Hello everyone,
my wife has an One S and is quite happy with it. she has only one gripe. sometimes the phone just cant connect to any wifi network. she noted it after a few days owning the device without using it much on the road, allmost just using internet at our house via wifi when she got a message that her free quota is used up and she will be slowed down till the end of the billing perios.
Sometimes (apparently when away for some time) the phone cant connect to wifi anymore. it does not show the wifi symbol in the notification bar. when i look in the wifi settings its constantly switching between showning the networkname and the encryption details and showing "connecting" every few seconds. because she has used up all her bandwith for this billing period i wantet to give her access to the bandwith of my contract via the wireless hotspot function fo my GNex. here we have the same problem.
when she restarts her phone it immediantly connects to any wifi network she has access to.
after reading a bit i found out about some bug in the one s but as faar as i understand it that leaves the wifi sleeping when not connected for some time.
i tryed the fix about the static ip which looked like it helped, but after a few days we are at the same problem again.
she is happy with the stock sense and her unrooted phone and does not really want to mess that deep with her phone, but she is also not really willing to reboot her device every so often (she had an issue with her old phone, HTC Desire, that also could be fixed with a reboot but she could not stand it and got the one s as a replacement)
is this a know problem with the phone or something i could get fixed from htc? some settings that we could tweek? would a custom rom help? if so is there one as close as possible to the stock rom that fixes it? so if it helps maybe i could unlock her phone and install an "allmost" stock rom so she does not have to handle a totally new enviroment besides sense.
Have you updatet it to the latest official patch, 2.21.401.10?
I believe there has been updates to the radio so maybe it will fix the problem?
the phone is now three weeks old. dont know about that patch. my wife is not here right now so i cant check the phone. was it an OTA update? cuz i dont remember that there was one. or do i have to download it from the htc site?
wife just came back.
cant find any note of a patch on her phone the version of her software is 1.78.401.2
when i check for software updates i just get a message that no new software is aviable.
i also looked at the htc page there i cant find any firmware for the one s. just the htc sync manager.
That is quite old version. And yes the version I mentioned was OTA update. I got it couple weeks ago.
I think there is two explanations why it isn't available to your wife's phone, at least yet. Either its carrier locked or sim locked or whatever it is called in english. Or its the model with the older S3 processor.
How to tell which processor it has? There propably is better programs to look at it, but for example you can find that out with an app called OS Monitor. Now when you open it, go to misc tab and look at the "Scaling Range". If its 384000-1512000 then its the newer S4 model which should have the update available.
Now if the top clock speed is around 1700000 then its the older S3 version.
just checked, its the s4 version.
phone also has no lock of any kind no carrier and no sim lock. its totally free.
it just has a 1&1 (german internet provider) branding. but according to the seller it just has a different start screen and a couple of 1&1 specific apps (that can be uninstalled).
Ok, then I have no idea why it isnt working.
There is this, but I think its too much of an hassle for a update and requires you to root the phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781033
I think you should take it to a service and tell them about the wifi issue. Maybe they can manually update it to the latest version to fix the wifi.

Right... well anyway the latest patch should have some updates to the wifi.
Hello, I recently bought a Galaxy S6 after using my Nexus 4 for almost 2 and a half years, it was a trooper. One feature that I absolutely loved on my Nexus was that if my phone was not locked (does not require pin to enter phone) then it would skip the lockscreen entirely and go straight to what I was doing last. However on the Galaxy S6, If you put the phone to sleep, upon waking it up you are put back on the lockscreen, having to swipe up to enter. I still want my fingerprint to get me into the phone and for it to lock after a set amount of time but I want a way to go straight into the phone without the lock screen if the device is still unlocked while using a pin/fingerprint when it locks. Is there any way I can do this?

Something is definitely a bit funny here. I'm finding the same when using Smart Lock. I'm in a trusted place and I have swipe up on the lockscreen then use my fingerprint to get in. Surely it should be one or the other, preferably just swipe if its in a trusted place.

