00 for a smartphone, if I can't use the smart features of the phone then what is the use gettnig a smart phone? anyways, I put a web cam on the phone to record, this morning I went through the footage, the phone has restarted 4 times, I started the recording at 11:00 pm, at the 3:05 am one restart, then at 4:08 am, 4:16 and finally at 6:15 am, this is a major fault in this phone that is supposed to be top notch, I will be calling the service center today to see what excuse I will be getting. I have wasted hours in installing re installing and trying fix a problem that should not be even there, also taking the time off to take the phone to service and then to pick it up.
Hello XDA, I have a rooted (via revolutionary) Evo 3D, which since rooting last night, has been restarting every hour or so. This is the second phone to do so, and I have consulted both XDA and almighty google without finding a working solution.
First, the stats and the questions, so I don't get deleted
Phone: Evo 3D CDMA (Shooter)
Carrier: Sprint
HBoot: 1.40.1100 revolutionary
(Current) ROM: Karl's excellent Stock Rooted 2.17.651.5 Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420206
(Current) Recovery: ClockworkMod 5.0.2.0
Radio: latest official (1.06.00.1216)
Extra apps installed: none, except task killer*
*disabling/uninstalling task killer does not help
1) Does anyone know, or know how to find out, what could cause intermittent rebooting on two different phones, with two different Recoveries and two different system roms?
leading to my second question:
2) revolutionary seems to be the common factor, does anyone know if it leaves any dangly bits behind when done?
-Stuff I've tried-
I have tried different roms and recoveries, tried clearing cache, dalvik-cache, and factory resets, and tried not installing any apps. I have checked battery contacts and power.
-A Little More-
There seems to be no set pattern to the resets. They generally occur every half hour to an hour, regardless of whether the phone is in use or idle, and there are no force closes or errors before it happens. Other than this, the phone works fine. I do not, nor have ever, overclocked or messed with the clock of the phone. Heat likewise does not seem to be the culprit, as it will happen while the phone is idle and quite cool. Neither phone was ever dropped or wet.
I do not believe it to be a hardware problem. This is my second phone to have this problem after rooting. After manifesting, the first phone's problems were not solved by an Unroot + RUU, and I returned it to HTC thinking it defective. I got a beautiful replacement, which worked flawlessly for two months before I worked up the balls to root again. The night I root it, bam, restarts.
So again, for those patient enough to bear with me,
1) Does anyone know, or know how to find out, what could cause intermittent rebooting on two different phones, with two different Recoveries and two different system roms?
2) does anyone know if it revolutionary leaves any errant code behind when done?
I have access to Windows, Linux, and ADB, and can provide any readouts you think may shed light on the subject. Kudos and appreciation to any who can help :fingers-crossed:
Hi guys,
I've been a lurker on XDA for quite some time, and I just want to say, I absolutely love you guys. You're all very helpful and so knowledgeable. I can finally say I have an issue, I'm hoping is a software issue only, that I need help with.
Last week I was running Stock Rom Lollipop 5.0.1 on my Google Nexus 5 and now I cannot get a GSM signal AT ALL. No Calls, No SMS, and No Data. The same SIM card can work just fine on my unlocked Nokia Lumia 635. I am long past my RMA. What can I do to try getting the GSM to work and TURN ON MY GSM RADIO? I'm sure if the radio turns on, everything else should work as well.
Brief History: Phone has been dropped on cement before and got Screen replaced. My internal speaker got loose and I just got it readjusted by a nice technician near where I live. I've survived with this phone from Day 1 until now with some cosmetic wear-and-tear, but it was only from last week before I left work, AFTER I UNPLUGGED MY PHONE FROM THE WALL SOCKET that the GSM signal just dropped.... permanently. And what I mean by this is, the "radio" is off permanently (I cannot turn it on even with the option in *#*#INFO#*#* with SIM card inserted) even after reboot, airplane mode on/off, and APN setup (which can never be saved and hangs when selecting automatically 'detecting'). Note: The Phone can charge just fine and connect to the computer perfectly fine as well (in case you guys think it may be related to the microUSB port assembly). I have been taking out my SIM frequently, so I'm still not 100% sure if it is or is not my SIM Card Reader pins that have an issue.
I have fastbooted several factory images on this device many times from the Google factory images repository, mainly going back and forth between 4.4.4 and 5.0.1 which I believe are the best releases so far IMO. Even after installing the factory roms on this phone, (no root) I still get no signal no matter what I do. When I remove my sim card tray from the phone, I get "No SIM Card". When I put it back in, I get that message going away, which gives me the impression the SIM card reader is fine. My technician took a look at the entire phone hardware and said he didn't find ANYTHING strange. He tried using a known working back-cover with antennas to debug the issue but that didn't help. I don't remember what he said about the sim card reader, but I think that was also fine (will double check next week). When I got the phone back from the tech, he just told me that there are no "hardware" issues he knows of, and so this must be "software".
Any leads you can give me? I'm pretty tech savvy, and do understand things like partitions, fastboot, adb, etc, so any solution, even abstract, I'm willing to try. Google reps were pretty clueless on helping me out here, so I'm looking for some support, please!
I've also heard that this issue is not uncommon on Nexus 5. Is this true? How many users have been having this issue? I thought Nexus 5 should have been built great to last a long time... guess I was wrong.

Same situation on my Nexus 5 that started a few days ago. Thought it had something to do with the 5.1 Lollipop update and saw some users were having similar problems. Tried flashing different radios/basebands/roms/kernels to no avail. Currently running 5.0.1
Hoping it is not a hardware problem, going to take it to a local technician today. Also beyond warranty. Everything else works fine. Has always been in a hard case but dropped a couple of times with no prior issues. Any insight?
5.1 is the best software. If it's not hardware all I can suggest is a full factory reset. My SD card was not acessable and pple said try this and that command. No luck. Did a factory reset and got the SD back Oh and screen shots which had gone as well.
