Note 7 port rom - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

I would love to have one for the n920p... Thoughts?

I think you are not alone. Even just the ability to make a international variant rom work correctly. No diss to our main dev we are lucky to have. But you are no out of luck. I forget where i got it but i found a flashable zip about a month ago that installs note 7 grace ux touchwiz also the note 7 messaging, gallery, browser, phone and possibly a few other apks. I flashed it over MOAR 4.0 or 4.1 and i havent had a single problem since. In fact im surprised nobody has mentioned anything about installing these apps onto our phones. The one i really want working is the new air command features.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/note5/themes-apps/app-pf4-ux-beta-t3398667 I think this is where you found it, right? Just in case anyone wants to try.

On that UI for the note 7 linked above, I don't quite understand. I've done alot of research in how to get it to work but it says "unpack and set permissions", I understand unpacking but the permission parts I don't seem to quite understand.
Saying here just in case anyone else sees that and wants to try it and not have to dig for an answer.

waiting on note 7 for sprint to get rooted

The biggest obstacle with porting the Sprint N7 software to another device like the N4 or N5 is getting the modem and software communicate as well as the bootloader. For GSM variants this isn't really an issue but with cdma it is. smali const-string's in telephony & phoneinfo system files will be different and therefore must be overhauled to work. Lots of work. not for the average Joe, trust me on this However, there is a chance that these things are already compatible between the N5 and S7. The only way to find out is to decompile these files and take a look.
So right now and from my experience with porting the new N7 UX to another cdma device, all porting process is straight forward per usual and it's a TON of work... but you WILL hit a road block at the service connectivity issue that I'm referring to. So before you get started down this challenging project be well informed that data connectivity will be your final challenge. You may think that you can simply swap out some N5 framework and apk's but you then will have to contend with the other N7 UX code that is written specifically for it's implementation. So in my opinion it's gonna take a little while for a fully working N7 port. I recommend a team effort on this kind of project or not at all.

I dont think that was the link. The one i found was a flashable zip for everything at once. Also no need to set permissions. If memory serves it was compatible accross s6, s7, and note 5 too.

Why not just buy the Note 7 if you want a Note 7 rom?

Good question. First, I'll start off with the fact that I like to have root, chainfire wrote on xda somewhere how this will be extremely hard to achieve with the n7, second.... and I hate to beat a dead horse here, but I feel as if Samsung just didn't do what we've all come to expect from a note, used to be that when you bought one, you were buying the most powerful phone.... HANDS DOWN! However, and not to downplay the extremely excellent s7 series, I feel like I'm just getting a more refined version of the s7 edge with an s pen... No hardware changes, no more powerful, just some ux changes that will more than likely at some point make it to the s7 series, and quite possibly the n5. What do you think? Am I wrong? It's debatable. My reasoning still stands behind this, however. Thank you.

What better time for a port, since they recalled all the frigging things!!! Lmfao

Really Need a N7 Port
Hey did anyone find a Note 7 Port for Note 5 yet? any help would be appreciated. Thx

I'm lost how i got a note 7 port on my sprint note 4 but not on the note 5 . I don't get it i tried everything. Cant Even get it to boot

worst fear, cdma (sprint) data issues already?

so stock is great but we all know we love our custom roms and have our favorite devs. i saw cataclysm rom pop up the other day and flashed, all working fine (data provisioned like it should, etc). this morning i noticed a good number of custom roms appeared for us. so i naturally wanted to give them a run (alpha or not), 3 different roms (omni, unofficial carbon, and asylum) all with the same result. it will sit on the provisioning data service screen until it times out and asks you to try again. now somebody in omni replied saying it was a known issue.
here is my concern/question i guess, are we going to see issues bc sprint didnt actually get out of the way and just give up binaries to google? my understanding was one rom should work on all variants. i am not foreign to data issues and sprint as i had the sprint gnex but this was me giving them one last chance before taking it to tmobile, which we can fortunately do with the n5.
Definitely frustrating today for sure. There's a lot of cool ROM's that we're not able to enjoy yet.
I've been sending some PM's around and I can assure you that there are people looking into it. I see the following scenarios as possibilities:
- We may need to create a flashable zip of the Sprint APN settings. It would need to be flashed after every ROM/Gapps install. AT&T and Straight Talk already have a thread for this.
- The devs (except for Rascarlo who already said he will not do this) may start to take notice and try to fix it when building their ROM's. It may be a HiddenMenu issue.
- Worst Case Scenario - we have a separate Sprint Development Forum. Because we have the same model number, I doubt it will come to this though.

