Thank you for this thread, waiting for my own phone. If you need, I can host files as a mirror in 24/7 with 200 mbits up.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA-Developers mobile app
My phone has arrived! It has very nice screen, but the hyped camera is worst than my old Nexus 5 (8MP). Very noisy, and not so detailed. Maybe the next upgrade will solve it.
The problem: is there any idea, how can I access my phone? I have an unknown device in my Device manager, but I cant find driver. Tried MTP and USB device too. Interesting: PTP (Photo transfer) if working!
Thank you!
Edit: Windows 10 driver is not working properly. Have to unisntall it and reinstall MTK USB driver. MTP is working now.

After updating, my 5 GHz WiFi stopped working. (timeout everytime) But 2.4 Ghz is a little faster, more stable.
Any change log?

No changelog. My 5.0GHz WiFi works perfectly though.
@joco1114 : have you noticed some battery improvements with the latest OTA update? Here I see huge improvements.
Nope, but the bluetooth connection is better now. And the troubles with WiFi still exist. The SSIDs are vanishing, connection stable, but no internet transmission. I've tried several places with same result. Used Veloxity for better channel selection, but sometimes I got 65/135 Mbps, other 0.1/0.5 only. Or 0/0... The problem mainly appears on 5 GHz network.

Here's Carliv Touch Recovery, but it's not fully complete yet. Some mounts still don't work, like sdcard, but you still can install root though adb sideload. I'll fix it up later.

Just like TWRP, get the "scatter" file from the Stock ROM package, copy it in a folder (new one, it must be empty) where you put the "recovery.img" file together with the "scatter" file, then open SP Flash Tool, select scatter, press download. Done!
Thank you! I'm very new in this topic, I had a Nexus 5, I used adb/fastboot to flash recovery. MTK (and SP Flash Tool) is new for me, so sorry about my dumb questions.
I installed the img file (succesfully), started the phone with vol-/power, but I got the original recovery menu. Did I miss something?

Uhm ok, so you might have missed something. After flashing the device with SP Flash Tool, turn it on with Vol +/Power and go into recovery mode. If the device boots to the OS before you get into TWRP, then it will be overwritten losing the work you have done before.
TWRP Recovery by jemmini.
All thanks to him!

Scatter file - here (need to unzip)
Drivers, SPFT, SN Writer - here
If I start the phone with vol+/power, I got 3 menu in very small font size. The first is Recovery. After that I got an open android icon (recovery) and "No command." title (or somthing similar). If I press vol+/power for a short time, the original recovery appear. Maybe everything is OK, but I press wrong buttons. There is no CTR. Trying TWRP...

The user iulian1421 has been kind enough to provice me with a zipped Nandroid backup. This means that we now have acces to both dual-sim, and single-sim firmwares. If you want to give it a try, flash the CWM recovery, unzip this file and place it in SD card. apply the backup through CWM restore option.

So, you want to root the phone? Alright let's get you started!
1. Download this file. This is a .zip I made which contains all the files you need to root the phone. It might be confusing at first, but you'll be doing this with your eyes closed after 2 times.
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?fxqckmx2jx6b573
2. Extract the files into a folder you like (mine is Desktop/ROOT, so that i cant forget where it is)
3. Shut down your phone, pull out the battery. next, plug it into your pc with the battery still out. open device manager, and youll see
* unknown device
*mtk 57*** preloader with (!) triangle.
4. Manually install the drivers for that device which you can find in the folder you extracted. Be sure to install the drivers provided for your OS!!!
5. After installing, put the battery back in your phone and unplug it for now.
The actual rooting process
1. Open the folder > Flash tool > run Flash_Tool.exe
2. Click scatter-loading, and select the MT6577_emmc_aa66_Acer_AV051_V360_1.003.00_WW_GEN1.txt file. (you can find that in the scatter folder)
3. From the list, check the mark at Recovery. (All other marks should be UNCHECKED)
4. Double click recovery, and select recoE1-superuser.img from the Images folder.
5. Click download, and confirm the popup with yes.
6. With the power of the phone still off, connect it to usb
7. Next you will see the progress bar turn red, then yellow, and if it's finished correctly you will see a green popup ring appear in the flash tool.
8. remove the usb cable from the phone, and boot into recovery mode (volume + and power buttons)
9. Go to the recovery, and you will be presented an android triangle! dont worry, just press volume + once.
11. Now highlight the reboot system now, and you're all done
12. Give a thanks, and subscribe to this thread. If i get the permissions from them I will update this thread with the new creations of Vache, and Paugustin, as well as my own.
#Update 2#
Vache has released a CWM (v 6.0.2.8) onto his website. Flash this one like you would when flashing any boot img (see tutorial for that)

