How is MOTO when it comes to updates?
I won't be selling anything, but I will be on the Bionic without a thought.

Moto is good enough with updates. I had a Droid X and the Froyo and other maintenance updates came out within an acceptable timeframe IMO.
Right now Verizon gives $200 for a Thunderbolt trade in. Hopefully it's still that much when the Bionic comes out. I cant imagine anyone paying much more than 200 for one of these considering all the problems they have.
Moto is pretty bad at updates.
I loved my D1 so I got an X2 as my upgrade and had nothing but problems. Popping in the audio channel when it went on and off (say, to pick up a call, drop a call, start MP3 playback, stop it, etc.). It was basically useless for taking video, as documented in several reviews (horrible distortion). It would often freeze for 1/2 second when doing something. Reboots a couple times a day, etc.
And no unlocked bootloader.
D3 released with Gingerbread. X has Gingerbread (although my stepson has had reboot issues with his). Still no GB on the X2 though. Amazing.
I'd be very careful going with Motorola at this point, and this is from a former advocate. After my experience with the X2, I'd never get a phone I couldn't run a custom ROM on if I had to. It's just not worth it.

So one device means they're bad at updates? I guess you didn't see the articles a few months back that showed the most updated android phones were made by Motorola and the carrier (believe it our not) with the most updates pushed out was Verizon.
Sorry, motorola is a close second.

They send you a gift card for your phone. I'll have to call and see if that gift card can be applied to a bill. If that's the case, Ill get a Bionic off contract and have them charge it to my bill (I did this when I got my Droid X). When I get the gift card for the TB, Ill apply that to my bill balance.

I wouldnt get it unless motorola ships it with an unlocked bootloader.

going wait it out see what xda has to say about the bionic.
As seeing that the Droid 3 Just came out and the Bootloader is yet again locked, I am pretty sure the Bionic is going to be locked also.
I went to a T-Mobile store earlier today, and ended up talking to them about the official OTA update for G2x. Turns out they pulled it because of "Issues it had". My LG update tool messed up my two phones, so I'm no longer trying that. My only chance for an official GB is the OTA, so I was forced to ask a lot of questions when they broke the news. They said they have no idea when the update will go live again, but it will work again once the issue is fixed. I'm not going to go through the whole "soon" phase again. Hopefully this is fixed fast.
Thanks for posting this. I've decided to wait, but have been curious why I had not seen it on my G2X. My daughters update via OTA came the day after it came out. I assumed I hadn't seen it 'cause I'm rooted.

Hmmm, that is strange...I wonder what kind of issues they are talking about?
I've updated mine trought the LG Update tool(have the LGP999DWP), worked just fine, so far not having any issues.
I hope once they fixed whatever they are doing to be able to install that update as well.
I am not rooted-running all stock software.

Lol, guys if you can exchange this phone for the sensation i will suggest you do it ASAP!. LG has pretty much washed their hands off this phone. It kinda reminds me of what Nokia did with the N900. Anyway i had an opportunity to exchange mine with NO cost and ended up getting $3 back this Monday. This phone is nothing but trouble. BT don't even work properly.

No, i was just curoius I guess. I don't like the HTC Sense UI, it is way too much for me. It slows down the phone way too much too.
The gingerbread update we got from LG is half way done if you ask me. T-Mobile should make them finish it and then push it as OTA to all of us...just a thought
IF this is true (and haven't there been lots of threads over the last couple of months where sales/support/service representatives confidently asserted "facts" that proved to be false or were even obviously wrong at the time?), I'm hoping it might be to rectify the one point about the upgrade that has been universally panned: the loss of the LG Froyo camera application. It would be nice to get some independent confirmation, but given both LG's and T-Mobile's demonstrated unwillingness to say anything definitive about anything, that seems unlikely...

Most likely. I called them again, and this time they said it was a problem installing. Others installed perfectly using the OTA. So i'm thinking they're covering up something.
They just sent me the Software update after I called them. Quick Fix or clueless employees?

Well you see, i explained to them that i bought a G2x (dual core, blah blah....), if i wanted a G2 i would have bought it. After all it is a 2yr or so old phone. Went on about how the BT on the phone does not work with an expensive BT. How it freezes....basically every other problem people where having i let them know. But she wasn't budging and i gave the phone back to the tmobile manager. Anyway to make a long story short i was nice to the manager and explained it all to him and even took it one step further. Right before i got to his store on monday, the BT locked up just like i suspected it would and i showed it to him and from then on he did is magic
Just like i ask the tmobile rep on the phone: if she had a lexus (LS 430) and she paid FULL price for it and it turns out to be a lemon. If lexus refuses to fix the problem or give her her money back but instead wanted to give her a honda from 2yrs would she take it? she was basically silent....that is when i handed the phone over to the manager. Anyway keep *****ing and they will definitely switch you over.

