G930W8 Battery problem - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hello all, so as the titles states, i have a G930W8, bought it like 5 day ago, and it has a battery bug I think, ever since the XAC update, my phone shows up 10 hours or remaining battery, even at 100% and it drains a lot, I made a factory reset but it didn't work, before the update it showed 20+ hours, and it didn't drain that fast, now 3 hours and it's like 55%, so i wanted to know if really there is a bug or it's just me thaank you all

Do a factory reset, and the battery bug is a myth, its probably some app that is draining the battery. Download cpu spy and see if the phone is going into deep sleep, probably it isn't.

@peachpuff okay i'll do that asap, I've already done a factory reset yesterday, but is it normal 10 hours at 100% ? Where as other poeple (and even I before the update and all) get more and faar more?

No its not normal, my phone lasts 2 days before i charge it, some app must be keeping your phone up.

@peachpuff so here are the states of last 2 hours, and i charged before installing the app, and also before this bug i was in a trip, my phone wasn't charged t was like 30% or 40% and i used it all along the trip and it turned off then i charged it without turning it on, when it was 100% i turned it on and tjen i saw the 10 hours, so that's all that happened after the update. And thanks for your help

Pls update the settings to put all ur apps in power save mode.

Well, okay i've done that, will see how it will perform... hope it's not a hardware related problem

Its a known bug after the last update I think. Just restart your phone after every time you charge it.

Well that did nothing, I restarted two times and nothing, I am far from my computer right now I can't do a downgrade with odin, so I guess I have no choice than wait now

What apps did you install after doing a factory reset? Where you using maps? Try disabling gps.

Facebook messenger? Uninstall everything and start from scratch, don't install any apps for a day or two and see how it goes, there's no way the update is draining your battery, its an app that's trying to sync, or possibly one of your accounts can't sync.

Alright i will do that and we'll see what would happen, and ultimatly if the problem remains what shall I do next? (Well except a complete reinstall of the firmware with odin or a previous one, cause I can't now)

If u still have this problem which again is usually 99% an app then yes use often and either flash the U bllatfree firmware or try your firmware again.
But I do agree it's probably something syncing that either can't, or is taking forever to do or, an app misbehaving. Let us know.

[Q] phone shuts down after battery goes from 40-50% to 0%

Today I had my AT&T One X at around 40% charge when I went to sleep. After getting up the phone had shut itself down and when I try to turn it on using the power switch nothing happens. I charged it then it starts charging from 0%. I am on stock 4.04 rom and have rooted the phone. This is the third time in a month that this has happened. I am attaching the battery curve that I got after today's incident. Please Help! Thank you very much for any help in advance.

I have installed betterbatterystats and will update with results next time it happens..
I too am having this problem. Though it started happening after my phone drained and wouldn't restart after charging (boot loop). After I fixed that, it's been dropping dead.
I'm on a stock rom with ElementalX 3.0 kernel. Was v2.0 when it initially started.
Any luck finding information? I still get about the same use out of it (sometimes). I'm thinking that maybe the battery's level is getting reported incorrectly?
This is a known bug, whatever the hell is causing it. Just about everyone has had this happen at least once.

How often are you having this problem. I have had this happen about 3 times in the last three weeks or so. Since my post last week, I haven't had it happen to me yet. I now have the betterbatterystats app installed and will update with results the next time I have battery drain.

It happens quite often. Happened today, then three days before that. I really don't have much on this phone either. After the initial bootloop I did a factory reset and didn't really add much.
This happened to me once on stock rom and kernel. I think it has something to do with the network trying repeatedly to connect and draining the battery. But the phone is asleep and not updating the battery percentage. When the phone finally awakes, it instantly updates the batteryfrom whatever it was before to 0. It seems to happen to people in the early morning.
There is a pretty sizable thread on this already.

I have contacted AT&T and HTC. Neither knows whats up. Went to CM 10 though and haven't seen the issue. Although, the last 2 weeks with CR Dev I didn't see the issue either. It used to happen every night.

Thought I remembered seeing a thread but couldn't find it via search.
I wonder if it's a sense based issue if you haven't seen it with CM 10. Though I didn't have any issues while using the stock kernel. -edit just read flar2's post about using stock and seeing the issue
Most likely something is draining while the phone is asleep and the battery doesn't update. You can see in my history details that when the phone wakes it jumps. Especially the ending death jump lol
I know if I have fast boot enabled and then it off, it'll drain around 10%. It only loses around 3 or 4 if the phone is shut down. I've never left it on overnight, but then again I am an avid task-killer

Oneplus One dies at 20% battery charge rate

Few days back, my phone died even if it showed that battery has about 20%. Since then, my phone dies always near 20% charge state. Before it does, screen is flickering a little bit.
But so far I've observed, my phone runs about 1 hour and it still shows 100%. After that, it starts to drop. I've tried some calibration, but it never worked.
Do you know, how I can repair this or it's a subject for official repair? I would've tried to buy new batteries, but since it's OPO where batteries cannot be changed, or can be, but it brakes warranty so...
Thank you guys, appreciated.
How old is your OPO? What ROM did you use? Any custom kernel / details etc?
My OPO works fine on CM11 nightlies, stock kernel but rooted.
It's max 5 months old and I've never experienced such an issue. Down you have screenshot. I'm running stock ROM and everything. Hope it will help

I have the same issue here. Bought my One on August, running stock, suddenly since a few days ago the phone goes dead on 20% or 16%.
I hope there is a solution for this, different from "send it back".

I think you might get a faulty battery. This happened with my old galaxy note too. Changed battery and every issue is gone.
Got same issue since a few days, how to manage?
has anyone tries this https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/phone-switches-off-when-at-20-low-battery.157075/
27%
Same issue started happening with me too. Phone touched 25-27% mark and goes off suddenly. It was fine from last 3 weeks and from last 2 days, it is giving me this issue. I will try doing factory reset. Hope it works.
PS: I am on stock 38R without root.
has factory reset worked?
Reset doesn't work. It's software problem. A lot people having same issue.
Mine even worst. switched off about 35%. and lasted about 12 hours stuck on 100%.
I've done flash to stock 33R, 38R. clear everything. same. doesn't help.
Open up the phone dialer: type *#*#4636#*#*
This should bring you up to a "secret" settings page. Click on battery information. There you can check battery health!
Replied to a similar thread. I experienced the same issue where it stays at 100% for hours and died around 17%. Happened twice. What I did was turned off the phone and charged it full. Turned it on, waited a couple of minutes or so before unplugging. Had to make sure all apps in the background are up. So far it it fixed the problem for me.
Hope that helps.

I've tried out an apps call "Easy Battery Calibration" can be downloaded from playstore. for rooted devices only.
After using it. it seems okay right now. 100% no longer holds up few hours. drop 2% about 1.5 hours usage.
Looks neat. still waiting for the battery depleting .

Not really. Only did it when it died at17%. There may be some app updates that causes it. In my case I think the culprit is Gsam. Cause when it updated, it messed up the calibration. But then again, it could've been other apps that updated at that time too ☺

I faced this previously. Phone died around 40%. Install battery calibration app from play store. Calibrated my batt and all ok till date. Rooted and on fk kernel back then.
here's the fix. no need to install additional app. no root needed.
NOTE: do this at night, just before you decide to go to bed.
1. let the device turns off itself. no matter at which battery level.
2. while the device is powered off, charge it for at least 6 hours. do not interrupt the charging. do not turn on the phone. and do use the original charger and cable.
3. once the phone is charged for at least 6 hours. turn it on and use it as per your usual way.
4. repeat step 1 to 3 for another 2 times. then the phone's battery calibration will be fixed.
I see you are on 38R .. Have you updated to 44?

Wondering what caused this nevertheless.

[Q] How do I fix my terrible S6 battery life?

Hi guys. I just created an account to these forums. I've used them before when rooting a previous phone. I have a problem with my new S6. I got it about three weeks ago, and I love it. The only problem I have is the incredibly short battery life. There has to be a problem with my phone, because I'll have a battery life of about 5 hours on a good day, but usually 2 or 3. The phone will get mildly hot, and all battery will drain rapidly. I will regularly lose ~40-50% in an hour after it starts heating up. I've been simply dealing with it for a while, after a failed attempt to find a solution on Google. I regularly close my apps, and I even have powersaver on at all times now. Last night, I closed all apps, then restarted my phone. It was at 98 when I fell asleep. I woke up 9 hours later and it was dead. I have checked the battery info a couple times, but I don't ever see anything rapidly draining battery. Could this be a hardware problem?
I have a Verizon S6 regular. Model number SM-G920V
Try to calibrate your battery first.
I suggest reinstalling the software using Samsung's smart manager and updating to 5.1.1, I never had your issues but noticed a big improvement with battery life. I'm sure you have a rogue app somewhere running havoc. There's also a lot of things you can do to improve battery life after reset, like disabling background data on certain apps that you need need constantly connecting and using data like Facebook when it's not even in use. Just play around with your phone to know the ins and outs

Thanks for the suggestion. Where is the Smart Manager? I Googled it, and found a thread saying
It is included on the phone, however there is no way to access it that I've found. You can find it under Application Manager - ALL. Scroll down to Smart Manager and select it, you will find that the app is running but we are cannot access it and the DISABLE button is grayed out. My guess is that Verizon wants us to use their My Verizon Mobile app instead of Smart Manager. I heard that AT&T did the same thing.

1) Do the factory reset, full wipe and see if its gonna get any better.
2) If still the same problem, then download latest firmware for your model from sammobile.com http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G920V/ and flash it via Odin / Download mode
If still the same issue, then contact samsung for the warranty :X

You might try a Sprint fix since your Verizon S6 has CDMA too. Since you've got a Verizon phone, this setting may be somewhat different. On my Sprint S6, I changed the setting under 'Mobile Network', then 'Network Mode' to LTE/CDMA' instead of 'Automatic'. That made my battery life much better. I think I remember a friend with a Verizon S6 and it had 'Global' instead of 'Automatic'. So change it out of 'Global' mode and see what happens.

XZ 41.3.A.2.128 excessive battery drain

Anyone experiencing excessive battery drain with the May patch update? Android system drains the battery too much. I just reset my phone 2 days ago, installed my usual apps, updated the system and then this happens now. Any fix on this?
Hello,
It's actually a well known problem in the community
1. I have submitted a report to Sony and request them to release a software update to fix the Kernel
- which means that our best chance here is to hope it is fixed with an update, the root cause is the Kernel not being optimized
2. I am on the verge of snapping this phone in half as I asked around the community and received no answers , been trying to fix this for 1 year straight

Out of the blue: A factory reset could help.
You definitely have a problem that your phone does not idle (look at my screenshots (v ..128):
idle (Ruhezustand) should always be in the top three).
One of your messengers might the culprit.
Try to disable them all and switch them on one after another to find a possible culprit.
Hi,
I too have these issues. Did you manage to workout which app was at fault?
Yes, another case here. We are still investigating the problem and checking if it's some app or system itself. Most of battery was used by android system and battery was empty in 11 hours.
Problems started with 41.3.A.2.128.
So is it worth updating?

In our case problem was either facebook or whatsapp. Both remove/disabled and now battery lasts as always.
Yes, it is horrible!! I woke up at 7 am, took my phone off the charger and never made a call, or even turned on wifi. I came back from being outside around 11:30 and I was down to %34!! Without the phone having done nothing but sit there and recieve 2 missed calls and 5 text messages!! I usually get 2-3 days on a charge with my XZS depending what I am doing. Needs to be fixed and fast!!!!
Dont factory reset, because the battery issue will not go away for rom issues.
But the "Messages" app do look suspicious for 5%.
There are some devs like to tell people factory reset for everything first and even reset for regular stock rom updates.
Its a bit excessive, like formatting Windows for every time it crashes or even for every Windows updates... Unless you enjoy restoring data & apps.
Should try something to troubleshoot and fix it first before resetting, so we know whats wrong.
The battery drain on idle is slightly better after a week, but we still have to wait and see.
i have problems too, with last existenz with this version battery its a joke

OP6 Always Awake, Poor Battery Life

Hey guys,
I bought OP6 8/128 version and first, the battery life was ok, I was getting 4-5 hours of sot. Now, I see that battery is discharging in constant rate and something is keeping my phone awake all the time. Firstly I thought it was Instagram when it helped when I force stopped it. Now I'm lost 20 percent overnight and battery stats show, that all the time my device was awake. Cannot see anything suspicious through gsam or better battery stats as I believe the put it under android system. Help anyone?
Did you already do a reboot?