Revert back to stock rom/ Unbrick device
Unbricking the phone or revert back to stock rom
This guide is written with the intention of being as noob friendly as possible. I know some things around here are a bit hard to understand, so I wrote it like this just so that everyone could understand.
First of all, you want to download and install the drivers from the acer site:
http://www.acer.nl/ac/nl/NL/content/drivers
* you might need to look up your phone model again here, which is V360 (you can type that into the model name bar and it will redirect you to the correct
page).
Once downloaded you want to download these 2 files:
Here is the ROM : https://truck.it/p/NSKm45nxjh
Here is ADB+ Fastboot: http://d-h.st/592
Once you've got both files downloaded (main rom is 600mb), unzip the rom first. You will get 2 folders:
* Database_Acer_AV051_V360_1.003.00_WW_GEN1
* Images
The Images folder is what we need most. You want to extract all contents from the ADB/fastboot zip file into the Images folder.
After you've done that (and assuming the drivers you installed are working correctly, a reboot of your pc might be required for that), shut down the phone.
Plug your phone into your pc with a USB cable (pretty obvious right?)
Hold the Volume + and Power buttons until it vibrates and shows you a nice little recovery menu. From here you need to pick the 'Fastboot'.
(Volume + is scrolling through menus, and volume down is selecting!!!)
After you've done that, you are shown the acer logo, with a small line of text underneath it which you can't completely read. Don't worry, its normal and if
the drivers are installed correctly it'll work anyways.
Now that you have set everything up you're ready to flash everything back to stock!
Once inside the folder containing the img files and adb/fastboot and their .dll files, you need to open a cmd in that window:
shift+ right mouse button > open command window here.
in the cmd screen now type this:
* fastboot flash boot boot.img - wait until it's finished. you will get an error or completed message in
the cmd screen.
* fastboot flash recovery recovery.img - should be done in a few seconds.
* fastboot flash system system.img - this will take long, because as you can see its over 600mb, don't give
up, first time it took me about 3 minutes to finish.
After flashing the system.img is done, wait for 10 seconds, then pull out the usb cable. Remove the battery from the phone, reinstert it, and boot it as usual. This should have flahsed your phone back to the stock JB Acer provided, including all apps and bugs that came with it.
great
i have rooted Acer Liquid E1, great, i waiting for next users happy we need big community for this big phone THX

Hi I did exactly as instructed and got all steps done right but I am not rooted.. Any idea why Thanks
Just tell us what happened. If you're not rooted it means something did not work and that is probably because you missed something. Check all the steps and try again. If you have an error message tell us what and when.

Hmm, can you check up on the drivers? what does it show when you plug in the phone while the power is off?
I have no idea wether you're new to rooting etc or not, but have you checked these 2?
ADB Debugging on: settings > options for developers> turn on adb debugging
unknown source on: settings > security > turn on unknown sources
I believe those 2 settings are your problem

Thanks for the reply man. I figured it out. I had to go to recovery and then reboot from there. One I did that I am rooted. Now hopefully some custom rom will appear.
hehe good to know! I was wondering if I had maybe forgotten something in the tutorial.. if you're a benchmark believer, im making a rom as of now, got the antutu scores up from +-2400 to -+2800.
Edit: I've gotten it up to 3k, quite proud of that!
I still can't make a real flashable rom because there is no fully functional CWM for this device yet.
I want to make a camera mod atm, but there is no media_profiles.xml present...anyone knows where its at or what the right file is?

Hi All, new to this forum... what brought me here is trying to figure out if I can upgrade the TF101 to android higher than 4.0.3 that seems to be the "normal" latest version you can get.
Issues I have are: lockup, freeze, twitter post (crash twitter), screen weird colors (need reboot) etc... Maybe I have some hardware issue... planing to open the case and verify all connectors are ok and well seated.
I just spent 4 hours looking around this forum and saw the KatKiss 4.4.4 thing... I say thing because I have no clue (and did not find how) to install this thing.
So! Is it worth it that I spent hours more on understanding how to upgrade, debug and all... or I just go buy a new tablet?
I saw some post around the twitter issue that did not work either after KatKiss upgrade, so not sure if it's worth it ?
I was looking at the Samsung Pro tablets with 8 cores... seems amazing! But pricy!
Anyhow, recommendations?
If you say... sure try to upgrade to 4.4.4 with KatKiss... ok, I can try that, but from the last 4 hours of reading/looking around, I did not find instructions steps I could understand.
Most of those steps I have not clue what they are!
These builds are designed to be installed from your favorite recovery. MAKE SURE TO INSTALL A COMPATIBLE ANDROID 4.2/4.3 RECOVERY!
TWRP >= 2.3.2.3 is recommended, new TWRP available here
Backup everything !
Go to recovery
Make a full wipe / factory reset (you can skip this step if you're already on KatKiss-4.4, if ever you encounter a problem do the full wipe and try again before reporting )
Format /system (only if Version<026)
Flash the rom
Flash KatKiss gapps
Wipe cache/dalvik
Reboot

