Verizon’s latest update for the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge brings Wi-Fi and HD Calling improvements.
To check for the update, head into Settings>About phone>Software updates>Check for updates.
Before you download:
Connect your device to a Wi-Fi network, or make sure it has a strong Verizon Wireless network connection.
Ensure your battery is fully charged before starting the software update.
I saw and downloaded the update. We use WiFi calling since we live in sticks and cell signal here is week. We had noticed poor quality recently, hopefully this update helps.

We've NEVER had luck with Wi-Fi calling. We have 75 MB Comcast connection and when the phone rings, it always disconnects when I answer, or a few seconds after.
Does anyone else have this going on? We can't even use it. We've heard from others that it's a great feature, just we can't get it working.
Anyone else upgraded? How is it? Does it make a noticeable difference in volte?
Updated and the phone seems identical. WiFi calling seems hit or miss for me: it sometimes connects, and sometimes sounds all right, but no real change from before.
Can someone confirm FoxFi works on update?

After dealing with so-so signal strength and ZERO wifi calling abilities with this Verizon phone, tech support is sending me a new SIM card. They said if that doesn't fix my issues, they'll send me a new phone right away.
If you're having problems, I'd suggest going the same route.

Yup.

I notice if I got both CELL and WIFI on... and my cell is weak and "jumps" to wifi calling, people say I "sound like a frog".
If I go to airplane mode and turn cell on - everything sounds crystal clear to both sides

You using Foxfi for wireless tethering I assume? Are you on the latest software version? I am thinking about unrooting and switching to that but I fear I may regret it...

I installed the latest Verizon update to my s6 and FoxFi still worked, that's all I can say.

Hey guys,
This morning Google released the 2.3.6 update for my I9020T Nexus S over Mobilicity's network and I was wondering if this 2.3.6 update was affected by not being able to tether. This is currently my major concern as I tether a lot.
Does anyone know if that 2.3.6 tethering bug that was reported on the I9020A when they first got it also affects the I9020T phones too or Google has pulled the update on I9020A and I9020T and re-released it?
Right now my phone wants me to update to 2.3.6 but I want to make sure that I still have tethering if i do so.
Thanks,
deltatux
Its not a bug. Carriers want to charge for that feature. I'm sure someone will make a tethering fix just like bugless Pete did for the 2.3.5 update. That one might even work already.

I have the I9029T on t-mobile and I updated to 2.3.6 today. My wifi tethering wasn't working right away and I almost freaked out because I use this feature all the time. Thankfully it was easily fixed...
I have the security enabled for the wifi tethering and for some reason after the update the password in my phone changed by itself. I just changed it back to what it was and it worked again. If for some reason you cant remember your password and your computer is automatically set to connect to the tethering.. Right click on Android AP in the comp, click properties and change the network security key (password) from there as well... Now all is good in the world of tethering.

My carrier doesn't do that, they allow tethering without extra charge.

Really eh? I guess for Mobilicity it's even better, I just updated to 2.3.6 after scouring upon heaps of irrelevant results on Google and found some relevant from Android Central and Android Police where people reported that it works. So I tried it, flashed it to 2.3.6 and instantly, tethering works with no workarounds required. I noticed that AWS signal with my carrier improved a bit.
Thanks guys,

My TMO One S wont disconnect from whatever wifi network it was connected to. I left my house and drove miles away and it shows still connected yet its obviously not and data doesn't work via the cell tower unless you turn off WiFi completely.
I have the same problem. I talked to tech support at t-mobile and they talked to HTC they had me switch out the phone. That didn't fix the problem. I can say when I wipe the phone the wifi seems to work, but after I install everything and wait a day it stops. I do like the phone and am thinking it is one of my app causing this problem. I bought a second one s for my yesterday I will see if her setup does this as well.
Sent from my HTC One S
Same issue here. I have left the house and been 15 minutes down the road and my wifi still shows as being connected to my home network. It does not do this all the time, maybe half the time. I can get it to connect to the cell network by toggling airplane mode on and then off.
I have worked out using a wifi analyzer that the wifi seem to lock up when the signal drops off, If I toggle the wifi on and off everything comes back just fine. The phone starts to find wifi signals again. I guess I am going to start uninstalling apps one at a time to try to find out witch one it is but I have over 60 so this is going to take a lot of time. I hope my wife's new phone doesn't have the problem that would make things easier to track down.
I had this problem. Do a factory reset. That'll sort it.