From personal experience, i found that updating OTA was the culprit. To get around this, download the full update from Oneplus and update that way.
Ever since i started doing this, I have not had the battery drain issues i used to have. Also, wipe cache before booting phone after update.

So I should try to do fresh install from OnePlus site? Awake time drops when I clear recent apps, so I believe this is either Instagram or Facebook doing this. Really weird. Even without awake time shown in graph, I got 35% drain in 1h sot and 11h standby, this shouldn't be normal, right?
It's crazy, because I used to have a good battery life

for testing, can you uninstall Instagram and Facebook for 1 day and see how your battery life changes.
I can tell you right now Instagram has a prefetch service which causes close to 1-2 hours of wakelock per day for me. I have root so I can disable it but there's no other way from the app itself.

You can just set the app to not use any background data from within Android. I have it on all that's not important for me.
Loose about 0.3% per hour without any apps or mods on beta 2.

So, the story continues... After following your advice and restricting background data for Instagram the wake up time fixed itself, however battery is still draining. Screenshots attached (facebook and time sensors used??)
I will test every available option and if they won't work, I would consider moving to beta oxygen os. Now I'm on 5.1.11
I am ready to trace this to it's roots for people who will potentially encounter this problem in the future.

It could be your spotty connection. Your awake time is fairly high when the mobile network connection goes south. Can you try using something like 3G instead and see if the awake time goes down? As well as the battery drain?
Naturally 3G uses less battery but if you see a drastic difference then it could be the tower connection you have. When the signal gets worse the modem tries harder and effectively uses more battery trying to stay connected.
Have a look if Facebook is allowed to use unlimited background data, I believe there is a setting for it on 5.1.11 aswell (I'm on beta, its a beast.)
There are many reasons not to install Facebook apps on your phone, and this is one of them.

Background data off both for Facebook and Instagram fixed (at least it seems) the overnight drain issue even with airplane mode on. Last time I lost 20-30%, tonight less than 4-5%
Just when I thought I found what was causing the drain, take a look at this: 20min sot and 20% down in 4.5h
Screens attached, still searching for the issue. Android battery stats show no awake time, but something is definitely draining (app usage insanely high on 80%)

So strange.. I feel we still have 3 options here.. 2 old and one new.
Flash 5.1.11 without wiping anything (you won't loose data so it's just an upgrade)
Flash beta 2 dirty as an upgrade, (you might get device corruptednat boot, press power 2 times and forget about the message) you won't loose any data or apps this way either.
Last option is the least fun, clean install of rom :/. If you ask me, I'd go for beta 2 option, if you wanna run something you know is stable go with 5.1.11.
I didn't run into any issues with beta 2 but some are (I believe user error here..)
Changed my mind.... I have 2 more posible fixes.. (I think)
Hmmm, one more thing I just came to think of is try using SD Maid, now this is just a guess that it will do anything at all..
The other thing is flashing a kernel, something could have happened there after an upgrade or something (just a guess.)
I'm running flash kernel now, it's really good

Thanks for your thoughts, thinking of going to beta 2 since I am on 5.1.11 right now. As for flashing kernel, I've been there with custom roms and kernels with several other phones and in the end most of them (except galaxy s5) were working better on stock ones after a while... However, doesn't rooting void the warranty on OP6?

Beta 2 is really good
48 hours and I'm at 18% with soon 9hrs of screen (usage and SS in battery thread)
As of warranty, no, you will still have full. However this shouldn't have to be done as a "fix" , i was just curious if stock kernel somehow got messed up :s

I would suggest doing a factory reset or uninstall your apps one at a time. Considering it's saying kernel wakelock (could be false positive) I would start go straight to factory reset. If going to Android Pie beta 2 is overall stable and forces a reset anyways, then go ahead and do that instead.
Im just getting 5-6hours SOT on my new op6, is this the normal battery life? Was planning on flashing custom kernels? Any suggestions?

So, I can close this case as SOLVED.
Today, phone was mainly on 4g, doing photos, videos, calls, 4 hours of spotify via bluetooth. 3h50min SOT, 16h standby and still 27% left. Dirty install of Beta 2 fixed it! Thanks for your help!