Easiest way, use Easyflasher (If your TF101 has a serial number B6O or eariler (Some B7O), it is an SBK1, most B7O and all higher are SBK2) choosing the wrong one in Easyflasher will not do any harm, it just won't work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688012
1: Flash TWRP recovery with Easyflasher
2. Download KatKiss ROM #33 & Latest Gapps and copy to your MicroSD, stick MicroSD Card into TF101
3: Boot to TWRP Recovery by powering off the TF, then pressing and holding Power & Volume Down until the white text appears at the top of the screen, then quickly hit Volume Up once
4: Goto the WIPE menu, and wipe everything apart from External Storage (This will 100% wipe your TF, so if you have anything you want to keep, back it up, you can also make a Nandroid backup inside of TWRP, so make sure your MicroSD Card has enough room if you choose that)
5: Once everything is wiped, goto the INSTALL menu and install KatKiss ROM you copied to the MicroSD Card (Might have to select External from the INSTALL menu to navigate to the MicroSD Card)
6: When the ROM says it is completed the install, go back to the INSTALL menu and install the GAPPS you also copied to the MicroSD Card
7: Once GAPPS have completed installing (Ignore any messages about failing to mount partitions etc) WIPE Cache and Dalvik Cache (Might ask you immediately after flashing Gapps, if not, do it from the WIPE menu
8: Choose REBOOT > SYSTEM or POWER OFF > REBOOT
9: All being well, you are now running the KatKiss ROM
---
TIPS:
When using Easyflasher, you're gonna need to install the "Universal Naked Drivers" from the Easyflasher thread - use a 32bit Windows 7 for least chance of any problems, 64bit windows requires driver signing, and so do all versions of Windows 8.x, you can use 8.x but you'll need to disable driver signing mode before installing them
---
Any problems, reply here and I`ll check every now and then
ok here's the detail steps I did...
1) I have a TF101, B60... S/N, thus SBK1 (what ever that means!)
2) Using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688012
- Need APX Drivers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514942
Found those instructions that partially work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514942&page=4
Search in the start menu for Device Manager and open it.
Plug in your tablet via USB while in APX mode (hold power button and volume (+) until the screen turns off).
The driver should try to automatically install off the tablet upon plugging it in to your computer.
If it fails to install, you will have an "Unknown Devices" section in Device Manager.
Right click on Unknown Devices and hit update driver.
Then hit manually install driver. Point the file browser to the root folder of the extracted package that you downloaded.
For clarification: You downloaded the zip in the OP called Universal_Naked_Driver_0.72.zip.
When you extract it, you should get something like Universal Naked Driver 0.72 or something like that.
Point that file browser to the newly extracted folder, NOT the subfolders.
If you point it to the amd64 or the i386 subfolders it will not work. Hope this helps you out!
That is partly true... here's what I did:
1. power button + volume up
2. device manager showed "other devices" - APX
3. right-click APX and update driver
4. point to extracted naked driver folder
5. Cannot install - hash not present issue!
6. Found this how-to on installing unsigned drivers: http://dhakshinamoorthy.wordpress.com/2012/05/14/installing-an-unsigned-driver-in-windows-8-x64/
- Cannot find the control panel advanced startup menu!!!
Found those that work! http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/open-advanced-startup-options-windows-8.htm
Method 2: PC Settings
Swipe from the right to open the charms bar.
Tip: If you have a keyboard, use WIN+I and then skip to Step 3.
Tap or click on Settings.
Tap or click on Change PC settings at the bottom of the charms bar.
Choose Update and recovery from the list of options on the left of the PC settings window.
Note: Prior to Windows 8.1, choose General instead and then skip to Step 6.
Choose Recovery.
Locate Advanced startup, at the bottom of the list of options on your right.
Tap or click on Restart now.
Wait through the Please wait message until Advanced Startup Options opens.
After reboot, I could install the Asus Transformer APX interface.
downloaded easy flasher: http://yarr.ntg.cx/pub/EasyFlasher-0.8.3b-STABLE.zip
extracted and started with SBK1
Choose TWRP 2.2.1 and clicked flash
Tablet need to be in APX mode (power + volume up)
click flash and ok
Saw this on easy flash:
Running Wheelie..
>Tablet is now ready for Nvflash
Flashing twrp.SOS
>Finished, now reboot into recovery!
Saw this on tablet:
Entering NvFlash recovery mode / Nv3p Server
Chip Uid: xxxx
!!! phone update success !!!
!!! phone update success !!!
Copying those file to root of flash drive
- KatKiss-4.4.4_032b.zip
- gapps-KatKiss-4.4.4_20140720.zip
- fsync_on.zip
3) Booted to TWRP Recovery
1. Pressing and holding Power & Volume Down
2. when white text appears at the top of the screen, then quickly hit Volume Up once
Now we see the TWRP!
4) Goto the WIPE menu, and wipe everything apart from External Storage (This will 100% wipe your TF, so if you have anything you want to keep, back it up, you can also make a Nandroid backup inside of TWRP, so make sure your MicroSD Card has enough room if you choose that)
- cache
- Dalvik cache
- Factory reset
- System
- Internal storage
- Format data
FAILED!
Unable to format data
5) Once everything is wiped, goto the INSTALL menu and install KatKiss ROM you copied to the MicroSD Card (Might have to select External from the INSTALL menu to navigate to the MicroSD Card)
- Choose katkiss rom
KatKiss-4.4.4_032b.zip
- clicked home
6) When the ROM says it is completed the install, go back to the INSTALL menu and install the GAPPS you also copied to the MicroSD Card
- gapps-KatKiss-4.4.4_20140720.zip
- Home
7) Also installed fsync_on.zip
- This is optional to have more speed, but can cause data loss if tablet reboot
8) WIPE Cache and Dalvik Cache
9) Reboot - System
- Should see the new OS start - with the dog and colored circles!
10) After a short minute... you will get the welcome and setup screen
- Do standard setup!
Tablet is up and running... NICE!
Thanks a LOT!
Will now re-install my stuff and test... will keep you posted.
Do this detailed how-to exist somewhere?
CRAP!!! The main reason I updated this tablet was in the hopes to fix the twitter issue... that is, when trying to post a new tweet, the app crash and restart...
SAME issue!
Any tips on this one would be wonderful.
It's easy.
First root it. Rooting has a few basic common steps. just get the files right.
Then install the rom in recovery!
Voila!

ok here's the detail steps I did...

I am essentially trying to do this although I have a C20 so I use SBK2 in Easy Flash. However, after I do my wipes, then go to flash my rom, I get an error message that it can't open the zip file What is strange is that I have done this before and have had KK installed on my tablet.

Unsure what you are referring to?
1) Rooting the TF101
2) Fixing Twitter issue
As you see in the thread, I have successfully installed 4.4.4 KatKiss.

Great pleased you managed to get it working in the end, you can now update TWRP to either the latest official 2.3.2.3 or the unofficial which has been taken over by another member, that's possibly why you ended up with the DATA failing to wipe
Twitter works ok for me, but there are 2 different types of KatKiss, there is the normal one which has a speed increase, and the NonLinaro version which has much better compatibility with apps
Its possible twitter is not liking the Linaro version (Normal one)
Anyway, you are set to flash whichever ROMs you like now you have TWRP, but Id advise updating to 2.3.2.3 to avoid issues, that's the version Ive been running since it was released
Oh and SBK1 and 2 mean, Secure Boot Key, SBK1 was leaked and therefore very easy to flash recovery and other stuff to that required the key, SBK2 did not leak, so devs had to find workarounds in order to flash recovery
Wow Simon.
Already so much.
By the way you sound like a pro already
Now just follow what *detection* says.
That Rom is fast and smooth.

I now want to update again since I have some issue with wifi disconnecting and would like to have original Twitter app working.
So here's a couple of questions:
1. TWRP... before I used EasyFlasher that have TWRP 2.2.1
- I did not find easy flasher with TWRP 2.3.2.3 what do you recommend to use to update TWRP? Link please.
2. You said Twitter work for you and you installed the NonLinaro... right?
- I would be using this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2592890
That's good?
Any other tips, new version since you last post?
Thanks,
Simon

Did you reboot fully into KK before trying to get into recovery after flashing 2.3.2.3?
You need flash 2.3.2.3 > reboot fully into KK to complete the install > then reboot into recovery
Also you can try powering off the TF, then hold Vol down and Power until you see the white text at the top of the screen, then release all buttons and quickly tap Vol up to enter recovery

I have tried many time to do power with vol down and vol up... I see "cold-booting linux"... then KK, not recovery mode

tutorial for installing custom recovery (twrp) and how to root
Hi guys! Here's a tutorial for installing custom recovery (twrp) and how to root Leagoo M5 cellphone.
First turn on the cellphone, go to "Settings>About phone" and enable "Developer options" by tapping on the "Build number" multiple times. Then go one step back, enter the "Developer options" and turn it on, and also enable the "OEM unlocking" and "USB debugging" options
Now you need to install custom recovery by following these steps:
1. plug the cellphone into pc, unzip and manually install drivers by going to "control panel>device manager" (select the device which needs drivers).
drivers are located here
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4PwJKhC6foZZnBzY0RPQnhHX2s/view?usp=sharing
2. download to pc and unzip the twrp custom recovery zip file
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4PwJKhC6foZc1czcnZtRXQ4eUU
3. download to pc and unzip the Sp Flash tool zip file
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4PwJKhC6foZcWJQVThGTGhzaTQ
4. download to pc, but do not unzip the "super su" file needed for root
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B4PwJKhC6foZQzA0OGtYRTVRWnc
Now copy this "supersu" zip file to cellphone (e.x. into "Download" folder). Once you're done, disconnect the cellphone from pc and turn it off.
5. go into "Sp Flash tool" folder and run "flash_tool.exe" application. Click on the "Download tab" at the top and then on the "Scatter-loading" button to select a path to Scatter file which is needed to flash custom recovery. The file is located in the "TWRP_3.0.2" folder and it is named "MT6580_Android_scatter.txt". The mode for flashing should be "Download only". When you're sure that everything is setup correctly click on the "Download" button located in the top left part of the screen.
6. Now take out a battery from cellphone, wait 5 seconds, put it back in, and just connect the cellphone. Do not turn it on.
Windows (PC) should recognize the device, and the flashing process should start.
Note: if it says that there is no driver, then manually install it by following procedure on step 1.
When the flashing is done you'll see a green checkmark. It's ok now to close the app and to disconnect the cellphone from the pc.
7. Cellphone will boot to startup menu, you should choose "Recovery" to enter TWRP custom recovery.
When you're in recovery go to "Mount" and mount (select) following partitions: protect_f, protect_s, nvdata, System, Cache and Data.
Now it's time to perform root. Go back from "Mount" screen, tap on "Install", find and select "SuperSU_PRO_v2.76_patched_Cobra1111.zip" file and flash it.
When the flashing is done click on "delete cache and dalvik cache", and then reboot cellphone.
8. Let the cellphone boot, it should take a few minutes. When it's booted you'll see the "SuperSU" app installed on your cellphone homescreen.
You're done! Enjoy!
Note:
I've collected these files on the internet. All of credits should go to their authors, so please thank to them!
One more thing. I would advise you to perform nandroid backup of your cellphone. Go into twrp recovery and perform backup (all partitions), save it to sd card and also copy that backup to pc, just in case something goes wrong.

Not sure about battery life sorry, i'm trying to keep it charged
But i still have problems with youtube (however i'm not an experienced user): sometimes it halts, mostly in 720p/HD videos. The picture freezes, audio is working. Sometimes the video gets zoomed to the left upper corner with a black banner in the left. This could be an app-problem though.

Oops, fingerprint sensor doesn't work with CM.
Well, that's bad.
I have thought that the cm rom has the all functionality.
Better to stay on stock rom then. Only problem with it is sending images from within whatsapp, because it works on only one awkward way.
i wrote this before, without kernel source fingerprint cant work, same problem on my Leeco Le 1s..

I cant scan the whatsapp web QR code with stock rom... (Whith third apps i can)
Today Leagoo launched a new patch LEAGOO_M5_FreemeOS_20160728_TEST with some bug fixed.
Is there a way to un-root after fixing YouTube? MobileIron refuses to work on a rooted phone, probably because it's a security hole.
Thanks!
you can unroot directly from SuperSu apk.. try it..

Hello guys,
i have a problem with my battery ( drain out too fast - 25% in 30 min - and charge really slow - full charge in 6h+ !!! )
I suspect that this is caused due to the official update i made but the strange thing is that my mother's m5 with the same update is ok.
Is there any " official " way to go back to the original version to check it without doing all this process you analyzed ?
Ps. I checked my apps / settings, cleared chase, made factory reset, changed charger, checked my battery with apps and is in a good condition,
so i concluded that problem has to be there. Any ideas ?

Before we start this post, I just wanted to say that I am new here (like today new) and XDA does not have this device listed in their website at all so I did not know where else to post this rather than the General Discussion, I do apologize for this annoyance and please forgive me. One last thing, I am not the developer of this, I am only the poster person........guy...... ;-; ....... the person who developed this custom recovery is @lopestom!! Please give him the credit he derserves, not me!! With this being said, let us move onto the post now!!

When is TWRP installed?
Sorry, as a noob, I have no idea at what point TWRP needs to be installed, if at all. Andvance 5.0 isn't on the list in the official TWRP app, so installling that from Google Play Store doesn't help. Do I get blutwrp.img -and how do I install it? Do I flash twrp, too, or install it another way ? Should twrp come up automatically here? I'm totally confused with this guide.

This post looks pretty new. So I thought I'd drop by just in case you never figured out how to install TWRP. At the bottom of the guide there is this:

That download URL is TWRP. If I were to guess, the download is an unofficial port of TWRP. Since TWRP doesn't have an official build for BLU Advance 5.0, you have to use the file provided by OP (I am not aware of any other unofficial ports of TWRP specifically for BLU Advance 5.0).
It has been a while since I rooted the BLU Advance 5.0 for my friend, but I believe it is not possible to directly flash a custom recovery onto the device. That's why you need to install SPFT which was also generously provided by OP:
RonneyDude said:

However, in order to use that tool, you must make sure you have the right drivers so your phone and computer can communicate:

After you have installed the proper drivers for your computer and SPFT, you are all set to follow the steps OP provided. Any instance where it says "zip file" he is referring to the zip file you should have downloaded from androidfilehost.com (first link I quoted from OP).
As long as you know that, here are the steps 1 - 11 you should follow:

2. Open SPFT, and load the scatter file from that folder unzipped

8. Wait for SPFT to flash, popup with green check-mark will display when complete

I may be misreading this sentence, but incase I am not, I'll explain. The primary reason people install a custom recovery is so they can root their phones. In the case of BLU Advance 5.0, that phone only has an internal storage of 4GB, which I have recently learned is apparently taken up entirely by Messenger itself (if you download Facebook Messenger). What's the point of having a smartphone if you can't install apps on it? There is an app called Link2SD which can trick the phone into believing the external SD card space is internal (more or less). Link2SD needs root though.
After installing TWRP, now is when you can flash things the way I imagine you're moderately familiar with from your comment. The only thing you should need to flash via this method should be SuperSU, to give you the root privilege necessary for Link2SD. OP has also provided this:

As a perk, you can now root your device if you have not already with Super Su: https://download.chainfire.eu/964/SuperSU/BETA-SuperSU-v2.74-2-20160519174328.zip?retrieve_file=1

If you followed all the steps properly, you should be able to power down your device, and boot into TWRP by holding the Power and Volume Up buttons until you see the white BLU boot screen. From there, you can flash SuperSU.
Hope this helped clear some things up for you!

However, in order to use that tool, you must make sure you have the right drivers so your phone and computer can communicate:
After you have installed the proper drivers for your computer and SPFT, you are all set to follow the steps OP provided. Any instance where it says "zip file" he is referring to the zip file you should have downloaded from androidfilehost.com (first link I quoted from OP).
As long as you know that, here are the steps 1 - 11 you should follow:
I may be misreading this sentence, but incase I am not, I'll explain. The primary reason people install a custom recovery is so they can root their phones. In the case of BLU Advance 5.0, that phone only has an internal storage of 4GB, which I have recently learned is apparently taken up entirely by Messenger itself (if you download Facebook Messenger). What's the point of having a smartphone if you can't install apps on it? There is an app called Link2SD which can trick the phone into believing the external SD card space is internal (more or less). Link2SD needs root though.

While this helps, I've been doing this for months now... And now I am faced with the problem of the new OTA they just gave me, which blocks any and all root access that I had before. Now my problem is figuring out if I need to re-flash the previous version to my firmware or unlock the bootloader and just install a custom ROM, given that a universal ROM is compatible.
A way to unbrick?
So, I have one and bricked it when flashing a recovery I found when I searched blue advance 5.0 custom recovery on google
when I searched, I used the one I found at the blueroms dot info site
it is now in a boot loop, and I can't access anything except the menu between booting factory mode and recovery
is there a way I can fix it, and flash this?
Thanks!
Thanks for not only the instructions, but for accepting the possibility that I may have figured it out myself.
As a regular linux user, I'm not sure why the xda comunity depends on: SP Flash Tool, MTK VCOM Drivers for Windows and MTK VCOM Drivers for Windows 10 64-bit/32-bit. Especially at this point shouldn't there be some tools from Chrome OS? if not Linux itself? Sorry that's kind of off point, but your help is indeed appreciated.
Trying to Root
Hello everyone, I have been desperately trying to root a Blu Advance 5.0 HD that i just got. It runs Android Version 6.0 Kernal 3.18.19 Custom build BLU_A050U_V04_GENERIC 19-09-2016\
So The farthest i got was clicking download and plugging in the phone. It gives me an error and suggests i Format+download. Doing that semi bricks my phone and i have to flash a oem firmware. I even tried using the oem files and just replacing the recovery which did the trick in making it run, but did not install twrp. What am i doing wrong, Id rather not return the phone but i may if i cannot root it.
Thanks anyone who can assist me!
Nothing happened
Greetings,
I was able to install drivers on the PC and flash the recovery through SPFT and directly from fastboot but it didn't work. Although both methods gave me OK, when I boot into recovery I still get the stock recovery 3e version of the BLU. So, is there something that I'm missing?
EDIT 2019: rooting with TWRP from 038 read at the bottom of this post
HOW TO.... Stock, Update, custom recovery and root your s60 !!!!
Disclaimer: if you brick your phone, it's your fault, i have tested this way of rooting my s60 now for a several times and it works 100%
SO READ TWICE, CHECK TWICE, BEFORE YOU CLICK ONCE !!!!! i will not take any responsibility !!!
!!! ONCE AGAIN, READ THE WHOLE GUIDE BEFORE YOU START !!!
OK, now we start:
Thanks to everybody who contributed and made the root possible, here in this thread (Cesarq, OpenMinded, Tuschi, BetonJohn, etc.......) the software in the link further down, is the collected data, freely available in the net and linked in the original Thread several times, i have only bundled one package and wrote this, hopefully usefull guide.
in principle do as follows: (I will only explain once how to sideload or load via recovery, afterwards i will only state what kind and what file)
Prerequisites
- switch phone OFF
- download my collection of the essential s60 files : Here is my collection
EDIT 2019: - grap the 035 update here from the Thread: Thanks to tusch00101
i did not find the 038 update as a single zip file to download. if somebody could provide it ?
(there are ALL files included to flash stock, update to .035, flash twrp recovery and root.)
(this is for Win7 x86, you have to check if it works for other versions yourself, sy..)
- install USB drivers
(for recovery and adb !!! There are two different USB drivers needed)
- install "minimal ADB and fastboot"
- copy the two updates (update032.zip & update033.zip) into the folder, where you have installed "minimal ADB and fastboot" (makes live easier later)
- install QPST (the version of QPST is the one from Androidmtk and should be virusfree.)
(The version of QFIL in my collection is the one without reboot, so you have to reset/reboot your phone manually (resetbutton below hatchdoor on your phone) whenever stated in this guide.)
- format micro SD card in fat32 ! and copy SuperSU.zip onto it. Then insert microSD card into your phone.
- switch phone ON
- enable Developer Options, by going into the settings menu and go to "About Device". tip/touch/tap 7x the -build number- field. A message will appear: "You're now developer" (something like this)
- enable USB-debugging. Go again to settings, then "Developer Options" and enable USB-debugging.(flick the switch)
- connect a WORKING USB cable to your phone (Not to your PC atm !!!)
- dial *#06# to see the iMEI('s) of either one or both simslots. dial #02# to check what firmware version you are on
(just for your info: It looks like the "S" in the firmware version (LTE_X.....) indicates, that SingleSim only is activated, while the "D" stands for DualSim activated. my s60 had an "S"... )
(In my phone the second Sim slot (under the microSD card slot), was blocked with a small piece of, simcard shaped, black plastic. With the help of some tweezers the scrap
plastic was gone easily. Anyway --- BE CAREFULL --- when removing it.)
If you are allready on an LTE_D... Firmware version 033 or above (atm only confirmed up to 035) and you want to root with custom recovery, you only need to follow the last step in this guide ("getting twrp and Root") everybody else, continue reading...
getting twrp (for saving your old firmware only)
- power off phone.
- start minimal adb on your PC
- start QFIL (part of QPST) on your PC
- press VOL+ & VOL- simultanousely and connect phone with PC (it will vibrate once, top right LED starts blinking red, screen stays black) (- DOWNLOAD MODE -)
(just in case: to leave Download mode, disconnect phone from PC, press and hold power button for apprx. 15 seconds)
- as soon as you connect your phone to the PC, QFIL should show the Phone/port in the topline allready
(if not, either try to manually select the port, or you probably still have a problem with the USB drivers or the USB cable !)
- QFIL - tick "Flat Build" (top left)
- QFIL - select Programmer, "browse" to the saved location of "update-twrp-recovery-nobootpatch" and select the "prog_emmc.blablabla...mbn" file and doubleclick
- QFIL - "load XML" ,select rawprogramm, doubleclick, select patch0, doubleclick
- QFIL - click on "download"
- if everything was OK up till now, it should start download - BE PATIENT- and read the status window on QFIL, when it shows "finish download"....
- disconnect phone from PC
- press and hold simultanousely POWER and VOL+ (- RECOVERY MODE -) AND...
- ... use a small tool to push the reset button on the phone under the hatch, while still pressing Power and Vol+ !
- the phone should now be in twrp recovery. If so, do a full backup now to your (allready inserted and fat32 formatted) microSD card!!!
when done
- Power off your phone !
flashing stock 31.02
- enter download mode again (Vol+ & Vol-, connect phone to PC.......)
- this time in QFIL, browse in programmer path to "s60_stockFW_31.02" and select the programmer from there
- load XML's (the ones that belong to Stock31.02)
- start download... this will take a while !!!! BE PATIENT !!!!
- when QFIL status window shows finish download, push the reset button on the phone and let it reboot.
(it is normal, that the phone should restart itself 2, maximum 3 times during the first startup, but sometimes it ends up in a bootloop (Cat Logo, reboot, CAT logo, reboot, etc, etc, .......))
(The bootloop mainly happens, if you clear, in twrp recovery, the whole OS, or if you came from another firmware version (LTE_S... -> LTE_D... i.e., but that's no issue either...).
- if it ends up in a bootloop, no worries, just continue ! Believe me, i did this process now several times !
you are back on stock 31.02 !
- Power off your phone again
Updating to 032
- bring up minimal ADB sideload on your PC (start it, if not allready done in previous step (getting twrp)).
- press and hold POWER and VOL+ button on your phone
- when in stock recovery select (with Volume keys) "adb sideload" and click the Powerbutton
- connect your phone to the PC
- on PC, type into the black ADB Terminal window "adb sideload update032.zip" and hit enter
- if correct USB drivers are installed, phone will start downloading the update now.
- when complete, select clear cache, and clear data then reboot your phone.
(again, same as in the step (flashing stock), if bootloop, no worries, just continue, if it boots up, let it boot up and then..)
you're on 032 now
- Power off the phone again
Updating to 033
- do the same steps as described under "Updating to 032" only difference, type in adb window " adb sideload update033.zip"
EDIT2019: - do the same steps for 035 and 038
(After updating to 038, your phone should boot up normally by now. NO MORE BOOTLOOP !)
getting twrp and Root
- this is the same step as above "getting twrp" only difference, this time, no backup needed and...
- when in twrp-recovery, select "install" browse to your micro SD-card, and...
- install SuperSU.zip from SDcard.
- once more, clear cache and data and reboot.
The phone should boot up now, you should be on FW 033, with custom recovery and root !!!
That's all !!!
Oh, one last thing, whoever is having an s60, where only one simslot is working, this guide unlocks the second Simslot as well !!!
Also the problem, some people had, following the other guides (incorrectly) ! (me included) ! , by not using the right QFIL (the one without reboot), in the old Thread, resulting in a
not working WIFI is no issue anymore
EDIT 2019 !!!
Getting TWRP with stock 038 thanks to: CDMCCDMC for the addition !
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77978181&postcount=135
thanks for the awesome guide. works perfectly, but i will say every time I plugged my phone in it recognized it as a new device and had to reinstall drivers.... the first few times i did it i thought QFIL froze so i unplugged to reset, this caused an install failure that could not be rectified. I fixed this by uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers from step one and being more patient.
Dear adtbm,
the firmware updates (both) are extracted... became signature failure.
Please update your very useful package... thx
best regards
yanardag
Please i cant use my phone it hangs in a bootloop i need the update.zip 32 and 33