Did a factory reset worked for a day and then started to do it again.
It is a known bug.
Hopefully will be sorted out by the 1.78 firmware update or a later one.
How do you know this is a know bug. This is the first post that I have seen on it on the web not just this site, and t-mobile and HTC said they have not seen it before, I know that could and most likely is BS, but all the same where did you get your info.

I wrote about that to hex Europe and they confirm it to be bug.
Actually, I'm note running the 1.78 firmware with the newest radio and if I'm not mistaken, the issue isn't here...

I am seeing this problem more frequently now. At my office the H1S is on Wifi all day pretty much, then I drive home which is a few miles, and it stills shows connected. Which is annoying as this means the 3G connection is not enabled.
Same here... Also not always and also it didn't happen first day to have phone, but after some days of usage...
I still haven't received the OTA (mine is Orange Spain branded)... Let's hope this has been solved.
Thanks all for letting me not filing alone... XD
bye!
I have noticed the same thing. It's probably a firmware issue as so many people are having it.
Any word on when the update will be rolled out?

If so, what is your XX?

I have noticed that after my phone is hooked to the wifi for a few minutes it seem to stop scanning for other networks. I am going to try a WIFI manger and see if that helps. I hate having to turn off and on the wifi after I leave my house.
I have heard that nexus 5 does not support tethering. Could anyone who has a nexus 5 at hand test it?
Isn't it more of a software than hardware feature. All of my phones have had WiFi tethering thanks to AOKP.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Teathering is a native option, and has been for quite a while... nothings changed in 4.4. Jeeeenx is right it is a software thing, so some carriers choose to disable it. Technically I'm not allowed to do it on my contract, but the carrier has no way of knowing if you do or not.

Yes you can. You can set-up USB tethering, Bluetooth tethering, and also setup portable wi-fi hotspot
I hope so. However, i got this info from reliable source so i just want to see whether anyone has tried that or not. I am guessing google intentionally disabled it or it is not ready for kitkat?
There's usually an app for that.

5Ghz Wifi Tethering?
Question, has anyone tried Wifi tethering on the 5GHz band? In 4.3 and lower tethering only worked on 2.4Ghz no matter what I set the phone to use... just wondering if this changed at all in KitKat?
Now that we have root will Wi-Fi tethering be obtainable? I didn't see it mention in the v10 forums as being done yet either. Maybe T-Mobile has that blocked?
Sent from my LG-H830 using Tapatalk
You should try out Wifi Tether Router. It's a paid app on the app store that is pretty sweet. I have it working on the Galaxy Note 4. T-Mobile has gotten really good at blocking it but I've had more recent success with it.
If you get the app please report back to us if it worked or not!
I tried it but yes T-Mobile had gotten better at blocking. When I use it it continues to turn wifi on, even after I end the app the wifi will continue to turn on. I ran out and bought the phone AGAIN as soon as I saw it was rooted in hopes I could get tethering working. I'm returning the phone, it'll be the last carrier phone I ever buy.
Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk
I don't know if that's a T-Mobile blocking issue as much as it might just be a problem with that version of the app. You should see if previous versions work better first.
Maybe I should have. I'm going to wait for the next round of Nexus phones.

Verizon Pixel on Verizon with N2G47E as well though I did the OTA manually rather than wait for it to appear. I do this every month. Have had no issues with the phone.
Much prefer to do updates on my schedule rather than on someone else's in case there is issues with the update.
got mine through verizon. dloaded and installed nhg47k yesterday. nothing bad to report.

A couple of things that may help you out on the VoLTE option, including bringing back HD Voice calling and Video Calling. Same thing happened to me on the new build. I went into the the *#*#4636#*#* Phone information menu and ensured that VoLTE Provisioned and other options are turned on. For me I need to decline the HD feature and re-enable...for you probably a call to Verizon. Takes just a few moment to do and didnt have to reboot. Viola' HD Voice and Video Calling were back. Good luck

The only difference between N2G47J and NHG47K is the radio image (modem.img). NHG47K has a newer radio.

The K update has done nothing for the weak cell signal. Time will tell if it does anything about dropped and missed calls.

I never had such problems even with old firmware versions. I know that some people have them, but it looks like these issues are location dependent, so I wouldn't expect updates to fix it.
