Any way to change the DPI? - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Is there an option to change the DPI that I can't find? or is there any way to do that with an app or something from the Play Store?

goto settings>display>view modes and change it accordingly.
its same as changing dpi

I don't see the "view mode" there is font size which I have already selected as small...

@samanbabah In order to change DPI of your phone, you must be rooted, there is not any official method to root the device at the moment, but when it will be there, you can do it and then download any DPI changing app from Play Store, and change your DPI as per your liking.
UPDATE: Follow this guide to root it.
WARNING: Rooting your device will void your warranty.

Got it thanks. On Android N you can change DPI without rooting, Google has baked it right in the system. Hopefully we will get that feature in the next update when Honor releases.

Yes, they will release Android N soon I think as they are pretty fast with updates as compared to other brands. In fact One Plus is behind Honor in releasing updates.

Even easier, edit in build.prop 'ro.sf.lcd_density=320
hw.lcd.density=320' to the desired value and restart

Yes, that's another method to do it.

You don't need root to change DPI. Not on any Android phone. You just need to use ADB if your device ain't rooted.
adb shell wm density DPI && adb reboot
Replace "DPI" with actual DPI. I set my Honor 8 to 340 and it's perfect for me.

A simple way would be to use a file manager that will let you access root files (such as ES Explorere) and look in the folder /system/app - if you see any files that say .odex and .apk then you are still odexed. If you only see files that say .apk then you are deodexed.

That would be cool, thanks! It seems that with the tab setup some of my notifications no longer display (i.e. K9 / Kaiten mail, etc) Also somehow some scren resolutions seem different now with a few launcher menus (folders) running off the screen now.
Stock N7 running 4.2.2, rooted.
[ EDIT ] Whatever the issue was with notifications went away once I switched to Apex launcher (which I was going to do anyway). Not quite sure what the issue was before the switch..

Working with the Nexus 4?
I have a N7 and an N4, I can see the benefits on my N7, and even though it's in a N7 thread, d'you think this'll work on a N4? It doesn't say anywhere in the post that it's N7 specific, only 4.2.2, and I have that on both

Well... I looked at it closer in detail the commit says,
Uploaded Jun 23, 2014 2:37 PM
Updated Jun 23, 2014 2:42 PM
.... it should be in the nightlies for awhile now. But by going into overlay/common/frameworks/base/packages/SystemUI/res/values/config.xml we can change the boolean value of true to false and it should show LTE.
Edit: found it... going to decompile the apk and recompile my own and test it.

Never heard of that but you could try. This zip creates a restore file in a folder called ozog. If you have problems, flash the restore zip. Or, you could upload your framework-res apk and I'll make you one.

There is no reason this would work with CM.
EDIT: I suppose I should expound on this. This is a simple framework edit. The edit must be done to the framework-res.apk of the ROM it is to be used on. Since all of these are edits to the stock ROM they will not work on other ROMs such as CM.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I tend to update my nightly update once a week so this likely wouldn't do me any good, unless it would work across nightlies?

You should learn to do the mod yourself that way you can update it whenever you update CM.

Great point. Might hit up the OP for some pointers.
@sn0warmy @Tulsadiver Do either of you use linux? For ****s and giggles I built a linux script that pulls the framework-res.apk from your device, decompiles it, modifies the dimens.xml so you will have a 32dip navbar, recompiles it, copies the modified files to a vrthemer file, zips that file, and finally pushes that zip to your phone so you can flash it. It takes about 30 seconds to run through this. Its a one trick pony at the moment, and requires you to have adb and apktool located in/usr/local/bin/ so they can be accessed from anywhere (one should do this because anyway).

I'm primarily windows based but I recently changed my computer to boot dually. I put Linux mint on a small portion of my hard drive so I could run super R's kitchen.

Those of you who buy the OnePlus 7 pro (or 6, 6t, 7) at T mobile in the USA got Google feed and the shelf on the left screen
All us others we got only the shelf on the left screen.
I really hope OnePlus will fixes this. The code and everything is in the OnePlus launcher we just have to activate it.
UPDATE!!
theo.j22 said:
@stian230 just edit build.prop and add "ro.build.mea=1" and reboot, you will now have option to choose google feed.
PS- I didn't find this fix, I think Quickswitch developer found it.

I've made a magisk mod to simplify it. Just uninstall anything related to making left work, update to the latest OOS launcher in the playstore, flash the mod and reboot.

Instructions:
* Uninstall previously GoogleFeed modules and update Launcher in Play store.
* Install OOSLeft_V1.zip.
* Now you can updates the launcher from Play with out losing Google Feed:good:
Instructions Android 9:
1. Download the module flash it and reboot .
2. Go to Google play store and uninstall OnePlus launcher and disable auto-update.
3. Hit the home button.
Tip: If you want to keep the same layout of your homescreen from the original launcher, use OnePlus Switch application to backup OnePlus Launcher and after you have the modded launcher with Google Feed installed, do a restore for OnePlus Launcher from OnePlus Switch, worked like a charm. Avoids having to re-do the entire homescreen layout or app folders.

At first you have to decompile classes2.dex.
There are 2 changes to make at .\classes2.dex\net\oneplus\launcher\config\BaseFlags.smali:
change (at lines 73 and 86 for 3.3.4)
Code:
invoke-static {v0}, Lcom/oneplus/lib/util/ReflectUtil;->isFeatureSupported(Ljava/lang/String;)Z
move-result v0
to
Code:
const v0, 0x1
recompile and thats it!

If you're rooted and if you have swift installer, you can get the launcher themed which should make google now black as well. Haven't tested with google now, but the original side cards we're all black so i'm guessing it should work too.

I'm guessing and hoping that Google will implement the dark team in Google now like they done in all the other Google apps.

Do u think we could implement it on the apk itself (without needing Magisk) and recompile it with a different name? I say that since alot of us doesn't have a rooted phone..
PS: i dont want to unlock my bootloader and root so i dont lose Netflix QHD playback..
Thanks for the great job

OnePlus launcher and Google both require to be installed as system app for this to work and it's kind of hard getting them in system without root access. Have I missed out on something do we lose QHD playback in Netflix after unlooked bootloader ? ? Has that been confirmed?
