Turn on at specific time/trigger - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

Hi together,
I love using my MTCD to hear Spotify and Podcasts. I use both services normally offline and download the content at home using WiFi. So my question is: is there a posibillity to turn the MTCD on in the morning for downloading the offline contet before I drive to work?
I experimented using a little relay to power the ignition cable to do that, but it would be even nicer if the MTCD can do that directly.
Thanks for your answer/ideas,
Tommy

I use my remote start before I head out. My wifi is pretty fast and I get a good signal. That allows my spotify to update accordingly by the time I get to the Jeep.

Unfortunately I don't have a remote. Btw can you turn your radio on manually? I can do that only with ignition on.

Hi, turning on and off and Android device has been a feature very important to me since my first device. I remember when i bought my first android (HTC Magic) and how I was surprised with the fact that your device must be on all the time if you want to use it for waking up in the morning. Now I've a Xiaomi MI4 and my wife has a BQ and both (Android Marshmallow) have the option of turning it on and off at specific time, that's great because you can save a lot off batt. I wonder if it could be possible to get that option on our units ina future (may be if Marshmallow come to our unit).....Time will tell

I didnt find such a app so i figured to ask.
I need a app that will scan for bluetooth devices.
In one work i need a app that when i go into my car it will automatically connect to my bluetooth car. So my best guess is that it will need tp scan for bluetooth devices every x mins ?!

You can search for bluetooth devices (such as carkits) by going to settings->more->bluetooth.
Once paired with a device, the next time it will pair automatically. No special app needed.
yes, i know that, but the bluetooth needs to be enabled all the time in order to do that.
I need one app that will just enable the bluetooth when it detects the car kit
CAR KIT

Yes, but u have the bluetooth on rite ?
Well the HTC official car kit can be configured to auto start bluetooth when it is attached. Depends whether you want to spend all that money. Why not just install a bluetooth toggle app and place a link in the quick links. Doesnt take 10 seconds to switch it on when you get in the car.
i agree wit you, i already have that, but u didnt consider the "forget to turn on" factor

how about a "post-it" in the middle of the steering wheel saying "turn on bluetooth" there is no way of auto turning on bluetooth when your in your car because the phone has no idea where you are. you will have to leave it on all the time unless you buy the car kit or remember to turn it on when u get in.
there's no way to programmatically detect carkit w/o turning on the bluetooth, and if you are determined to do so, the only way is to turn on bluetooth and poll for carkit , and then turn off the bluetooth again, and then you repeat it at regular interval.
however such method is silly because (1) it doesn't necessary help to improve the battery life of your device (assuming that's the reason why you want to turn off bluetooth until you are in the car), (2) unless you poll every other second, you will not have your HD2 connect to your carkit immediately, which is the case if you've left bluetooth on in your HD2 all the while (well almost).
The best option for you is to download app like g-profile, create a profile that turns on bluetooth when you plug in your hd2 to your car power supply. As this is event driven, so you will not have the problem described above (except that you will have bluetooth turn on each time your hd2 is connected to a power source)
If you have a car charger and always use it, download bluetooth power manager, it will turn bluetooth on when the charger is connected and off when you unplug, it's the best your gonna get.

