I was very happy to help, Scott. I know from experience the ROM is worth the wait! Thanks again for looking out for us T-Mo folks!
Being the guinea pig, I can confirm 100% that everything works perfectly. It does take about 5 mins to wipe and 5 mins to install so don't freak out!

noob question, but how is a stock rooted rom different from just the stock version that comes with the phone, and what are the advantages?

The biggest thing is he now has a base. I sent Scott our system dump and boot.img files and he put something together, and while he couldn't test it, I did at the risk of bricking my phone so we can all have a clean base for ROMS. You're welcome

There are zero advantages to the "average" person. None at all...
Unless you fall into these categories...
1. Screwed your phone up and half the things just don't work right because you "read something on the internet to make your phone (battery last longer, speed it up, random useless failed feature here)" and it didint quite go the way you expected it to and you cannot send TXT messages (just a random made up example). This would be a great way to fix that...
2. You flashed "Dev A's" ROM and you realized that the color (random color here) is not for you and you are about to go insane but are on the road so you can just flash this back to get back to a stock look.
3. You want to build your own ROM for personal use and you really dont know where to begin but you know what apps you DONT want in the phone. Yo could use this base to get started.
4. Your another Dev that doesnt have the experience of setting up a stock rooted ROM and may need to use this base to get started. Many people use my stock rooted ROMS across a MULTITUDE of devices because they trust that they are as close to perfect in all aspects as possible. (I was a newb once too and needed to use other stock roots).
If you dont fit into those categories... Then this rom has no value to you.

Let's face it, ML1 has been a divisive update for a phone with a community that was already dying when MF1 came out.
I had been hoping that Beans, the Synergy team, or someone else would take one more crack at our phone, but sadly I don't think it's going to happen anymore.
We should be happy with what we have though. A stock rooted knoxless 4.3 rom to nandroid back and forth from and a healthy AOSP community that should carry us through at least another year or two (or until you get a new phone).
In the end, this phone and its glorious 2GB of RAM deserved better. By all means there's nothing preventing it from running the next few versions of Android so long as Qualcomm keeps providing fresh code and drivers. But I guess Samsung and Verizon had their own plans of obsolescence.
We just got the rooted stock 4.3 in the last day or so, correct?
I'm pretty sure you'll see some magic happen over the next few weeks and we'll get updated versions of your favorite 4.2 TW ROMs. I'd be shocked if we didn't get a few. There are still many developers with this phone who love Touchwiz, so why would they sit on their hands and not make it better?
Patience is a virtue.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I think in a bit of time they'll roll out. There were a few devs that said they'd update to it, but in no way should they be held to that. We just got a base last night, so I'd wait a bit longer. Besides, xposed can do great things for a stock rom.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
It should be trivial to update/reissue the 4.1.2 roms to 4.3, but a lot of assumptions need to be made going forward.
Until somebody figures out Safestrap or Loki for the people who took the OTA and are now enknoxed, these roms should require MF1 or older. It would be horrible if somebody released a zip with the bootloader included.

Bootloader was not included in the stock rooted released last night. And I think those that jumped the gun and took the OTA may sadly be out of luck simply due to it being much less time intensive for a Dev to build of the recent stock release. Unless I am misunderstanding you.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I know the stock rooted doesn't include the bootloader, but that didn't stop me from triple checking before flashing it a few minutes ago.
I'm of the opinion that those who took the OTA are screwed just like people who did the same for the S4.

Agreed. Realistically it didn't take long at all for 4.3 to be cracked open. That will be what devs work off. Anyone on xda that knowingly took the OTA either purposely hung up their flashing habits or are really hedging their bets that someone will take the time to help the OTA folks. I just don't see that when there is this new stock release out there as a base.

Chances are, the locked bootloader probably won't get any attention at this point. S3 is an eol device and cracking the bootloader is probably too big of a task for devs to work on now...