It's smart lock, don't think it's ready or works with fingerprint security S6 the moment...try it with a pin or pattern, and a trusted device.

Yep thats it. How annoying. Fingerprint sensor is one of the selling points. Guess I won't use smart lock for the time being.
Samsung released a Marshmallow (Android 6.0/M update to the Gear app, the Gear Plugin, and the Samsung Accessory Service apps on October 12. They then released updates again on October 15 and 16.
None of these three updates allow the S2 to stay connected via Bluetooth to your Marshmallow phone. Phone will connect once, and then fail to reconnect UNLESS you do a "Light" or "Factory" reset. Of course you lose some or all of your data and settings. And then if your S2 goes out of range of Phone, reset time again.
Just wanting folks to be aware. Suggest you leave a comment in Google Play for all three apps, but who knows if Samsung even reads those comments. At this point I don't even know if the people at Samsung who need to know about this, are even aware of issue.
I hope this is fixed soon... I left negative feedback until it is resolved.
I replied to you on the other thread, did you make sure permissions were set for both Manager and Plug In apps?
I learned awhile back ago, first to update is the first to find the new problems. Automatic updates and being the first to download is COOL, but not always functional.
15 days, and still not working on Android 6.0 Marshmallow phones. Apparently if you are on Marshmallow, and hadn't already installed the Gear app from the Play Store, you're now seeing "your device is not compatible" and you can't install it.
A user on Android Central with a Nexus 6 on Marshmallow is reporting that there is a firmware update under About Gear in the Gear app that has fixed the Bluetooth connection issue. I don't have my S2 with me at the moment, so anyone with a Marshmallow phone should check for the Firmware. Please let us know if you're successful in repeatedly reconnecting without having to do a reset every time you go out of range. Thanks!
I can confirm that I have repeatedly been able reconnect my S2 to my Nexus 5 on Marshmallow after I installed the S2 firmware update that was available in the USA in the Gear app under the About Gear settings. I went from firmware version R720XXU2AOIL to R720XXU2AOJ3. I found that even after installing the firmware, I had to do one Light Reset on the S2 before the S2 would reconnect.
So far so good. Have intentionally gone out of range 6 times and reconnected all 6 times. Will report back if situation changes.

I literally sold my S2 Classic recently because of this issue. It's really fixed now? I need to learn to exercise patience.
Yeah, been working all day, so I'm optimistic that it's fixed.
I'm about to upgrade my phone to Marshmallow. Did this issue get fixed? Can the Gear S2 connect with Marshmallow phones?
I'm on a Note 5 with Marshmallow and have had no problems with connectivity to my Gear S2.
Thank you! I updated my phone to Marshmallow too and it's working fine since yesterday.
Ive got a htc one A9 running marshmallow 6.0.1 does anyone knows if is 100% compatible with the gear s2 i hear people telling me it is but at what end? Do all functions work with non samsung devices? I use a lot of gmail and whatsapp and i hope to reply via the gear s2 so just wondering. Thanks to anyone that helps

