Hello,
Is there a way to resize the partitions, so as to get more internal storage?
I've read an article describing the process sometime ago, but couldn't locate it now..
Could anyone point me towards some specific articles..
Thanks.

I've been reading into this topic for two days now, and I still did not have what I need.
From the installer scripts, and such, I saw that almost every partition is mounted as /dev/block/mmcblk0p[n]. But teardown images show that the Transformer actually got a built in NAND memory(Kingston 16/32GB), not an internal SD.
So, my question is, which one is correct? Is it an SD card, a NAND chip, or what?
I think both are correct. I think there are 2 partitions on the nand, one for the os and the other one acts as an internal sdcard. Because when you wipe and factory reset the system, all the data on the internal storage are preserved.
Then why is the system partition referred as /dev/block/mmcblk0p1, and such? Staging can be understood, as it is the easiest to refer as such partition, but system, etc, are totally unnecessary, mtd partitions would be the most AOSP way :S
I mostly need this info as I'm setting up a CyanogenMod device tree, and for that there is a new switch (BOARD_HAS_INTERNAL_SD), and for that I have to decide how to go with...
Sorry I can't help you more. I'm just assuming. Hope someone can help you better.

Hello, Folks- Apologies for the questions that are to follow, but I've pored forums, how-to's, etc., and have not been able to find a clear all-in-one post that addresses the questions I have. I've been able to cobble together information from various posts, but some of the information seems to conflict and some of the information I just plain can't put together, especially when comparing older posts with newer. I have a rooted EVO 4G, use ROM Manager, Clockwordmod, and primarily CM7 daily builds although I like to play with other ROMS. I'll try to put the questions in what I consider the order of importance.
1. Is it even preferable to use sd-ext over the standard .android_secure location for apps moved to the SD card? I've noticed that Clockwordmod backs the .android_secure, data, etc. folders when doing a ROM backup and they restore just fine whenever I'm playing around with different ROMs. Also, I recall seeing that some ROMS don't support sd-ext application storage which makes me feel a bit hinky.
2. I'm a very experienced Linux user and would prefer to use GParted to resize the current fat32 partition to keep the data already existing there, and then add and ext3 partition. Just to be safe I plan to move all sd card apps back to the phone beforehand. Is it advisable to do it this way or will the data remaining on the fat32 partition screw things up once I start using the ext3 partition?
3. When using GParted (if that's advisable), do I need to specify the mount point for the new ext3 partition or would a ROM/Clockworkmod/ROM Manager automatically recognize it and mount it appropriately for SD app usage without my specifying the mount point?
4. If I do need specify a mount point in GParted, what should the mount and folder be called?
5. And finally, do I need to use a third-party app along with all this to get the app storage to sd-ext working? CM7 appears to have its own setting for using ext3, hence this question.
Once again, apologies for these basic questions, but I've run into so much old/new and conflicting/incomplete information on these topics that I can't tell what info is outdated or valid. Thanks to anyone willing to wade through this long post!

Worked fine, but CWM backup still says "No sd-ext found. Skipping."
Being the fiddle-monkey I am, I went ahead and did what I described above.
I did not label the partition in GParted. I used S2E and everything seems to have gone quite well. I have tons of free on-board memory now.
The only remaining question I have is this:
I did a Clockwordmod backup, and it appeared to be backing up all the apps I have installed judging from the file names that flew by. However at the end of the backup the familiar message "No sd-ext found. Skipping." appeared. I seem to recall reading something about this but did not understand why that message still comes up for some people. I know (?) that the apps have migrated because of the free space on board.
Can someone explain this? Am I headed towards trouble in the future?

I was also searching for the answers to the questions raised in your first post. I think they are well answered in the post:

Not sure about the second post though :-(
I will post my results once I do a backup via CWM-recovery to see if they match.
Hey, I'm a newbie and I wonder if this can be done. I've searched on the web if is it possible to expand the data partition (and shrink sdcard) to have more space for apps and I found a thread where is explained for an LG device and device's partition file (/proc/partitions/) is shown. In xperia L is something like in the attachment, where I think mmcblk1 and mcblk1p1 are data and sdcard partitions. So.. is it possible to do?, and if it is, a ROM can be flashed with no compatibility problems? Thank you for reading... Sorry for my english...:silly:
this is a AT&T version of Galaxy S, which is captivate.
In setting Storage page, It shows 2 different internal storage, One is about 2-3GB, the other one is 9GB I think. The problem is everytime I flash a custom ROM, it goes in that 2-3GB storage. So I am not able to install a lot of apps. I was wondering if there is anyway I can combine those 2 different storage?

Either you have an SD card or you have two partitions. The os is mostly stored on the smaller one. You can probably move apps to the other storage. Hope this helps!

newbie here. no sd card in my phone. but could have two partitions. anyway to combine them in to one? I am pretty sure when i got this phone 4 years ago, it only got one partition. but I had tried some different ROMs.
Hi
Thanks for writing to us at XDA Assist. This is normal, the first partition is your system partition, the second partition is your user-accessible partition. They're kept apart for security and safety reasons, if the average user had access to the system partition (root access) they could damage it and render the phone useless. No, you can't combine the two partitions.
No response in two days, thread closed.
Hello XDA, this is my first time posting here, I need help with my new phone and I don't want to screw it this quickly. If something is wrong with this post or something, please let me know.
My problem is that I tried to root my Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 6039A, starting with this guide, I used the "8GB stock partition" file because I never partitioned my internal storage, but it seems that at the end, my phone already had 16GB internal storage from the beginning, so I shorten up the internal memory. After that guide, I followed another guide (I don't remember which one) to complete the root, but it didn't work. So I ended up with no root and a shorter internal storage.
I want to recover my internal storage and root my phone but it seems there are no guides for my model and I'm afraid that if I try again my phone will end up bricked.
Which guide or which files should I use to recover my storage and root my phone?