It's the truth, its going to take somebody porting safestrap because there is no motivation for hashcode to do it for us (most likely use the vulns in the s4)

Not really sure of the point of this thread. People were warned in advance of the ota not to take it. Now after a few weeks and some incredible work by a group of guys, we have a flashable 4.3. I guess you need to break it down into further detail to me what your compkaint is. Those who were patient and did not ota are pretty stoked right now. Those that didnt listen, well Happy New Year to all.

Kinda OT, but does Safestrap support kexec on the S4? I have been trying to port Safestrap to the S3 and *almost* got it working (everything up to and including creating and installing slots) but I can't get it to actually boot a slot. Even if I could get it to do that, w/out kexec I doubt it would get very far.
O.T.A.
I am so glad I didnt take the OTA,I dont know how I would make it without my flaching fix..I love checking out all the new roms. That new 4.3 tw that just came out on the 31 is smoking fast. The only bad thing is it started a new addiction,Xposed Framework!!LOL Im late to the party on that but Im glad I tried it(My Wife isn't):good::good:

From my knowledge it does not use kexec like what we used to use but a kind of hack to the boot.img that loads the system into memory.. The thing tho is that the s4 and n3 use the same vulns

I've got my 4.3 TW flying. Set all animations to 0.25 in Dev options, and did the same in Nova. Also modded my debug.composition.dyn to gpu in the build.prop and it's rivaling my cm11 rom I was on. I know it will never be CM smooth, but the signal and camera improvements do it for me.

I am currently on stock rooted NK1 on my Sprint Note Edge. Has any created or tried using a different ROM that works on our phone? Just haven't seen much development with our version of the Edge.
I'm using the same ROM for now... and yes some development would be nice... I was gonna start the same thread myself. We really need some activity, where are the ROMs? It doesn't have to be all bells and stuff, but something.... possibly with native Hotspot working, & the stereo speaker mod included. I wouldn't be opposed to some Vanilla Lollipop but I'm sure that's a long way off.

I hate these types of threads.
There are 2 ROMs right now, both stock. If these are not top your liking then you can build a new one or try to encourage some one to build it for you (digest what you want and put up some cash). Complaining that there is not enough development is useless, is like going to city hall and complaining that there are not enough parks, but then telling the mayor you are not willing to pay more taxes. Anything you are not woolf to do your self or willing to pay for must not be that important to you.
That said I've been modding away at my phone, but my primary focus had been on fiddling with the radio to fond a domestic/international unlock and enabling disabled LTE frequencies. To me these are more important then ROMs. I math work on ROMs later though. Using an international/T-Mobile ROM shouldn't prove to hard, probably will just need a few modifications and it would work.
I'm just running rooted NK1 with:
Greenify
CWM recovery
Xposed various modules
Sound mod
This combo gives me all I need so haven't really been looking for any complete ROMS... (yet)
More developme t would be nice, but right now I'm personally happy with this set up.
Now, once Lollipop rolls...

Hi there. I have a Galaxy S6 G920R4 from US Cellular. I absolutely love it. I'd love to have a custom ROM to run on it, but I of course don't have the know-how. I don't see much in the forums about my phone. I just wanted to start a thread and get some replies from others to show support and kind requests that have this phone from the same carrier. Maybe a kind developer will help us out here with whatever modifications need to be done to get a ROM working on our phones. I'd like to thank you all for the work that you guys do to make phones fun for folks like us.
I second this. I would love to have a ROM for this device. It's a wonderful phone but doesn't have the ROM support of the bigger carriers as of yet.
I have been waiting patiently When I had my Mesmerize, it really only took one person to bring support on, and I was able to use other ROMs through flashing specific stuff. This was with an AOSP rom, so I'm sure it is much different with these Touchwiz ones.
I've got two US Cellular S6's, both rooted but would also love a new rom..
don't forget us with the Marshmallow System dump of touchwiz!!!
This would be great... But I don't think an pure Lollipop will be available for a long time, since Samsung's drivers aren't public-domain anymore.
People with some know-how though should be able to at least modify the TouchWiz version, though.
Kinda wish that were me!
I have the S6 Edge and hope this thread takes off!!!!

