Black screen of death

i have bought a nexus 5 nearly a year now and it has worked perfectly the problem occurred two weeks ago it happened rarely when i unlock the phone it has a black screen so i had to force reboot with holding the power button , and it started to happen nearly every time i try to unlock it . i had stock android 4.4.4 then i tried at first factory reset and no positive results tried to go back to 4.4 same issue then a friend recommended cm 11 worked for nearly 24h perfectly :good: then the same thing happened :crying: , now im on Slimkat and the black screen appears nearly every time i unlock it now even if unlock the phone successfully with no problems the screen turns black at any time now (home screen apps phone calls ...) it even turns black in boot after the google logo appears (the time the rom logo appears) although it never ever turns black at boot loader or recovery mod . previous searchs i have made lead me that the problem is caused by turning auto-brightness on and/or animation scale must be more than 0.5 and they are not the cause in my case . i think this is a software problem and not a faulty hardware anyone can help me find a solution for this problem please
this is a recording i have made of what i see : /Py5Tv5w8bGo
and this is another screen record made with adb while this problem occurred from 0:09 its a black screen for me and as you can see it's freezing :

[Q] Screen is blank but phone is working

The screen of my OPO went blank, but I believe the phone is still working as it gets notifications, the torch comes on with the "V" from the standby screen, phone wakes from a double tap and the phone rings when called from another phone. But the screen is completely blank, so I cannot reset it because I do not know where to touch the screen.
I have entered a repair ticket with OPO support but they are advertising a wait of at least ten days before any response and I have tried, but cannot hold my breath quite that long. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Same problem over here, have been using phone for few months without any problems, very carefull with my phone, no drops, moist or whatever, but suddenly this strange blank screen starts to occu. Backlight buttons come on and vibrate but screen stays blank.
I can however reboot my phone by holding the power button until it vibrates, phone will work ok ..... until it happens again.
Try clean flashing whatever ROM you're on and go from there
I think it's referred to as "SOD" which stands for "screen of death" maybe? Or darkness? Lol I dunno search for sod

Screen goes partly black

Hi all, I've got a weird problem. The last 3 days my screen has been acting strange. Phone is working without problems when suddenly the hardware buttons won't respond any more. After a few seconds the screen goes black and stays black. Buttons are still lit, but don't respond. But the strangest part is that the drawer stays visible and can also be used normally. I mean, I can draw the notification area down and let it fill the complete screen. So the screen itself doesn't appear to be broken.
Also, when putting the phone to sleep and awaking it again, I can see the normal screen a brief moment, maybe half a second before it goes black again. Restarting the phone is the only thing that will help...
I've cleared Dalvik/cache hoping it would make a difference, but it did not. Hope someone has got a clue?
I've uploaded 2 screen shots to show what I mean.
I'm rooted on OxygenOs 1.0.3/Android 5.0.2.

Phone stuck on a black screen during or after a call?

During a phone call screen on my samsung j7h just goes black and I cant turn it on, even after a call. I have to wait for other caller to hung up and then I can turn screen on. Sometimes it works ok - when I remove j7 of my ear screen turns on but most of times it is always black during and after a call regardless is my phone on my ear or not. I have glass protector but it is original for j7 with holes on right places. I tried *#7353# and everything works fine but during a call I have a problem. It is still lollipop.

Unresponsive black screen after booting

[F8332/Locked BL/Official] Screen goes black and doesn't turn on when booting. Tried software repair with Xperia Companion but still the same problem. Phone is working even with black screen because it can still receive calls but no display so you can't answer calls. Tried restarting/power off. After the sony logo and xperia it goes black when android os starts. Tried searching this forum for same condition and I think there is none so I posted this concern of mine. Please help.
Hold UP, and Power button for 30 sec. It turn on on settings it will work on.
Hi there.
I know this is an old post but did you ever find the solution for this? I have a xperia xz1 with the same problem. Display goes black right after sony and xperia logo when android OS starts.
Thanks.
Hello guy, I also received a phone with this same issue, screen goes off/blank after successful boot up, but the phone is still working, just that you can interact with the screen.
After several attempts, (replaced screen, battery. Yet nothing).
So, I pressed the corners of the phone and it came on ( not immediately though).
Then I saw a notification about cover settings.
To cut the story short. This is the cause of the black screen and solution.
Go to settings > Display > Cover Settings> turn off.
