I have just purchased an Optimus 3d and hate to be the first to report having random reboots especially while copying large data from internal SD to the external one (per 3 trial to copy an +300MB file to the external SD i have 2 reboots). The phone seems stable while plugged in (both AC or USB) though. Problem usually occurs while the screen off. I have it 3-4 times a day while not copying a file.
These are the things I've done to see if the problem would be fixed with no luck.
- Installing different ROMs (v10b, v10d and v10e all custom)
- Factory reset (to make sure no 3rd party app cause this)
- Trying different SD card (using no external SD seems to decrease the reboots, but they still exist )
Now trying to use an official ROM and will see if the problem will be fixed.
Edit: Tried with the official v10d, and still the same
Any suggestions?
[FIX]: The GB update fixes the problem
Am I the only one having this issue?
I get 2-3 random reboots a day too, usually while it's in standby and doing nothing

Sorry to hear that.
I was among the lucky ones when purchased the Optimus 2x. It was perfect without any issues. And now, just paid my due
could be a faulty phone, had mine since july 1, and hasn't rebooted once, even with all the mods etc
Noticed mine rebooted by itself yesterday,1st time i know of,i have had the phone for a few weeks now, hope it doesnt start doing it regularly..
I've had one or two sleep of death and one or two reboots during the month+ I've had it, nothing major but I think LG got something messy in their ROM just like with the O2X, hopefully it wont turn out to be a hardware fault.
Ive had mine reboot randomly too P925g(rogers/thrill version) also once and a while all my bars will drop and i will have no signal couple minutes later and its back up
I get 2-3 random reboots per day lately
Quick question, do you have Bluetooth switched on when it's doing this?

Im thinking that its a hardware fault

not happened to me once ?
i have had the phone since 3 days before it was released in the uk ..
i have most roms and all seem to work well i even tries copying a file bigger than 300 mb between memory cards and no reboot either ... so i have no idea ...
this is interesting as i am having the same issue as well. but mine isnt rebooting.. its turning off completely. i come to see the phone and its off.
only had it for like 4 days now!
Maybe your SIM card is corrupted??
Try with another.
same problem
I had the same problem. I can tell you that you can't fix it by yourself. Your phone is broken. I used the LG VIP service to get a new phone and problems are over now. This is a hardware problem. Will never fix by reset or re install. Tip. Don't use the guarantee service of your provider but do it via LG. The most providers will keep your phone and send him back without doing anything on it because the problems is not when you turn your phone on. Good luck.
i suspect a sim card issue as well. mine currently randomly shuts off completely... i've seem issues with bad sim cards causing reboots ... but again mine shuts off so ...
I'm having the same problem with mine, I've replied to a thread on LG's forums and now I've sent LG a email because I'm starting to get worried about the phone. I've had problems with signal but after a long talk with T-Mobile CS I managed to fix the problem where I couldn't access internet when not at home on wifi, it was set to use orange signal instead of T-mobile all the time hehe.
I'm wondering how would a sim card cause a phone to reboot? I've been using phones for several years and the only problem a sim card has caused is no signal and in old days loosing contacts.
I was thinking it might be a over heating problem but then since it always does it when it's doing nothing and I'm nowhere near the phone I'm not sure it is.
Well, actually this problem found me!
When I've changed the rom for first time, I got this problem moments after first flash. Now, I've switched to V10j, and today when my phone was connected to Car Kit through bluetooth the phone restarted, I made reconnection and the phone restarted again, then I made wipe for data and cashe(For first time), but when I connect it again I got the same problem.
Now, I will see, if it keeps happening, I will use LG Tool to recover.
Edit: I did what I said and evrything goes fine.
I used to have 3-5 reboots a day, but only when phone is NOT connected to usb, charger or pc, dont matter.
Now it's gone up to a reboot every 20-30 minutes, still ONLY when usb is connected, when it's connected it can connect for ages it seems.
The major thing that changed in my phone is the 10k update that came in about a week ago or so, but I cant really recall if the up in problems started just than, as most of the time i'm using my phone through OSP.
First i thought the problem didnt occur when the phone was running any program (eg. in my car i usually have heytell app running) but tests proved me wrong.
other odd things are that recently i cannot do updates or download thru market anymore over wifi, i have to turn wifi off or else it will result in an update or download error. Strangely enough the phone software came in thru wifi no problem.
Tech support suggested a hard reset of the phone, but i read now that this dont solve the problem, i'm not looking forward to a resetm because when I do a full backup thru lg suite, and it dont work either, gives me an error with 0/8 back items finished and telling me that not backed up items are removed from the the restore list (jeay!).
any suggestions are wellcome!
Just got my phone back from service, I was assured by LG that they have tested the phone and the phone is fine, I checked the firmware on the phone and it is V10B, I was told that they (LG service center) don't have the V10J,what rubbish!!! I will have to upgrade the phone myself, so I did, I installed all my apps, NO ROOTING, my wifi is set on never, I know some PPL have been suggesting to switch it off, well, I paid $738,00 for a smartphone, if I can't use the smart features of the phone then what is the use gettnig a smart phone? anyways, I put a web cam on the phone to record, this morning I went through the footage, the phone has restarted 4 times, I started the recording at 11:00 pm, at the 3:05 am one restart, then at 4:08 am, 4:16 and finally at 6:15 am, this is a major fault in this phone that is supposed to be top notch, I will be calling the service center today to see what excuse I will be getting. I have wasted hours in installing re installing and trying fix a problem that should not be even there, also taking the time off to take the phone to service and then to pick it up.

