Hello XDA, this is my first time posting here, I need help with my new phone and I don't want to screw it this quickly. If something is wrong with this post or something, please let me know.
My problem is that I tried to root my Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 6039A, starting with this guide, I used the "8GB stock partition" file because I never partitioned my internal storage, but it seems that at the end, my phone already had 16GB internal storage from the beginning, so I shorten up the internal memory. After that guide, I followed another guide (I don't remember which one) to complete the root, but it didn't work. So I ended up with no root and a shorter internal storage.
I want to recover my internal storage and root my phone but it seems there are no guides for my model and I'm afraid that if I try again my phone will end up bricked.
Which guide or which files should I use to recover my storage and root my phone?

Why do you need to partition buddy? Do you want multiple internal storages, or another reason? I may be able to help here with just a little more info.
i would like to partition the micro card.ive read that its better to have it partitioned?

In some cases, putting a separate partition on your SD card and formatting to etx3 can be beneficial, especially with the Galaxy S devices. In day-to-day use with others phones though, you'll benefit far more from the extra storage than having multiple partitions. Do you have a Galaxy S mate?

I found this for you, from the Aria forum:
To Enable A2SD:
Backup your applications
Backup your sdcard
Partition your sdcard with ROM Manager with an ext partition option. (ROM manager is in Market)
This should start a special mode of clockwork recovery, which will partition the sdcard.
That's the only reason you'd want to partition your card, so that if you're running out of memory you can move some of your apps to the SD card. ROM Manager is very easy to use, but I'll be here if you need me Good luck!

To follow onto this question. 1st time droid user, limited linux knowledge. I am running 2.2 on a brand new optimus t(mobile). I plan on rooting using z4root and flashing ROM (maybe megatron). Sdcard new (unused) only thing I have done with the phone is install a bunch of apps (which I can replace) and load my contact/gmail account.
I notice that my phone indicates 143kb internal available, so I assume I will have space limitations soon. It is my understanding that one of the benefits or rooting and putting on custom rom is the ability to have your phone recognize portions of the sd card as internal memory and, thus, "create" more internal space.
Considering my phone and my desire, can I go through the process of 1) rooting (z4root) 2) backup (custom recovery) 3) flash new rom/kernal 4) dump back up from sdcard onto PC via card reader 5) Use your above method to partition card?
Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated, including partition types/sizes, process, procedure....or just tell me if I am an idiot and am way off base.
Thanks a lot
Hello XDA,
Before anything, I just wanted to introduce myself, and say thank you. My name is Tyler, and i've had a LG Optimus V for Virgin Mobile for a few months now. I've heard about rooting your phone, but have always been afraid to on the risk of bricking it. Thanks to this AMAZING site/forum and all the great and wonderful people that post on it, I did some research throughout the forum and found so much helpful information that I had grew enough confidence to root my phone. Now here I am, 2 days into my rooted phone! So honestly, thank you XDA, everyone has been so helpful and great.
Now, on to my question . I apologize if this is not in the correct spot in the forum, but I was unable to post in the development due to this being my first post. I'm trying to partition my SD card so I could save my internal storage space, and install to my SD. I looked at a few other posts, and gathered as much information as I can. Basically, here is what I have done so far:
1) Download/Installed Link2SD on my phone.
2) Connected SD to my PC, and using MiniTool Partition Wizard I created 2 partitions for the SD card.
As I read in a few other posts, I know there are some things to remember when partitioning. Please let me know if there is anything I missed. I created my first, main, partition. From my 4GB card, I made the first partition 3.4GB. Made sure it was "Primary", and a file system of FAT32. The remaining 306MB I created my 2nd Partition. This one, also "primary", and a EXT2 file system. Applied all settings.
3) Restored all my original files back to Partition1 of card.
4) Mounted card into phone, and started Link2SD. This is where my problems are happening. When it starts, I get a note about my second partition, and what file system I want for it. I am given the options of EXT2, EXT3, EXT4, or FAT16/FAT32. Any option I click on I get an error message. Every one says "Mount script can not be created.", but with a different note at the bottom. For the FAT16/FAT32 Option, it still says it cant be created, but theres another line under it saying "mount: Invalid argument"
All of the EXT's have the same error message when clicked on it. It says about the mount script can not be created, but then under that it says "mount: No such device" under that it says "ext2 (or 3 or 4 if that the option picked) may not be supported on your device. Try FAT32 on the second partition"
basically, every option I click I have no luck. I've seen other posts with it working on other Optimus V's. The only thing I could think of is the ROM? Im not too familiar with Rooting, etc. but I got it done. The ROM i'm using is the one given on this site from member: sublimewulf in there post with the HOW TO root optimus V. The ROM is "Stock Rom Rooted and De Odexed minus Bloat" (filename: "Stock Rooted and Optimized.zip") I guess like the filename says, its a stock ROM?
Any help, including a re-walkthrough, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
AND FOREVER XDA!!!
why dont you try partitioning the card through recovery options?
Hi, first of all, i have no intention of posting useless repeated stuff, and i am no dumb teenager, i have a Jailbroken iPod completely modified which was easy but i'm totally new to android, please excuse my "stupid" question but i am really lost and can't seem to find a guide to tell me the steps to follow now. and this is making me have a really bad time, i am having a headache and been trying to avoid to post but i don't know what else to do.
1-. I just got a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7'' (GT-P3110)
2-. Last night i just ROOT'ed it (currently running JellyBean 4.1.1) (followinf a youtoube video tutorial)
My questions are:
- What should i do first? i see people talking about "backing-up" before doing anything, how do i backup? i just read terms like "flashing", "clockwork" and other stuff but just can't find proper definitions everywhere.
i am trying to solve the famous storage problem (8gb tablet with 32gb microSD external)
- must i Format to FAT32 and then do a partition? (and what size the partition?), and if i do the partition should i swap internal-external SD? or maybe just swap and no partition? or is it obvious that i must format-do partition-swap?
i really want to make sure not to break this thing (brick it or whatever) so how do i backup the ROM (another term i do not fully understand) or the internal stuff... i don't care about the apps and content on the tablet i just want a backup in case i screw this up.
i've read so may tutorials that i have a lot of apps installed (Link2Sd, Voodoo OTA RootKeeper, SManager ads, ES File Explorer, Astro File Manager, MobileGo, App2SD Pro)
please help me or guide me to the proper way, i really searched the forums but so many terms i do not understand and can't find proper definitions that my head is twisting.
Thanks and please forgive me if i broke any rule. i also searched for the forum rules but couldn't find them, i just saw the video when registering =(.
AW: Lost in the way (noob) Partition? Swap? Backup? Flash?
For backing up your ROM the easy way, install recovery mod from market. From there reboot into recovery. Here you go to backup and restore, backup (either onto ext. Sd or int. Sd), done!
For your sd storage, you can try that:

Hi I have a question about my rooted Alcatel One Touch Pop Astro Model 50042T. First off I have rooted phones and tablets and moded gaming systems so I have a general-intermediate understanding of the process of rooting but I'm pretty much lost after that. (Also I do NOT have ready access to a PC for the time being.)
So my main concern is that my phone should have 4gb of internal storage and it is only showing that I have 1.80gb!! I know that there are partitions or divvied space that are hidden or you need special permissions to edit. Is that the USB storage? If I'm wrong about that sorry, please correct me.
So my question is how do I reorganize, modify, or even delete hidden partitions? Anything to return my phones visible 1.80gb of storage to the original 4gb? I just need to be able to access it again to install apps on it. If the whole 4gb is impossible, can I get it back to the 3.7-3.8gb that was available when I first purchased it? Please help!!
Im not sure its completely rooted. Im running king root version 4.9.6 and Purify version 1.5.2.159 and I might have installed a custom ROM or kernel but I'm not entirely sure. I got the pphone approximately 3-4 months ago and I rooted it the same night. And I tried multiple versions of king root and other apps and eventually my phone storage disappeared.
•I would install a root checker if I had enough space.
•I used purify to get rid of apps that I figured were bloatware but I still only have 43.82mb available
•I have transferred every app to the SD card that can be stored there.(If there is way to store system apps and apps that usually can't be stored on external SD I would like to know.)
•Im sorry this is my second post of this. I'm really not sure if I posted this in the right place the first time.
Thank you for your help,
Maxx

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm new to this and wrestling with the learning curve but I have spent time doing searches and trying to find an answer myself before asking for assistance.
I have managed to unlock my bootloader and, as I understand it, I should now find a custom recovery for my device before I try to root it. I have searched and searched but I have not been able to find a custom recovery which is definitely for my Android and I don't want to brick the thing. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?
Beyond that, any advice on the best rooting options would be greatly appreciated.
I'm running Android 6 on an Acer Iconia One 7 B1-780 (MTK8163).
It seems like nobody is working on this tablet... so sad because its got a great screen and is very responsive, I have also looked for a custom ROM or the right way to root it since it comes with so little space but to no avail. If you´ve found something let me know please.

If you're worried about the lack of space (as I was), you may use an SD card as internal storage. I did that, and at first, I thought all was well. However, it wasn't very long until I started getting the insufficient space message when installing apps. What I forgot to do, was MIGRATE the data from the internal space to the SD Card when I was asked if I wanted to use the inserted SD card as adoptive storage. If you skipped that step as I foolishly did, you may change it manually in the storage settings. Simply use the three-dot menu (top right) when looking at the SD card storage menu. Select 'Migrate Data' and it will push app data to the card opening up lots of internal space.
I now have over 10 gigs of apps installed to my 32 gig micro SD Card with 1.5 gigs used of the 3 (!) available in the included internal space.
Some apps still continue to install to the internal space. Simply move the app to the card manually (again in the storage settings). However, some apps CANNOT be moved to the card. Thankfully, in my use, these apps seem to be rare.
All the best!