Bluetooth connect/disconnect/connect - Audi OEM BT

Searched for this problem but couldn't find anything directly related. Is there an advanced search option on the forum?
I just got a Samsung S2 LTE/Skyrocket on the Rogers network here in Canada and love the phone so far. Only problem is when I have the phone in the car, the Bluetooth connects properly when I fire the car up, but it disconnects after a short period of time (2-4 minutes)...then it may reconnect on its own...then disconnects minutes later.
The car is a 2008 Audi RS4 which is basically the same bluetooth system used on the more popular A4, (2005-2008) so hopefully someone else has some input.
Initial thoughts
1. phone software - Maybe the phone needs a software update - this exact scenario happened on a blackberry I had a few years ago and updating the blackberry's system software fixed the issue. There is no 'firmware update' possible for the car for the record. The phone is running GingerBread 2.3.5
2. bluetooth/sleep/battery saver settings - as I've only had an Android for about 5 minutes, this is likely where I'm missing something. Is there a setting on the phone that puts bluetooth to sleep to save battery power? I've not downloaded any apps to interfere with power management yet etc. so I'm just on OEM settings.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
This is more of a development forum than anything, so most of the folks are running custom ROM's here. But you'll still find knowledgeable folks when it comes to stock ROM.
I would try going to settings and at the bottom of the menu is a software update option. Some folks are getting 2.3.6 rolled out to them so it couldn't hurt to check and see if it's available for you right now.
Otherwise, you might try un-pairing the bluetooth connection, reboot and then try making a new pair?
Good luck.
To OP, sorry I don't have a solution for you. But I gotta tell ya, the bluetooth on this phone is pretty crappy, I'm hoping the ICS will fix a lot of Bluetooth bugs. I have an issue connecting with my Bluetooth Music Reciever (which is plugged into the AUX). I have a 2008 MB C300 and the Bluetooth wors about 95% of the time.
By the way Nice ride. RS4, same engine as the Audi R8.

thanks for nothing guys. this place sucks
just messing. Sorry, I didn't quite grasp that this was the premier developer forum vs. users shooting the **** about their phones. A buddy referred me over here when I told him about the problem.
Yeah, I've heard a few complaints about the bluetooth similar to yours Jamolah. Some guys complain that it only connects once in a while, so 95% of the time is pretty good! Mine connects right away every time which is nice...but the constant disconnect/connect/disconnect routine gets real old, and results in me turning bluetooth off. Unfortunately then you have to turn it on to use it etc.
Anyway, I'll keep trying for a solution to my seemingly unique problem and will see about an update to ICS when its available. Quite a different world, the android world (vs. blackberry or iPhone where everything's so closed and limited and simple).
Thanks for the input guys.
Hi,
if you keep your android running with the navigation app (preventing standby) do you still experience disconnects? If this helps you can try my app "BluetoothKeepalive" from the market, it automatically prevents android standby when being connected via bluetooth.
Regards
...Alex
I am pleased to report that the phone now works flawlessly with my Audi's bluetooth.
The solution? Ice Cream Sandwich / 4.0, the latest operating system available for my phone.
I upgraded the phone to ICS, and it immediately began co-operating with the bluetooth.

[TUTORIAL] How to use Gear 2 (Neo) in harmony with other Bluetooth devices

When I bought Gear 2 Neo a week and a half ago, I immediately faced the following issue: how the hell I keep using my Bluetooth earpiece for conducting phone calls? As cool as it looks talking to the Gear, it's not as convenient as wearing an earpiece, and I've been using those for the last 12 years. This new annoyance combined with an old one: when I'm in the car, I want my phone to automatically switch to the car in-built Bluetooth audio, both for phone calls and for media. I don't want to do this manually! And now, with the Gear, just think of the possibility of talking to the watch while driving the car!
Now, the Samsung phone owners have the luxury of being able to switch to the earpiece after picking up the call on the Gear. Not ideal, but workable. Still puzzles me though if you're able to choose a specific Bluetooth phone audio device if you have more than one (e.g. as with the earpiece and the car example). But we, the non-Samsung owners, don't even have this option. So finding a solution was due!
So, here are my use cases:
When I'm not in the car, I'd like the phone to be connected to the Gear all the time while not in the call. This makes sure I get all the notifications etc.
When not in the car and I'm engaged in a call, I'd like Bluetooth phone audio to switch to my earpiece as soon as possible. This automatically disconnects the Gear, meaning I'm no longer able to receive notifications on it. But this is not an issue, as, when I'm on the phone, I prefer not to be distracted anyway. At the end of the call I want Bluetooth audio to reconnect back to the Gear.
When I'm in the car, I'd like my phone to connect to the built-in Bluetooth phone and audio. I would like to stay it like this for as long as my car audio system is on. This means I won't receive any notifications on the Gear, but I reckon this is rather good while driving. When my car audio is off, I'd like the phone to automatically reconnect back to the Gear.
There are two pieces of software that helped me with achieving this:
Tasker. It's not free, but is worth every cent you spend on it. What's more, you can download a 7-day free trial to play with this guide before you commit to buying it.
Secure settings. All the functionality you need for this guide is included in the free version.
My triggers are:
Phone ringing or off hook and not in the car: connect to the earpiece
Phone idle and not in the car: connect to the Gear
Car application is launched (happens automatically when I plug my HTC One M8 into its car holder): toggle car mode on, which, in turn, connects to the car Bluetooth
Power disconnected (which is what happens when I turn car engine off or pull the phone from the car holder) and the car mode was on: toggle car mode off
Car mode switched off: connect to the Gear
Device boot: connect to the Gear
Now, you can import the attached file into Tasker on your phone and give it a go. You will need to go and replace the device MAC addresses and names with YOUR devices first (in Secure Settings configuration for each and every relevant task).
If you don't have in-car Bluetooth, just disable the corresponding profiles.
Now, there are some things that need improvement:
Right now I can't answer the calls on the Gear even if I want (e.g. if I forgot my earpiece at home or if it's out of battery). The reason for this is the way Secure Settings plugin performs BT Connect action: it disconnects the currently connected device first and only then tries connecting the other device. Also, there is no way to figure out if this connection was successful or not. I'm thinking of implementing a special toggle that will disable automatic earpiece connection on user request.
One scenario that is not properly implemented yet is switching from in-car BT to the earpiece while in the call (e.g. when you arrive at your destination while talking on the phone and want to live the car without disconnecting the call). Right now this requires manual intervention.
Unfortunately, Bluetooth connectivity of many devices is still quite buggy. I often find that, despite the fact the phone shows it's connected to the device, the audio is not going through. Or the device doesn't think it's connected (both happen quite often with my in-car BT). Usually, what helps in this situations is resetting Bluetooth on the phone or on the device or on both. I'm thinking of adding BT off/on action before any device switch just to improve reliability. However, sometimes the device needs to be reset, which may be easy (e.g. turning the earpiece off and on) or not (you can't turn the in-car BT off without stopping the engine).
That's all for now. Feedback is appreciated!
Great add thank you!
Y

I'm having difficulty opening your file below. Do you open it using tasked, open via file explorer and edit or open via service manager. I also have the m8 and appreciate all the work you've done. I'm fairly new to tasked so figured it would be easier to change your file and then load it.

I have appradio 2. Is there a way to modify this to always disconnect the gear and connect the car radio when I plug in USB from the radio?
You can also accomplish all this with LLama profiles which is a free application
I ended up making my own. Was better as now I have some working knowledge of tasker and secure settings. I dont have Bluetooth in my car so was a little easier.
One thing I did add was a 5 second wait/delay so I can still look at who is calling on the watch, decide if i want to answer or reject from the watch and then if I do answer it automatically disconnects the Gear and allows you to talk through the phone or earpiece.
Thats my only addition as it maintains some function of the watch to allow screening of calls without pulling phone from pocket.
There is a bluetooth setting if you'll only use it for media or phone calls or both )

I need some resolve to me after the call is automatically disconnected BT Handset Gear2 but have remained constantly connected. Do with Timo anyone have experience? Thank you.
I solved this by using an nfc tag as a switcher! I bought an Nfc tag for just 25cents and I wrote on it with the free app Trigger... When I get in the car I swipe the phone on the nfc tag and it connects to the car BT and when I swipe the phone again it switches back to the gear!

[EDIT]
Hi,
I'm trying with Llama, can you give me some help?
I add a new condition "ringing", but I don't understand the related action. Per my understanding I need to disconnect the GEAR, but I cannot find the specific action.
Ok, I understand that is needed Secure Setttings, but I still not able to do what I need: when the action is executed, I need to disconnect gear...
Ok, now everything is OK.
Just to clarify for who is not able to import che xml for Tasker or just want to use Llama that is free.
It is necessary to install "Secure Settings" and to create a Local Plugin Action, involving Secure Settings.
In Secure Settings, selecting the BT connect/disconnect action, it is possible to select from a list of paired device on which of them perform the "connect/disconnect" action
Thanks a lot.

OPO Pandora In-Car HU Controls

Hi,
I have a Pioneer AVH-X3500BHS DVD Receiver installed in my car and it has the Pandora app on it. This allows it to display the artist name, song, gives the ability to thumbs up/down from the touch screen itself and is useful.
I was able to use this with my Nexus 5 but when my OPO is connected via bluetooth this isn't available.
Does anyone know what the difference between the N5 and OPO is in regards to being able to launch the pandora app on my headunit?
Looks like this feature is called Pandora Radio Ready.
Thank you.

Which ROM are you running? I have the AVH-X2700BS and running CM11S (XNPH44S) on my OPO, both bluetooth audio and Pandora control works decently well. I almost exclusively use Pandora over bluetooth audio and typically with about every 5 or 6th song change the song info will not change, but upon switching to the next song it will. If that makes sense. I've have no issues with Pandora control over bluetooth as well although i've had very little usage .
Now, the reason i ask which ROM you are using is because i recent upgraded to CM12 (YNG1TAS17L) in hopes that it would fix or mitigate the touch screen issues i've been having lately. After updating to that, when i stream Pandora over bluetooth i get no song info and the controls don't work at all. I did not try the Pandora control.
Question for you: Do you contacts sync properly with the HU? My contacts say they sync yet there's nothing under phonebook but recent calls does show the names and numbers properly.
I have a Z150BH. Just tried Pandora via bluetooth for the first time today. Pandora seems to work as designed, and controls work fine. It was just a short drive so will put more time into the eval and get back any meaningful changes of thoughts.
What I would like to do, however, is 'cast' my screen to the Pioneer unit. Thinking a wifi weather, then WIFI direct ought to work, with a Netear HD adapter.

I'm running stock CM12S but it hasn't worked with 11 or 12. My contacts and the dialer sync perfectly and when I use the "bluetooth" function on my headunit I can stream and control the phone fine but what I'm trying to use is the app.
For instance in this screenshot:
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/StaticFiles/PUSA/Images/Product Images/Car/AVH-X3500BHS_angle1.jpg
The bluetooth icon on the top right works fine, but the pandora icon second from the right on the top row does not even light up as an option for me to use (where it did when I connected my Nexus 5).
This is what I want to be able to use:

I think you have 3 options...
1) Wait for a possible fix in an upcoming update.
2) Find and flash the bluetooth stack from CM11 (not sure if this is possible or available)
3) Go back to CM11.

Is it a bluetooth stack thing that prevents some headunits from seeing certain phones over others? (Such as Nexus 5 vs OPO).
I'm not sure if that's a BT stack issue or incompatible protocol, etc. Maybe someone else with more knowledge can chime in on this one.
Interesting, looking at the phones on phonearena it looks like the N5 has v4.0 and A2DP whereas the OPO only has 4.0.
I wonder if A2DP is the culprit here.

Mirrorlink + Car Mode not working

I purchased the S7 hoping to utilize my head unit on my 2014 Honda Civic. I installed RockScout to ensure SOMETHING would show up and it did. I installed Car Mode through the Galaxy app store, and the app shows up under the Mirrorlink "menu" in settings under MirrorLink applications. One would think that this would mean it should show up on the car's screen when connected, but alas it does not.
Is there something I'm missing? Has anyone else been able to get this to work?
solved... somewhat
So I found a solution for those who may be having the same issue.
--- I guess I can't post links yet because I'm so new.. go to youtube and use this video id to watch: xEaR97-ETeM ---
surprisingly, this seems to have made the car mode work for me.
Perform the steps shown in the video,
Open Car Mode on your phone
Connect the phone to the car via USB
Select one of the available MirrorLink apps (in my case it was Rock Scout)
The chosen app will open and the Car Mode nav bar will appear on the left. Now you can just hit it's home button and you're taken to Car Mode.
Now I need to figure out how to get Google Maps to work on Car Mode. Currently, it looks like it only supports navigation apps that Mirror Link supports
(I'm assuming due a head-unit-display-UI not being available on Google Maps.. probably legal reasons there)
What is the title of the youtube video? I tried your link and it did not work out for me.
When I connect the Galaxy S7 to my stereo, the Samsung automatically locks on the Mirrorlink connection screen, it will not let me navigate way.

still this is strange, car mode is visible under mirrorlink certifications yet it is not visible when phone is connected to car radio
Having the same problem. 2016 Subaru Crosstrek with factory head unit. Couple mirror link apps are working fine but car mode does not show up on the head unit at all. Really want it so I can use google maps on the bigger screen.
Running a Sony XAV-601BT and same issue. It shows as connected (however get a USB device not recognized error), tried the tricks above and no dice Really disappointed so far, as my old Z2 worked fine.
Found some info in the Subaru forums. Sounds like MirrorLink 1.1 is more strict about what it allows to display. So 1.0 just kinda mirrored everything, 1.1 actually checks to make sure you don't wiggle your way into another app. Since Car Mode isn't allowed by the car, even though its MirrorLink certified, it gets blocked... Sigh...

Yes, MirrorLink 1.1 also requires each specific app to be certified before it can be displayed. I don't think Google is going to support this ever, since they are pushing their own Android Auto.
Would LOVE to see a workaround for this, purchased a mirrorlink addon for my Pioneer AVH-X3600BHS and it doesnt work properly grrr
Grrr "Smartphone Not Compatible" when trying to connect Samsung Galaxy s7 to Honda Civic 2016...Applications are certified, USB in MTP mode but it just does not work...
I've only got this to work with HTC phones. See my video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhFsBz31-qU
There are other videos on youtube as well . . all using HTC phones.
I've tried my process on a couple nexus devices and samsung devices, they don't work.
Something about the HTC mirrorlink technology thats works perfectly... EVERYTHING works.
So . . . i'm currently stuck using a cheap HTC 626s phone because it works so well with my 2014 Civic si head unit.
Currently looking for a used HTC m9 or 10 so I can have a beefier phone but still retain the mirrorlink functionality.
This only worked for me so far when the ROM is stock. Dunno if has something to do with the other ROMs being rooted.. Researching, because I'd like to have a custom ROM with root AND this working.

In mine only the back button of the hu is shown, the others are missing too, so i ve installed a program to simulate the buttons, its called Simple Control.
I've heard that the pioneer is easy to hack, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Linux that these seem to run? Is there a way to trick the car head unit to allow any device with a custom rom to connect to mirrorlink 1.1?
My mass storage device is recognised but the internal SD card in MTP mode isn't. Does Sygic App allow it to connect regardless?
Anyone has skills how to mod car mode app, so it works like RockScout. Apparently it only works on VW mirorlink radios, I have a Subaru with the 7" Mirrorink 1.1 inch unit and it would be nice if this software barrier can be "corrected". I have seen it show car mode when exiting the RockScout app, so I know it works, just that its blocked.
There is a way to root the phone and then install an app that runs car mode, but this doens't work in 1.1 either. I have heard that someone was running CM mod with full mirroring. Any thoughts? There must be a way in Linux to connect and change the connect settings through the app? Is it it android specifiic ie version?

Having the same problem. 2016 Subaru Crosstrek with factory head unit. Couple mirror link apps are working fine but car mode does not show up on the head unit at all. Really want it so I can use google maps on the bigger screen.

I have the same vehicle. So frustrating to have a brand new car with a perfectly decent screen built in (picture of backup cam looks pretty good) and no ability to take advantage of it. They want us to pay however many thousand dollars more to use their navigation system, which I'm sure sucks out of the box and will no doubt be useless in 1-2 years anyway. It would be SO MUCH SAFER if they let us just mirror the friggin screen. You KNOW it's not that compatibility is complicated. Dicks. (I love my Subaru otherwise )