This looks interesting, what kernel did you install after installing the ROM itself. I"ve seen Boeffla, SmartPack, and Phoenix for TW Roms for verizon. There could be others I suppose in other threads though.
Also, did you do anything with CSC, That's an acronym that I'll have to look up and I've never had to worry about that option. Debloated as it is, is really nice, I'd say it's one of , if not, the fastest TW rom out. But I'm looking for something to debloat myself if possible as I wanted the theme engine from another newer phone like for example the s7/8/9 or note series or whatever phone, but substratum would be the shiznit.
Thanks for the reply, and I'm still collecting info from everyone else the more opinions the merrier IMHO that way not only myself but maybe others can make a decision.
I ran Phoenix 15 a while bak and it was a pain to install and use. But the theme engine worked flawlessly. I have all the files from one of the newer phones I found somewhere that after you copy them to the right places and restart your phone you can use s7 or s8 themes I beleieve.
Ahh that's cool the csc code can meke you TW ROM think your phone is something else... VERY COOL>

I like phones that look like "official", "untouched" and don't use rooted phones in everyday life.
That's why I use stock SM-G900V kernel for both CID15 and 11.
But if you have a CID15 phone, you can unlock the bootloader and use any kernel, of course.

Yes, the most obvious options are the APNs for local operators (I'm on the opposite side of the Globe from Verizon ) and some useful features as the phone call voice recorder.
But mostly I use this ROM because it's international and contains many languages - I use 2 languages besides English in my everyday life .
On the other hand, SM-G900V is a very good and inexpensive device and works just excellent with this ROM.

Nothing special.
The main idea is to use the system image from a good international ROM and the rest of firmware parts from the most recent G900V stock ROM.
Devbase idea is great and beautiful itself but I think is not that much needed for G900V.
Personally I use this ROM in stock unrooted variant.
The ROM (system image) is flashed to G900V from SafeStrap recovery.

Personally you use which rom?
My issues or quirks so far, going back to older twrp, just the right one so that my SD can be read, and I think none of the earlier versions that allow aroma to function correctly, can deal with my ExtSD that is set as internal in storage in N and O. So, I bit the bullet and tried a couple taking care to flash the correct kernel in each case. However, my efforts were fruitless, and I ended up completely wiped. And while I keep a lot backed up regularly, It had been a while but I didn't lose much important stuff but more like stuff I just don't like having to chase down, like the latest magisk, nanodroids zips, xposed, custom kernel, and so on..
Either way, after trying two different roms, Nemesis and Noise, which I was really looking forward to running, neither worked well. I can't remember making calls or sending texts, but I do remember a lot of apps crashing constantly but perhaps there's more to do that select a kernel, the one thing they ask you to select doesn't have an option for vzw. The code thing, that's probably what screwed me on both attempts.
For those who are wondering, there's the phoenix ROM in the vzw dev thread. It does have the theme engine from Samsung. I just wanted to try something like Noise or another Rom.
Also I remember downloading the files needed from somewhere to add to a stock rom to add the theme engine. There's quite a bit, but I'm almost certain this would work, for the theme engine, but I'd like to try some of the newer samsung apps.
I kinda really hate going back to to stock based rom because I have a feeling it's not going to be up to date with security patches. That's one thing I like about running Oreo, and even Nougat, there have been several dev's / builders releasing roms with the latest security patches baked in.. RR for example on AndroidFileHost, I think I saw viper, and others as well.
I'm still undecided at this point, and I'm just getting my apps back and with everything else after my accidential SD wipe when I tried to install one of the roms. That really sucked because my last full phone backup was a year ago.
Keep me posted if you guys get any of those ROM's from there working.
Well I've tried a couple and none of them have cell service of any type working for me. I've tried Noise and Unique to no avail. Unique booted fine but no service, Noise wouldn't get past the initial boot screen. This is just my experience so YMMV.
Oh, I've had excellent luck with the Phoenix ROM for CID 15 phones. Everything works as it should. But I still prefer AOSP or LOS based ROMS. If I can only get data working as it should when I'm not on Verizon towers.