well this is really dissapointing then. this "one phone for all" seems to be a bill of goods. will probably just be switching to tmobile when i can and not having to deal with sprint being in the way. if it is this way already and there hasnt even been an update, i do not have high hopes for us cdma users.
edit: i am sure devs are working on this and will get it working in some way. just stinks and its weird that cataclysm is working just fine when it comes to data but 3 others didnt.

nice...i remember slimkat having working data when i gave it a go the other day. i am happy to test the fix if you or he wants to pm me. i used to test for sourcery on sprint gnex so i am good at putting things through the paces and can run logcats if need be.
I also think someone is going make flashable zips that I'll be testing later as well. That way we'll have options for ROMs where the devs don't build the fix in their ROMs.

Honestly the devs need to post roms compatible with cdma or not post them in this forum. nexus firmware is the same for both variants and custom/aosp roms should follow the same rule.

Whoa guys, a little hostile today, are we? Just because you hate LG's interface, doesn't mean everyone does or even should. I, myself, don't like it either but OP came here asking an honest question about modifying his Nexus 5. We could at least have the decency to tell him what we know, or not respond at all.
Anyway, OP. I personally do not know of any way to flash the G2's ROM to the Nexus 5, or any custom ROMs that were inspired by the G2. Your best bet is to try to download something from the Play Store that mimics what you like on the G2. Just doing a quick search, I found this app. I haven't tested it or anything so I'm not sure how well it works, it's just one of results that came up from searching the Play Store. Seems legit, but like I said, I can't vouch for it.

these are just some of the kernels that have the "knock knock" and sweep to wake or sleep or whatever. They will benefit you potentially in more ways than just that specific added functionality.

Except almost every response was worded in a very condescending way. Plus, just saying "Nope can't be done" then the issue getting dropped very rarely happens on XDA. Look at the G2 battery in the Nexus 5, people still haven't given up on it despite a bunch of reasons why it "won't" work One guy said he'd basically hard-mod his phone, taking stuff out, to make it fit. You get that innovation everywhere else on XDA. For some reason this only happens when a feature from another phone is requested to be ported to, or run on, a Nexus device. Since the Nexus (and Android in general) is all about choice I figure hey, throw the guy a bone and elaborate and help him a bit by throwing up alternatives or workarounds instead of providing a brick wall and then moving on with my XDA browsing.
Guess all I'm trying to say is just because some guy might not fully appreciate the Nexus 5 and/or vanilla Android and wants a feature from another phone, one's response shouldn't change from the response one would have given if it were a question about a cool ROM they used on another phone or whatever else (but it commonly does).

Marshmallow will get here when it gets here.

I understand the craving for an update, but it seems every week there's a new thread asking when Marshmallow will arrive. I understand the irony of this statement, but please do not make anymore threads asking when the update will be out. Those are questions better suited for your carrier (I'm sure they have forums). Threads promoting discussion about Marshmallow are okay, such as asking what you're looking forward to most, but simply asking when it's going to be out is not making it come any faster.
While you're waiting, try flashing some of the ROMs, Kernels, and recoveries that our fantastic devs so graciously provide to us for free. @TEKHD, @jovy23, @foreverloco, @dr.ketan, @arter97, and @UpInTheAir (If I've forgotten anyone, I apologize) have all done amazing work for our device on the current version of Android. Take this time to test out their ROMs/kernels and if you get bored, flash another one. Explore all the settings and options. There is a lot you can do with what you've been given here.
Sorry. Rant over.
Thank you for saying what needed to be said. Although I am currently on the latest ROM and kernel from @TEKHD and @UpInTheAir, I was stock for the first 5 months of owning the Note 5. It runs more than fine on 5.1.1, and for everyone complaining that the M8 or M9 are getting MM on T-Mobile before us, there's a good reason for it. HTC has released MM for the international models and Samsung hasn't yet. T-Mobile can't release what they don't have.
I am also running stock 5.1.1 with root on my N5 and it's perfectly fine with LP. I'm in no rush for the MM update. There's a chance it may bring issues along with it and I read somewhere that it would be some time in March when we can see the update. Everyone just needs to hang tight.
@NotATreoFan @tamelion1117
Well said, sirs. I'd personally prefer to wait longer if it meant that most of the bugs and issues are ironed out when it finally hits our device. A solid, smooth update that comes a tad late is better than a half-assed buggy update that comes immediately.