Samsung Galaxy S6 5.1.1 key strokes randomly not registering
The phones ive tested so far have all been the following model so i dont know if it affects different phones. Please post if your phone is affected.
Samsung Galaxy S6 (Verizon)
Model: SM-G920V
Andriod version: 5.1.1
I am on my 3rd replacement phone now because of this issue and just figured out why it is happening. everytime i get a replacement and update it from 5.0.2 to 5.1.1 is starts missing key strokes.. My current replacement i purposely didnt update and it works absolutely perfectly. I have tested 4 phones now and all of them have the same exact issue. I believe the reason most people dont realize it is because of word prediction. most of the time Word Prediction will put the correct word in even tho it misses keystroke. My brother has an s6 and he didnt even realize it till i had him test it like i tested mine. I did notice it tho and got really annoyed by it and started returning phones until i realized that they all had the same issue.. Worked perfectly on 5.0.2, but as soon as i updated to 5.1.1 they started missing keystrokes.
This is how i tested and proofed to Verizon that my phone was not working right:
disable "word prediction" in the samsung keyboard settings.
in the texting app type the first row of keys and press enter repeatedly so it looks like this:
qwertyuiop
qwertyuiop
qwertyuiop
qwertyuiop
repeat about 10 to 20 times. If your phone has the same issues as all my replacements you should see missed keys 2 to 5 times in your repeated words
Example:
qwertyuiop
qwetyuiop (missed the r)
qwertyuiop
qwertuiop (missed the y)
qwertyuiop
qwertyuiop
wertyuip (missed the q and o)
qwertyuiop
Cant wait to see what everyone comes up with! Lets get this to samsung asap for a fix!
My keyboard misses presses and is generally laggy all of the time. The same is true for third party keyboards as well.
I don't blame the touch response though, I just blame the laggy and slow S6. I have to reboot this thing once a slay if I want it to behave.
And yes I have tried fresh instslls, avoiding known problematic apps, and so on.
This thing has been a huge disappointment.
all my replacements were fast and perfect until I updated to 5.1.1. so if u have always had ur issues even before the update then it just might be something else with ur phone. do u know if it was working good before 5.1.1?

It never seems to happen to me. Might you be using the stock keyboard?

How does the debloater compare to the Package Disabler on the play store. I am using the package disabler, and don't really notice an improvement in battery life

Obviously some people may choose took apps like Facbook and instagram. Those are battery and performance killing apps. Anything that does any sort of push notification is running all the time and will drain battery and take away cpu cycles.
Disabling all of those apps is almost equal to having my own Custom ROM installed.
But back on topic... I have no issues with my touchscreen. This was an original device about 2 weeks after release.
Having a similar problem
Got 3 S6s for the family during the rebate sale. So far two of them have developed bad touch sensitivity. It took about a week to show up. It is worse on my wife's phone and that is not good.
When I did a hard reset and restarted it was good until somewhere near the end of updating. Maybe it was the Verizon upgrade, I don't know...
I know it shouldn't make a difference but increasing Pointer Speed to maximum increased the responsiveness of my phone keypad (but not the text keyboard). Up until that change, the dialer was barely useable. I also switched to SwiftKey and disabled (hide is the correct term) the Samsung Keyboard and that seemed to help. What makes this difficult is that it is inconsistent. I wonder if my fingers are too cold in the morning...
on the same one i got in may. never had this issue.
I honestly miss my s5 I think my s6 sucks, slow laggy battery hogging crap, can't figure why they took away allot of cool features like the ability to plug to TV for example (without having to buy adapter)waterproof I really don't care about, also miss having root .I don't have to many issue's with screen misses but could be I don't use it as much as I used to.
Same thing happened to me. Just got my replacement device today. Missed touches mostly around the edges of the screen. Started about a week after I got the phone. We'll see if this one does the same thing...

I realize I am just a noob but I have started debloating and I am frustrated with apps like the Samsung Keyboard restarting themselves on their own. These apps may be hidden from my view but they start running when Samsung tells them to. If these apps can't be disabled, then I feel like I am wasting my time on trying to identify the running apps that are causing the loss in sensitivity.
I have none of these issues.
if your phone stop responding to touch in random spots on the screen, uninstall Facebook messenger, that ****ty app is causing that.
Hi everyone,
I've been using a bluetooth keyboard (iClever BK03) with my Samsung J5 on Android 7.0 without any problems, but when I switched to the Samsung S7 on Oreo, it doesn't work. It either says it connected and doesn't do anything, or it says it can't connect. I've tried everything in the system itself. Is there a way I can make the phone recognize it?

The keyboard Bluetooth connection standard is 3.0 and the S7 is 4.2. Its often the case that devices are not backward compatible. Check iclever website for a Bluetooth firmware upgrade.
Also worth noting that devices will be moving away from Bluetooth when the new short range WiFi standard is rolled out.
