Does the N7 has calls & data simultaneously? - Sprint Note 7 Questions & Answers

Unlike my N4 I was wondering if the N7 has the option to be on a call and still be able to use data simultaneously... That was the biggest bummer for me with the Note 4.
I wanna upgrade to the N7 but it is a feature that is actually very useful, for when you are on a call and need to send a file or look something up on the internet..
thanks!

Nope. Sprint will not have this ability until it upgrades it's network to VoLTE. Probably in a few years, as there is not any sort of hint they are beginning to upgrade their towers.

aww man!!
I remember when I had my htc Evo 4g LTE and it did work..
I wonder why being a sprint phone it worked ad not on Samsung?

I believe it worked on WiMAX but when Sprint abandoned that and moved to LTE, that functionality disappeared. Beezar is right. Sprint won't have it again for a while.

My note 3 did it but only in 4g areas
Sent from my SM-N930P using XDA-Developers mobile app

The note 3 had separate antennas for data and voice.

Bluefox is right, sprint phones only have one antenna that the voice and data share. I've looking into this, and that's what I was told.

Dropping data on call.

I know you will drop 3g data on a call. That I completely understand. But this is the first device I've used that is dropping my lte data during a call. I'm not sure if this is a rom issue or a modem issue.
I am on sprint, and not sure if this is an isolated issue for sprint customers or across the board.
Another issue I would like to see resolved is patching native tethering. I'm currently stuck using WiFi tether app in ad-hoc mode. Which unfortunately my nexus 7 can't attach to.
In case you're wondering I'm running slim kat currently. I've tried cm and stock before rooting and all formats have dropped LTE on call.
Probably because there is no voice over LTE. Same happens on Rogers too.

But I've always had voice over LTE on Sprint. Just not with this phone. Galaxy nexus, and HTC one never had that issue.
If it's something I have to live with, that's fine. I just would like to see this feature implemented if possible.
maybe its the way the radio is designed for this phone?
thats my only guess.

Nope, not going to happen. It requires a very specific setup with the radios that results in poor battery life. Sprint does not run with voice over LTE, it's simply running calls as normal and keeping LTE active at the same time.
In addition, large portions of Sprint's network outright do not support this functionality anyway.

[Q] T-Mobile wifi calling on Nexus 5?

I recently switched from my T-Mobile Galaxy S3 to a new Nexus 5, but sadly I didn't realize "wifi calling" was a t-mobile post-installed mod only on their branded devices; so Nexus 5 doesn't have that.
Are there any ROMs that contain the T-Mobile wi-fi calling patch? (or something to that effect, though I really appreciate the ability to connect to wifi anywhere in the world and use the phone as if I was in the US)
Thanks!

I believe from what I read that the Tmobile wifi calling app has to be included with the system as there extra files that can't be simply thrown into an APK. If i recall, it had to do with the modems. I ran a rom on my gs2 that didnt have the wifi calling and spent hours searching for it and found all that info out. Basically if the ROM doesn't come from T-Mobile and is AOSP it's not gonna have wifi calling, and it's not as simple as throwing it all in an APK.
Since the Nexus 5 didn't come with it, you can pretty well give up sadly. I'm just as upset as you are, trust me

Thats a cool work around, i've seen it done for a over a year, however, google voice is dropping SIP support soon from what I heard. There are an app in the market that does this for you. I can't remember exactly what it's called. A buddy of mine showed it to me a few months back. There was a huge notice under the app that said that google voice was dropping support for this setup soon. /rumormill.
TMobile Settings for SIP Accounts?
I noticed in the new KitKat dialer application has settings for Internet calling (SIP) accounts. I hope, in the near future, TMobile will simply publish those settings so Wifi calling will be easily accessible in the system settings (vs trying bake it into the system settings separately for 4.x and newer or that app for 2.x and below).
I know I watched this thread for over a year when I was on my Nexus4 and it never happened:

This was true with the original version of T-Mobile WiFi Calling, called UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access). T-Mobile WiFi Calling now uses IMS, which they actually released into the open-source world. Unfortunately no developer has stepped forward to take this open-source information and incorporate it into an N5 rom

This is very useful thank you. Not as awesome an answer as I was hoping but close. I'll search a bit and see what the status is there. Sadly, it doesn't look promising. It appears that code has been released for 2 years now and I haven't seen anyone bundle it into a ROM yet.

New to T-mo so I don't know if this is what you are looking for but if you go into the setting in the phone apk, there is an option for wifi calling. haven't tried it, but thought i'd put it out there.
How would you set up a sip acct to do this?

There's Internet Calling, not Wifi. Internet means using a SIP account, like Magicjack or some other VOIP service.

HD Voice on the Nexus 5 (AMR-WB)

Is there a way to enable HD Voice (WB-AMR) on the Nexus 5? For some weird reason, the Galaxy Nexus is supported by Rogers for HD Voice but not the Nexus 5.
Some people here have figured out how to enable it on the Galaxy S4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2287992
But I can't figure out how to access the service menu on the Nexus 5 on 4.4.2... Or maybe it is already enabled but I can't check it?
Anyone who can figure this out will be the star of XDA's Nexus 5 forum!

it works fine on tmobile. its obvious when its connected, and sounds wonderful. theres no service menu, its just enabled.
It works out of the box on Tmobile. As the previous guy said, it's really obvious if it works.
I'm surprised on T-Mobile's End I had a full size sim from my Nexus s cut it into a micro sim and i was surprised to see LTE on an OLD sim card also HD voice does sound amazing its like landline quality but sounds better! but when it drops to EDGE or GPRS it sounds like [email protected] but oh well i got HSPA everywhere.
HD-Voice is bounds better than landline...i've only had it work between my mom's windows phone and my N5 on tmobile...at&t sounds like crap, all the other phones sound like crap too. I hope at&t enables it soon so I can actually understand my girlfriend better.
Works out of box here on Bell. You have to be talking to other people with HD voice enabled phones. Whenever I phone my brother on his HTC One it sounds amazing..it puts land lines to shame.
I think it needs to be support also via your carrier... but I think most of the carriers have them enabled...

But there must be a service menu to figure out if AMR-WB is activated or not? For example, the S4 has HD Voice capability but people have figured out how to activate it in the service menu.

It is quite bizarre that on Rogers/Fido, Canada's largest network, they say that only certain phones support HD Voice. The Galaxy Nexus is supported but the Nexus 4 and 5 or not supported! I even called and asked!

Rogers/Fido offers HD Voice but I think that they have to add support on a individual device basis. It supports the Galaxy Nexus, but not the Nexus 4 or 5!
This is why I believe that there has got to be a way to access the Service menu on the Nexus 5 and activate AMR-WB support. People can do it on the S4!

All solutions involving *#0011# and *#197328640# don't work. No idea what to do now :/
I was making some calls today, where I had LTE. The expected behaviour would be that the device switches to 3G for voice calls, but it seems to me like my N5 is using 2G. So it seems that despite being on a network which i know has working HD Voice, the Nexus 5 doesn't work. Bummer.
A lot of people claimed that HD voice is working for nexus 5. In my it did not (and my carrier supports this feature). Now, when android 5.1 released, there is an item in change log - provide support for HD voice. So no idea how this worked before, but will check it on 5.1 and hope it will work.

Yup, even though Verizon LTE phones are unlocked out of the box they are not smooth sailing most of the time. They mess with them somehow to make some things inconvenient. You'll have to search around for the solution by people in the same boat as you. That's what I had to do when I was using the Droid Maxx on T-Mobile.

My advice to you would be to not limit yourself to searching only those with a note edge but instead expand your search to anyone using a Verizon LTE phone on t-mobile. It is usually something similar that is causing the problem therefore something similar that will resolve it.

The Note Edge only has 1 antenna and on Verizon phones you have to install and subscribe to Advanced calling in order to get simultaneous voice and data. And since Verizon's VoLTE requires Band 13 I believe, you are most likely going to be out of luck.

WiFi Calling

I contacted Essential support and asked if the phone would support WiFi calling. They responded yes but to contact the carrier to make sure. I am currently on Verizon so I contacted Verizon and they said yes it did support WiFi calling. I was a bit skeptical but I had the agent verify the phone model number. Hopefully this is accurate. I finalized my pre-order right after.
I would take this for what its worth until we have the device in our hands and can make sure. I just thought I would share.

Verizon
That is a great question I will be glad to look into that for you today
You
It says it will support Verizon. I would like to know if it supports the WiFi Calling on Verizon. My signal is very poor at my house and work.
Verizon
Understood let me double check on the WiFi calling feature
You
thank you

Verizon
I do see here that WiFi calling is supported so you will perfectly fine to utilize that feature with Verizon
You
WiFi Calling is supported on the Essential Phone? What else does it say about the Essential phone?
Verizon
I can only view tech reports so I do see that the WiFi calling is supported any other questions I would need them to be specif so that I can search
You
I am just trying to make sure we are talking about the same device.
You
I see the model listed as: Essential PH-1
You
is that the same thing you have?
Verizon
While following the link this is the newest unlocked android the device screen is pretty big yes this is the PH-1

ok.. Sounds good.. Thanks for your help.

I don't know how anyone could have an accurate spec sheet comparison for a phone that has not been officially announced yet. It would just be speculation and leaks, which are often wrong.
That aside, I think if one is inclined to compare this phone to the Pixel 2 (as I am), why not just wait? It will be announced soon and then you can make an actual comparison between the two phones. Also hopefully by then the other colors will be available (since I don't like the glossy black or white colors).
Unless you desparately need a new phone now, I don't see the harm in waiting.
Thanks for sharing, I'm on Verizon as well, and I just ordered my essential ph-1. Hope that rep is correct and not just blowing smoke, but at least now I can be optimistic!
So the word on the street from the first folks that got their phone is no WiFi calling for Verizon. If that is the case my phone will be going back.

Hopefully it gets certified soon. Only feature that doesn't work for me on Verizon is WiFi calling. I actually get a bar of LTE in my house so it is ok for now. My ribs iPhone gets no service just like my s8 and pixel. I'm actually shocked I get any service, nobody does where I live.
Visual voicemail won't work either.

I cannot get wifi calling or voicemail (either proper voicemail notification or visual voicemail to work) with Verizon. Everything else seems to work fine.
Does anyone know which default network we should use for Verizon to maximize signal and battery? I am in a fringe area so small differences in reception is a big deal.
Thanks in advance.