Yes ALL phones have their issues but i can assure you the sensation problem is way less than the G2x.
Don't kid your self about sensation being a downgrade because it is really not. How is it really a down grade...is it because of sense? have you really played with it?
Ok,Here me out I know this has been asked but I have a different situation and reall y need input as of right now I've read so many reviews and heard so many diff opinions I just want some help on here.
Ok so I bought the shift 11 days ago and realized while I have no problems with it I do want the most out of my upgrade, that being said I turned my attention towards the nexus S, also by the way I only wanted to spend 100 dollars no more than that or I would've gotten the Evo 3d or some other dual core awesome phone. Anyways, I know I would give up the hardware keyboard but feel this is inevitable and something I will eventually do. However the NS has a faster processor, better screen, bigger screen, no crap sprint apps you cant get rid of and a forward facing camera which is a big positive for me.
Heres the deal though I never go against reviews and all the stats say that the Shift wins by like a whole start on every review site. That being said a sprint tech said they have more returns on shifts than the NS and that he loves his NS. So I go in considering the trade and the salesman comforted me saying he wouldn't make the trade. I took his advice then got home and thought well of course the salesman said that it'd be cheaper and they'd have to refund me about 50 bucks and a hundred in the long run. Also I read it has bad wifi problems is that true? I'm sorry for the disorder of this post, I'm just extremely frustrated and don't have much time.
SO I know this has been long, but in eveyones opinion what would you do? i know the NS feels cheaper but I mean does that matter? With a nice case, a zag full body cover and insurance should that matter? Also, the 16gb no sd card thing doesn't bother me I don't think I'll ever and never have exceeded 4gb.
I only have 2 days to decide.
Thanks everyone in advance
Idk about the wifi or reception issues since I have the GSM version but the nexus s is much better than the shift in every way unless u like hardware keyboards. Its not as flimsy as everyone makes it seem, its a really solid and well built phone. easy decision.

HAve you rooted it? I really don't want to but heard that the reception was fixed with last upgrade BUT they also got rid of the free hotspot which sucks. Do you use the forward facing camera?? THis is a key feature to me I really want to be good. Thanks so much man I just don't know I really appreciate any input.

Yeah I rooted it since its so simple to do. Im running stock with a different kernel. Yeah I've used the front facer for Skype and gtalk, works well. I can't comment on the update for sprint because the update for GSM phones didn't stop the hotspot feature. But flashing a different rom will fix that for you and its really easy to do on this phone so you won't run into any difficulties.

Geez thanks so much seriously. I'm a noob at the concept of rooting my last phone was a shift and I couldn't stand it. I read the shift rooting info and was like no theres no way I can do this. Thanks!
OH and one last question it seems you can't push emails to it other than gmail is this true? I can't imagine this being true and the sprint tech said you could, just want to confirm with someone other than a sprint tech.

WOw thanks all so much, and all other comments much welcomed, I'd love to hear any other experiences with the forward cam thanks!

yea I think it will have ics after a month or two after the nexus prime comes out, but it will be the first single core to get ics. im pretty sure most of the single core phone wont even get ics but i could be wrong. lol
Do you think it will be able to properly run ICS? everything I've read says yes and that most likely hardware acceleration will actually make the NS faster and better, do you all agree with that?
I was in ths same boat as you. I came over from a hero read all ths reviews yada yada yada. I had no idea about root or anything. After doing a little but of reading I was able to root and Get the wireless hotspot back without any problems. Reception isn't bad at all on my phone, and I'm on wifi allll the time ABC it gets the sans signal strengths as my viao. As you said no bloatware to is great, along with knowing besides prime nexus a will get ICS before other phones. I had an eco for 3 days in a trial before the ns4g and am happy I switched. I am on the sprint network, and live in CO and even with where I work in the mountains hardly ever drop calls same with my widest nexus service reception is still great and fast enough to video chat which we do often and love on our phones using the front camera. Hope that helps!

Yeah that's what I had happen. Figure it was the antenna coming lose inside or something.
I chatted with Samsung support. Poured a cup of tea into my mac keyboard so I can't post the chat transcript. I'll try to post the magic sauce that got it working from my note 5.
Go to settings - applications - application manager- all applications - bluetooth. Tap clear data. Reboot your phone. See if Bluetooth is working better.

My range went bad again in a day or two. Returned my Note 5 to Samsung and they replaced the main board. It works great now!
I realized if connected to my car Bluetooth, talking and tethering at the same time messed up my last note 5. Tried everything to extend the range once broke and couldn't. I had to replace the phone. So now I do not do both at the same time while in the car. Just my two cents.