hello,
I know there are a few old threads about this but instead of digging up an old one I thought I would start a fresh, seeing how none have answers on.
I have a problem on my raphael, the wifi wont turn on, I click the button in comms manager and nothing happens, it thinks a while and then decides that it wont turn on.
This occured on the original HTC rom and the Energy 3.0 ROM I have on it now.
Has anyone found a fix to this?
Stuart
hard reset or reload a new rom
To be honest.. I don't think there is a solution to this problem. If it's the problem that I have, then I think it's a hardware problem. Since you've had it happen on two roms now, it might be safe to say that a hard reset won't work.
My situation is similar to yours, except mine will sometimes turn on (and turn itself off in a few minutes).
well!
mild pain, I have tried it over 2 roms 2 radios and a hard reset, so none of them fix it, I dont think it is finding the card properly.
I had the same issue, i confirmed with HTC it is a hardware issue (i don't remember the wifi ever working working, but i did not try it for the first 6 months i owned the phone......)
I actually received my replacement phone in the mail (thanks AT&T) last friday
My problem is that my phone was bought at an import phone store... So they can't really replace the phone for me (I guess they probably can't afford something like that). All they've tried was to direct me to other places to fix the phone. I'd have to send it overseas to fix it =(.
Now that's annoying, I got my phone second hand so really can't send it off for replacement
Looks like the data upgrade orange just gave me 250mb - 500 will come in handy after all!
Thanks for your responses people, I think I will add this to the list of known faults on the wiki.

So I'm sure that apps have something to do with some of the issues people are having but I noticed that nearly everytime my phone was freezing with the screen off or rebooting it was on WiFi. This last weekend I went to a friends wedding and I used wifi like crazy including wifi calling. I didn't change any apps or software on the phone and although I used it the same way the phone was super stable. It lasted 3 days without a reboot and guess when it finally froze? When I was back at home on my wifi.
My wifi used to be mixed mode n and g. I've now switched to g only to see if that will help since most of the hotel and public wifi spots I was using were g. Speeds are very fast still so I'm not losing out much. I've also noticed battery life better on g only.
I'll test it out for a few days and report back but wanted to share. Anybody else having issues should try either not using wifi at all or switching to a g only network if possible.
Crossing my fingers.
Thats a good theory... I connect to wifi daily, but only g not n.. And I haven't rebooted yet...
Interesting thought. My first one rebooted/locked up and it had nothing to do with wifi. I never even enabled it. It was just a bad evil phone possessed by the devil. My new phone works great with both wifi bands enabled on my linksys wifi router.
For those still having weird stuff happening...swap the thing out!
I hardly use WiFi and my reboots only occurred on the leaked Gingerbread. After the first reboot or "Screen of Death" I cleared all the normal caches and factory settings and kept it "clean".
I had 3 more reboots and it was dead in the morning.
Seeing how CM7 doesn't do this using their own custom kernel, I'm blaming the stock kernel.
I use stock rom, perm rooted, cr4pwares are all removed, applied paul's fix., juice defender balance, screen off setcpu setting. Use wifi most of the time at home, when not at home, only use "4g" only. No reboots nor screen of death yet.