People generally feel there need to want the latest and greatest, in this case, the most up to date version of Android. I personally don't think MM will add much benefit to the note 5 because 5.1.1 is already quite good. Especially when you compare it to previous versions on tw.
If you want mm so badly, simply sell your note 5 and buy a nexus 6p. ;p it's crossed my mind a few times.
I was just thinking about this. As soon as an upgrade is pending many people all of a sudden seem to be unhappy with the phone until they get it.

Word. Nevermind that 5.1.1 runs like a bandit on the Note 5. Doze and permission control will be nice, but Samsung implemented the app optimization feature and the ROM I'm running right now has permission control as well. I'm not sure what else people want.
I'm sure the same people crying for the update will also be the ones to pin point and complain about every minor bug like it's some experience-breaking issue.
Just wait until it arrives and 37 threads pop up from sub 50 post users all notifying us of the update. Just trying to boost their thanks/post count and acting like little kiddies. I remember the note 4 general thread when an update dropped.
Anyone that is getting ansy for the MM update should read up on the 5.0 lollipop update on the Moto X 2014, my previous phone. Was one of the first to get the update, and so it had all the bugs. Didn't ever get totally sorted out, although 5.1 made it much better.
It could be around the corner:

It looks like the AT&T Note5 has a beta test that just went live today, not many testers but someone that is on XDA got it, might be some kind of beta firmware floating around in the not too distant future. Also good news that Samsung is getting that far on any carrier, might have something for Tmo in the not so distant future.

Take this with a *HUGE* grain of salt, but I would suspect they're testing MM on AT&T because they're the largest GSM carrier in the US, and they also love to modify the builds more than T-Mobile does.

Sprint LG V20

Creating this in hopes for our own sub section and discussion since we get as much love as Trump out here. Lol. Yes, I came from the LG G3 so I should know.
So, how much do you guys like the V20?
And does anybody know what happens after you go past the measly 5gb hotspot sprint is giving out?
Oh yeah, any status on root progress or unlocked bootloader?
I will have my sprint v20 this week. I know chainfire got SuperSU installed on the Tmobile variant. We have to wait and see what happens on sprint.
Sprint variant is missing a much of stock apps. Email being one of them. AT&T V20 has a stock email app.
I think it is also missing stock gallery app. too...

When you boot into recovery and attempt to boot into the bootloader it just initiates a normal boot.

Them letting Sprint gimpo the phone by removing the email app and galery app is rediculous. There are a lot of people like me coming from note 7 who were on the fence between the larger size of the LG v20 and the familiar samsung experience of the s7 edge. Realizing the email and gallery app and god knows what else is removed by sprint might just be the straw that breaks the camels back to get me to return this for an s7 edge plus, or just run my note 4 till the s8 comes out. rediculous!

Just sideload the LG apps man. Several thread already with apk files in them in the V20 forum.

All the threads are explaining that the apps cant be sideloaded onsprint version. If you have a workaround please share.
I sideloaded the gallery app just fine. I didn't sideload any email apps cause I using Inbox and Gmail app. Don't know who is having issues but as long as the apk file is pulled out and you install the apk (not some flashable zip which won't work on any unrooted phone) should work just fine. Let me find my post where I posted the gallery apk file.

Thank you! The gallery app worked. The email one would make my day if anyone can find a working apk the ones ive tried say they are corrupt and cant be installed
Once people start rooting the Tmobile version I assume we can get the apk files from them. I also assume at some point LG and Sprint will push an update giving us these apps as well.

I uploaded the music apk and the email apk , using several methods, yet people said the devices showed the file as corrupted as if Tmobile did something to the apps, or Sprint probably has different signatures for the apps. i checked the files for corruption and it came out clean.
I don't think it is possible to simply pull an apk out of a flashable zip and get it to install correctly. It has been my experience in the past with other phones that never worked for me. We need a true apk file maybe saved by TB or some other backup type program.
The bigger issue is that messaging app and email app are probably system apps and without root we will never be able to get those to be that sideloading them.