Talked to T-Mobile on Xmas and the problem is Samsung released an update that broke the range on your bluetooth. T-Mobile doesn't know when Samsung will release a patch to fix this. People that received replacements probably got a phone with the old update. I thought it was my bluetooth set so i ordered another one and same problem. I might have to Odin to a previous stock build.

TMO confirmed that an update is restricting the Bluetooth range? Interesting... I've just dealt with it pretty much since I got the device back in August as it's been tremendously frustrating that even as close as 1m I have connectivity issues...
I am sooooooo tired of checking for an update. This is damn near CRIMINAL of T-Mobile to us waiting and waiting! Look we own THE FLAGSHIP of Samsung, and the top tier of T-Mobile, and yet, it just seems they can't push an update??? I called corporate a few days ago, demanding ANSWERS! The guy had the nerve to tell me "I just don't know..."....UNACCEPTABLE! I demanded to speak to ANYONE with a clue, he put on a Supervisor, who at least did what I would have done; put me on hold and do some checking. She, of course didn't get anywhere in giving me some idea, but, in a show of good faith gave me a $150 credit towards my next bill! (I took it off course!) My point is, with 6.0.1 being pushed to lesser phones, how is it we get put on the back burner and told to be patient??? I mean, it's TESTING for God's sake!!!! Marshmallow has been out since November 2015...HOW MUCH TESTING IS THERE???
Anyway, I just thought maybe someone, ANYONE in this forum might have some insight on when T-mobile and Samsung might get their S#@* together!!! (I feel better now...)

Of course, you're right. I was just expressing my frustration. All things being equal, it's almost meaningless. ...I'm just saying, as it were. Lol!

I understand completely....sometimes it's the little things in life.
Samsung have moved on to the s7 and could careless about older devices. We will get the update but not until they have free time. As long as there's custom roms and root i could careless about the update. There really haven't been a android update that made me want to upgrade . Its almost like its going backwards if you ask me

I understand your frustration because i created a similar topic...
Back to the topic, you know i felt the same way but i learned to cope with it. Its not really necessary to update right now, imo, because how well built 5.1.1 is for our note 5's. There isnt any vulnerabilities as far as i know.. It'd be nice to have marshmallow though, with all the new features, changes...
The only problem i had with this phone is that when i charge, it doesnt fast charge sometimes. Even when all the cords are fully plugged in. Just today in the morning, i was charging my phone and it was finally fast charging. But i wanted it to charge a little faster because i had work so i turned off my phone... 30 min later i found out it was fully charged.. so i turned it back on and guess what? It was standard charging.......... so im going to call tmobile or samsung todau after work and see what the fu**ing deal is.. because itz been like this for the past week and im getting tired of this and afraid my device will mess up from re-plugging, and rebooting everytime it does that.

When it's not fast charging anymore it's usually the cable going bad. Try with another cable plugged in and see if it works better.

I dont understand why it would go bad in less than 3 months?? I take good care of my things, one of them being the charger and cable for my note 5.... I dont have any other usb cable i can use and do not plan on buying a new one. This is fu**ing ridiculous. I expect the device and the accessories/charger that came with it to work properly and at least hold up after 3-4 years......
I was pissed off earlier because of updates, yes i know thats a bad reason but now i have a good reason why i should be really pissed off....

Samsung cable are garbage. I've never had the cable of any of my Samsung devices ever last longer than a few months now matter how well I took care of them.

If their cables are garbage, then their garbage as a whole...
I had an iphone 5s, bought it new from t-mobile. The lightning cable lasted me 20 months before it started tearing up.. i never had issues with it.
Marshmallow for the note 5 just got pushed back to Feb or March.

Q- Why do you want the update? Just because its out there? This is what I never understood from people and the rants. Now I have a OnePlus that I keep and a Note 4 to root play with and test out roms. I am running MM on my OnePlus and its smooth but its not like a crazy upgrade that would make me go crazy or rant.
To each his own I get it but really what is the upgrade going to give any of us that we cant provide for ourselves. Thats a game changer for the Note 5...
No disrespect to anyone just asking.....

I don't think those dates apply to carrier version of the Note 5, so may be even longer.

Samsung's cable is truly garbage, they always go bad within half year. Go get a third party charging cable, it works better. My Samsung cable quit quick charging 3 moths ago, have to plug and unplug for 5 or more times in a roll before it can quick charge.

Actually, it's a good question. I've been reading about issues MM has, and now don't want it as much. I suppose it's because this is the only Note I've not rooted in order to keep Samsung Pay...I'm also frustrated seeing other phones get the update, yet this is supposed to be the best phone on the market. I called corporate and got $150 credit for ranting on them, so it does pay when you complain loud enough. Essentially, I agree, it's really no biggie anymore. No offense taken.