My reboots or freezes usually only happen once a day or less frequently. The fact that my phone froze after finally getting home and worked perfectly while travelling makes me thing its something to my area. It could be the T-Mobile network /radio but I've rebooted a few times while on wifi calling.
Not sure about that theory. I use wifi 90% of the time on N only and have yet to have a reboot since I purchased this device.
Tonight mine rebooted around 7 times while charging it, talking on speaker and browsing. I noticed it was very hot while charging (40c)...I've had the phone since launch and had only one reboot until now.
I think I'm calling tmo tomorrow to swap it.

I am trying to get my new phone reboots by itself but I couldn't. I tried b,g and n only. They are all the same. My old phone shut off randomly. Hardware issue?
Except the phone is rooted and SIM unlocked, I keep the bloat intact.
My G2x doesn't encounter freezing or reboot after flashed back to stock. No matter wifi is on or not.
Perhaps certain application causes this issue. You have to check it one by one. Probably moving app to SD can be an issue (I keep all apps on application storage).
Could be the MicroSD. Someone needs to test different microsd cards on this phone. I used a Kingston on my old phone that had reboots, but Lexar microsd on the new phone now with no problem. I didn't get reboots until I started using microsd card. When I had auto shut off on my old phone, I could boot up the phone with either microsd or battery pull.

Anybody not having reboots use their Bluetooth a lot? Do you leave it on all the time? Do you use stereo Bluetooth?
I just realized the whole time on vacation I never used Bluetooth while I use it a lot here. Maybe another angle.

This is one I've been thinking... Cause I've had no reboots and never used bluetooth once..
I woke up in the middle of the night and this came to me - I have NO idea why!
I had two G2X's with the reboot/freezing issues, both in CM7 and Stock ROMs, with/without 3rd party/market apps. Both have been returned and I am back on a G2 now, but if we can figure this out, I *WILL* be going back to a G2X!
I had never considered one thing that both phones had in common - my MicroSD card. I never tested the phones without the card because it never had occurred to me that might be the issue.
I had in both the same Class 4 Sandisk 16GB MicroSD .
Is anyone else using the same card? Has anyone tested without a MicroSD?
It may not even be the card itself, it may be the reader in the phone!
I'm testing a brand new exchange phone now. Leaving it stock with no software installed by me. No SD card. It already powered down by itself once while charging and required a battery pull.
Brand new, as in brand new brand new, or an actual warranty exchange where they may have sent you a "refurb" that may have been one of the screwed up ones that someone returned?

It's a warranty exchange by mail. So it came just alone with no battery or back cover. It could be a refurb, but it looks brand new to me with all the little teeny weenie plastic stickers on all the buttons just as my original one came as. I think it's too soon for them to have started re-cycling unit for refurb, no?

Not at all, so many people on this forum exchanged their phones that sounds like Tmobile has many exchange phones to give out already.
This is my third device and for 8 days it has been pretty rock solid, Yesterday I had 2 screen freezes and noticed it had been rebooting randomly.(for how long I do not know but I thought at first the app was turning itself off, than learned the device was actually rebooting itself) Today while at a restaurant I lost data and the signal would go in and out. In this same place my Vibrant gets 3-4 bars of 3G consistently. Upon arriving at home I had the same situation but additionally the GPS refused to lock or even see any sats. After rebooting twice it finally straightened out. I only have a couple of days left to decide whether to get a refund or take the chance of getting one that has even more issues or just keep this one and hope for the best. Anyone else have these or issues like them?
Are you running stock? There is a patch that fixes the slow Downs which can cause a reboot.
LG left the device in engineering mode which is why it boots up so fast.
Root and flash the patch, or wait for official gingerbread, or foot and flash CM7 which is doing me good.

Yes, my data randomly gets stuck, switching to airplane mode and back fixes it sometimes, otherwise a reboot fixes it.
My GPS randomly dies and gets stuck, usually while navigating, only way I've found to fix that is yet another reboot. Cycling the GPS on and off does nothing.
Also, about once a week, the phone will crater, come back up to "system checking", decide it doesn't like something and do a factory reset! I'm actually scared every time I reboot that it'll come up reset.
Also notice if I make heavy use of the internal SD card, say, 1080p video recording, it'll randomly reboot. Defective memory?
Par for the course until LG figures stuff out. I wish this was like a computer and everything worked when it was expected to work!
Running the dexopt patch, rooted, and nothing else major.

Gosh, sounds like we got the exact same phone!!LOL Almost my situation word for word!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you really think that software patches will fix all the issues? I would like to believe but am doubtful. I went through the GPS debacle with the Vibrant and it still has not been fixed after almost a year for a lot of people.
As powerful this phone sounds I am hesitant of getting it because of the list of complaints. I think the g2 might be a better choice even though it has an inferior chip
The patch made a big difference with mine. After the patch is successfully applied, it will take longer to boot and won't slow down and laggy after a few hours.
I'm wondering if it was applied correctly? It would have to be applied after every wipe you've done. Thing is you have to remove the X-Factor from the equation. Flash CM7 and see if the problem is persistent or not. If it is, replace the phone. If not, then you owe me $5 cause I called it. There is a weird bug with the stock kernel. We are expecting an updated Kernel with the new Gingerbread rom that is about to be released.
@Jjday7: I wouldn't sweat it. I've been around the block and as far as hardware goes; the G2x is solid. The initial kernel is a little wonky but thank god we have CM7 right? I used my GPS today and had no problem getting a lock and keeping it. Of course I'm on CM7. I also don't have anymore random lockups.

I have applied it before and after GB update. I have hesitated flashing cm7 (have a couple of questions) If I do flash it and want to go back to stock or some other rom, would I have to flash a different kernel even with my nanroid? If so what would be the process for that? AS far as GApps I notice that you cannot use the one for tegra. All I have found at the cm7 site is universal which I suppose would be the one to choose. Do you know for sure?I have used cm7 on my nexus one but not on my Vibrant . Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
I also have all the same issues as the OP. Hopefully the update fixes all these issues. Did any of you notice the phone really hot when the reboots and freezes occurred?

So where is this patch? My GPS has been non-functional this morning. Usually it just takes a LONG time to lock on. Also, last two days I've been getting the freezing while on a call. Black screen, won't come back, have to remove the battery. Early this morning after taking the phone off the charger was the first time it froze to black screen while not on a call.

To my G2x friends above. Keep swapping phones. Don't give up. I was at my wits end until I swapped out a couple of times. My new phone has no bleed issues and the random crazy stuff has completely stopped.
lilaliend... take it back. get another. It should not do that. It will be nothing but a head ache/heart ache until you do. I get a solid lock within 5 seconds.
Jjday... if you get one, run the heck out of it the first few days to see if all is good. Any issues pop up...swap it.
This is a solid phone that seems to have had some issues with the first run of production. There are many detailed posts on how to fix any minor annoyances. TMobile sold out of them for a reason.
Swap bad behaving phones then read, read, and then read some more. The potential of this phone is awesome. I am a die hard WM guy who has been converted.
So .. I ended up exchanging my g2x in via t-mo customer support since I was out of the window of taking it back to the store (having 4g/wifi toggle issues etc, random reboots). The new phone is by far better, but I am having issues with the GPS still. It will see 10 satellites, all locked on (green via GPS test) but it takes forEVER to lock. When I first took the phone out of the box it locked within seconds inside my house ... should I send this back for another one again?
Hi guys,
I've been a lurker on XDA for quite some time, and I just want to say, I absolutely love you guys. You're all very helpful and so knowledgeable. I can finally say I have an issue, I'm hoping is a software issue only, that I need help with.
Last week I was running Stock Rom Lollipop 5.0.1 on my Google Nexus 5 and now I cannot get a GSM signal AT ALL. No Calls, No SMS, and No Data. The same SIM card can work just fine on my unlocked Nokia Lumia 635. I am long past my RMA. What can I do to try getting the GSM to work and TURN ON MY GSM RADIO? I'm sure if the radio turns on, everything else should work as well.
Brief History: Phone has been dropped on cement before and got Screen replaced. My internal speaker got loose and I just got it readjusted by a nice technician near where I live. I've survived with this phone from Day 1 until now with some cosmetic wear-and-tear, but it was only from last week before I left work, AFTER I UNPLUGGED MY PHONE FROM THE WALL SOCKET that the GSM signal just dropped.... permanently. And what I mean by this is, the "radio" is off permanently (I cannot turn it on even with the option in *#*#INFO#*#* with SIM card inserted) even after reboot, airplane mode on/off, and APN setup (which can never be saved and hangs when selecting automatically 'detecting'). Note: The Phone can charge just fine and connect to the computer perfectly fine as well (in case you guys think it may be related to the microUSB port assembly). I have been taking out my SIM frequently, so I'm still not 100% sure if it is or is not my SIM Card Reader pins that have an issue.
I have fastbooted several factory images on this device many times from the Google factory images repository, mainly going back and forth between 4.4.4 and 5.0.1 which I believe are the best releases so far IMO. Even after installing the factory roms on this phone, (no root) I still get no signal no matter what I do. When I remove my sim card tray from the phone, I get "No SIM Card". When I put it back in, I get that message going away, which gives me the impression the SIM card reader is fine. My technician took a look at the entire phone hardware and said he didn't find ANYTHING strange. He tried using a known working back-cover with antennas to debug the issue but that didn't help. I don't remember what he said about the sim card reader, but I think that was also fine (will double check next week). When I got the phone back from the tech, he just told me that there are no "hardware" issues he knows of, and so this must be "software".
Any leads you can give me? I'm pretty tech savvy, and do understand things like partitions, fastboot, adb, etc, so any solution, even abstract, I'm willing to try. Google reps were pretty clueless on helping me out here, so I'm looking for some support, please!
I've also heard that this issue is not uncommon on Nexus 5. Is this true? How many users have been having this issue? I thought Nexus 5 should have been built great to last a long time... guess I was wrong.