I'm surprised you guys are that worried about it, I haven't used stock email apps in years and for a gallery app, took all of 5 seconds to look on the play store for a decent one
If you have that new ad blocker, turn it off then try to install apks.
Ad blocker requires root right? So none of us have that.
I don't care about stock email or messaging, but rather was just trying to dissuade people from returning their phone just because of that small (IMHO) oversight.
Coming from the Note 7 this phone, the V20 is disappointing, but there isn't a phone out there like the Note 7, so I'll wait it out a year or two with this one and hope Samsung has their act together then.

The new ad blocker doesn't require root. Search the v20 threads. Plus I've been notified that the bug I mentioned had been reported.
Welp. I've jumped ship. Went to tmobile due to hotspot. After those 5 gb Sprint gives, its too slow to even run Chromecast.

Root on S8?

You guys think the S8 will get root?

Probably only exynos and after sometime maybe the sd835 version

I thought dirty cow made all phones easier to root? I have to have Arise.
I did read they had locked the bootloader so rooting and custom roms would be a problem. But that might only be for the snapdragon ones. I will need to find out what the situation is because if I can't get my custom roms on it and have things like xposed then I'm simply not interested in it. Luckily I'm in the UK so maybe the exynos version will be ok.
I am also wondering whether the S8 and S8+ use the same bootloader? If they do then the phones are effectively identical in terms of hardware AND software and roms should work on either device?
Although with the price, the crappy battery, and the dishonest way they have seemingly put out battery life numbers which are based on running it at 1080 and NOT its native 1440, simply so they can get a similar comparison to the S7 (which WAS running at 1440), I am wondering whether I should even bother. Although I am not sure what else there is out there. Pixel is too expensive considering it uses an old chipset, the G6 is a bit on the weak side with the chipset again, I havent really looked at the Sony but I'm not really a fan of Sony in general.
@ewokuk
hey bro the pre order on samsung UK website is the exynos one right?
europe is only getting exynos so it must be
anyone tried this

I'm guessing that once the devices are released we'll have more options, however, if the devices aren't out yet, how does this purport to work?
As a Verizon user I've learned to not even ask about root or look forward to it. And you know what. I'm ok with that.
Without unlocked bootloader, root and ready to install custom AOSP Rom with xposed, I do not need a new phone.
At that point there are absolutely no reasons to downgrade my Nexus 6.
I really like the features that offer Galaxy s8 plus but software is over 60% of any device.

There really doesnt seem to be that much to miss. Titanium, and a few customized menus. Not that big.

I agree, as devices and the OS get polished more and more over the iterations, there is less realistic every-day need to root each time.
That said, and like most of Android power users (xda?), I miss deep customizations like those on top of Xposed, plus one key tool that I have gotten used to live with: GMD GestureControl (control the system via finger gestures)... Plus Titanium Backup as well
I'm sure someone will leak a eng.kernel for the US SD835 models, that's has happened with the S7 and S7e. That will allow root for us, takes a little more work to get it running good as the eng.kernels are just meant for development and unlocking devices so the kernel CPU settings are all messed up.

Then we will be "stuck" on the "cracked" firmware until another fix is found. Root/bootloader unlock is NOT going to happen with this device.

I'm sure root will happen.....when.....who knows. The S7 and s7e had eng.kernels for MM and Nougat all within a few months If even that.

Hopefully at least root, or I'll have to jump to the Pixel 2.

They are out of the box yes but you can adb super user and scripts to fix that. We actually running great on the tmo S7 edge. I'm getting same as stock battery life if not better and performance is like stock if not better. Took alot of work/trial and error though.

To all the people who are talking about Xposed here: you do realize that Xposed for nougat isn't out yet right? And those devices ship with nougat so unless someone makes a marshmallow rom you aren't going to have xposed.
That may be a deal breaker, but it's not Samsung's fault.

???
It is clearly understood that xposed does not exist on M(..yet) just as it is clearly understood that even if xposed did exist on N it would still not exisit on a phone with a unlockable boot looader... which is Samsungs/fault. See how that works?:silly:
