Suggest new ROM - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Been using DU from a very very long time. Please suggest a new ROM guys

Screwd rom
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

Yes, I unlocked and rooted my buddy's Nexus 5 and need advice for a great ROM/kernel combo for him. He has never had a rooted phone so I would like to flash a great first ROM to impress him. I have an HTC 10 so I am not familiar with all the greatness here, very hard to choose one with little time. I only have one shot to get it right without bugs cause I do not think he will update it lol. Maybe he will after he sees the possibilities. Thanks for any advice.

Flash the latest, supports ext4.
Worked like a charm! Now what kind of rom would you suggest? Performance is key as long as it's stable.
cm 7.1.0.1 with faux123 .42 kernel, best performance+stabilty evvvvaaaarrrrrr!

bonk away!
Now that it is finally stable, I would recommend nothing other than CM7 (that's because I have yet to need to try anything else). I have heard great things about Weapon G2x, though. Just remember: wipe, wipe, and wipe.

Try rooted stock for a while to get a feel for the phone. I have been running stock GB since it came out and am very happy with it.
there are soo many roms to choose from. just find one that suits you. you'll never be bored lol
I am bored, they're all the same just a little ui change. My best is Froyo for this dumb g2x phone.. I tried all the Roms that are 2.3.3 and they keep freezing l,rebooting, shutting down.. its very stable on froyo. I don't understand how others are not having issues but oh well, its dual and already paid for.. and plus, I gotta try to stop wanting the best everytime I have a working phone

Skyrocket From EVO4G

Hi guys,
I recently made a switch from sprint to att. I picked the skyrocket.
I had the evo4g from the 3rd day it was released and tried nearly every
rom there was. I am flash junkie.
What can you tell me or recomend for this new phone of mine?
I have installed CWM recovery, superuser, and titanium so far.
Not sure what rom I should try first. Feel like I was fluent in evo forum and roms. Not liking being the new kid.
Thanks in advance

You are going to love the Skyrocket! Unfortunately the EVO being out as long as it has had a much more solid dev area.
The Skyrocket is still young but really doesn't take much to make it fly.
I currently use quickwiz along with faux's kernel.
I have mish mashed some themes from the tmobile t989 section and used some bits and pieces from our devs here to really make the phone mine.
Honestly there isn't a bad rom in the dev section, they are all great

That has been my hesitation, very little to choose from compared to evo.
I have a friend trying to get me a beta version of vanilla 4.0 from his connects
at google.
I will be sharing if that comes through.
Thanks for the input
Flashing
While I am at it, Is it correct that flashing roms with CWM
will not trigger the counter?
And then to go back to stock just is odin to flash a stock rom?
Thanks
Correct

if you are a flash junkie I would flash all of them saving skyicecream for last because it is probably the best in my opinion and because as much as Sean(dev) releases updates, almost daily, it hard to find time to flash anything else because your curious to see what's new. any way welcome to the forum and happy flashing

In time yes...
I was very happy to help, Scott. I know from experience the ROM is worth the wait! Thanks again for looking out for us T-Mo folks!
Being the guinea pig, I can confirm 100% that everything works perfectly. It does take about 5 mins to wipe and 5 mins to install so don't freak out!

noob question, but how is a stock rooted rom different from just the stock version that comes with the phone, and what are the advantages?

The biggest thing is he now has a base. I sent Scott our system dump and boot.img files and he put something together, and while he couldn't test it, I did at the risk of bricking my phone so we can all have a clean base for ROMS. You're welcome

There are zero advantages to the "average" person. None at all...
Unless you fall into these categories...
1. Screwed your phone up and half the things just don't work right because you "read something on the internet to make your phone (battery last longer, speed it up, random useless failed feature here)" and it didint quite go the way you expected it to and you cannot send TXT messages (just a random made up example). This would be a great way to fix that...
2. You flashed "Dev A's" ROM and you realized that the color (random color here) is not for you and you are about to go insane but are on the road so you can just flash this back to get back to a stock look.
3. You want to build your own ROM for personal use and you really dont know where to begin but you know what apps you DONT want in the phone. Yo could use this base to get started.
4. Your another Dev that doesnt have the experience of setting up a stock rooted ROM and may need to use this base to get started. Many people use my stock rooted ROMS across a MULTITUDE of devices because they trust that they are as close to perfect in all aspects as possible. (I was a newb once too and needed to use other stock roots).
If you dont fit into those categories... Then this rom has no value to you.
@scrosler
Will you be supporting the Sprint version of the LG G2 with ClearnROM when it comes out?
I know you're busy and all and I'm not trying to rush you or anything but how's the clean ROM for T-Mobile coming along ? :fingers-crossed:

I am running Hyperdrive and it's been pretty good. My battery has always been amazing but coming from the Galaxy Nexus that wasn't hard to do. Someone correct me if I am wrong but I am not sure if axis is being worked on. I know the dev was going to attempt to release a new rom but decided to wait until 4.3 I think?
Sorry folks, thread like these get closed as they always end up being arguments over personal preferences and about which is "best".
users are expected to read, study and try the many wonderful product made to determine the answer to the aforementioned question on their own.

Which ROM, if any?

So I just bought my S5 from sprint, rooted it, and would like to try out some ROMs.
It seems that certain ROMs only work for variants of this phone and I don't want to install something that's not meant for my phone.
I can't really seem to find any ROMs for this phone, maybe because it's so new? I'd like something that really cuts down on the bloatware of this phone and maybe adds some cool features. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!
There is only one choice right now, but it is debloated so you might check it out in the Sprint S5 development forum. But with Xposed, I can get all the customizations I want without having to constantly flash new ROMs ... you should try it if you haven't already

Will the debloated rom work with xposed framework or only with the stock rooted rom?

It'll work. Not all features may not be functional, but for the most part, guys are reporting it's working well!

Not to knock any of the devs working on this phone, but it's probably the worst phone I've had as far as dev support goes. I'm still waiting for a reason to root. Really miss the ROMs from my s4 and g2. Wish I had more time and better reading comprehension so I could learn more about rom development and help out the few devs that are working hard to get us some goodies. I'm a hands on kind of guy so reading tutorials doesn't really work for me.

Yea its going slow but give it time, I usally build a few right away but im swamped at work so no time.