Same situation on my Nexus 5 that started a few days ago. Thought it had something to do with the 5.1 Lollipop update and saw some users were having similar problems. Tried flashing different radios/basebands/roms/kernels to no avail. Currently running 5.0.1
Hoping it is not a hardware problem, going to take it to a local technician today. Also beyond warranty. Everything else works fine. Has always been in a hard case but dropped a couple of times with no prior issues. Any insight?
5.1 is the best software. If it's not hardware all I can suggest is a full factory reset. My SD card was not acessable and pple said try this and that command. No luck. Did a factory reset and got the SD back Oh and screen shots which had gone as well.

Hi everyone.
First off, I'd like to say that I don't like opening new threads, and I always read up on my problem first, but I'm simply at my wit's end.
The problem is fairly common (not only on nexus 5 phones), and something a lot of you forum guys have encountered and tried to help with, with more or less success.
Basically, my WiFi doesn't work, it shows 'turning on WiFi' most of the time, and sometimes (fairly rarely), has a couple of hours where it reboots to no end, but I'm thinking that's a power button that sticks. It usually fixes itself after I gently but firmly stroke it (lol) and doesn't happen again for weeks. The WiFi issue started randomly, totally out of the blue, and never happened before to any of my phones (it might have started a couple of days after the last OTA security update, but I can't say for sure). The phone was a 100% stock 16gb Nexus 5.
What I've tried (some steps even multiple times, with different variations):
- removing the sim card
- switching airplane mode on/off
- factory reset (3 times in total think)
- wiping cache
- reflashing stock ROM
- reflashing stock everything
- flashing TWRP and rooting, and manually changing/removing either the .macaddr and .btaddr files, or changing/removing their respective folders
- playing with ownership of those files
- flashing CM, flashing a custom kernel and flashing Paranoid Android
- all in all, i've wiped and rebooted the device like 50 times
Honestly, I don't know what I've missed, I've been at it for days, and I'd be very grateful if someone would point out an oversight.
Also, what's weird, my bluetooth didn't work too, but after i tinkered with .btaddr and .macaddr, it now works perfectly, no matter what I throw at it. This is what gives me hope that I still can resolve this issue without paying for a new motherboard/phone.
Thanks in advance, guys, you've been truly helpful so far.
A defective wifi chip could be the cause of the problem and, in my experience, is not that uncommon. I have come across two n5 and two Samsung s4 phones that work perfectly except the wifi either won't turn on or tries to turn on for about 10 minutes.
I tried different modems, bootloaders, and roms without any success.
Yeah, sadly, that's what I'm thinking too. I had some hope because bluetooth works, but not anymore. I've kinda already made my peace that I'm gonna have to spend +$200 on a repair or $400 on a new phone. I'm just thinking if anyone knows something that helps that I haven't tried yet, please come forward, possibly before I take it to a service centre
Maybe look for a used N5 with a smashed screen and working motherboard?