If you don't have Wifi after going to 033, you didn't followed the part of "getting twrp" correctly.
"...... - if everything was OK up till now, it should start download - BE PATIENT- and read the status window on QFIL, when it shows "finish download"....

If you let the phone reboot after flashing the recovery, it will overwrite the boot and your wifi is gone !
But nice to hear, that everything is OK now. Do you have problems with 035 ? some people report, that they having issues with the display camera on 035 ...
Sorry for this silly question, but i´ve seen that in other models once you install twrp then you can flash super su, why here you have to downgrade to 0.31 first?
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
not sure, if you have read the complete guide, or if you have read through the 28 pages of the original Thread.
I think, it could be possible, (but i did not tested it) to flash the recovery via QFIL directly and then install SuperSU, without going back to 031. But since there are models of the s60 out, where only one Simslot is available (Please read my guide), to get the second slot activated you have to flash an LTE_D... firmware and, thanks to Cesarq, we (only) have atm his 031 firmware available, which is luckywise an LTE_D. firmware !
Like i mentioned in this guide allready, i did not found out the way how to root the s60 (the credit goes to Cesarq) and i also did not find out, how to update to 033 (this credit goes to OpenMinded), i have only collected the software & tools, bundled it and wrote this guide, with the available information written throughout the 28 pages of the original Thread.
So please feel free and test it and write us your result !
ok, just did my s60 last night, everything seemed to go just as described. i just checked and it seems it took the update and the dual sim activation. it didnt take root tho. i tried root checker and titanium and both say no root access. maybe i did the final step wrong? i tried it again with no success. am i supposed to be loading the nobootpatch recovery in qfil as the last step and then install su? thats how i attempted it. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!

I asume, you have SuperSU copied onto your microSC card ?!
When you have finished flashing the nobootpatch recovery (QFIL shows finish download), you have to disconnect the phone from the PC, push Vol+ and Power and Reset (under the hatch) at the same time.
Otherwise Bootloader gets overwritten, your Wifi is gone, no custom recovery and no root.
If you are not using the version of QFIL from my package, you probably have a version that automatically reboots when download is finished and you're screwed !!!
If you did it correctly your phone should boot into twrp custom recovery and you should be able to install SuperSU from SD.

Yes I did have it copied and installed it. I went back and did it again and hit wipe dalvic cache instead of going back in the recovery menu and wiping cache and data. Up and running 33 rooted, everything seems good so far! Thanks [emoji2]

I took your advice and rooted without downgrading firmware. My CAT is double SIM from factory and on 0.35 OTA.
I followed your guide but jumped from backup with twrp to install supersu, following all the steps from there.
Until now everything working fine with root.
One more time I can say that people on XDA is the best!

Dear friends,
How can i uninstall google assistant apk?
When i delete it the phone not restart and ended in a bootloop.
When i deactivate it the same bootloop.
very very good
Hello to this wonderful group. I did the rooting and it worked wonders, I was very disappointed with my Cat s60, for not being able to use the second sim and for the poor quality of the camera. After the root it became dualsim and the camera improved a lot. in addition to everything that means to be root. I am very grateful to ADTBM and to all those who made this possible. thanks thanks. regards

Hi Yanardag,
i have the same problem. Unfortunatley Android IS Google . I really don't know how to disable it. Did you try to freeze it with Titanium ?
That's the only thing i could think of. I am annoyed by that Google stuff as well (especially the google assistant....)
This is one of the reasons, why i had to redo my s60 a several times.
So if anybody here finds a way to disable Google assistant, pleasse let us know !!!
@varonv: Nice to hear and thanks for the feedback !
Hi,
I am on 027 now. No OTA update available. Can I try this guide?
Thanks
